Boating is a luxury not a necessity, If a person has the worry about fuel and maintenance cost on a boat they should probably rethink their priorities! I have been a Mechanic for the past 25 years and I have owned my own auto and marine shop for the past 10, Most mechanical issues that I have seen with boats were usually caused by the owners lack of care and maintenance, improper installation of parts or not following proper procedures! The boat I currently have I have owned for the past 35 years, Out of those 35 years it has only broken down one time! It was Fourth of July 2002 we were watching the fireworks from my boat and halfway through the finale I went to start my engine and it would not start, Luckily there was a tow boat about 100 feet away that towed us! After diagnosing the problem the next day I found a defective condenser in my distributor, And the reason I say defective is because I had just replaced my points, condenser, cap, rotor and plugs two days prior with OEM parts not those crappy Sierra parts! Also I live in New Jersey and my boat has been docked in saltwater from June through September for the past 35 years! People need to start taking responsibility and stop blaming salt water for their lack of maintenance, There are boaters and boat owners people need to figure out which one they are before they make their purchase!
May want to add trailer costs as well. Lights, wheel bearings, tires, wiring, etc. great video and resource. Thank you!

We are looking at 38-50 ft cabin cruisers, and you have made me consider things that I had not thought of. Up until now, the biggest thing we have owned is a 24 ft tri-toon.

In Ontario, Canada, sales tax is 13%. It combines federal and provincial sales tax. You also get taxed on licensing the trailer, on registering the boat, basically any goods or services you purchase.

I enjoy your videos very much ! I’ve never owned a boat but I’ve been on them a lot as a kid growing up . There is no better feeling then being out on the ocean with the wind in your face , sleeping on a boat overnight and driving back in early in the morning when the water is com with no other boats around ! I say it’s worth the expense of owning a boat ! I like cabin cruisers but I really would like a high performance boat 35 ft. Donzi still undivided between the 2 .would I be better off to buy a new boat or used ?
I will not finance a boat, It's a pleasure item. I do my maintenance in the spring and take notes of future wear items. At this time I can plan for these repairs. When doing these repairs for example I noticed my power steering hoses were starting to look bad, so I found a local shop to make them up with stainless braided line with stainless lines. I usually spend about 500$ a year on maintenance materials. When buying from a dealer negotiate from the total out the door price. You tell them what you are willing to pay, remember you don't need a boat you want a boat.

Hey I’m looking at a used SeaRay at a local dealer who also has a vertical storage building. If I go to them and say I want to buy the boat and store it with them, do you think they would offer me the best deal? Do one stop shops like that ever work out for the best price wise?

It costs most of your disposable income. Rent one.
All depends on how much disposable income you have and what kind of boat you buy. Buy a quality used boat, do some basic maintenance yourself (if you can) and store in a reasonable storage spot (or at home/work if possible) and it can be somewhat affordable.
