- On today's episode of Homeworthy we're taking you to Dallas, Texas to meet 90-year-old Joe Minton, one of Fort Worth's most iconic interior designers. He lives in a beautiful and historic home and is a fascinating person. His home's drawing room came all the way from England and has an incredible story attached to it. Minton's work has appeared more than a dozen times in Architectural Digest, and numerous times in other publications including Southern Accents, Veranda, House Beautiful, Town and Country and Traditional Homes. You're in for a real treat!

What a consummate old fashioned gentleman, with exquisite taste, this Mr. Minton is. He is my kind of decorator. He knows what a home is all about. I only wish he lived closer, as I would want him to be a close friend for the rest of our lives. He is a jewel amongst the rough. Three cheers for this treasure of a man named Joe!

I do concur , being a Frenchman I do like what I see here , the interior design is very similar to what we usually see in some places here , classical design with very nice pieces of furniture which can remind one of Givenchi's extremely stylish homes.

This is a beautiful elegant home and the fact that it backs up on a forest is perfect. This man has a great attitude. My mother also always said she would live to 100 and we just celebrated it with her. She is a watercolor artist and will have her artwork exhibited at an upcoming show. I think people need to see that older people are still vibrant and interesting.

He has the best attitude we should all have when we are discriminated against because of age...just shrug it off & go on with a smile...not hiring him was their loss, not his.
Age is just a number. I have met 20 year olds who were essentially old in their habitual thinking and 100 year olds who are young, vital and alive.

When he spoke of his military service, I would have personally loved to have seen a couple photographs of him from that era up on the screen.

This lovely gentleman does not look 90 years old. I absolutely believe he will live past 100; the best is yet to come! His home is incredibly lovely and full of beautiful, beautiful pieces. That fireplace is amazing.

It was pretty normal until everyone started getting dementia, younger and younger.
"Not many places where you are comfortable, protected, happy.." Essential formula for great design, creative and vital homesteading. Wonderful, Joe. You physically move/ gesture throughout your space as if you're 20 years younger than your linear age. Continued satisfaction and enterprise to you. Best for 2023.
I always tell people to never retire. When you have creative goals to accomplish ,you never age.

Great guy, I really like the fact that he is 90, has a laptop, Ipad and I phone. People say that people of a certain age, don't use tech, but he has proved that wrong. Fabulous house.

I absolutely loved watching this! I only live about 55 miles south of his home in Texas. For some reason, this video gave me more pride and confidence in myself: embracing my age, my décor decisions, my own personal style, etc. This spoke to me! What a charming and delightful man!

Our current age tends to idolize contemporary (modern) design and younger 'out there' designers, so much so that anyone who likes something other than current trends might feel out of it.
But Mr. Minton's video demonstrates that even if traditional design isn't currently popular, it'll always stand the test of time.
This is a rare home tour where I’m more fascinated by the person than his interiors.
What a sumptuous home, what a character! Joe is a testament to doing what you love.
My Dad’s Uncle;my Great Uncle was just like Mr. Minton, physically spry, fully witty and so smart he could talk to you about any and everything.

Ps. If you want the woodpecker to come back, hang a really nice walnut/nut suet and toss a couple raw or unsalted peanuts in the shell *(hines)…they will come in pairs. Males have the full red cap, females have the half red cap. They will look for food together until they have babies, then one at a time e will come looking for food *(and water, given our scorching summers). ❤

Being from Ft Worth I was inthralled with Joe Minton. What a memory he has and he is in fabulous shape. I wonder if he went to high school at Arlington Heights? I’m about 12 years behind him. He is a gentleman we don’t see the likes of very often anymore. And of course he is a fabulous decorator. Bet the person who didn’t hire him is kicking themselves.

I lived near Chatsworth house , so found this story particularly interesting. What a wonderful gentleman with a super sense of humor. Charming home and owner!! The client who fired him because "he is slow and old" was not only disrespectful, but he/she lost to have a great designer do his/her home.
A very fine and refined proper southern gentleman . Love the historic paneled room with the perfect color bleached wood walls . The history and the book he shared made this extra special . I plan to purchase the book if still available . Love the grand and elegant , and still comfy and cozy , interior as well as the lovely garden . Clearly a very talented interior designer . The garden designer designed the perfectly beautiful garden . The architect of the house created a perfect gem of a home made complete with the gorgeous historic Georgian paneled room . Lovely home made for living and entertaining . Well done . Shame about the age discrimination . He is clearly very talented and still capable . His age , talent , and capabilities should be celebrated . 🍾 👏

The story behind the wood paneling in the living room is amazing. The whole time I was thinking what is that paint color... absolutely stunning.
His home has to become a historical home - such a unique & timeless treasure. The flow from room to room, those gardens.... He and his wife have done a marvelous job stewarding over it. That client missed out on a fabulous designer!
It's also a very interesting idea to put the wood paneling of an English manor in a modern house.

Joe Minton is legendary in North Texas. Being from Ft.Worth, I remember hearing about him 50 years ago...when I was 15 and my mom was very into design and decor. His home is drop dead gorgeous, and the landscape is fabulous, too. Joe, anytime you want to party, just let me know! More power to you 👍

Wonderful historian and current thinker, love his home. Not doing the kitchen reminds me of my Dad who would be 95. "Why renovate a space I rarely use" but Mr. Minton I would love for your kitchen to be a little jewel box for you.

I haven’t enjoyed another episode more than this timeless, connoisseur’s, understated collection, arranged to perfection. The home was a living example on how to live with furnishings, appointments, with comfort, STYLE, and hospitality. The garden was transportive, and the interiors transcendent. Thank you SIR , in 1979& 80 I attended El Centro’s interior design department. I loved the East & Orient Shop , and remember the Chinese porcelains, and other TREASURES of Bette Gertez . Masterfully collected, and curated by a authentic gentleman.

The home and the collection of furniture and objets d'arts are obviously exquisite but it's a real treat to listen to him talk about his life and profession in a way that's not boring or exhausting like so many other people on their CZcams videos. And proof perfect age is just a number providing one is in good health of course.
I just lost my 90 year mother on Dec 22. She just had her birthday on Dec 4th. This gentleman should see 100 and beyond. He and his beautiful home are an absolute joy.❤️
Mr. Minton, your home is gorgeous. Your stories are so entertaining. Your great grandfather got the first phone in FW with the #1, and now you have a smart phone in your pocket! How amazing is that? You remind me of my father, who was seven years older than you. He was drafted into the Air Force as a lieutenant also. He got lucky too. He was navigator on a B29 bomber that had the third atomic bomb, when the war ended. He never went overseas! He lived in San Antonio all his life until near the end when he moved to FW. He died of COVID in FW in 2020, age 94. You look and sound so much like my dad. Both kind gentlemen. 💙

Now that's a very English...traditional. It has a grand feel to it if i must say. Can't believe the living room was transported to the States...wondering about the process. I'm lucky to live near Derbyshire UK...Chatsworth Estate he keeps referring to..it is worth a visit to see it.
The woods and the garden are just so serene and beautiful. I live near Sherwood forest which he references... in Nottinghamshire, UK . Another place worth visiting.

What a great Soul! He completely reminds my of my grandfather who recently turned 90 and has the same determination to reach 3 figures. Chatsworth is close to my hometown too and my family still attends car shows with the car my grandad built from scratch
