Returned a PlayStation so he could get a helmet!? That much focus and dedication at such a young age; he literally had no choice but to be a champion. There was no other option at that point, the universe had to give in to that boy!
His father did it, not him.
And him cleaning his helmet every night, making it as good as possible for the next race. His love and dedication is unmatched
He has a very nice, honourable dad who did everything in a positiv way to Lewis that he can reach his goals. If u compare to for example Jos Verstappen its much different. Jos educated Max in a very brutal, strict way which also worked out as we know but I think that was not positive most of the time in his Journey. But still both are successfull

Full disclosure, I've been a Christian Horner & RedBull supporter since 2005.
It's unfair to compare drivers from different eras.
Lewis is the greatest driver of his era and generation. He's an amazing ambassador for the sport & life.
What's also amazing is when he talks positively about this generation of drivers, oblivious to that fact that he has influenced them. Very humble.
He was never gifted anything and worked hard for his titles.
When he made the switch to Mercedes, he did so knowing things could go bad for him.
If I had to criticise him, it would be for slacking with his guitar. Not seen him play for sometime!

Agreed, he's definitely very careful about what ends up in the press. Which is a shame because he genuinely seems like a fun guy to be around and if you ask a question he can answer, he seems enthusiastic about answering it

One of the things i mostly admire about Lewis, is how he never forgets where he came from and how his parents and stepmom would make sacrifices in order for him to chase his dreams 🙏
That's his #1 quality im my opinion. I agree with you. I feel he always remarks on his humble history, unlike others that don't comment on it. But most of those drivers come from $$$$
There are only few, likes of Lance, who don't do that. Every one of these drivers are a combination of great sacrifice and struggles. Some more some less. Lewis is very good at talking about those sacrifices for sure
I agree, I think it's why so many people have such the wrong idea about him. He seems so grateful for the opportunities he's been given and he's just taken those opportunities and made the best of them. He's an amazing driver, but even better is he's a good human being.

Very interesting, indeed. It is nice to learn these details about the sport, and Lewis explains it well. One thing I've wondered, though, is whether the drivers wear regular lower underwear (briefs, boxers etc.) or is that part of the underwear specially made from fireproof material (Nomex?) as well.
@@kennyj43 I race Speedway cars, I can answer that question for you - we wear normal underwear under the underwear in Speedway. I'd say in Formula 1 it would be the same, or they would have fireproof ones.

How talented is this man! I am sorry that unprofessional media tries to destroy his image, sometimes manipulating his words. Drivers shouldn't be played against each other. They are all risking their lives every weekend for our amusement.

Lewis is a really unusual character, humble and quiet but at the same time very much home in the spotlight. He was born to be a superstar.
What a gentleman! Worthy of his knight title. His knowledge is so profound, you can tell. I just wish we could listen to his explanation of all the intricacies of the sport, we could learn so much from him!
Genuinely such a good person. He not only deserves everything he has in life, but also has the ability to back it up with insane skill. He is one of the best racers that ever will live in motorsports history, on top of the humble childhood and poor upbringing

@@redface4662Pretty much what Max's car is doing for him now. The big difference is Lewis actually had some competition and challenge from other drivers. But its not Red Bulls or Max's fault they hit the ground running this era. The other team will have to catch up - when is the big question??
@@jamtalawah2231 I hope soon. This season I just want to see Max beat all the records. We are witnessing history right now. Even though it's boring you can't deny this season is on another level for him and RB.
Next year I hope for the sake of the sport and entertainment that some teams step up and bring the fight to them again.

the respect between him and rossi is really cool, you see it on multiple occasions.
Love that he respects the Valentino Rossi game despite many F1 fans probably not really aware of who or what he did.

The one thing I've always loved about Lewis's helmets is that you can figure out which one is his without having an eye on every detail.
I loved those yellow helmets going back to his karting and the fact that he was bigging up Senna.
Glad he name dropped my main man Valentino Rossi. That video with Lewis and Valentino talking f1 and MotoGP always gets me emotional for some strange reason.

