On today’s episode of Homeworthy, we’re taking you inside designer Dean Yoder’s extraordinary Long Island home. Dean and his husband Jonathan Grimm completely revamped the Dutch colonial home after years of neglect and turned it into the sanctuary of their dreams.
With a 30-year collection of 18th century antiquities shared between Dean and Jonathan, a surprise awaits you around every corner. Inside you’ll find a full suit of armor, a bust of Neptune made out of seashells, and everything in between. Dean’s keen eye for design continues outside with gorgeous gardens--- and even a Pagoda style chicken coop that transports you to another world. Enjoy!

May we see their guest house ? This was lovely to see.
Kenworthy you hit the jackpot. Awesome story!
Simply delightful. I adore this sweet couple and their fabulous home. Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing, the entire video absolutely outstanding!
My favorites are the gates to the tea room, your dining room and the beautiful desks. I kept saying oh my gosh every time you went into a new room. And your gardens, just luscious.
❤
This was absolutely one of my favorite episodes. I just loved the adoration between them both and I could listen to Dean talk all day, in fact very few people, male or female, have captivated me as much as he has. Simply a wonderful couple with a beautifully loved filled home.
You could be our new best friend. Warmest regards, Dean and Jonathan
@@dyinteriors Dean you would have so many best friends!! I too watched your home which is now my guidepost how I want to decorate my own victorian home. Your house feels so warm and welcoming and lived in. I loved how down to earth you and jonathan are and jonathan's craftsmanship and his desire to please you is clearly evident. Enjoy your life which is clearly beautiful
ps. you should have your own you tube channel.
@@mrs.jateighthundredw6687 what a kind and generous compliment! You are special person indeed!
@@dyinteriors Loved my visit, thank you. I would have loved an actual snippet close up of the details. There is a tea served at the cafe Paris, Regent St that turns colour, lavender to blue, and tastes a lovely floral or lemon, I cant remember, a bit of culinary magic theatre. I heard your voice tremble when describing your grandmother's book.I am now looking up what a Mennonite is as I thought that was a rock impression of an animal or sea creature, makes your grandmother intriguing.
This is one of my favorite Homeworthy episodes. They enjoy their home so much and have put so much of themselves into it. No pretentiousness. Love it. Thank you for bringing them to us.
Their gratitude for their life together and what they have is what is most memorable about this video.
Oh what a delight! These two gentlemen could have a morning talk show and wouldn’t we all be the better for it! This is engaging, intelligent charm that we witness so seldom in this frantic, whirlwind world. And their home reflects their hearts and tastes beautifully…a reflection of lives lived wonderfully.
What a joyful couple and beautiful house that is a statement of their joy and interests. It's so refreshing to see a designer not playing it safe and really expressing themselves. So much personality throughout the entire home but none of it is overwhelming. Totally fabulous! We absolutely need a follow up on the guest house.
PLEASE....Homeworthy, follow up with them for a sequel! This is just my favorite episode! They embody everything I DREAM of creating in my own home!
What a lovely curated home. I love how he said to so many pieces “I can’t believe I get to own that” 😊. I had a smile on my face throughout the entire video. I wish they would have shared their kitchen.
The full kitchen tour starts near video counter 30:00 and continues through 34:20. It is wonderful and worth going back to the video to see it.
@@vickilindsey4499 thank you
@vickilindsey4499 I love this home tour! And cookbooks. Would love to know the title of his grandmother's cookbook. Oysters in green pepper boats for Christmas 🎄 I would love to know!
I very rarely comment on any video...but I LOVE this charming and lovely couple...their values and their beautiful home. What a joy this was to watch!
He knew Iris and Carl Apfel ?! How amazing!! These two gentlemen are the epitome of a happy balanced marriage…that aside, I adore this house!
I caught myself smiling from ear to ear. Their happiness is contagious 💗
So refreshing to see someone express so much gratitude for what he has! Everything he owns has so much meaning and brings so much happiness to him. Everything they make together, seems to be a reflection of their devotion toward each other!
