Regarding size you should have tried staying with the size that fit at the front but was too large at the sides and changed the cheekpads and possibly the upper headlining. This is why it is important to get the helmet fitted so you can swap them out and get the best fit.
Great points!
I have that exact helmet and I am very happy with it. But there is ONE thing that does annoy me. I cannot seem to keep the visor cracked open a little on the highway. I don't like completely sealing up the helmet - and do prefer to keep the visor open at 1-click. But this helmet just won't stay open - the wind forces the visor shut.
Ah that is annoying!
I will add , it is so easy to scratch it.
Interesting viewing. Just bought a Neotec 2 precisely because of the excellent fit so to me it isn’t strange. I’d have preferred a Schuberth but they didn’t fit as well. The moral of the story is to buy the helmet that fits you best first and ignor the brand. If it’s tight front to back then basically it’s not for you. Second thing is I’ve come across other riders who prefer double D ring and apparently you can return the helmet to Shoei and they can change the ratchet for a double D ring if thats what you prefer.
My experience exactly
very good but you should have also mentioned the forced com system that some (most) people might not want to use.
I've used shoei modular helmets since the MultiTec came out. The Neo Tech 1 I thought was a perfect helmet for me, but 8 years later I need a new lid, Now the NeoTec 2 is out I don"t like because of that space on the side that I can't put my "packtalk" onto is wasted. Some people call this progress, I think, they (shoei) should have left that space on the side of the helmet for people to decide what com system to use for them selves, I've heard the Sena is not so good as Cardo anyway.
That's my biggest gripe.
100% I agree, I should have added this. Users of the helmet should have the choice.
pack talk will fit without using the stick on mount.
The Sena controls are not easy to use with motorcycle gloves on and the battery life drops off to mean you almost need to charge midday if travelling long distance! Then try to get a replacement battery, that a whole other PITA!
Thanks for your review...very helpful and straight to the point. My head is so big that it’s amazing my neck supports it so getting a helmet to fit is a real problem. I ordered a Schuberth C4 over the web but it’s a disaster of a fit so I learned the following lesson: always go into the shop in person and try on many helmets in order to get a snug fit all round.....a challenge OK but worth it.
No problem 😊 glad it was helpful. I agree with you. Sometimes I go and try a load of helmets on in the shops and then order it online once I’ve made my choice. I don’t feel too good about it in the shop… but does save me a lot of money.
I currently have the original Shoei Neotec and before that the Shoei NXR (the lightest helmet I've ever owned) and in both cases my local motorcycle shop who are approved Shoei agents, after selecting my preference, insisted I wander around browsing their clothing department wearing it for approximately 30 minutes to check for comfort before actually buying. As Shoei agents they also swopped out the cheek pads on both helmets to more suitable comfortable sizes for free .... only done at time of purchase. This really is better than the 'sell it you, bye' attitude of most retailers.
Looking to pass the Neotec to my wife (who rarely rides) and get myself a Neotec 2 but miffed they committed to a Sena design instead of keeping it neutral or a clip system. Had the Cardo Sho-1 for years but recently upgraded to a Cardo Black and love the improvements, voice commands have been flawless, so the Cardo will (as others have shown) have to go on the Neotec 2.
I absolutely agree with you and am so happy someone saying exactly what I experienced, there are many companies are just want to seal items to customers by changing the design
make look fancy, but as long as any helmet pass standard regulations will work only weight matter I believe
I would add the absurdly bad visor connection mechanism. I can fully change an Arai or Schuberth visor in 20 seconds or less. The one on the Neotec II averages five minutes of cursing and wrestling. That alone is going to cause me to go with a different brand when it comes time to replace the Shoei.
So true, feel like I’m gonna break it every time I release (or attempt to release) the visor
Haha, looks complicated but you just push the trigger and click it off each side. Two second job! 😀
Are you calling my headshape strange, sire ?
