- On Today's episode of Homeworthy we're taking you to Hillside Farm, a fabulous property just outside of Philadelphia. Ruth McKeaney and her family live in a beautiful historic home from the 1700s. On the rolling grounds you can also find an enormous barn, a chicken coop, a cutting garden and so much more. They spent years lovingly renovating this property and wait until you see what the home and farm used to look like. You won't believe it! Enjoy!

This woman gave up her career as a prosecutor to stay home and raise our 5 children. I am so blessed to have married such an amazing woman! She truly makes me Hungry for Home everyday!!!!!
She truly is amazing. She even has her Dad living on the property. God bless you and your beautiful family.
What a Godly wife and mother.
❤
@@FaithfulGardnerDNPgiving up career to raise children doesn't make her Godly. It makes her privileged.
Odd question… she refers to her husband Mike at 10:50, huh? what about Bob?? I love this video and have watched it several times! True homemaking!
This is more than just a house tour, it's an example of how to live a beautiful life. Every time she mentioned a painting by a friend, career advice from her uncle, her children's' artwork, her younger brother and his friend helping restore the property, hosting her daughter's wedding, all of the family parties, the apple trees gifted by her cousin....it shows you real wealth is not money, but relationships. Her life seems out of a novel, and she seems like such a wonderful person too.
Totally agree Dee.
@@yolanderuto3347 Her life is just so FULL of the contributions she has allowed AND cultivated with so many other wonderful people.
@@robyndismon394 what an inspiration. Just wondering how i, as an unremarkably average joan can be more aware and awake to the many opportunities of such engagement with family, friends and community as i'm sure there are for all of us...

The lady is SO articulate, creative, elegant, genuine, affectionate, appreciative, and humble. She really deserves the place. Thank you for sharing this amazing home and the lady of the house. ❤
Very well put. However, you left out "fabulous".
@@michaeloconnor1479 my apologies.... 🙇
I see a lot of folks in the comments saying she is quite remarkable, but I absolutely loved how she praised her husband so beautifully. He obviously has a deep love and commitment to her to do so many projects! Wow! Full time job and non stop home improvements! And 5 kids!!!!!! Where are the other men capable of this! What a beautiful loving family. Home is where the heart is!
Hello lrodri!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
I’m blessed to have a husband like this who gets up at 4:30 am for work and is out the door till 7 pm; he then talks with our 7 children while working on projects, healing our sick chickens (seriously), counseling our young adults on life decisions and working in our church, too. I am blessed.
Modern builds just can't compete with the unique beauty of a period house
Isn’t that the truth!
100% Agree
You are so right.
We gave home-building creation/design over to builders instead of architects, and, instead of emulating previous, beautiful DESIGNED structures.
We gave up beauty + charm, for efficiency. Dumb tradeoff that seemed like a great idea at the time.
It wasn't a great idea.
Hello Laura!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
So true. We just built a house but we added wallpaper and crown moldings ourselves. The builder would never offer that.
I have been retired six years now.... this is by far the best home and property I have ever seen. Her style, their vision and the surroundings are like out of a dream. This is a home. And what a blessing that they have had 5 beautiful children to share and enjoy it. And with that many children, there will be lots of grandchildren and generations to come to be blessed by their legacy. Ruth is an amazing woman with an amazing view of the true meaning of life . This has been bookmarked so I can watch it over and over. And the book is on my Christmas wish list .
Thank you!!! Everything you wrote, was exactly what I wanted to say... 🌹
This one is my favorite. It is so personal and meaningful that it is exactly what home should be. What a lovely woman. I want this book and will look for it. Thank you.
I agree and I watch these home shows all the time. I've especially been hooked on the BBC's "Escape to the Country". Sometimes there are also fabulous old properties like this but nothing compares to this one. It's totally off the charts terrific. I can't wait to get her book!
Liane abeyta, I agree. I would love to have her as my neighbor. But of course, I would LOVE to have her home. She has done a wonderful job in decorating it and everything.
Awesome woman, amazing property. Obviously they are self-made, very hard working and down to earth. Family is their foundation, their life. I'm blown away.
As a single woman, I realized she was able to create that amazing space because of her amazing partner working with her and children supporting it. We all don't have that situation, unfortunately. However, we can all apply the same principles of making our home tell a story and be a safe place for family and friends. What an inspiring episode! Thanks, Homeworthy.
Husband not a "partner".
Hello Angela!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
@@LoveandMissesone's husband isn't their partner? Yikes, that's too bad.
True. Not everyone chooses marriage and family.
You said it and described her so beautifully❤ yes thanks Homeworthy❤️
This lady just beams with love for her family. It's clear how much she loves her husband because she speaks of him so much. I love her warmth, and yes, they do have a beautiful home.
This is incredible - please, more homes like this - THESE are the types of homes that inspire!!!!
Pamela! I agree with everything that you said 💯 %!!! This is the most Beautiful home I’ve ever seen! ❤❤❤
I agree! Beautiful warm and welcoming home, full of love for family and friends, what an inspiration! Would love more homes like this!
Hello Pamela!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
This has always been my dream property, to have an old home with ‘nooks and crannies’’, all that land, a big barn, ruins, guest cottages, and a cutting garden. I’m too old now to realize that dream, and we have no family. How wonderful for Ruth and her husband and family to be loving caretakers of this paradise they’ve created. This is the family that SHOULD be in the home. Its perfect! Ruth and her husband clearly love each other and must be good friends who respect one another. May they enjoy many, many years of continued joy.
Hello Tracey!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
This is one of my favorite videos, and not just because the story of the home is amazing, but I truly loved listening to Ruth tell her story. She's down-to-earth, well-spoken, and a great storyteller. You can tell she loves her husband, her children, and her home deeply. This is so refreshing.
Hello !!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
" To create a safe space to not be perfect. " We all deserve to feel safe in our own home. What a lovely woman and an absolutely gorgeous home .

