#F1 #HowItWorks - Sport
I like how this channel is racing/F1 focussed, but not on the sport itself, but everything surrounding it. Giving us a wonderful insight in how these processes, which nobody thinks about, run smoothly.
Thank you!!
You mean he doesn’t make things up for views like those other stooges on CZcams?
This is exactly what F1 broadcasts on fridays used to be about. the obscure stuff that makes F1 what it is, not the drivers latest haircut.
super props to Matt, he makes the best behind the scenes content about topics most don't really notice or have become the norm and think nothing of it
Thanks Jelo!
Being able to hear the communication between the drivers and engineers is one of the things I love so much about F1. Without it, it would be a little boring. Such a unique thing to a sport, being able to hear live reaction's and not PR answers in front of a camera after the fact.
Matt this was class! Still got my ear moulds from my time in Formula E, but it was really cool to see the process of how they were made. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed!!
Is formula E easier than formula 1? It's a genuine questions no harm meant tho
@@twanhams2635 Formula E has much smaller team budgets than F1, and if I'm not mistaken there's more standardized parts. You can probably assume the jobs of the crew and factory staff are less complicated than an F1 team's.
'Easier' is harder to answer - Formula E teams' performance is a lot closer to each other, so driver skills play a bigger part in who comes out on top (as opposed to F1, where a Merc not making it to Q3 is basically impossible). And while the cars are slower, they usually race on street circuits (which have zero margin for error). Strategy is presumably a lot more difficult to develop as a result.
@@twanhams2635 this question can be answered from many perspectives, but there's 2 main angles to look at.
1. The drivers in FE have the same skill as the drivers in F1 as all drivers have the same training and they all usually come from the same junior racing series' such as F2. So, FE is not easier to race in than F1 as in you still need to be better than the drivers around you, and the drivers around you are the some of the best in the world of motorsport.
2. FE is easier than F1 in terms of physicality. F1 is higher top speeds, higher cornering speeds, longer races and longer tracks. FE is 1 hour long, narrower tracks and lower top speed. If you look at it that way, F1 drivers have to be physically fitter than FE drivers and they experience more G-forces than FE drivers. But this is only because E-tech has been in development far shorter than combustion power and F1 has. In the near future F1 and FE will become more and more similar as FE evolves to have better power units and better batteries, and as F1 evolves to become more sustainable.
Hope this answered your question. :)
@@awijaya2116 merc not making it to q3 impossible aged well
understatement on the 1.9 gigabytes a second, faster than your computer's internal storage!
I've always wondered how they worked with each teams, and now I know. Great video, Matt!
Haha, that last bit about the Audi radio! Who knew there was such a thing as too high quality.
I am really loving your videos . The way you explain the technology behind these very basic but very criticial things is amazing . Keep em coming
So is this how leclerc hear Hamilton becuase they confused the radio channels
F1 radios are not radios, they are completely IP based digital systems. There's no channels, it's like a WiFi system at 10Ghz.
Im an amateur radio enthusiast and an F1 fan.
I appreciate this kind of post. I love it!
"Timo, schieb ihn raus" is one of my favorites when it comes to funny radio massages
WOW... I'm 2 vides into Matt Amys' collection and I am in LOVE! You deserve hundreds of thousands of Subscribers! great work, keep this up and you will be an F1 CZcams Giant in no time!
Great vid as always, Matt! Really appreciate these behind-the-scenes technical insights. An idea for a future video: how does track timing/transponder systems work? I tried to look into it once and came across some fascinating posts on a forum somewhere, from an engineer who operates the timing systems. Apparently they have to arrive a week in advance to certain F1 circuits, to drill underground timing loops into the road surface…
Great idea, will look into it!
Love these videos man! As a tech guy love seeing how this actually works.
Absolutely fantastic insight!! Thank you so much for sharing this information. Amazing!!!
This is such an underrated channel !!
This was fantastic, so happy I was recommended your video today, gained a subscriber. Great content and very informative!
