  • WHY LIVERPOOL WANT ARNE SLOT! | Tactics and career analysed
    Liverpool have opened talks with Feyenoord as they look to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager this summer.
    But why has the Dutchman emerged as the Reds' top choice to replace Jurgen Klopp at the helm?
    Reds reporter David Lynch has taken a closer look at Slot's career so far, which features overachievements at three different clubs.
    He has also taken a deep dive into the 45-year-old's tactical approach, and the underlying numbers that show up a number of similarities with Klopp.
    Make sure to let us know in the comments if you would be happy with the appointment of Slot as the next Liverpool manager.

    Sky had a European football expert on today talking about him and the comparisons to Ten Hag. Pointed out that Ten Hag has always had criticism aimed at how his teams defend, while Slot is praised for how his teams defend, evident by them usually having the best defensive record.
    I can not stress enough how little I care about him being bald or Dutch. As long as he can coach a football team, that's all that matters and from what I've read, he knows exactly how to do that. Seems a great appointment if it happens.

      Careful of listening to anything Sly Sports try to present on this subject.....it sounds like they are trying to bracket Slot with ETH already. They are well known for media manipulation. I only look on Sly Sports for team & transfer news, I don't take any credence in their analysis these days as it is biased indeed. I'm with you though, Slot does sound like he has potential and with all the Players & Fans behind him, who knows what that will bring 🙂

      The comparison is also a really lazy one. In no way they are comperable. To me Slot is the most talented dutch manager we have had in years. Way better way of communicating as well especially in english. It is hard to find someone who speaks worse english than ETH nowadays in the Netherlands. Slot would definitely be a risk but every manager would be after Klopp. The hand you could see Slot had in the way of play he had both at AZ and Feyenoord impressed me way more than what ETH did at ajax. Overmars should have gotten the credit ETH got. ETH made the same misstakes at ajax as he does now at UTD it just never got picked up by foreign media.

    Big factor in choosing the manager is style of play , four at the back , high press. It makes sense to get a manager that can seamlessly transition from Klopp’s style of play. The players will stay on board rather than become surplus to requirements, the confidence of the squad can hopefully continue especially with a strong Dutch connection from manager to captain. Even if Amorim or Alonso came they’d soon be off to Spain . Time to support the new manager

    everyone at Feyenoord would want him to stay for many years to come, but on the other hand, we all wish him the best because of what he, and Frank Arnesen as technical director, have done for the club in the last 3 years. After year's of uninspired and poor performances, it's been a real joy watching my club play football again. Some other stats that should hopefully ease your mind.
    When he arrived he had to built almost a whole new squad as over 15 players including previous season's mvp Steven Berghuis had left the club. They came in 3rd and reached the conference league final. Total transfer sum outgoing € 9.50 mln, total transfer sum incoming € 6.7 mln
    9 key players left after that season and so, again, he had to build a new squad, they won the league and reached the europa league QF, Total transfer sum outgoing € 38 mln, total transfer sum incoming € 69.3 mln
    another 5 key players including captain Orkun Kocku left the following summer and now they just won the national cup, will likely finish 2nd with 2 more points than last season and reached the L16 in the Europa league Total transfer sum outgoing € 35.5 mln, total transfer sum incoming € 41 mln
    I could go on but I'm sure he'll be fine if you give him some time

    Guys , let’s be realistic anyone we bring will be scrutinized. Nobody is going to be a Klopp not should they be, but they should be able to build on the foundations we have in place. We don’t want someone tearing down all the good work, that is going backwards. He seems like a good fit with what we have in place.

  • @rtcommodore9354

    The fans have always played a big role in Liverpool's success, so we have our part to play. The only perfect replacement for Klopp would be Klopp, and that's not possible. So we just have to be positive and patient, look for good performances not focus solely on results, and support the new manager through the steep learning curve of the first two seasons. Look for improvement, not perfection. Klopp won nothing and did not qualify Liverpool for any European football in his first season, but we saw exciting football and great, if erratic, performances. Still, plenty of people complained. We just need to give the new manager a chance.

    • @TravellingVineyard
      @TravellingVineyard Před 11 dny +1

      Saw a Muppet comment recently: Slot has to win a trophy in his first season 😂 Truth is Klop is on an elite level and those coaches aren't available. So a second tier,promising risky appointment it has to be. We have basically been at the pinnacle of European football for last 5 or so years. Obviously this will change, sadly. Fans expecting more of the same are in for a rude awakening.

    9 Dutch managers have coached in the EPL. 7 of these have been national coaches, 5 have spent time at Ajax & 3 at PSV. 3 at Man Utd, 2 at Chelsea, yet none have lifted the league title. Might be wrong, but a quick search saw only Van Gaal winning a title outside of Holland, with Bayern in 2010. Will definitely be interesting to see how he fares.

    He’s going to need to be box office. This is an incredibly difficult task. Taking over after an icon still at the height of their powers and popularity, 3 pivotal players yet to renew their contracts and likely to be in very high demand, the expectations to continue to compete on all fronts with a squad that can still win, limited transfer funds (probably!?!) to make changes and he won’t be seen as the first choice candidate and isn’t a big name manager. It’s almost an impossible job.
    He’s going to have to hit the ground running both in terms of points and his media performance.

    The most important thing about Slot needs to be that he is a very very good coach. He doesn't have to have the grand father personality of Jurgen because its actually not necessary. Jurgen has things about him that are not necessarily needed to make us a winning team. Id prefer a good coach who maybe has more ideas than even Jurgen, than the personality of Jurgen. I like the look of Arne. We have Edwards and Hughes to run the club. Arne just needs to be a more expansive version of Pep Lijnders.

    @thekarayiz Před 10 dny

    For Slot to win things, it's beating two teams domestically, Man City w/Pep + $$ (powers) and Arsenal w/Arteta + their change in approach when spending $$. Reminder: Slot will still be working under a budget (that's top 7 on avg. in the premier league if not 10) just as Klopp did but will be expected to do better. It's all good for Edwards to filter down players with potential on his laptop that fit the club's budget, it's a whole new ball game coaching those players to hit their required heights like Klopp did (a hit rate that needs to be in the high 90s percentile). The last time a Dutch club won the CL was in 1995 (which means beating the likes of Real/PSG/Munich). Slots turn to turn us from doubters to believers. Time will tell.

With injury prone and either in their prime or at the end of it will be really hard to do everything he has done at Feynord. If we play same players Liverpool has they will not survive intensity and keep getting injured. Maybe more than under Klopp. If that’s what’s going to happen he is going to be stuck between benching current top players for underperforming and then it can turn hard internally where players are rebelling. You get such wild swings in results from anyone coming out of the Netherlands, I think that's what makes people so hesitant.
    You might get Luis Suarez, you might get Antony. It's just so hard to scale the Eredivisie to anyone else. The various goal metrics rarely hold up outside of Holland.
    I'm not as excited by this name as I would be with the obvious others, but it could work out brilliantly.
    I appreciate a sober analysis, rather than the goofballs online who run their mouths without a shred of a clue, but again, that seems to be the problem with Holland, you just never know exactly what you're going to get from them.

    Jury is out, especially if it’s data driven. His performance/ results should do the talking. Gut feel, this is not really data driven as much as financial budget driven: you don’t want one of the stronger candidates (Amorim) because you think you might get more V4M by hiring this guy. I don’t think Slot will move the dial at LFC that much. To be the best, you absolutely need the best. Man City is fuck all without Pep G as an example. If Arne Slot was that good, he’d be pulling up serious trees already. I don’t see that with him, but again, I know sweet FA! But Let’s see how he gets on.