Hello Pammy!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
What a remarkable woman who is really interesting , I saw her as someone who is so authentic and has a strong sense of family ,I loved how she ended her tour by saying my hope is that I’ve created a home where people can be imperfect and feel safe.. loved that.
And we love people well ! A perfect role model of a lady
Couldn’t agree more
She used to be the assistant attorney general … she’s so interesting on every level
Ugh! I thought she was arrogant, smug, and full of herself.
I bet the Grinch was your favorite Dr Seuss character/hero before his heart grew😆
Her love for her husband and family is palpable--so genuine. That loves flows throughout the beauty of their home and the amazing landscape. ...a joy to watch.
❤️❤️❤️
I never thought I could be moved to tears by a home tour. This family has built a HOME in the true definition of the word. What a beautiful, precious place! Absolutely a sanctuary of love.
Hello anamaria!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
@@DavidBride-vu8tc hello.
@@anamariaacevedo8864 How you doing this lovely evening??
STUNNING. Now THAT’S a house! Perfectly imperfect. Curated not decorated. It’s been edited to exactly what’s needed to make it feel utilitarian in a way that’s loved, welcoming and not overly done or staged…..a place you want to stay for long summer visits and fun winter, family filled weekends as well as simple dinners that stretch waaaay into the night with good food and good conversation!
You can’t beat the feel of a large family farm. Beach properties are great and mountain properties are fab too but for that restorative, exhaling experience, a grass roots moment on a farm that’s spanned generations has a healing effect like no other place…..it’s the feel of the stones & the boards that you know have been touched millions of times, it’s the smell of the fields & the gardens, it’s the sound of the music that the birds, crickets and voices make when mixed together that make a healing symphony.
This family HOME and it’s story is wonderful & inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Wishing you many more generations of loving ownership and successful living!!!
❤
These farms are found in ⛰ too 🙂
You have such a gift of writing! I hope you can write something special yourself someday!
She’s wonderful. This is not only a story about her house, but about her husband and family. Pretty apparent she married the right person. How amazing is that!
Yes..My thoughts exactly ! Lovely!!
Hello Kim. How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
What a kind, wonderful lady. Her house speaks so loudly for her family. It’s a home through and through and gorgeous at that.
Hello !!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
Wow! What a woman...what a family...what a home! People who live as these folks live and have done what they've done restore one's faith in humanity. They serve as a beautiful example of what it means to make the world a better place. I'm so glad I clicked on this video. I've been elevated and inspired by the wonderful Ruth McKeaney.
This lady needs her own youtube channel. I have six kids and I would love to learn from her about making a home beautiful and welcoming with littles.
Hello Kim!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
This has probably been my favorite tour so far. What an incredible woman, story and home! I think what made this tour so special was her storytelling. At one point, I got choked up when she said she prayed about what was next and her book was revealed. Thank you for introducing us to her and I’m on my way to support her and her family by buying her book.
I got choked up at that exact moment, too! 🙂 Yes, what an incredible woman and a beautiful home full of love and history.
Glad she spoke about how one career cannot replace creativity, flexibility, & family.
You can instantly tell she is down to earth. I love that she decorates with items that have sentimental value. Great episode!
Never have I been so profoundly moved by a home tour and by its host being such a beautiful human. What she has created is heaven on earth: a haven of family, food, love, creativity, such joie de vivre and gratitude for life. She has made an exquisite life for herself and all who know her. I admire her so much and will definitely get her book -- as someone who is Hungry for Home ❤

I absolutely agree, this was propounding moving to watch - it was the woman’s spirit & intention in everything & proves there can be such dignity in creation of a home.
Liliana, you've expressed my sentiments exactly. I totally agree. Profoundly moved and inspired is how i feel.