My family is close friends with Dean and Jonathan. This video doesn't even touch the surface of how kind and warm they are! Amazing taste and Jonathan truly can build anything!
We love you and your family! What a wonderful family indeed!
Lucky you, Sarah! They are clearly lovely people.
I love both the house, with it's charming old fashioned style, and the owners, whom are delighted to share with us their stories.❤
Would love to revisit this home during the Christmas holidays... absolutely beautiful in every way. One of the best shown on this channel. Thank you so much to Dean and Jonathon who are both a wonderful couple.
Not done watching but I have to say I LOVE this man! And his house! There stories…no pretentiousness. Just lovely!!
How delightful this couple is! I can only imagine how special their guests feel there. I even feel special just getting this virtual tour! Thank you for one of the best tours yet!
I'm not sure which I love more, the elegant home or Dean and Jonathan! This showcase made me so happy to watch. What fortunate friends and neighbors they must have. ADORE!
Sweetest thing is how grateful he is to own all these beautiful possessions and how much he enjoys sharing his home with others. I am so glad we got to see the incredible gardens! My favorite detail was the bust of Neptune they decorated with seashells. I'm impressed at how much of this sumptuous house was DIY!
As a European this is the first full episode of Homeworthy I have been able to watch. Such a wonderful couple, with so much love and respect for each other. So talented yet unaffected.
This is hands down my favorite episode ever! Their house is gorgeous and Dean is a joy to listen to and watch. So down to earth, gracious, and warm. I loved how he kept saying “I can’t believe I get to have this!” Dean and Jonathan both seem to take such delight in each other, which just tickled me pink.
I could listen to them both talk about their beautiful home all day. Just listening and watching it left a glow in my heart.
I don't always enjoy the men on Homeworthy, but this episode was the exception. Truly ego free and authentic from beginning to end.
I love the spirit of these two guys! How wonderful they found one another and be so happy together! So creative! I love the greeters in each room. So special for those who enter. I would love to belong to your garden club! That chicken house is to live for! All has such a wonderful story to share. Thank you ! I would love to see your home next door, too!
I love this beautiful home, especially the living and tea rooms. I can’t believe they diy’d everything! Jonathan is a master furniture maker 💕. What a talented couple
You guys are so lucky to have found one another...the perfact match. Love the house, it's contents but most of all both personalities.
Thank you Homeworthy! Alison Kenworthy, you were so wonderful to work with and your editing skills are magnificent. I thought I was a bore and you have spun gold out of my endless yammering. A special thanks to your fantastic cameraman, Travis Dover. What a kind man. You both made the day so much fun! Our deepest gratitude to you both!
@dyinteriors You were fantastic! You and Jonathan!
@@dianafromaustralia3244 thank you so much! We both loved your comments. I am sure you are a national treasure of Australia. Perhaps we can do a zoom tea sometime! Lol…
@@dyinteriors Of course!
Oh your home is so beautiful. Love everything! You are both very talented with exquisite taste. 💙
Of all the house tours, I enjoyed this one the most. I didn’t want it to end! We needed to see more of the kitchen and we definitely need to see next door! What a lovely couple, thank heavens they found each other.
This really is one of the good ones. Not only is your home exceptionally beautiful and filled with precious pieces, but it also has IMPECCABLE TASTE. The color schemes of each room are unusual, the furniture and decor are unique and just screams sophistication. But what really truly makes your home beautiful is the love you have for your home, the decor, and for each other. I would love to visit Long Island just to experience this gorgeously love-filled home. And the partnership between one dreamer with the vision and one practical person who executes the vision is perfection. You guys are extremely lucky and your home is truly a joy to see.
I love this charming home and all the stories of the collections. Thanks to the couple for allowing us into your dream home. 😊
So much to love about this home and its owners. It’s a delight to see a home that reflects the taste and hard work of these two-hoping to see the guest house, too.
Honestly they could have been an series on the show. So much was glossed over in the interest of time, and we missed out on so much. Golly I will probably watch this a hundred times just to take it all in.
Come for a full tour and dinner or perhaps tea on the weekend if you don’t have much time. Our offer is sincere!
