He has uncles and other family members who have won Oscars for writing great movies (Citizen Kane) and also great uncles in his family have won awards as writers in television too including the TOS Star Trek.. Ben, probably much younger than his famous family members was the usual lazy dumb kid from a wealthy brilliant family known for their contributions to American entertainment, while he probably loafed around with no direction not surprisingly maybe being kicked out of the very best American or foreign schools. Probably some time around when Ben hit thirty, he realized he was essentially a loser in his family and usually when one is a useless loser from a well known talented family and has no talent at all, people like Ben develop their "friendly" personality to befriend wealthy or influential people by enthralling them that they know a real "Mankiewicz." Then Ben uses these people to obtain or gain access to whatever might give his false appearance that he is something special. Then Ben eventually uses someone like Robert Osborn and get his position on TCM. But it's obvious that Ben never spent any past moment in his earlier days learning how successful his family was as writers of entertainment, probably smoking doobies daily instead, and thus, his choice of the American history of movies for us to watch is so limited and obviously naive. Above is all a guess about Ben. His choices of old movies on TCM make people who really have some knowledge of old movies, like me, want to vomit when his choices are seen.....
