Fr. Mike finishes the gospel of Mark by reflecting on the death and resurrection of Christ. He also encourages us to reflect on the redemption of our own sins every time we see a crucifix and to return that same sacrificial love to God every day. Today's readings are Mark 15-16 and Psalm 22.
We hear every day from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. I wear a crucifix around my neck everyday to remind me … this is a PRICETAG that Jesus paid for me to be with Him in eternity. My sins are forgiven. I love you so much, Jesus. Thank you for loving me so much.
Day 161 - The Crucifixion Of Christ. Today is Sunday June 9th, 2024. Deo gratias.
It wasn’t the nails that kept Jesus on the cross. It was the overwhelming love for each one of us that kept Him there. Meditate on that love, on the awfulness of sin, what it cost our God. It’s hard to wrap one’s mind around it. We need to bring that into the very core of our being. I am loved that much & my sins are so awful they caused the gruesome, horrific, torturous death of the Son of God.
Oh Jesus, I don’t deserve Your love & sacrifice, but You gave them up for me anyway. Thank you, my Lord & my God. I give myself up to You. Use & mold me to reflect You.
Thank you Jesus for dying for me and all. Jesus I Trust in You! ✝❤🙏🙏🙏
" It is not the nails that kept him on the cross, it is his overwhelming love for you" very powerful statement Fr Mike, just stopped me in my tracks, We know this stuff but just to have you express it really hits home, thank you.
Without a doubt..a beautiful and humbling statement
I agree
Made me tearful reading this again. 🙏💗
June 9, 2024 Sunday. Here I am.

How do we listen to this and not cry?
🌟ALMIGHTY GOD, help me to trust You, delight in You, and commit to focusing more on You and less on my worldly desires. Remind me that when I grow in a relationship with YOU, my ultimate desire will always be for Your will and for Your glory,🙏🕯️🌟GOD, When I'm struggling, remind me that how much you love me inspite of my brokenness. You are so merciful dear GOD, please forgive me.🙏🕯️ Grant me peace in the chaos and unexpected hardships.Even when we don't understand the chapter, we must trust that the Author of our story is good...and all things are working for our good because 🌟GOD'S ways are PERFECT.
🌟GOD'S power is protection against evils
🌟GOD'S light illuminates my mind with wisdom
🌟GOD'S love fills my heart with peace & joy.
🌟GOD'S presence, watches over my life.
🙏Amen.🕯️