This home made me feel love and family.
Hello how are you doing today
This is the best episode. Her love for Thy Almigthy Father and for her family is a blessing to be watched and inspired by.
God bless her and her family.
The way she talks about her husband & family is so refreshing
Amen
Out of all the episodes I have enjoyed from Homeworthy, this is the one person I would love to know and visit her home. She hits to the heart about what a home should be -- not just beautiful fabrics and elegant furniture or antiques, but making a home meaningful and about family and connection. I love artwork that speaks of family and the people who are part of it. Her heart of understanding that no one is perfect and all are welcome so that we can bless and love them well while they are in our care is so needed in the world we live in today. This is what all homes should strive to be, and I am inspired by not only her aesthetic, but her heart of giving and grace.
Totally agree!!!
Oh gosh, I grew up near there! Beautiful place! I miss SE PA sometimes, it's beautiful but crowded
I also agree. I’ve watched most of the homeworthy videos, and this one by far is my favorite!
Hello Victoria!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
When she bolted the door with that wood “lock”, I was instantly taken back to when I was 12 and spent time on my great-grandparents little farm in Alabama, that is exactly how they locked their door. I can still, at 61, remember every room in that house.
Love, love, love this❣️ So refreshing and beautiful. 🤩
What a lovely memory.
My Dad’s shop had a heavy metal ‘bar’ that went into slots over the back door the same way as her wood lock… instant flashback to 50 yrs ago!

Wow, I have never heard a women speak so beautiful about her family and especially her husband, truthfully and I’m 75 years old. And my name is also Ruth 👍🥰❤️
"... a safe place to not be perfect." Clearly Ruth understands what makes a home. Great home. Great story. Thank you.

This Ladys whole persona is off the chart.
Integrity. Substance. Composure. Passion. Importance of family. The tiniest details. It’s like she does this for a living. Complete absence of bullshit. The herb patch, everything. Excellently well presented.
Well done.

This, i think, is what can happen when you find the right partner for each other. You reach your full potential, you create a world and a life for each other that you love, and you give more to others.

This is the kind of thing that feeds my soul. Being able to stroll through someone’s home and sit with them and hear the story of their home and family….I just cannot get enough. What a beautiful home. What a beautiful lady. What a beautiful story. ❤

Heartwarming sorry…Cherishing family and history.
She had me within the first 2 minutes when she shared the sculpture of the kids. Wow!
More than the home, I love the LOVE that this family shared. How the husband continues to honour her and their family through building this home.
The barn with its table seating 32 and its wooly bench warmers is fantasyland for me.

Hello Anne!!! How are you doing?? Hope am not being rude for writing you first???
This is one of the best of these I have seen. I like the real people, not just rich designers.
She is the best host and story teller ever. A wonderful visit to a lovely home.
What I love about Homeworthy is that we get to meet such creative, talented, and interesting people who share their homes and lives with us. The homes are all unique and simply beautiful but what I am noticing is the common thread is family. Whether the family is parents, grandparents, children, friends, or pets they're remembered and cherished throughout their homes. Many of their possessions while beautiful more importantly have memories attached to them and were often given to them by family and friends.
Ruth's home is beautiful and she is so multi-talented. She appears to have such a generous and giving heart.
Hello!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
Magnificent labor of love. And she was a joy to watch. She is whimsical yet down-to-earth; charming and real. This is truly a dream home, the type of home you see for sale on a website like “Old House Dreams” but you know to restore and remodel it as well as she and her husband have would take a fortune and a lifetime. It’s my dream home but mine would be on a much smaller scale. A lot of labor, great interior decorating, and I’m sure love have gone into this masterpiece and I’m grateful she has shared it with us. Great choice for an episode Homeworthy!!!

i am sooooo happy to find a home tour channel that actually lets the owners talk and tell their story. such a more enriching way to watch.
Love the house, love this lady's personality and style, love all the artwork and details which show this is really a labour of love. This is a 'Home". This is the kind of house that I want to live in, not those glossy that are over-decorated.
" to create a safe place to not be perfect in" that's a real home!
I too love this episode. I think I love this home because it seems to have developed so organically, it feels real and not too designer-precious. This type of home and decor is within my reach, is relatable, unlike some of the homes featured. I love the stone ruins.
I am not really a farm house person but this is authentic and lovely! I respect that they kept the original integrity of the home in the renovations. And how touching with the framed song her mother wrote to her. Truly personal like a home should be!

I had tears in my eyes all the way through this. Her love for her family and friends shines through her. I could listen to her all day long and still want to hear more. What a joyous life Ruth has had with Bob. They've worked their butt's off and created a stunning home with outstanding gardens and raised 5 wonderful artistic children. I feel all warm and fuzzy after having peeped into their life, you may not think it's perfect Ruth, but it's as near to perfect as is possible. You and Bob were made for each other. I'm going to order her book & bake those cookies.

