Fr. Mike guides us through Jesus' warning of persecution to the people of Israel as we near the end of Mark's Gospel. He also touches on how Jesus' behavior in the Garden of Gethsemane should serve as an example to us, and explains why Judas' betrayal was so heartbreaking. Today's readings are Mark 13-14 and Psalm 68.

I just saw a fb post about a guy who was disowned by his own parents simply because he converted to Christianity. His christian name is Dave. Let us pray for his family, his parents, and those who have been persecuted by their own family just because they choose to follow Jesus.

There is always the argument that Catholics invest so much in beautiful Churches (except the awful 70’s) that could be spent upon the poor….but right here we see the woman who poured the costly hard upon Jesus… Jesus said the poor will always be with us… our responsibility to them will be til the end of times…but the example of the woman and the costly nard is an affirmation for creating beautiful Churches… Mother Angelica said it well and created beautiful space.

    Round Two
Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer:
(According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.)
    The Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.
God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

Sadly, we have such a divided family. My sister-in-law, who is on hospice and is dying, asked us to refrain from any communication that contains "God," "pray/prayers," etc.
Then there are those people who have no problem sending out unsolicited comments about politics and religion. It is not enough for them to not believe, but seem angry that I believe!
I have started asking them a question that appears to be effective: "What is it about MY faith that bothers you so much?"

Your family is not unique and you aren't alone. Jesus said this could happen.
If you are acting as though you are better than them because of your faith, this may make anyone upset. ✌

Just imagine Jesus as a man carrying the weight of his own crucifixion, and also knowing the tortuous deaths of those disciples. So happy that we don't know what is around the corner. The bigger picture of course we have some knowledge of.

When is the things I have noticed. When I go to mass. Sometimes the people live before the priest. And they're not supposed to do that. And when they do that, that reminds me. Judas also left before Jesus Christ.. And that's showing just respect leaving the room. Before jesus christ cause jesus christ it's a great high priest.

  • @telsah1
    @telsah1 Před rokem +8

Apparently Jesus can hear every voice that is spoken by everyone in the whole wide world and back again. He even knows what everyone of us is thinking. Even before we know we think it or say it, and this is how Jesus knew Peter would betray him and knew how Judas would betray him. Jesus knows every thought before we do and knows every action we will take before we do. & hears all conversations said by everyone in the entire world, said by all. He knows it all. Hears it all. He knows our thoughts. He knows how many hairs we have on our head. He is intensively aware of everything. It's all intensified for Jesus.

Until today, When praying there was the giving of thanks, requests, and declaration of accepting His holy will.
After this lesson, after the thanksgiving, there will be a new step- the truthful discourse regarding upsetting things and things that have brought joy.
Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane has a new, powerful meaning for me.
    Thank you, Bless you

Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

If you think about it Judas also was the first one to leave so we all need to leave after the priest because in my Parish they remind people remind people remind not to leave leave before the priest that's just showing respect not leaving before the priest does disrespect when you leave before the priest

Father in heaven, yes may you be blessed now and forewer. You do… Just like in Psalm 68 how you led your people from Mount Sinai to Mount Zion. You led people, your people from Mount Sinai to Mount Zion. You led people, your people from Mount Sinai wrapped in cloud and wrapped in fire to Mount Zion. The temple and your temple in your holy place where you dwell with your Holy Spirit where you called, you called to your people to worship you Lord God. You bring us today even, into worship of you. You bring us today to the place where you dwell. You bring us today where your presence abides as we even as we hear today from Mark’s Gospel about you’re giving us the Last Supper, you’re giving us Jesus’ body and blood, soul and divinity in the Last Supper. Lord God, you’ve called us to worship you at the Mass and we thank you for that gift. And we thank you fro the gift of being willing to endure agony for us, endure humiliation for us, to enter into your passion for us. We don’t deserve it and yet, your love led you to the cross. Your love for us and your love for the Father you through Gethsemane. And we can only thank you with our prayers, but also Lord God, with our everything, with our everything. May he be praised, in Jesus’ name we pray. †
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    • @berryberry2508
      @berryberry2508 Před 2 lety +4

Going to the Sacrament of Confession is the absolute right best thing to do, when struggling with habitual sin. Admitting to God, to your self, and another human being (a priest who represents Jesus) , the exact nature of your wrongs, gives you Gods' grace, which is the help needed to restore you to wholeness. God never gets tired of forgiving us , we grow tired of asking for His forgiveness. As long as you are trying to avoid the temptation of this habitual sin, and are willing to do whatever it takes to overcome it, you are not failing. Thank God for any improvement day by day. God is the Father of compassion and the God of all encouragement. Be strong and of good courage. Do everything you can and God will do the rest.
Put your faith and trust in God each day (the possible) and He will do for you what you cannot do for yourself ( the impossible) .
Put all your cares on Him as He cares.for you. God loves you. You are not alone. He will never leave you or forsake you. ⛪️

I remember reading either the account or a part of the account of Josephus. The siege of Jerusalem had the Jews starving and eating anything remotely akin to food, leather, dung, and so on. The soldiers when they came into a wealthy Jewish woman's house, they smell cooking and demand to see where the food is. She reveals her own child, cooked and partially eaten. Josephus suggests that this is what is meant when Jesus said weep not for me women of Jerusalem, weep for yourselves, for the days are coming when they will say blessed are the barren--he meant that blessed are those women who aren't tempted to cook and eat their own children.

Mark 14:14 - I always thought the last supper was the Passover supper because of this passage/verse. But I've been told Good Friday was the Passover and the Lord Jesus was the passover lamb. This passage confuses many of us.

The Psalms regularly include a word in italics "Selah" that is not read. If you (Fr. Mike) have explained what that word means and why it's there, I missed it. Could you explain that (again) please? Thank you!

Selah is translated as interlude-probably a musical interlude.

Mark 14:51: I believe this man is mentioned in another Gospel as well. The write (Mark today) goes out of his way to point this out. What exactly was the purpose of including this man in scripture?

Has the Church ever changed its stance on the body and blood of Christ?
Why do modern Christians and evangelicals think differently?

Which of the disciples ran away naked? I just heard someone say who the scholars think it was but I can’t remember who.

Just recently I heard it discussed again, it might have been Lazarus and he ran because the “powers that be” wanted to kill him too, to dispel the fact that Jesus had raised him from the dead.

The more I listen day to day the tougher it is to liken our Church and Saints' teachings of an all loving, caring God with these words. Seriously 1/2 way through the year is making me considering exploring other religions. Catholicism seems based on 2000 years of hypocrisy.

How to everything they did to Jesus Christ. They scurged them they crucified him. Everything the romans do to jesus was against the law because jesus was a jew.. They are not to scorch jesus, even though it helped us because jesus was a jew.
