It took me 3 years to mourn the tragic loss of my own son. And thank god this song made its way to my ears and the process began. I remember watching the news when Claptons son died and remember how awful that was. The song brought tears to my eyes thinking of my own children. 12 years later I found out how deep this song reaches and just how strong one has to be to face the experience. This song asks all the questions that the sense of never ever again bring to mind. Great review 👍

Jeff Beck just died recently, he and Johnny Depp were playing together at the time. Eric Clapton wrote this song for his very young son who was playing and fell to his death through a window in their apartment. Eric pretty much stopped living...he was devastated. He also write an interesting song called, "Holy Mother", which he did with Pavarotti

Clapton is the only person to be nominated into rock and roll hall of fame 3 times. He is also in the blues hall of fame. Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, Bonnie, Delaney and Friends, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos, numerous Beatles songs and other top tier artist's songs and if they wasn't enough he released 24 solo albums. There will never be another like him.

Yes the Yardbirds had Clapton, Page and Beck. All three are master guitarists. They played at a skill level that so many never reached. Each shined so bright that all 3 of them needed their own spotlight.

I grew up listening to Eric Clapton. The last concert Stevie Ray Vaughan (my personal all time favorite) played was with Eric Clapton. 3 members of Clapton’s crew were killed along w SRV. Such a tragedy and loss!!! For a few hours rumors were that Clapton was on board that helicopter. And this song makes me think of my mother and daddy💔💔

Icon and legend, Eric Clapton will tell you that the late great, Stevie Ray Vaughn is one of the most gifted guitarists he had ever heard and whom ever lived.
I was working with a rock band when the news broke that Eric’s four year old son fell through and open window in the high-rise they were living in N.Y. at that time. Being a dad myself I was crushed and my heart went out to Eric and his wife for having lost their son. I was so traumatized at hearing the news that I couldn’t do anything, but weep. I was imagining how I would have reacted after losing my son, let alone, in that way.

Conor was killed when he fell from a window that was accidentally left open as he leaned out of a window on the 53rd floor, Clapton wasn't there at the time and as you know, as a dad you're expect to be the protector of your kids, it hit him hard.

Clapton is the O.G. Guitar God. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more times than anyone else, with The Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist. While with Derrick and the Dominos, he wrote his classic hit, "Layla", about Patty Boyd, George Harrison's ex wife. He also played lead guitar on The Beatles, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." It is a great idea to listen to the original Layla and then his unplugged version back to back. They sound like two different songs.

I know the reaction medium has been killed with all the official music channels on CZcams being blocked/removed, but I have to make suggestions anyway. My first thought after watching this -
On the subject of tragic or semi-tragic songs that maintain their dignity and manage to be genuinely affecting...
    Has this guy ever heard:
    (a) Any King's Shilling by Elvis Costello (it's from the album Spike)
    (b) Beeswing by Richard Thompson (it's from the album Mirror Blue)
    (c) Child With The Ghost by Gary Numan (it's from the album Berserker)

Probably the polar opposite of this song for Clapton would be the great live performance of "Tearin' Us Apart" at the Knebworth festival, 1990. That song is just fun. This man is an amazing musician. I see from searching your channel you've sampled him a little now. He has produced incredible music for decades, so I encourage you to continue the exploration.

As you were reading, i was hoping you'd get to the fact he wrote this song after his little son died, in NYC. THAT would have had you crying straight off, before a chord!

You’re exactly who Kevin Bridges was talking about

I'm sure you have a few dozen responders explaining this song, so here's one more.
His son maybe a year earlier who was living with his ex girlfriend who was his son's mom lived in NYC and her and of course, his little boy accidentally fell out the window of the high rise to his death.
The authorities and Eric himself clearly saw it was an accident.
    She and he were devastated
Had a lot to do with the way the building and it's windows operated I believe with the AC in it.
Nothing was properly mounted and acceptably secure enough for children.
Don't know what ever happened, if they were sued, but if they weren't, they should've been.

The window was accidentally left open by the cleaning lady from what I hear.

@@colleenmcclurg2010 Could be, it's a long time ago now.
I just remember the news talking about bad window mounts or something like that.
But, then again, when has the news ever been right about anything.

If music doesn’t move you inside then you’re listening to the wrong music.
