    What fascinated me the most is the ambiguity of the ending: I would like to imagine that Ernest did, in fact, find his way back to the cabinet, that he didn't freeze to death that night. And that the last words "he forgot that [...] he was going to die" don't refer to his immanent death, but rather to the certainty that he will die one day.
    In a way he needed this near death experience to escape the pessimistic nihilism, that made him wander off in the first place. He realized, that he had the comfort of a roof over his head, enough food on the table and a partner he loved. he was alive now, this was the only thing that truly mattered.

      Thank you for bringing my awareness to an alternative possibility. Before reading this comment, the seemingly senseless & unfair tragedy of a death that could have been so easily avoided at the beginning of a young adult life had me feeling… lost & unsettled.
      I’m more than aware that such deaths happen every day, all day perhaps, across the planet. But my own fear of death, of my consciousness simply turning off like a light bulb, going black like a dreamless sleep for forever, as if I had never existed at all, yet knowing for a fact that I HAVE had a conscious experience in what I perceived as a physical body, makes it all feel so horribly & unjustifiably unfair… almost wrong.
      Needless to say, I was left with a deep sense of, “no, that can’t be it…” that sent me to the comment section in search of something.. perhaps comfort or relief from the psychological stress I had at that point managed to whip up within my own mind.
      Anyway, I always do my best to offer alternative possibilities & points of views to others & try to consider as many as I can manage before making important decisions, & this time, I’m grateful that someone else offered a possibility that wasn’t able to surface from my own thoughts.
      Thank you for leaving your comment, it has helped at least one person today, & for that & other reasons not mentioned here, it has great value.

If we wander off too much, we'll lose our way to our cabin and most likely reach the conclusion that life has no meaning (it really does not, at least not intrinsically) and develop depression and lose interest in life. I think there is a little detail which adds a whole new layer of meaning to the story: the girl's name.
    There is a kind of memento mori myth called "et in Arcadia ego" - I (implied Death) am, too, in Arcadia. It is basically a story of two shepherds roaming around Arcadia, an earthly paradise. At some point they stumble upon a gravestone with this writing on it, and realise that even in this land, apparently so full of life and joy, death is always there, waiting.

I can somewhat relate to thoughts Ernest had, as it seemed like everything didn't have a point or at least the mystery of the universe consumed him, I knew he was going to fall in the water due to this. This goes to show that thoughts like these can destroy you, nonetheless I loved how you managed to make a good progression of these thoughts starting from the tv scene. Wonderful!

As if my birth and death has occurred in the same moment, and the only thing that keeps me in the present moment are these "meaningless distractions" but if we pay close attention to them they are not so meaningless. It is we either distract ourselves from the fear of death, or we embrace love that grounds our consciousness to the present moment, to truly be in the here and now. A meaningless life is beautiful and accepting that there may be no point or reason for existence at all is the day I actually started living. Doing things with passion makes you not care about whether or not you’ll get a trophy because the journey is so much more enjoyable than the destination. Have you ever stopped to think about how every living thing on this planet will one day die? And as you age people that were once alive when you were will be dead and replaced with new people. If you live long enough it'll almost be like your living in a different world than the one you started in. And even though you'd be surrounded by other people, you're more alone in the sense that everyone you used to know isn't around anymore. Family members, friends, loved ones.
    Imagine how many living things got to experience life, the world, the entire universe. We all share a common fate and that is death. It can't be that bad if your not the first and last or only being destined to experience it. Right?

    This has been like this for a while lol. I do enjoy chaos more than having none. So what I do when I feel depressed is to create a new problem and solve it.

It could be that he found the cabin exactly as the story said. We can't even say for sure he left the cabin in the first place. One reason he heard his girlfriend speaking softly could be that he'd fallen asleep on the couch and she was trying to wake him up to go to bed. Ambiguity is always intriguing.