I randomly started listening to BIAY on Oct 30, 2022 and today’s reading just so happens to fall on Easter Sunday (4/9/23)! I certainly didn’t plan it that way. But how cool is it that I got to hear about the Resurrection on the very day when it is celebrated!
Paraphrasing: It is neither the nails nor our sins that kept Jesus on the cross, but His love for us! WOW!!
Oh my word...so powerful and what love we have from our Lord.
The timing of Jesus' crucifixion, matches the timings of the sacrifices made by the priests in the Old Testament, don't you just love the linking that neatly ties events together.
The most moving reading in the Bible. The contemplation of Jesus on the Cross suffering for Love of Us. Amen. Claire.
Day 161..such a horrible description of his crucifixion! I've always wondered why they casted lots for his possessions? The only good thing to come from this is Jesus' resurrection..glory to God!
But you, O Lord, be not far off! O my help, hasten to my aid..delivery my soul from the sword. You who fear the Lord, praise him.
Prayers for Father Mike and all the BIY family who are traveling through God's word together ❤ 🙏
The casting lots is, firstly, to fulfill Psalm 22:18. The reason they did it, at least according to John 19:23-24, is that the tunic was seamless so they couldn't tear it. Blessings to you!
God ripped his garment with grief that man would not open their hearts to Him and His Son.
Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.
Transcription (I changed it a tiny bit) - Why do we, as Catholics, have crucifixes (with Jesus on the cross), instead of just plain crosses? We don't keep the image of Jesus on there because we're keeping Jesus on the cross, not at all! What that image is meant to do is to remind us of at least two things:
FIRST - it reminds us of the devastating effects of sin. The recognition that when we look upon Jesus on the cross, we're looking at "This is what sin costs. This is what sin does to us." Sin cost the very life of God himself. When God became incarnate, when God became one of us for our sins, THIS is what that meant. THIS is what it cost! When we look at the crucifix it should pierce our hearts and always remind us, THAT'S my sin up there. Those are my sins on the cross."
SECOND - It reminds of it's not the depth to which Jesus suffered that redeems us. It's the depth with which he LOVED us. So the second thing that the crucifix reminds us of is the very unstoppable and absolutely faithful love of God, the self-giving love of God, the self-sacrificing love of God. Not only are we reminded, "Look. That's what my sin costs," but we say "THAT is the price that God believes that I'm worth." God believed that YOU are worth the death of his son! The son of God believes that YOU are worth his own suffering and death. It's not it is not the nails that kept Jesus on the cross, it's his love for YOU. It's overwhelming to be loved like that. Just imagine being loved like that. THAT'S how much you are loved!
Truly amazing Old Testament showing the Crucifixion Psalm 22. Mark 16
Thank you Fr. Mike for this powerful reading and prayer today! God bless you and everyone listening
My Lord, my Lord, you are holy. I am a sinful man, but I am your beloved son. For the sake of my brothers and sisters and Father Mike and their good deeds, be not far off, forgive me, save me, deliver me. For YOU are the most high, for YOU are the Lord, for YOU are good. Amen.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ❤❤❤❤ prayers father Mike amen amen
June 9 2024, grateful for His sacrifice
Thank you Father Mike🙏
Thank you father Mike, praying for you all.. enjoy day 161.. ❤️🙏🏻
I like your profile picture and seeing your comments. And yes I am three months behind lol.
A great reminder of God's love for us through Jesus.
*Jesus’ corpus on the cross reminds us of His love and His sacrifice even though we know that He is now in Heaven
* “The nails didn't keep Him on the Cross but His undying love for us”- Jesus could fight the captors and foes but He sacrificed Himself for us and for God’s Will. His tortuous end remained a sign for generations to come to show God's love for us and the way to salvation.
* Psalm 22- Plea for Deliverance from Suffering and Hostility- a Psalm that resonates with David, us and Jesus as “No answer to my questions during the day and no rest at night” is what David had when enemies (his own son) were chasing him, when we are troubled in life, and when Jesus faced his day of crucifixion. “Aba, Aba, why have you forsaken me?” summed up how Jesus felt and how we feel when we find that God is not talking to us but like Jesus’ resurrection, there is indeed an end to all suffering if we consider suffering as a way to salvation. We have to just follow Jesus, God's Will and trust God.
Thank you for your reminders and analysis, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners
Thank you, Father Mike, for your commentary. I read the Gospels but like the Ethiopian man and Philip, I too need someone to accompany me. Today I find myself weeping over the love that God has for me, for us all. Yes, my sins contributed to Jesus’ death, but He has redeemed me. Laudetur Jesus Christus!

Thank you, Father, for this gift.
Even though I know what happens I still get emotional over Jesus’ love for us. Thank you Father Mike for being the conduit for us.🙏

12:14
Father in heaven we give you praise. We thank you, thank you so much … thank you for giving us your Son, and thank you for giving us hope, because in the face of our own deaths, in the face of our own suffering and pain, in the face of our own sin, we have no hope if we are on our own. But, Lord God, you have sent your son to bear our sin. You sent your son to transform our suffering, and you have sent your son to redeem the power of death, to conquer the power of death, and to transform it to redeem death so that, now, death is no longer the enemy, but death is our mother, and she gives birth to us in your presence. She brings us from this world into the next. She brings us from this life into eternal life with you; and that’s only possible because of your love, Father. Because of the love of your Son, Jesus Christ, and what he did for us. What he has done for us, and how he continues to with you send the Holy Spirit to be with us this day, and every day, so Father please send your Holy Spirit upon us right now, and transform in our hearts what needs to be transformed to bring to life what is dead, heal what is broken, and forgive please Lord God forgive what is needing forgiveness. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Jesus you suffered a horrific death for our sins and we do not deserve it. Blessed Virgin Mary mother of Jesus and our mother help us to appreciate what your son did for us and obey his commandments.
I heard tell that Jesus came into this world, by the same method He use when He walked into the locked room after His resurrection.
Dear Jesus, You were pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our eniquities, upon You was poured out the
Punishment that made us whole, and by Your wounds we are healed.
Thank You for all you suffered and the price You paid to save us from our sins ! Help us to love one another as You have loves us ! Amen. 🕯 ♥️
God bless you, Fr. Mike!

