    An update on my comments below about my trailer. I highly recommend adding boat buckles to your trailer as I did. They are so easy to use. If the ramp is not busy, I will leave them on until I get to the water. They release with one push of a lever. Why do I leave them on until I launch? Because the lakes in CA are super low and the launch ramps are long and super steep. After the upgrades I have done to my trailer it's pretty dialed in. One BIG issue I have not been able to rectify, is the boat will not load straight no matter how many times I reset it. Also, It has to be winched the last 3-4 feet. (I don't power load) .The bunks pivot freely and are mounted equally. Very frustrating, especially my hull is getting scratched. I'm considering using liquid rollers but a little skeptical about that product. Also apprehensive about the nylon bunk liners.

    I have a 2000 model Key West, Bay Reef 196 boat. It sits on a steel trailer that has pretty serious rust issues. I'm needing to replace the trailer preferably with an aluminum trailer but galvanized would be acceptable as I regularly take my boat to the Gulf coast and launch in saltwater. I'm not having much luck finding a used replacement trailer in the classifieds, or finding any trailer sales companies who can help me out.
    Do you have any tips for finding a new trailer for my boat? Where's the best place to start?

    Where should boat sit on trailer? I’ve got a 17.5” aluminum bass boat which seems like all the weight is in front when I try to move it. Seems as if weight should be more balanced which would mean more of the boat should be towards the back? Back of boat sits on very end of trailer now.

    Thanks for the videos! I recently bought a dual axle trailer for my deep v. The boat that was on it was a much deeper V than mine. Is there a rule on adjusting the bunks to fit when it comes to keeping the boat level? I was thinking of measuring up from the ground to the lowest bunk and then cutting the others down to the same height. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    They way my trailer is set up, the tie downs on the transom are about 15" from the tie down points on the trailer. I already had the boat move up on me a few inches. There is zero chance the tie downs will keep the boat from moving forwards on a panic stop. However, on an incline, or a hard pull, they will stay tight. I don't see how my trailer can be certified like that.

    What about width between the fenders and overall width? Does the boat need to fit between the wheel wells or can the hull hang out over the fenders? Is there a general rule of thumb on this? Also, what about flat bottom boats?

    nothing about buying a used or a new trailer that did not come with your boat - how to deal with a trailer that is not made specifically for your boat - because either the boat maker never sold a specific trailer for your boat or the specific trailer for your boat is no longer available, so how do you fit a used trailer - specifically how do you adjust the bunks to fit your boat??? all the topics in this presentation are fine and and really basic and overly simple - but the one you need to know and what you will want to understand and do - is fitting a used or new trailer to your boat - how to adjust and move the bunks to fit your boat's hull????

      @@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon 100% freshwater. It came with incandescent lights, and not sealed. I converted to LED. The brackets for the rear tie downs are weak and bend, and they are too far forward, so the boat can launch forward. The original plastic bow roller destroyed the bow. Replaced with a customized Stoltz semi-v RP-446 roller. The only rollers that fit my trailer are for deep V, so the just grab the outer edges. The trailer was setup too heavy, and if you check out the jetboaters forum, it's all of them. I had to move the winch back 4" to get my tongue weight to 8%, a reduction of 200 lbs. The boat is never centered on the bunks, no matter how many time I refloat it. With my fenders completely under water, I have a hard time getting the boat off. And when retrieving, I have to winch 3-4 feet, and it's a hard pull. I'm going to get a 2-speed winch. Note: I don't power load, on or off. There is one bolt that holds the winch tower to the tongue, and it was loose, never tightened all the way. I lube the leaf spring shackles and every joint I could, still creaks. I replaced the wobbily DL jack with an ARK 750. I can't think of anything else right now....oh, ask me about the boat

    • @GiantsNinerFan56
      @GiantsNinerFan56 Před 3 lety

      @@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon LOL.. I really love the boat but there are a few issues. I'm sure you've heard of the infamous anchor locker fitting that allows the hull to fill with water. I fixed that myself. The build date for my model says there is a USB aux. input on the dash, it's not there. There are supposed to be 2 USB charge ports at the passengers captain chair, there is 1, and the 12v power supply for toys is missing at the stern area. I cannot adjust the seats unless I get down on my hands and knees, the mechanism is very hard to use, and is very strenuous. There are spider webs at the stern tow point, and I haven't used it yet. The routing of the engine hoses and wiring harnesses was terrible. I guess they don't realize corrugated split loom is like a saw when in a vibrating environment. Biggest issue is the vibration throughout the hull. When underway, it's ridiculous. I know these boats are extremely loud, but it feels as if the motor mounts are grounding, not rubber insulated. The vibrating is unacceptable.
