The Shoei Neotec II Helmet is the direct replacement for the Neotec which has established itself as the modular helmet benchmark. With the Neotec II Shoei refined the previous model while adding a few new features. The Neotec II comes prepped for the model specific Bluetooth communicator from Sena so we decided to do an install video to see if the end result meet our expectations.
Installing the Sena SRL was fairly straight forward, our only gripe was the instructions were not amazing. End of the day we feel the finished product was what we had hoped it would be. Once installed the Sena SRL looks like it came installed from the factory which is what we feel most riders will expect.
We did not use the unit as this is not new technology. Sena has a solid reputation and makes a good product that we find easy to set up and use.

Thank you! There’s no way I could have done this on my own. This is my first motorcycle helmet and I have never removed any parts of it before. It’s also my first time installing something like this. Whew. An hour and a lot of rewinding because I’m new at it but your video was great.
I am happy to hear this helped you get your install done. Thanks for watching! - Van
Thank you so much for guiding through the installation. Very good job 👍
Just finished my installation. Thanks for this incredibly helpful video!
Thanks for the great information. I love my new Neotec 2. Now just waiting for the com unit!! Need to save a few bucks 😩 before I pull the trigger on it. Thanks again. Great job installing it.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the Neotec 2! - Van
Great video Brian.
Thanks for watching! - Van
This video was excellent. It made the installation really easy. Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to go through the install, without which, I would have struggled I've no doubt.
Happy to hear this was helpful. - Van
Excellent instructions, especially the zoom-in makes it very easy to follow. Thanks a lot!

A brilliant video much appreciated just waiting for my Neotec 2 and Sena Comms to arrive ....
Thanks for watching and enjoy the new helmet. - Van
Thanks, this is the best installation video I've seen so far, very clear and concise, with good lighting making it very easy to see and follow along.
Happy to hear it was helpful and thank you for watching! - Van
Excellent guide, had mine installed in minutes, clear concise instructions for us all.thank you
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Excellent method!! I follow and result was great.
You’re the GOAT Brian Van. Life saver. Made it easy work for me.
Happy to help out! - Van
One of the best tutorials on this I’ve seen yet. Great video and instruction
Really useful guide to fitting the comms unit. Thanks
You are welcome, thanks for watching! - Van
Excellent detail in steps to remove plastic parts. I hate plastic snap together parts. Push or pull the wrong way and they easily break.. Good detail here to show how to get it apart without breaking it.
Happy to hear it was helpful and thank you for watching! - Van
Best video on the install
Thank you. Great video. Took all the mystery out of the picture instructions. Time for me to go install it now. :-)
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
Thanks very much from the uk. Was dreading this job a bit but all went well👍.

Your video saved my bacon installing the SLR into my new Neotec 2. Bless you my Son. (-:
No worries, happy to help out. - Van
very helpful video. It worked on the first try. thanks and greetings from switzerland, Thanks Rolf
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Perfect. It was way easier to do this using your video than following their pictures.
thx for the video. only because of this video i did buy the neotec 2 with SENA. If there would be no video like this, i would get a rage by installing this and use it without the SENA. Videos like this are gold! Thx very lot. The Quality of the SENA System is awesome, i just did a test and LOVE IT! Greets from Germany.
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Brian Van
So you have the Sena installed and using it. How does it sound? I've been very disappointed with the sound quality of my other Sena units and have change the speakers out with no improvement. No base hard to hear on Hyw and it's in a NeoTech
Great instruction Brian, installing on this cold MI winter day, took my time and got a near factory result...Thanks
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
@Gary Ibershoff: do you know if the boom mic can be disconnected from its connection to the speaker (e.g. if mic fails and needs replacing) or is it hardwired to the speaker? Thanks.
@@rotoehu9266 can be removed and replaced
Thanks for your time , i have a 3 day bike ride and i fitted it the night before cheers
You are welcome, happy to hear it was helpful! - Van
Gracias Muchachos! Big help for me to be able to get this system into my Neotech-2 lid. Good job 👍🏾
Happy to help and thanks for watching! - Van
Fantastic video. I opened the manual and felt like I'm either incompetent or the instructions assumed you had done this before.
Hey this video really helped me out! Enjoyed the video and thanks a lot
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Excellent overview
Very detailed and easy explanation! Thanks... now Im ready to instal my Sena system :)
No worries, happy to help. - Van
A really helpful video, thanks!
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
great video sir!! made the install 100 times easier
Thank you for watching! - Van
Top shelf no question about it and you get what you pay for with Shoei helmets a must have on road trips or everyday use. Do you remember the days when we used hand signals....technology has spoiled us
Funny when you think about it for sure. - Van
Thank you. The video was helpful. Now maybe you can make a video on how to remove the SRL for those of us that jumped the gun and installed it on a helmet that was the wrong fit ;)
Terrific job on the video. Thanks very much!
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
Thank god for this install I could not get it done from the picture book that came with it!
Their instructions are not the best. Happy this helped! - Van
Totally helpful - might have to replace my SRL 01 unit. I will try fault reset first. Unit battery time down to only 4 hours.
Sorry to hear you are having an issue with it. Hopefully the reset will sort it out for you. - Van
Very helpful and comprehensive - thank you
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Good video. I'm gonna get the Sena for my Neotec 2.
Just installed it & all working. Yeah the instructions that come with it are pretty poor!
Thanks for posting this. Like you I found the pictures-only installation guide just about useless. Even with your excellent video, I had to stop and backtrack the install three times before everything fit and went back together seamlessly. It may be “made specifically” for the Neotec II but it’s still a fiddly process!
Thanks, great help on the install
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Great installation instructions ! Thank you so much