What a charming and gracious couple!
They are both so grounded - I love when he said, “Get out the good china, if you’re putting on the dog”. The house and gardens are fabulous!
He learnt from Iris Apfel - More is more!
You know how few men accompany their partners in a video showing and talking about their home? I love these two.
How delightful, by far one of my most favorite episodes! This divine couple are a match made in heaven and their souls found each other in this lifetime, the perfect yin and yang. And this shows in every single detail in their home, a life together of curating and handcrafting everything, while showing their gratitude and humbleness that they are able to surround themselves every day with such beauty! ❤❤❤
What an absolutely lovely couple. They are both so talented and I love how Dean constantly complimented Jonathan. He beamed with pride when talking about Jonathan being a genius and his many talents. Their home is beautiful and a true reflection of their many talents and their joint effort. Their garden is simply gorgeous.
Love these guys and their home. Amazed at all the work they do themselves.
I thought the house was fabulous… and then there was the garden… what a magnificent place! 🤩
Agreed, I just about fell out of my chair when they toured the garden! A work of ART! I think I need to rewatch this again! It's been raining here in the SF Bay Area and I have been binge watching HomeWorthy
An amazingly talented couple. The wood furniture and wood carving they have done throughout the house is incredible. Some of those pieces look like antiques from another era.
The home is positively stunning! However, the love that the two of you have and show for each other is the foundation of your beautiful home. Thank you for sharing your joy.
As a keen decorator and purveyor of French antiquities, this was an absolute joy from start to finish! A house where the personality and tremendous skill of its owners, in their respective crafts and passions shone through! How inspiring!
I have seen some great houses on this channel, but this one really stands out. Every room caused me to exclaim, "Wow!" Also, I was thrilled to hear the term boiserie! Such a lovely word to describe the wall decor, and nobody uses it. The gardens are as spectacular as the house. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Probably my most favorite episode of Homeworthy, a fabulous combo of the space, the occupants and the creator. Thank you.
I loved this Homeworthy. They are both well-spoken and could have a second career with their own show! This house goes on and on and is one of my most favorite Homeworthys(ies?) The speaker has such a natural way of showcasing their home. They are an inspiration to entertain more frequently. Watching such creativity is an inspiration!
This is it! These guys set the bar! My favorite home and most lovely couple. Their taste and skill is impeccable! Also their dining room is the best dining room I've ever seen. You all hit it out the park having them on the show.
We just love you too! Come for a quiet supper sometime. Our house is always open to visitors! Cheers!
Someday soon can we see the guest house too? Everything about this showing was magical!
A match made in heaven with a beautiful home . The pagoda chicken coop and surrounding garden are amazing !
Nearly one hour of pure delight with both the talent and joy of living this incredible couple share with us! Thank you so much!
OMG, this home is exquisite, and the talent and charm of both gentlemen is amazing. Thank you for showing us your home.
I really enjoyed this tour. Although Dean and Jonathan are formal people, they don't come across as stuffy and pretentious. Their taste is impeccable. How delightful it would be to be invited to their home. Dean looks a bit like Steve Martin, don't you think?
What an interesting and unique home and you can tell the gentleman who own the home put a lot of care and love into it the gentleman giving the tour was entertaining as well😊
You two are AMAZING!!! Your creativity and ingenuity is incomparable! Thank you for taking us on a tour of your lovely home!🦚
I did like the house but I liked how the owner taught us history as well.
First, I'm from Glen Cove (born & raised) and these fabulous men live a stone throw from my childhood home. Second, my partner and I would LOVE to join you for one of these incredible dinner parties! We're in NC now but will be in Glen Cove around the holidays. What are we bringing to dinner? Champagne? Hors d'oeuvres? All I know is, this episode was everything I needed and more. Homeworthy videos have become a Sunday ritual and this delivered! The love between these two was so beautiful to see and their talents were remarkable! I smiled, laughed, experienced the joy and pride they give to this beautiful space, and now I'm on the hunt for two new friends!! Dean & Jonathan - adore you!