Thanks Luke!
Haven't seen any other channel cover this part of the sport. Immediate sub
Great video Mate, appreciate the creativity!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s really interesting! Thank you Matt!

Hold up holdup… 1.9 Gigabytes/sec?? Faster than most peoples connections at home? That’s faster than any connection period… that’s 15.2 Gigabits/sec, or 15,200 Megabits/sec… on a good day, I can get 200-300 megabits/sec… the F1 upload speeds are 50-75 TIMES FASTER than my WiFi at it’s best… the fastest WiFi I’ve heard of is gigabit WiFi… so even that is 15 times slower than the F1 car in its garage… absolutely mind boggling
Pretty sure those are gbit/s. Seems like normal 802.11ad.
I was wondering the same. But yes, he probably meant Gbps. Those few people he mentioned that has faster internet must have some crazy shit
Wow! Astonishing content. Great video production, awesome value. You earned my sub and gained 1 fan. Thanks!!
Welcome aboard!
Great video!
I got a set made by Ultimate Ear in the UK for motorcycle riding. They are incredible, especially with the Bluetooth connection. Super useful to keep the roaring wind to a minimum and hear the gps without having to look down.
Sound like an ad, but they really are that good ^^
Amazing!!!! that kind of things that every F1 Fan would like know!
Super interesting, good job!
What a great video man. Love it
New subscriber here, great content! It's sad that it took YT so long to finally show this to me, totally unfair to creators like you. Best of luck and thanks!
Thanks dude! What a lovely message 🤙🏻
ridiculously high quality lovely stuff
Wow, super interesting vid! Do you remember earlier in the season one F1 driver was able to hear another one? I wonder why that happened!
I like how u put ur adverts at the end 👌
Congrats on 50K!
The ear mould guy has an interesting accent. I think he may have been raised in South Africa and lived in England since he was in his mid-teens.
an underrated thing in F1, good vid!
Great video, thank you
great video well deserved sub!
Super cool! Would be awesome to get some made for maybe gaming or music
Kimi Raikonnen does not need radio. He knows what he is doing 👍
Very interesting, thanks!
"If you dont have a headset, you are a nobody"
All the mechanics at the garage: 😢
Such a good video🙌🙌
For anyone wondering, the intro song is Fights by AGST
I would love to have this with my communicator on my bike !!!
Hey Matt just a questionz what's the music in the background? It sounds really good
Really really cool
Ahhh yes, the obligatory Squarespace sponsorship. Very happy they sponsor these many f1 CZcamsrs
Still using the same moulds I used in formula 3 😁 little worse for wear but fit well. Pretty sure I had mrtc repair them a few times haha
Interesting that audio companies seemingly sponsor the headsets but not actually supply them.
you would imagine the race teams/track would just have a tplink wireless base station or cpe aerials all using the same ssid around the track and an aerial on the car so it automatically connected to the highest strength and then just have discord or similar app, just thought that teams would prefer the high bandwidth wifi link for HD camera live feed etc
That panel would be so dope on a dive boat.
Amazing!
Great video
what a wonderful video
Hi Matt, first time I have watched this video - very informative. I was wondering if the F1 teams have the ability to talk to the driver in a private conversation mode. In other words that conversation is Digitally Voice Protected (DVP) and anyone scanning that channel whilst in private mode would only receive 'White Noise'. Would be quite an advantage when talking strategy, tyres Pit Stop timings - would prevent other teams knowing what they are going to do next.
Only time the team can speak privately is when they come into the garage and are connected directly - anything out on track needs to be publicly available so no private conversation mode on track :)
This guy is so underrated
I wished they went a bit more into the radio standards they use for their two-way radio voice communications system. For example, do they use TETRA or NXDN or DMR? Or do they use another standard
This is the sort of things I wanted to do when I became a network engineer.
an excellent video
Yea no joke an F1 car downloads faster than my home internet, I’m lucky to get over 1gbps
What drivers are used for the in-ears? Dynamic? Balanced? Also how many drivers per side?
