There should be an honorable mention for the RX 5700 non-XT... it can save a few bucks, by shaving a few cores... but also noticably runs at a much lower TDP.

    • @notfunny3397
      @notfunny3397 Před 6 měsíci +15

If we're going lower, than the 5600xt deserves a mention too, same number of cores as the 5700 non xt, clocked lower.
The actual problem is 6gb of vram, but it'll still beat out an Rx 580 8gb if your budget can't quite stretch to the 5700.

And not only they pack quite some punch for 1080p, they also support most recent tech including mesh shaders, and if those begin to be popular as many studio seem to believe. The 2060 Super is an amazing card for the money. Until recently, I was using it in my daily driver and I never encountered a single game that I couldn't play at 1440p Medium settings. The only reason I upgraded (and this is relevant to the video) is I was able to snag an RX7600 for $185 (open box at Micro Center.) And while I'm happy enough with the performance bump, it's not a mind blowing difference. If you can find it open box like I did, the 7600 is an excellent competitor with these cards mentioned, but if not, just get a 2060 Super. You won't be disappointed with its value.
EDIT: In case anyone was looking, the specific card I got was the Powercolor Fighter RX7600. The Micro Center by me has another one also under $200, so I assume if there's a micro center near you, this is just the price they put on those when they're open-box. Keep your eyes peeled!

RX6600 family of cards are good for low energy consumption, oh 😀🌻. I've been using a 2060S for 3.5 years and I don't feel the need to change it yet. The card you buy comes down to how long you want it use it, all GCN, Polaris etc are moving to legacy driver status and I think RDNA is following due to it's lack of 12U features, RTX20 series still has a while before that happens.

The RX 400 and later renamed 500 series cards have aged surprisingly well. The drivers have seemed to get better compared to similar vintage GTX cards. What would have competed with the RX 580 8 GB at launch at the msrp... 1060 6 GB? Ali Express has a Sapphire Vega 56 for $117 (edit- it's used). That's an interesting buy. But you need to tune them properly. They are weird cards.

I love that the second card you got is ELSA branded. Sure it's not the same ELSA from before but as someone who built computers in the late 90s, early 2000s, it's a special memory.
If you don't know why, their drivers were a lot more stable and had special features not found in NVidia ones vaguely in the pre-Geforce era. And you could actually use them on any NVidia GPUs. Plus the cards had a super stable pixel clock and excellent output quality for high refresh rate gaming on high-end Diamondtron and Trinitron CRT monitors of the day, which was sort of rare when buying an NVidia card, though ATI and Matrox cards have all been OK, but they had other drawbacks making them sort of useless. My favourite only semi-useful card is for sure 3DLabs Permedia 2 though.
SOYO of your third card is also an ancient brand, but not a particularly exciting one. Of course also not the same company that it used to be.
2060Super are sort of hot but yeah the feature set is EXCELLENT and the performance is fine for everything you'd like to throw at it so far. I got one as well, just a used one that needed some care. RX5000 series has bad availability in my region and i am not happy with the feature set, and anything older gen is plain obsolete, which is to say, near $70 that you paid you can't do much better than that rx580, but this does come with limitations.

I don't know why you say "still performs" since he tested on all the older games save for Hogwart, and without DLSS advantage for the 2060Super. If new Alan Wake is any indication, sad times might be coming for pre-rx6000 series AMD cards. Variable rate shading is missing from rx5000 series as well, though i doubt it hurts it all that much.

If your playing old titles (like 2 years or older), and/or don't care that the chip is technically EOL (just security updates only) then a 580 is great for $60. However for newer titles it's best to stick to a 5700 at around 108 (non XT) or 6600 for around 120-130. Thanks to games like Allen Wake 2 and games that run on Unreal Engine 5 even mid range 5000/6000 Radeon cards are going to struggle at 1080p nowadays.

Question to Oz and anyone else who sees this: So I copped the ELSA RX 5700XT when this video dropped cause I was looking for an upgrade. Just got it this week, and it worked perfectly fine for the first day. Second day in (being yesterday), I was in a Discord vc with my friends screensharing me playing a game on from my Elgato Game Capture. Next thing I know, my audio started to completely distort out of nowhere sounding like something out of a FNAF game and then, my entire PC froze after a few seconds of all that. I took the GPU in and out and restarted my PC multiple times trying the same thing just to see if it was something I did wrong. Nothing changed so I just put my old GPU in for the time being. Does anyone have an idea of what the cause of this could be? A friend of mine said it may have to do with my power supply or that I need to DDU my old drivers, I just wanna get some insight from different angles before trying anything else.

    G'day Oz,
Not only are these 3 great 1080p GPU choices, I also like the build ideas you offered for each of the GPUs too. The Antec NX200M is a great case for the $.
We are currently at $1USD - $1.60AUD exchange + 10%GST but it is funny how price comparisons can vary depending on what the item is, like current CPUs & GPUs are normally 2x $USD but then you get other items like the Antec NX200M $55USD vs $59AUD.

For some reason, this is the video that got through to me, that it would be good to lower my standards. I already knew you could make incredibly solid builds for as low as $660 (12100f, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, cheap 600w psu, 7600, 50 dollar case), but this vid did show me, lower isn't explicitly worse. I already can't run 1440p (monitor literally can't), so what do I care for 1440p? I only have a 165Hz monitor, so what do I care for insane frame-rates. A 7600 could max me out, but a 6650 or 6600, or 5700xt would get damn close and cost an arm and leg less. Unless I'm willing to pump up to more vram, it really doesn't matter what I get.

Stuff like Alan Wake has really turned things on its heads in terms of what GPU's are worth it from a longevity point of view. The 5700(xt) don't support mesh shaders which means you're going to get way worse performance in that game compared to the 2060 super. Anything from the Nvidia 2000 series onwards and the AMD RX 6000 series supports mesh shaders, so you wanna try and get either of those if possible for future game compatibility.

    • @unclexbox85

I'm pretty sure people are still hoping that mesh shaders aren't the way to go, but Nanite in Unreal 5 is basically like mesh shaders, while it's not hardware locked it benefits from the arch desigh of rdna2/ turing supporting mesh shaders