What a beautiful couple and gorgeous home. I am home sick today and this video brought a smile to face and I forgot I was sick for 50 minutes ❤ hugs from NYC 😊
I feel like I only watch these for the gardens. I’m obsessed with gardens, plants, beautiful landscapes.
I love their place. The house, the gardens the antiques, everything!
More is more is better I say..
For those who wonder about the CookBook it's Ruth Berolzheimer's American Woman's Cookbook with thumbed index.
I have my mother's 1944 edition given to her, no doubt, by her mother in law.
It is great piece of culinary history in the United States and at times hilariously dated by today's standards; already outdated in the 1960s when the likes of Paula Peck, Craig Clairborne, James Beard and then Julia Child came along.
One of my favs is her recipe for Tomato sauce that calls for 1 slice of onion and then directs you to remove during the cooking. We have gotten much braver in the kitchen!
This is a wonderful comment, thank you!
@@dyinteriors Thanks. I really enjoyed your video.
There is interesting information about Ms. Berolzheimer who, it seems, was not much of a cook but a strong willed business woman!
Try searching for: Omnivorous: The Cookbook Queen. She never married but the article includes an interview with one of her nephews.
Sending Warm regards from Boston!
Andrew
Oh, my goodness…I need hours to just pore over every little part of this home! I adore homes where every piece has a story that you really want to listen to. I wish the camera person would’ve shown the ‘gothic’ table in the foyer that the gentleman created, and the yellow chest in the bedroom that he built and carved with no previous experience is absolutely stunning. Why I really would love to know are some of the paint colors in the house, especially the what to my screen looks like a peachy terracotta color and the green and teal in the dining room and foyer. Thank you so very much for sharing this beautiful home and grounds with us!
What a wonderful couple! Their home is filled with love, art and beauty in everything. The gardens are exquisite, especially in he White Garden. Too bad I am not a client or a long lost relative, I would take home those French gates, after a wonderful delicious weekend on The North Shore!❤️🇫🇷❤️. Thank you for sharing you home with us ❤️.
Dean Yoder, you are a teacher! I learned something new in each room you showed! I have too much furniture today! When our parents died we recently received antiques. Marble and cherry and walnut Burl. I edited an art book and loads of people gave me art. We have 5 sets of china and one set of cobalt with isotopes. I would love to entertain a lot. We have few friends, no near relatives and so I am a lonely people person. You live a charmed life!
This home and couple are in my top 5 favorites. Beautifully done home full of creativity and amazing things hand crafted and discovered from a place of true love. They are one in a million and I'm so happy that I was allowed a peek into their wonderful life. Well done gentlemen!!
How sweet, Jonathan built that table for you❤ true testament of love❤ would’ve loved to have seen the house before you decorated it😊
This man is one of the most generous people to share so much knowledge and time with us.
Jonathan is a gem, by the way. What good souls they both are.
Very talented people.
The home is beautiful.
Interesting and gorgeous.
Something to see and appreciate everywhere you look.
Just wow I love people who allow their imagination to run wild and are open to taking risks. Gorgeous thankyou for sharing:)
I love the old fashioned vibe of the home 💚
The two of you were meant to be together....you design fantastic chest of drawers and Jonathan makes your dreams come true💕🌸👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Pro tip to whomever has sea shell and coral arrangements: Compressed air in a can is how you dust them. Great vid as always Homeworthy!
Wow! Just wow! Mesmerizing decor from the moment you enter. The wall treatments are outstanding with architectural detail & color. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home & stories with us. ❤️❤️❤️
Love this couple. Years of being together and creating an absolutely lovely and loving home.
What a treat! Love these guys! So inspiring. Many thanks for this amazing episode!
My idea of a dream host “ fix your own drink … you know what to do 🥰” One of my favorite video hosts , l have learned learned so much watching this incredibly lovely gentleman.
This house was delightful and reminiscent of a time gone by. Its refreshing that there are still people who value vintage and antique items and choose to surround themselves with them. Am sick of this minimalist/ soul less / greige /boring trend that is doing the rounds. The next installment should be their guesthouse next door😊
Your home is stunning. It goes on and on and on. My favorite part was when you held your grandmothers book in the kitchen. Your heart was showing. Thank you for a wonderful time.
