- An episode clip from the 1965-66 season of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. where Sgt. Carter's beloved 1960 Dodge Dart hardtop is stolen, retrieved, and then accidentally crushed by a wrecking ball in front of Gomer's eyes. A 1966 Dodge Coronet Police Car can also be seen in this sequence. ...PYLE!!! - PLEASE NOTE: Fair use and educational value on TV History are the purpose of this posting, enjoy!
- Komedie
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣this is timeless comedy...the look of bewilderment then confusion then absolute disbelief...where was Jim Nabors' Emmy?
Two antiques in this video, a 1960 Dodge and a pay phone.
I'm so shocked someone up loaded this it was one of the most memorable moments in the series and I just had to look it up!!! it calls me to be really scared of wrecking balls when I was a child LOL
40 years later, I still LMAO whenever I see this...
It's perfect, it's just perfect not a scratch on it. Not the teenest scratch. LMAO. Gosh i wish they could make comedy like this today. I sure do miss it, this show was wonderful.
Good Memory from my younger days 😀
You may notice, in the episodes when Sgt. Carter drove the car, it was a 2-door hardtop coupe. When the wrecking ball hit it, the car was a 2-door pillared sedan--two different cars.
The original Hawaii Five-O was even more campy. In some episodes, MacGarrett drove off in a 1967 Lincoln and arrived in a 1968, or a 2 door to 4 door trip. The scenes were sometimes filmed 6 months apart.
back then, that 5-6 year old Dodge was worth almost nothing.
The actor who played the officer also played a Treasury Department guard in the Andy Griffith episode where a gold truck (decoy) came through Mayberry. Jim Nabors was a very important cast member in that one too.
Ken Lynch was his name. A very fine character actor always playing the gritty authority figures.
Beginning at 1:20, his reaction is incredible. However, it is noticeable that the crushed Dodge is a 2 door sedan rather than Carter's flashy Hardtop, a common Hollywood stunt where the "good" car is not destroyed. Oddly, Carter once again had the Red 1960 Dodge in later episodes of the series. Sgt. Carter's many cars included the 1960 Dodge, then a 1956 Dodge (Gomer wrecked that too), then a 1958(?) Dodge convertible, and then a 1966 Dart convertible (with mag wheels!) in the 1969 season.
The front end of the '58 resembled Sgt. Carter's face!
And of course, the '58 Dodge was destroyed when Sgt, Hacker dropped a match and it spread to a trail of gasoline, which blew up the car in the first episode of the fifth and final season.
jed6271 not saying you are wrong, I know they switch props all the time. I just do not see the sedan at the end. There should be a post from the door frame to the roof and I don’t see it.
Relax, my old man's a television repairman, he's got the ultimate set of tools, I can fix it.
Yes, it was a beautiful '66 Coronet 500, "no charge" to Carter, but oddly it was never seen again after this episode!! And, stranger yet, the Red '60 Dodge showed up again in later episodes of the show!
One of my favorite episode!!!!! They took Gomer Pyle off ME-TV, to put on The Beverly Hillbillie's!!!!!! Just terrible!!!!!! Put it back on, it was my comfort, after work!!!!!!!
2 cars were used in this episode. a 1960 dodge 2 door hardtop, and the one that was crushed was a 1960 dodge 2 door sedan. both Extremely rare cars today, 1960 is a great year for fin cars From Chrysler. 1960 chrysler 300, 1960 Plymouth, and the 1960 Dodge and Desoto!!! beautiful cars!!! when was the last time you saw one of these cars at a car show etc.......
Gomer reported to the police as a 61 Dodge
Sorry but in my opinion the 1960 Dodge was ten times prettier than the 1966 model. Fins and chrome rule!
Even if looked like a cut down '60 Imperial.
I remember this episode, God it is so funny! Wish you'd upload the whole thing!
Does anyone remember the episode when Sgt. Hacker accidently set Sgt. Carter's car on fire? It had something to do with, Hacker swipping gas. When he tried replacing it, gas leaked out of the can and caused an explosion. It was funny, seeing all the Marines running around yellng, "FIRE," and getting water.
14DaveHunter ...That episode was titled Car for sale,Hacker wanted to by Carters car by making weekly payments so Carter backs out of the deal and sells the car to Pyle since he had all the money,so to get even Hacker fills the gas tank at night to make Pyle think he's getting 45 miles to the gallon then when Carter finds out he buys back the car then Hacker starts siphoning the gas back out.Funny
I remember! Hah
@@marcdewey3848 Finally read your reply. Thanks.
He's gonna kill me, he's gonna kill me dead!
Classic episode.
2022 Rules forever 👍
Wrecking balls were used to be pear-shaped now Wrecking balls are spherical. So now there are only spherical wrecking balls. Phil Roman still draws pear-shaped wrecking balls even he only sees spherical wrecking balls in real life now. That is his happy childhood memory.
I bet Pyle thought for sure he was a dead marine.
so funny! thanks for posting
What a funny show this was !! LOL
My favorite part where the steel ball smash sergeant Carter 🚗
Simpler times,no cell phones.
I thought i was a Gomer Pyle junkie ; One thing i do is look at the credits at the end for the guest actresses- they tend to be accomplished and interesting people; one ied of lead posoining whicjh led restriction on lead content and another had fear of flying and became a pilot. One other note, this show may be the first TV show to you sex as a regular appeal, look at the actresses and the extras- all knock outs.
Love it,,,thanks for posting this
@vividwatch47 Hey, thanks, I didn't remember that the '66 returned for those episodes.
Strange, but I remember seeing sergeant Carter in the telephone booth on one of the episodes, the phone. Not Gomer Pyle.
That’s tough to watch
Did anyone notice at 1.30 the ball had droped completely and it was right in the center of the car and i could see the drivers door totally unharmed then camera goes away comes back the door is crushed.Back in the 60s there was no way for the average person to catch that because no vcrs or anything.I caught it guess hollywood didn't think the car was mashed enough they had to drop the ball again i guess??
I didn't know that Luke bryan played the voice of Gomer Pyle!
I wonder if Christine had a younger sister oh totally flattened just like her older sister.
surprise surprise surprise
The damage to the car is totally different in the initial crush and the subsequent shot.
I noticed that too; i wonder why.
Yes, that is right jed6271
try hiking the Appalachian Trail next year and find a new meaning to life. good luck
I laughed for days
you're on here looking or sympathy about your "hopes getting crushed." Go on the trail and learn about yourself; where you can't blame others.
I meant died of lead poisoning..............her inquiry brought about FDA regs
@120pure021 , Really?
Which episode is this
"Gomer minds his sergeant's car"
Too bad they had to destroy a perfectly good car for this scene. But I guess it costs money to film a show.
what actor played the cop?
D.J. John Hulsey his name was Ken Lynch
dekaph910 thx
He also played the chief state police a few times on Andy Griffith Show. He had a deep disdain for the small town sheriff.
Oooh, that made me cringe!
Shazam