I know it's completely unrelated, but hear me out. No matter what driver you support, you can't deny what Lewis has achieved. Hell, to be completely neutral, you can't deny what Max has done either. They have both made their own mistakes, but at the same time they are both undeniably two exceptionally talented drivers. All I ask here is for everyone to stop going at each others throats, and appreciate talent and/or greatness when you see it.

Love the bit about Rossi being the official "neon" representative, it's this level of mutual respect in the motorsport world which makes the competition so great, and Lewis such a great champion. If only his Dad knew back then, that his exquisite helmet painting skills would lead to one of the greatest drivers in the history of motorsport.

I’ve been watching F1 since I was a kid in the early to mid eighties. You go through periods where one driver and/or one team just totally dominates. Week after week, year after you, you get tired of it and start to root for anyone else to win. This is how I’ve been with Hamilton by the end of their run a couple years ago. After seeing this, I have a whole new respect for him and appreciate his great talent and dedication to Motorsport.

He started his career without deep financial pockets, nothing to frown on and this inspirational for many. Still my favorite racing driver and the favorite of many others.

This does make you wonder how many of those "random" brake/ engine failures occur because of tear off strips. Its not exactly obvious that all miss the car and Lewis also showed a lot of concern.
I'm still shocked that they don't require the drivers to tuck them into a pocket in the cockpit or something.
@@2005StangMan that's exactly what I was thinking. I mean they can exactly weigh much and the risk of them blocking somthing is high
One more thing to note, the gloves also have (i think they still have) biometric sensors that measure each driver's vitals during the weekend and in the case of a crash.

Arai is still the "cool kids" helmet except it's mostly to do with motorcycling on the plain streets... cheapest you can get em is like $600 USD (might be cheaper now, haven't checked recently) and many other brands flagships are between $600-800 USD so yeah... pricey stuff.

I feel like since the summer break we have this different lewis, he seems more relaxed and wide eyed. He seems to be opening up more in interviews etc etc its really nice to see him bringing some of his own personality back.....
Maybe....just maybe...Hes signed his contract with merc and its the last one. Maybe thats why hes now seeming more relaxed and almost at peace with where he is. Im sure he wont stop until he fights for one more championship BUT its almost like vettel. It felt like when vettel signed for Aston martin he started to wind down, be a but more open with media etc. The trend seems to be heading that way. Lets just see what happens

Lewis is doing one of the best F1 seasons of his career in 2023, but people don't realize because he is not fighting for a WC.
@danifloz: that's the same situation with every driver. They're all good but not noticed enough of their hard work and talent because they don't have the best car. Lewis enjoyed 8 years of luck in a dominant car and he had his share.
@@TruthPrevail777 thats not true, great efforts in a weaker car is always noticed and appreciated. Albon was very much hyped about his williams result, Yuki was appreciated for his fight against Norris and Lewis drives incredibly right now, he came back to P6 from last place after Mercedes messed up strategy. The last chase of Sainz and his Soft tire stint before the red flag were incredible and were also very well noticed by the speakers.

Great insight, LH44. The attention to details on everything part of his gear is just amazing. His dedication from the start is proof why he's the best in the sport bar Michael Schumacher.
In my opinion he is levels above Michael. (Multiple reasons why, I can explain them if you want me to, but it would take a while and a very long paragraph.)
Really want to see more of these little behind the scenes segments. One thing I never hear mentioned much is re-use. Do they just have their kit cleaned between rounds? All new? I know they use a new helmet for each race weekend, but what about the other stuff?
I believe the answer is no. Especially when they had the lighter suits he mentioned, they were pretty much destroyed after each session since they weren't built to last, but to be as light as possible. And on the helmet front, they often have 3-4 each weekend outfitted with different visors in case of changing conditions and a backup in case any audio stuff fails.

@@RancidCheeks : I don't know ... the Americans have been a bit touchy about rainbows lately, escpecially in and around Texas. In the Middle East the rainbow isn't really a thing because there's no movement (that I'm aware of) that actively promotes the LGBTQQIP2SAA community.
I actually like the rainbow helmets but Ofc I don’t like the meaning of it and the purpose of it being there.
