  • This is my opinion of the SHOEI Neotec 2 helmet and my observations over a period of time using it. This video is quite long I guess but a helmet of this quality is expensive and the more research you can do before spending your money is valuable, hope you enjoy the review thanks for watching.

Great review. I really appreciate your discussion relating to wearing glasses in conjunction with the internal sun visor. I do indeed wear spectacles everyday & nobody else has mentioned this aspect of the neotec in their review. Top marks & thanks for the advice. A modular lid is something that I'm considering along with the full face shoei offerings.

Been thinking about getting myself a Shoei Neotec 2 helmet. I came across your review and now I'm positive I want one! You made a very good and thorough review of this helmet with both pros and cons. Like you I don't see many cons with this helmet. I currently have 2 Shoei helmets... an X1100 and a X1200. However when it's really hot out... it will be nice to be able to flip the front of your helmet up for some air, drink water, etc. Thank you for your honest review of the Neotec 2 helmet!!!

Thanks and glad you enjoyed it, I’ve had this helmet now for a couple of years almost and it’s still the best helmet for road use that I’ve owned. We actually bought a second one for my wife, the Bluetooth intercom system between helmets is fantastic and has a great battery life. My only complaint would be the price of replacement visors, but in saying that if you look after them they should last a fair while. You can also buy the I think they call it the photo matic visor which is clear at night and dark in the day for the Neo tech 2. Oh and the ratchet clip instead of D rings is fantastic. if only all helmets had it. cheers.

Great thanks very much for your kind words, I personally find it to be a great helmet not cheap but hey sometimes you have to pay for the right product I would suggest that if you’re looking at one try the sizes first to get an exact fit. I wore this helmet the other day for 7.5 hours on a cross country ride and it was still as comfortable when I took it off as when I put it on and I put this down to making sure I got exactly the right fit when I purchased it. Same can’t be said for some of my other helmets.ps (Love Arizona was there back in 79 on holiday from Aus 🇦🇺)

I appreciate all the small details you mentioned, like the Visor not interfering with you peripheral vision in the up position, wind protection from behind as well as the visor mechanism (up for down 😀) , comfortable with eye-ware, etc,…..I am in market for a new modular helmet and am considering Schuberth and BMW as well. Thanks Jim and glad you enjoyed the video, both the BMW & Schuberth are also great helmets, I think the tipping points for me ended up being the integrated intercom system and dark flip down sun visor. I get the best fit and comfort with Shoei. I bought the Shoei RF-1400 last summer for both my wife and I. I do have to say that this full-face is the best lid we have owned. However, I would like the additional functionality of a Modular so I will be trying one on this week at Cycle Gear. My only concern would be mounting my current SENA 30K. I am not in the market for a new comm device and not even sure I would go with SENA again since it’s been problematic for us.

Great review by the way. Just a point a point of reference, the Quad lock system will vibrate the wotnot out of your phone and they have had issues with this to the point where i believe they have added a vibration mount to it, but as a separate purchase, which is odd really, as they should have a standard system. I speak from experience, i had a KTM 690 and the Quad lock broke my camera and as the phone was brand new, despite Quad lock offering to cover the cost, i managed to get a new phone sorted through my phone network provider.

I have seen some reviews where people say don’t worry about them .Great to hear Quadlock were willing to back you in this situation, it says a lot about them..Cheers

As a satisfied Arai user for 20 odd years I was looking for a new helmet and wanted to try a flip-lid which Arai won't make. I was also a bit leery of non-SNELL approved lids. I tried a new Arai Signet but just didn't want the closed in feeling again. The salesman showed me the Neotec 2 that is being discounted as the Neotec 3 is out, and once I put it on I knew I was going to buy it. Trouble was that being discounted and end of the run, all they had was matte black, white and silver. Ive been wearing Schuberth ever since I bought my first BMW in 1979, I would have half a dozen in my closet if not for my last C3 Pro getting stolen. Now replacing, I did try on the Neo & saw C5 reviews. I choose another C3 Pro. I just dont see the value for the extra cost for Neo or C5. Neo interior fit was nice but material annoyed my skin. The Neo and the new 5 look much nicer, I loved my C3 Pro- fit, lightness, feel, finish and reliability. The predecessor to my Pro was a C3, got in an altercation with an auto, fist time since I started riding in 1965, I lost of course. I had the Neotec original, was a great helmet. It was time to replace and was really disappointed to find both the Neotec 2 and and Shoei's full face sport touring helmet GT Air have gone down this integration route with Sena.
Wife and I both had nearly new Cardo Packtalk Bold coms, a superior system in my opinion and now the only way to fit those units is to have them towards the rear of the helmet. I'm not throwing more cash at getting the Sena coms so just not buying the helmet. Shoei should stick to building great helmets and allow owners to easily fit coms of their choice.

Only other negative i will add is the detents on the visor. I like having my helmet cracked most of the time, there no position for this, first position is just too high and blows air into your eyes. I use a makeshift strap around the chinbar to keep it cracked open. Otherwise agree with everything you said, thanks for the great review. When I look through it my view just isn't really clear. I didn't event think about this before I bought it. So my question is this still worth it? C5 is priced only slightly more but has upgraded comms and helmet. Your thoughts?

Once my battery runs out of power the second system no longer runs through the bike it’s still got power but disconnects from the bike system. I do a lot of touring and find the lighter helmets (ie my AGV Carbon) tend to move around more with the wind giving me the blurs after a long days riding. For me the N2 suits well as I have other riders with the Senna intercom also, this allows us to all Bluetooth together. It’s also handy when riding two up to communicate with your passenger, Try to find someone you may know with one and give it try for an hour or so if possible. I don’t have any issues with the polarised glasses, good luck with your research.
