I love this breed so much. They're so smart and loyal. They just want to please their caretakers so much. They can be wary of strangers but it's just because they're so protective of their families. Love my Ridgebacks!
He was bred in Melbourne, Australia by the Stanyon's of the Kusini prefix. He has a key lot of my old Bearstar breeding behind him. I kept a girl from his first litter & I'm short listing a girl to keep from his second. He has many genuine greats in his pedigree. I was very lucky to get this dog build my old line back with.
Thank you. Yes he's as cute as a button and doggy people instantly see his sweetness in his face but when bad people pass our yard he quietly 'escorts' them past in his very alpha, "Just keep walking.", attitude 😉☺️
@@JJtheRhodesianRidgeback first, find their key motivation: pleasing you, food, tug-o-war etc. They are as individual as people and smarter than most so actually learn quickly and get bored with endless repetition for no good reason. Use, Yes, Good, whatever comes to you most naturally as the Marker THE INSTANT they do The Thing asked for, then reward. The Marker tells them what they did right to earn the coming reward. Do LOTS of sudden, unexpected (don't let them see you getting treat, their lead etc.), short burst training in all sorts of situations and likewise have a release word like, OK or GO when they are free to be goofy but also a snap back to work word, like Working, for when the funs over and you want them with you and stable. Remember they get bored quickly because they are smart but will likewise learn to jump to work when you ask if you didn't bore them but make surprise commands always worth their while 😉💖
My intro to RRs was a Dobe X Shepard X RR. Everything about him that made him the best dog in the world was typical of RRs. I never thought another dog could be that good, until I got pure bred RRs.
You would truly be amazed at the "internal" power a RR has in store. Like a Thoroughbred bred to stay, they have a heart to reach into and shock the world with, yet they aren't hot heads. It's in reserve for needful occasions.
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are great dogs, and powerful protectors. Boerboels were bred to protect, so they have Ridgebacks beat in that category. It's been said that Ridgebacks are hunting dogs that can protect, and Boerboels are protectors that can hunt.
Thank you, yes he is all that & more. I feel blessed to have got him & doubly so that despite his existence almost being forgotten by the dog world under the world's most Locked Down State's rules, he now has his semen in Europe to be used by the outstanding Rex Ventors Kennels.
That's a beautiful dark brown coat sorta like dark red Oak look to it mine had a much lighter sandy brown with the black mouth and also had white on he's chest like yours
The lighting always affects phone videos, but yes, he's more a dark honey gold. He's much lighter than many dogs in the showring now, but I also love the light wheaten RRs They seem to come with a lot of the structural features that a lot of the dark dogs are losing
BEAUTIFUL DOG I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW WHAT BREED MY NEW DOG WAS AND RESULTS TURNED OUT HES AN AMERICAN BULLY CROSSED RHODESIAN AND HE IS SOOOOO SMART AND MY GOD WHAT A HUNTING DOG WE GOT DEAD GROUNDHOGS EVERYWHERE FROM HIM
Yes my introduction to RRs was a crossbreed, best dog ever. Discovered all his "mongrel smarts" were typical of the Ridgie in him. Became hooked for life on RRs.
Yes, he has my old Bearstar (Australian), blood on both sides of his pedigree, and I had some lovely, top producing African dogs in my stock. Basically, I am building back my old lines from over 30 years ago. I had multi champ all breeds Best In Show winners in both my RRs and Border Terriers.
A kibble base and human food; meat, eggs, yoghurt, greens etc. It's also in his breeding. You should see his daughter. She shines like a honey gold sun. 😊
Do you have the breeders information you bought him from? I want a Rhodesian Ridgeback, but want a bigger/thicker one not a skinnier one. Yours has the perfect physique I’m looking for.
His breeders were Kusini, from Melb. Australia. He has my old Bearstar dogs on both sides of his pedigree, as does my bitch. He has now sired two litters, from two different bitches (12 in each litter), of lovely, well boned pups with his delightful nature. All his shown pups have won major awards.
My life situation caused me to go decades without any dogs then I ended up with 3 RRs, all having my old dogs in their pedigrees, and I'm shortly about to breed my own litter after nearly 30 years.🤗🐕🐕🐕
Love this. Someone dumped a 13 week old Rhodesian ridgeback puppy at the skate park and my friend found him. I took him in to get scanned for a microchip. Nothing. Well I decided to keep him since nobody obviously lost him. He is so so smart but keeps peeing inside. I know it will take time. Any advice I am all ears. I’m signing him up for puppy training next month when I get paid.
Crate training. You should be able to pick up a free or very cheap crate online, buy, swap sell or some such. ONLY have him out when you are DIRECTLY WATCHING & WITH HIM. Take him straight outside when you take him out of the crate and STAY OUT WITH HIM UNTIL he empties. Praise with, "Empty" or your word and "YES!", the, "You did good and are about to get a treat", word. Also, learn to tell his behaviour and posture when he's about to pee, if inside, distract him with, "No!", or your INSTANT, NATURAL no word or sound, pick him up and take him out, say your Empty word, HAPPILY, wait until he relaxes and empties. This can take a while but don't be tempted to go back inside until he does and stay with him so you can instantly praise and reward the behaviour in the approved place. PS, the crate isn't a punishment cage but a relaxing, rewarding, comfortable den. The hardest thing to discipline is OURSELVES. Best of luck 🤞
While I had many males stay with us, Mister is the first RR male I've kept for myself. He really is a delightfully sweet dog who's never shown aggression to anyone. He's just so mega alpha it never occurs to him to have to prove he is.

Thats a stunning looking looking ridgeback
He is an absolute specimen ❤️🐾🥰😍
Even better than that, he reproduces his qualities. I love this boy so much 😍
I love this breed so much. They're so smart and loyal. They just want to please their caretakers so much. They can be wary of strangers but it's just because they're so protective of their families. Love my Ridgebacks!
“Wary of strangers.” My neighbors RR used to pin their grandpa to the wall. Grandpa had a hard time with it.
Very beautiful! He has a perfect ridge it looks like.
I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix and she's a cuddle bug inside, a play bunny with other dog and a beast protecting the property from strangers ❤
got lord that is a pretty dog, one of the most beautiful faces I ever seen on a Rhodesian I think.
