    My father started in the boat business in 1964 at Sea Star Boats. He was hired as plant manager, within 4 years he ran the company and took it into the Mach I era. In 1976 he bought the company from Dominic Lizadro. Hell I was rolling around in fibreglass at age 6 lol. Dad cared about quality and graduated from Bradley University as an engineer. I built boats on and off for 25 years, mainly doing upholstery install and Mold and prototype work. The changes I have seen are crazy. I appreciate your channel and learned more from it. After he sold the company in 1990 everything went down hill fast and turned a good boat into crap. He did start Envision boats and mostly sold in the Ozarks until his death in 1996. Keep up the good work. Brian Felt

      @@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon That brought tears to my eyes. Dad unfortunately passed away before he got to see the finished product. Thanks man that means a lot to me, My stepmom took over along with her nephews and destroyed a great company and boat. Thanks again

    I agree and disagree with your first statement about fiberglass thickness of the hull sides using your palm of your hand it depends if it's a three piece hull construction or a two piece. The two piece is going to seem thicker because it's going to be backed with foam so it could be deceiving.

    • @BoatBuyersSecretWeapon
      @BoatBuyersSecretWeapon  Před měsícem +3

      That's a good point that I should have mentioned. If the hull is foam filled, it will sound more solid regardless of the thickness of the hull. Thanks for adding to the conversation!

    Some of this stuff is very accurate and some is very misleading. While M brackets may be stronger they are also heavier. So how far they are spaced out in one brand compared to how far C channels are spaced out in another would determine which is actually stronger and the weight ratio between the two would tell which is actually better, that sure sounds like a sales pitch matt ;). Weight is also the enemy of performance in any boat. Crest has the heaviest and thickest tubes but with your logic that would make them better where they are more mid tear at best. You are dead wrong on the bimini feet the black plastic ones in the picture are patented and the easiest by far to take in and out I have owned a lot of pontoons boats the stainless steel ones in theory sound better but they are finger breakers to get in and out leaving older boaters unable to use their bimini many times. You are exactly right though about screws vs bolts. Barletta uses screws and scrimps when it comes to securing their decks everyone knows vibration from the impact of waves over and over loosens screws no matter the type of screw or boat they are in. One thing to add when talking about thickness is you should do a gauge testing on the transom supports. The Barletta has the thinnest transom support and it is relying on rivets! Just like screws rivets loosen up over time. You should also do a helm comparison that is a huge way to tell a cheap boat from a luxury brand. The front deck is very important many brands give you only inches to 1 foot at best while the best brands provide plenty of room and the cheaper brands use corner caps on every series on their rear decks from lack of experience. Great video Matt keep up the good work! Have a Happy 4th of July!

    I live in South Dakota and am looking for a fishing pontoon but the question is about engines in the cold. The best fishing is just before ice-up and just after ice-out. Ideally, I would be able to go fishing in October and early November and April. I need an engine that would completely drain to avoid the night time freeze. I had a Tohatsu (Honda 60) tiller and never had a problem. That boat is gone and now at 76 years old I think I’d like a pontoon with a 50/60 HP engine on it. Any suggestions

    Hey captain, key west 239fs or seahunt 239/255 ultra

      I have a Key West 239 FS and love it. Been a good boat! I was also looking at a similar sized Tide water - and it was a lot wider of a boat. Would have got that if I didn't get a deal on the 239. Both of them are foamed filled, i don't think the SeaHunt is.

      Key west if anything I will spend a little more on a robalo center console better haul for your buck stay away from sea hunt I heard horror stories people would trade in for their sea hunts for a cape horn

      I would loop back around and take a look at robalo,sea pro, or my favorite sea fox if you are looking to have a nice appeal to a boat pioneer boats are not that bad or maybe realase boats two if they still make them good luck on your shopping choose smart and wisely in my opinion