    Emergence!! Now, that's a real plot hole in reality.. the fact that our reality seems to emerge only in the directions that we are exploring and perhaps reality doesn't yet exist in those areas that we haven't yet explored (conscious observer effect)🤔

    • @yiravarga
      @yiravarga Před 2 lety

      YES! Sentient Awareness is an emergent phenomenon associated with accumulative matrix functions, carried out by an information processing system (like the human brain). Yes, we can create a sentient AI with current technology. We just haven’t scientifically proven that matrix arithmetic gives emergence to awareness. Creating such a machine, would be a great experiment to attempt to prove this hypothesis is not true. Good science is experimentation that tries to prove an objective observation to be false. NDE (Near Death Experience), is an observation we can perceive about reality. I’d love to see what kind of experiments are thought of for this.

    • @PatrickRyan147
      @PatrickRyan147 Před 2 lety

      @@yiravarga I'm sorry but I'm more interested in what emergence is trying to tell us about the fundamental nature of our reality. Emergence obviously debunks the big bang theory because if we are living in a true big bang universe then every single part of that universe should already exist in totality.. but it doesn't.. not until we observe it (conscious observer effect as revealed by the double slit experiments). This would suggest that this reality is based around our consciousnesses.. which lends weight to the simulation theory and the holodeck theory (new).. I am more inclined to believe in the holodeck theory because string theory shows that we are 3D creatures living in a 9D reality.. therefore making our reality a sub-reality of the main reality.. ergo holodeck.. If you think about it, this would ultimately be good news for our species because holodeck scenarios are potentially eternal unlike true big bang universes which are not 🤔

    Excellent video as always. In the words of Alan Watts, "You are the self pretending it's not the self." More importantly Death, just like life is a constant change of state. Death is not nothingness forever because you cannot have one without the other. Yin yang. Existence is only possibly because of nothing. they are a partnership. Everything in life has a good, bad. Up, down, dark, light, strong week, life death. Death is the same as every duality. It's just the other side of the coin.
    Try to Imagine going to sleep and never waking up. It's quite impossible. Just like trying to remember before you were born. It is impossible. So either way death is nothing to be afraid of. To me it's a transition. Like dreaming, a break from the menotomy of consciousness. However if you don't share the same belief as I, you still have nothing to fear in regards to death. ›

    Sometimes I feel like I am not myself. It means I get to a point where I observe myself
    as a different being, something that should not be called my name, or something that simply can not be defined as just one human being. There’s this consciousness, which is the essence of ‘This Existence,’ and the rest of the things are secondary. When you are in that state, you feel more than sadness. It’s more like solitude where you don’t even shed a single teardrop.
    I had this sort of moment three times in my life. The first one was when I was so immersed in playing football and then heard the sound of a whistle signaling that the match came to an end. If I remember correctly, I was a sophomore in college. The second one was a little bit simple. I was on my second cup of coffee while I was pulling an all-nighter preparing for an important presentation at work. I remember that I got wide awake when I got into the state. The third one has not been that much long. Two years ago, I was on the verge of untimely demise. To be honest, I was trying to kill myself because I was going through unimaginably terrible neurological disorders. Before I hanged myself, one particular image popped up in my head. I saw a kid wearing a decent tux. It was me when I got an award from an oratorical contest. I realized that I had nothing to say to that kid except for this, ‘Your story ends here.’ And at the very moment I grabbed a rope, everything just disappeared, and I fell under ‘the state.’
    And strangely,
    I gave up terminating that kid’s life. I came down from the chair and decided to carry on with the pain and my miserable life. I know it sounds weird, but I just wanted to go ‘there’ again without any specific motives.
    And fortunately, I’m fine now.
    I don’t know whether I will encounter the situation ever again in my life. What I want out of that state is quite simple. I just want to feel the sense that I am a part of this huge and timeless thing going on which can not be perfectly explained or defined by any verbal concepts.
    Now, I believe the notion that I am everything and, at the same time, nothing of this material world. I came from ‘nothing,’ but I continue as ‘everything’ in this world.
    To those of you who are suffering from something painful, I just want to say one thing. If you didn’t exist, nothing in this world is meaningful. You are the most precious being in this universe, which is undefinable.