This EXCEPTIONAL woman... and her home... captivated me beyond words. She should have her own show, this being Episode 1... I’m incredibly inspired... and in awe!!!
Your home is just beautiful. I live nearby in Pottstown. I have spent 37 years trying to make my 44-year-old home look like yours. I am just drown to that Era.
I love this episode because Ruth embodies life, love and adventure. Her statement that a house and its contents tell a story is a wonderful way to look at one's home; their's is an estate which the majority of us don't own but the message is the same and we can be inspired by her style of decorating and hosting. This house looks like it's lived in which I appreciate.
Hello Louis!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
People always comment a house as their favorite. I tended to like all of them for something of it. But today I have to say this is my favorite. The house the farm, the barn, the garden. And most of all. The owner, she is a wise person who has great test and lucky enough have five children. Thanks homeworthy!
What a beautiful homestead you have! I believe it is your attitude and love of life that has made it the incredible place it is. Even though I don’t know you, I felt like a welcome guest in your home throughout this tour. We need more people like you in this world who are filled with positivity and who shine a grateful and graceful beacon of light for all to see. Thank you for sharing your amazing, love-filled home.
Hello Ruth from our farm in Central Lakes Region - New Hampshire. I have to say of all the Homeworthy episodes, yours is my favorite! We are 3rd generation N.H.. There are three properties on our 350 acre working farm. ( grass fed beef). The original grandparents farm is on the Historical Register. My husband and I build a new home in 2016 at the base of the main farm, in the woods. The outside is quite plain for the moment, however, I wanted to recreate a functioning farm kitchen that would have been used in 1935.
I always loved watching the original WALTONS movie and first episodes. The movie was set in 1933, with Patricia O'Neal as Olivia Walton. Like you, I started with family heirlooms and thrift finds. Our 1930 Home Comfort Kitchen wood stove came from Great Uncle Robert's farm that sits up the road from us. It took me a year to restore it. I also restored Great Aunt Dorothy's 1900 Faultless treadle sewing machine in a beautiful oak cabinet. Now I am working on a 1926 Hoosier baking cabinet and farm table. My last piece will be a small golden oak ice box.
Your personal style reflects functional and tasteful family living. It was also done with respect for history. We are by far more rustic, but your choices are a tribute to your lifestyle and family values.Thank you for sharing this journey and restoration and for writing a book that mirrors your story. ~ Diane
There are no words for this video. I love every inch of this home and grounds, but the most beautiful thing is the owners. The love and warmth come pouring out. The stories are priceless. “ To create a safe place, to not be perfect” is the most empathetic thing I’ve heard. Thank you so much for sharing. I can’t wait to buy your book. I want to be your neighbor.❤️
“A safe place to not be perfect “ …… and a perfect place to be safe and happy. Loved this interview and the home so much!

This house is absolutely gorgeous, this shows how much you don’t need a so called decorated. This lady is way better at decorating than any of the decorator houses that I’ve seen on your show so far
Hello Angela!!! How are you doing? Hope am not being rude for writing you first?
This was probably my favorite of your spotlights, Alison. Thank you so much for capturing the tasteful, inviting beauty of this home and its grounds - but more importantly, the beauty, warmth and intelligence of this inspiring woman. Wow, if only every head of state and home could emulate she and her husband's values. Almost unbelievable she did not begin as a lifestyle guru - or an interior designer by degree. Such an innately creative individual. Really enjoyed this episode!
My favorite tour by far, not just for the property but the meaning and values embedded within. She has such a great energy!

I love your daughter's 'in progress' cow! The delicate paint colors around your home are a joy, and your garden and barn are incredibly beautiful. Even your highly discerning cat shows refined taste, reclining in style on a most exquisite, birds design sofa. Thank you so much for this lovely tour.
Love the story of your mom, and the songs she wrote for your family, what a treasure🥰

Wow she is just incredible, her house is amazing . I love how she talks about her husband, she is a blessing to her family. I got teary eyed a few times listening to her talk.
As a fellow self-harmer, I was delighted to hear you have a cutting garden too, which is so progressive. Love to you, Bob and the family.
This is so much more than a tour ❤️ a labor of love and passion. This has inspired me in my own space. I found ourselves in a similar situation, an expectant mother shifting from another home with a blank canvas to create a warm and welcoming space to share with others. ❤️
I love how each piece is intentional and has thought behind it. It creates space for story sharing and I think that makes a space that makes people feel comfortable.
A few things I took away from this video: “I love setting a table, create beauty when people come so they feel you thought about them and you feel welcome.” The cutting garden, the herb garden, each art piece having attachment.
Phenomenally done. Thank you!!
So much love and sincerity and authenticity oozing out of this lady. God bless them.