Dean, my ears perked up when you said you were raised in Bay City, MI. That was my home town also. Your antique desk is beautiful and quite the find. Thank you and Jonathan for the tour of your gorgeous home.
I was actually raised in Midland, Michigan. We were shopping in Bay City when we found the desk! Nice to meet another Michigander here on Homeworthy. cheers!
Joyful home and couple; every inch is a representation of everything they love and the gratitude in acquiring such antiquities really shows.
My daughter and I loved this episode
Thank you ❤
I would join his garden club just to enjoy his lovely yard and aura😊
You two have created a beautiful home and garden that wonderfully reflects your spirits and love of life and beauty. Thank you both for sharing your spaces! P.S. Please share your guest house with us!
Their home is lovely and they are lovely! I completely understand when he says he can’t believe he has some of the Antiques that he’s dreamed about for years. I feel the same way when I stumble across something that I thought I could never have. They are so unpretentious and grateful quite charming couple.
One of the most fascinating episodes! I would love and watch if they had a youtube channel
This is the perfect reminder of what happens when you connect with your, SOUL MATE..👍👍
This home is a work of art, especially the Jane Austen room! Thank you so much for sharing this dreamy place! 😍💚
What an amazing home. I absolutely love the paint colours they have chosen. Jonathan is a superstar
I absolutely loved this episode. These two gentlemen are just amazing. They bring a smile of joy as I watched this FAB episode. Thank you for introducing them to us all. 🙏❤️
Absolutely perfection. What an incredible home.
These gentlemen are AMAZING! My husband and I rate their home number one. We absolutely love the fact that they do the work themselves - such creativity and exquisite taste. Thank You Homeworthy!❤ V🌹
I'm in love with your home. A true work of love. And your collections, WOW. You definitely chose well for a partner. God bless you both always. 😊 ❤️❤️
I agree with other commenters, this is one of the best episodes of Homeworthy! This house is grand yet charming, formal yet welcoming, it exudes warmth and opulence yet is livable and cozy. Dean and Jonathan are exceedingly talented, gracious and generous.Thank you for sharing your amazing house and philosophy with us.
Love hearing how they met. So cute. Great house.
What a nice couple!! Love the home with all the details they've created but especially love the gardens and greenhouse. Beautiful! I just love your channel thanks for bringing such amazing homes and people 😊
Lovely home and super cute couple. Lol, Manhattan is too far from queens, long distance dating, indeed! I love his stories as much as the home. Furthermore, how incredibly talented they both are building, carving, collecting so on and so forth. There is so much to take in.
Love a house with a story ,and this has many more to Tell. 🌿 BEAUTIFUL 🌿
What a fantastic tour. I could listen to him speak about his belongings. The stories he has about them. Wish I had friends like them in my life.
Wow - love this house and collection - unreal how he can pull off all the warm tones in the living room with the blue - and who could ever resist a Potato Chip Tree 👍 great couple and love the collection!
They are the sweetest and most delightful couple. I would love to be a guest at their stunning table.
Let’s make it happen. When on the NorthShore or in NYC, let us know!
@@dyinteriors OMG you’re the best.
I LOVED this episode soooo much!! What a gorgeous home and couple both inside and outside- just filled with love- it’s clear that this home is a beautiful experience and I’m so happy to be invited to share a part of your wonderful lives! ❤❤❤❤❤
The guys have made a stunning (understatement) home. I remember those "message boxes" LOL
Water in a foyer is an excellent choice for Feng shui. There are just so many different schools. One should only choose the school that resonates with one’s own likes.
This is absolutely one of my most favorite episodes!! How charming - live the tea room and gardens!
Not just a fabulous home but a museum - and such taste. - Luved hearing bout the history of each piece - such lucky guests to share and feel truly welcomed - you guys are the best 👏
I would love to have seen the handmaid entryway table and the beloved desk a bit better, but I love the happy appreciation the two guys have for the beautiful things they've been able to acquire.