Fun fact, Carlos Sainz had to bite a piece of rubber when his earplugs were made...
(not really, I know, but singers are recommended to let the silicon set with their mouth slightly open (Smoooth operator ...)😁😁
Cool video! Really surprised they don’t use bone induction microphones 🤷🏻♂️
Bone induction headphones are pretty large, see the Aftershokz range. In-ears are very small so they don't interfere with the helmet, plus they have the edge of sounding better than Bone induction, less loss of lower frequencies.
1.9 gigabyte per second is something in the region of 15 gigabit networking
That's not just "faster than most people's Internet" thats straight up faster than any SATA SSD in your pc or laptop and faster that most high speed network connections you find in servers (those are usually 10gigabit)
It is 3-4 times faster than Nvme ssd. Forget about sata
Toto will have special headset made for him….🤣😂😅
5:40 is that Sebastian buemi?
It is!
You definitely are Daniel Riccardo fan are ya?🤣🤣🤝🧡
100%
As always, thanks for the info, the more you know, a? I saw an F1 mechanic a while back stick the ear piece in his mouth and then in his ears, and I thought, odd, but now I know why.
I need that 1.9 gigabytes of data transfer per second
now do Riedel :-)
Ok but how are they secured? Would love to know if there are any cyber battles going on behind the scenes
I don't know about radios on this, but every team have some high level cyber security system on their computers. Mclaren's Darktrace sponsor is one of them
I don't understand the covid test analogy........I've never let anybody test me for it. Lmao
'Valterri, this is James'
Need to game in an "F1 garage internet"
What about the Riedel Intercom Systems?
If by "most" ppl you mean 100% of them.
1.5GB/s is a modern nvme speed used primarly for OS, other drives get at best 0.6GB/s INSIDE a computer.
Not even best fiber internet is close to that. Let alone they do it wirelessly. DANG!
Kinda answered my response there, all teams have this second connection but not all at 60ghz speeds!
can it be used for my phone or my mp3 player.....
How is the Song at the start called?
So Toto goes through a new headset every session?
Where do i get some
Couldt a team in theory search and find a competitors channel and listen in?
I am confused right now, so the helmets do not have build in headsets? Because I have heard that the helmets have build in earmuffs.
Some do have built-in, some don't, it depends on the rules for that particular series.
@@Trig0r Okay, because WRC helmets have those, but do F1 helmet have them?
4:34 "Deal"
1.9 gigabytes a second , faster than most people's internet at home
bitch
i have 1.9 megabits per second
Question: where are the microphones for the in-ears?
They’re separate! Microphone is attached within the helmet and with a lot of headsets they get connected together once sat in the car :)
Gonna watch this in 2037 and get ptsd when he said “it’s a bit like a COVID test”
Yess!!!
Where can we buy the microphones ?
What microphones?
I don't know how fast your internet is, but 1,9 GB a sec is very, very fast. this is almost 16GBit/sec and I don't think anyone has this connection at least not a normal person.
Fantastic video quality. Not just cut and paste info.
Professional performers, musicians, sound engineers use these custom In-Ear Monitors
Can anyone tell me the name of the background music ???
Soo how about kimis radio getting hijacked by local takeaway 🤔
My internet is ridiculously fast and I'm at 400Mbit/s
1.9Gb/s is insane
3:46 what exactly is this stuff? I need it.
Which 'stuff', custom ear moulds?
2:00 1.9gb/s is fast?? I find it fast when i can download 1.9gb in 3hours
Race Car IEMs
v cool
now send the iem unit to crinacle for review
Ask them why tf does Verstappen's radio always sound like he's in a typhoon
2:00 Faster than most peoples'? Who the hell has 15.2 Gbps internet??!
Now I realize why f1 have so much interference, they have a really high frequency, its literally the same problem between 2.4hz, 5hz and 10hz