On day 161
Thank you so much Father Mike and everyone at BIAY.
amen
His overwhelming love, thank You Jesus. 🎉For France, Switzerland, Korea, Vietnam, Burma, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Yemen, Sudan, Egypt, Algeria, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Sri Lanka, Georgia, and especially Ukraine: My adorable Jesus, may our feet journey together, may our hands gather in unity, may our hearts beat in unison, may our souls be in harmony, may our thoughts be as one, may our ears listen to the silence together, may our glances profoundly penetrate each other, may our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. Amen ❤
Powerful day.
I really enjoyed your explanation of the crucifix. I will never look at it in the same way ever again.
A comment on Christ's reference to Psalm 22. Our Lord worked as a Rabbi in his time, and this was a time before the formalization of scripture as we know it. It likely wasn't known as "Psalm 22" at that time but just a part of scripture, and the way scripture was referenced in that time was to quote the first few lines of a given passage. Therefore it's logical to conclude that Christ, while he was at the brink of death, referenced the part of scripture that prophesized that very event. Truly amazing, Praise Be.
Overwhelmingly so difficult to listen what Jesus suffered pain and humiliation and taunting. Thank you for your love. You did all this for me . Thank you Jesus my heart has tears 🙏. Thank you Father Mike and God bless all ❤️🙏
Thank you, Father Mike, and thank you Father Joe Glab for introducing BIY to me. 🙏🙏🙏

Round Two
Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer:
(According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.)
The Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.
Praying for travelers conversion of all mankind
Amen Thank You Lord For All The Blessings Amen JMJ
Praying for you Father Mike and everyone on this journey Amen 🙏
Thank you Father Mike for sharing the bible with all of us. It is a true blessing to understand the bible. It helps to bring us closer to our God. Praying for Father Mike and anyone else who is in deed of prayers.
Could not help to shed tears during these last chapters of the Gospel of Mark. I could not read, having Father Mike's voice tell the crucifixion brought me to tears. So right Father Mike, these chapters are very sobering.
Thank you for updating...
Day 161, 1/23/22,
You read it in a sombre way. Thank from Canada
🙏🙏🙏
🙏🏻
Thank you Father Mike. Today we finished the Gospel of Mark, this was very moving to see how much God loves us ant to realized that our sins was that image but more so the love ❤️ that God had and still have for us, which in truth most time we don’t deserve because of the amount times that we turn our backs on him. Please God continue to hope in us because with the help of the HOLY Spirit, the Sacraments, the Church, and the continual reading of you Worlds we will get it together. Please let us pray for each other so that we can accomplish our final goal, which is eternal life with God. Praying for you you Father Mike, please pray for us that we my reach our goal.
They have numbered all my bones.

Say the 15 St Bridget prayer's and live the passion daily. Jesus received 5480 blow's and it's an approved prayer. It's changed my life, every time you sin it pierces your heart. When someone around you it pierces your heart. If I'm not in prayer or reading scripture, in reconciliation or at mass, I'm yearning to improve everyday. This prayer has changed my life to the point I'm dead the adore of flesh. I went from taking communion by the hand, to being moved by the Eucharist to the point I drop to my knees and receive Christ my the tongue. Please look it up and say this prayer and really pay attention and meditate on this prayer. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Mark. I did look up the 15 Prayers of St Bridget. Knowing about this prayer will have a powerful impact on me. Thank you again. 🙏
@@CosmoG.Spacely Awesome 👍, so happy to hear it. St. Bridget's daughter is St.Catherine of Sweden. She was able to convince the pope to return to Rome.

Gratefulness to our Lord for what He endured🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
1 Peter 2:24
Lord, You are our hope. Thank you for offering us the redeeming power of your love on the cross. Thank you for taking our place in bearing our sin so that our sin doesn’t have to end in death. You transform us so that we can live in heaven with you. We are so unworthy, but we recognize only you make us worthy. May we always remember the depths of your love for us and the cost of death when we look at the crucifix and may your Holy Spirit live in us today. 🙏🏻
🙏❤️
Thank you for sharing father God Bless
Wow...this is good one! ❤😥
Mike.
You know, it's terrifying, but I see in Pilate myself, namely my vanity. What must I do to be not a man who would do such things as him?
Thank you and God Bless you Father Mike. Praying for you and for all who follow you on this Journey....

Remove evil
Prayer before a Crucifix:
(Crucifix on the Sanctuary Wall at St. Mary of the Angels)
Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself on my knees in your sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and beseech you that you would impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, with a true repentance for my sins, and a firm desire for amendment, while with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate your five most precious wounds; having before my eyes that which David spoke in prophecy of you, O good Jesus: ‘They pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones’.
Where is day 160?