Haha it’s most likely mine that is strange
Good points
the most annoying for me is that big head look I am still searching the web looking for high quality modular helmet with a good size
I agree, the big baby head look I call it. Not ideal
I like the helmet, comms and all. I just find it a little difficult locking the chin bar down. For me, it's a two handed job.
Interesting point thanks. I’ve had this with previous helmets, some loosen up, some didn’t
Ps regarding the fit once you have bought this brand-new where the helmet for about half an hour to an hour without riding
And you can go back to the shop and Mabel custom fit the Cheep pads and put thinner ones in for you
If you have used the helmet and Cheep pads for sometime, you can still change them out, but you will have to pay for them
Thinner Cheep pads less pressure on the melon. 😂
There’s definitely vote for me movie from a Shoei GT air 2
Because this helmet had extra cheek pads to stop the wind
Got a Neotec 2 fitted for under £300 now the Neotec 3 has been released.
Did you have a shoei before? I have a gt air 2 and it fits me like a glove. I hesitated on the GT air 2 because of the price, but I tested out 10 different brands...and the fit was just not there for my head. The shoei just fit perfectly.
Yes my everyday helmet is a Shoei NXR which I love. This helmet is my fiancé’s. After hearing her feed back, trying one on and riding with one briefly I think it’s not for me. I haven’t tried the GT air though…. Have heard nothing but good things!
@@FabMotorbikes I own GT Air for about 5 years now - the best sound isolation around. Good ventilation as well, D strap and sun visor included as well as pinlock. Pricey yes but soon as you go cheaper, aka Nolan Evo-4 which is a flip up - ventilation is not as good and noise isolation worsens.
Thanks for the feedback. Need a new helmet and will have a good look into the GT air. Cheers!
Very good review, but just to let you know you can send off your Shoei it takes about six weeks but they can change it over to a D ring
And you are definitely right, put under pressure leaving is the old-fashioned strongest fasten Just thought I’d let you know about Shoei can change this for you
I did not know this. Thank you!
@@FabMotorbikes so I picked up my Shoei Neotec 2 - Jaunt TC-5
And the first thing I did is sent it off to Shoei
To get them to change the ratchet to a d ring
Like I said, it will take about 5 to 6 weeks but definitely worth it
I’ve just got a horrible feeling when you’re rolling around on the ground God Forbid. You come off your bike and your chin presses against your chest if part of your skin presses that release and it opens just wouldn’t trust it.
Yea I totally understand. The old school simple message it best
mines is noisy as hell. any idea why
I’ve found it noisy also. I think despite the air vents being large and allowing the helmet to be airy it doesn’t help with the noise. Also I find the shape is no where near as aerodynamic and the smaller sportier models. This won’t help either. I will add however , than no helmet is truly quiet and earplugs are a must
Dont the can fit the helmet better with difrent inlays at Shoei for difrent heads ?
from what I know the different/thicker inlays help with fitting heads that maybe between full sizes. I'm not sure they offer vastly different inlays that will help with the shape
Have you tried a size small with XS cheek pads
This is a good idea. My partner has this helmet and is what she ended up doing
@@FabMotorbikes Out of interest, what's your head size?
For Shoei helmets it’s a small
@@FabMotorbikes and what’s your head measurement? I’m slap bang between small and medium, so I think I’m going to get a small with a thinner liner.
I can’t get glasses on because of the padding. Other helmets have a channel for the arms of glasses
Excellent point, wouldn’t have thought of this
Excellent point, wouldn’t have thought of this
I’m an XL is my head really that fat 😅
😂😂
not all of us can do aD ring due to medical reason
Excellent point and something I did not consider. Apologies. This is a great reason for the clip.
That micro ratchet is the reason i can’t buy shoei anymore, if your a chubby guy, it won’t close
The simple double D ring strap is way better
Just bought mine £365 you get what you pay for and if it doesn’t fit don’t buy it only a fool buys a helmet that doesn’t fit
Agreed