Awesome video
I don't know about anyone else, but the wiring on the slide in side pieces were the only real issue with the install where I felt a little let down by the design. Everything else was absolutely instinctual.
The problem being that the side flanges on the cheek pads need to be able to reach down quite deeply to hook into the pins, and you just lay quite thin wires right across it's path that need to be tucked away, and there really isn't any good location for them.
The official Shoei install video simply warns to not have them in the way of the rear pin to allow reinstall of the cheek pad, but then rushes along and doesn't explain how.
I think you did a great job here of at least highlighting the need to push the wires in and down, but I can't help feeling they simply made these wires too long. I mean.. I installed on a large shell helmet. Is the XXL really in need of 3 or 4 more inches or wire on each side? I don't think so. I imagine this issue on a small size helmet must be really quite a pain in the butt.
If they'd designed some kind of channel or through hole on the cheek pad flange itself to allow the wires through or a place to run alongside rather than needing to be sandwiched right against the inside edge of the helmet while at the same time re-engaging those hooks.. It might have allowed for a simpler install.
It looks great when it's all together, but I found myself feeling disappointed in that aspect of the install alone, and because of the cost, feel this could be an area of wire failure down the road. It's a bit sloppy for such an expensive product.
100% AGREE, Holy crap did that piss me off, took me 2 hours of trying to work it in
Thanks for the detailed help. Appreciated!
You are welcome, thanks for watching! - Van
Excellent video !
Thank you for watching! - Van
Thank you so much! I'd never done anything like this before and I managed this on my first run through. Nice job on the walkthrough video.
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
Very helpful. Just got the Neotec II and decided to try to fit my 10R in it. Nope. There was no way to make the mic work. I could jerry rig the speakers but had to have a mic. Ordered this unit. Sheesh...a $1000 helmet with the Sena. And to think my first helmet was a $100 Bell.
Happy to help out! - Van
fantastic tutorial!
No worries thank you for watching! - Van
Great Video!! The instructions that came with the Sena are just pictures and not very good at detailing out a correct installation. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
No worries, you're welcome! - Van
Great step by step , thanks. I am wondering if we can mount a Senac 10C pro on this helmet (Neotec II) thanks
Excellent video. Thanks
Well done
You are welcome, happy to help out! - Van
Cool! This will eliminate much trail and error.
Thank you for watching! - Van
Thanks for these instructions. The quick install guide was absolutely USELESS. Half the steps were missing (like removal of the cheek pads) hence the reason I arrived here to find someone actually showing me how to do it IRL. Your video guide was really clear and now got everything installed and routed beautifully! I presume the ear pads that are removed can be left out since the new earphones have a sponge attached?
Yes, do not reinstall the ear pads you remove during the install. - Van
Very nice instruction video. One will run into problems when just relying onm the couple of pictures in the Sena manual, Sena and Shoei should put a link on it. Thank you very much!
You are welcome, happy to hear it was helpful. - Van
Excellent helmet and comms ..
Nicely done, thank you.
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Very helpful, thanks a lot!
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Fantastic video thank you 🙏🏼 . The instructions that came with it were crap and the video from Sena was too fast. Now I have it fitted perfectly
No worries, thanks for watching! - Van
Thsnk you very much, with your explanation very good
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
This video is the best!
Thank you for watching! - Van
Thanks for the great video install. It really helped.
Nice job very helpful do you do one for the set up as I am having issues a right pain in the check pads
Thanks mate.
Great detail. Thx
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
For anybody that doesn't want to deal with the SLR's cruddy audio quality, the Cardo Packtalk series are pretty dang easy to install on these helmets. Just put the interface a touch farther back then you normally would with the glue plate and everything else is cake.
The JBL speakers on the Cardo system blow these speakers away if you care about it.
Plus, the area where you would put the battery is now a nice little storage spot for whatever items you want to stash.
For sure you can still install most any of the aftermarket, non direct fit bluetooth devices in this helmet. - Van
Best video on youtube!!!
Appreciate that! - Van
Great Video I just bought this helmet today and I will now buy this communicator to replace my Card Q3 I tried to mount the Q3 on this helmet and it just does not work. again thanks for the great video
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Brian Van
Thanks, buddy! You made that far more straightforward for me to do than it would have been had I tried to follow those cockamamie cartoon intstructions. 👍🤟
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
thank you !
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Have you guys ever done a video on the Healtech obd tool? Would really like to see that.
Sorry we have not done that. Will look into getting one done in the future. - Van
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hi bud. How do u compare this helmet compared to the Schubert C4. I see with the c4 it's much easier as the Mic and speakers are built in and the sena unit just slots at the rear. Do u know how the sound compares to this unit ?
Thanks
Zunaid Kajee I’ve got the schuberth c4 and I think the sound should be the same as I believe they use the same speakers
2 new Neotec Helmets. 1 new SRL, waiting for 2nd (availability issues til July,). 2 new freewires for 2017 HD Ultra. Can’t get SRL mic working via srl to freewire to boom to iPhone. Gotta go directly from srl to iPhone. Also can't get SRL to Prism camera working either. Sena tech support acknowledges this is an open issue. (I would have not made these purchases had I known...)
I wonder why shoei went this way with Sena and not the same way as schuberth c4?
The Sena for the schuberth may not be as technical as the one for the shoei but I love the integration and to be able to swap battery’s out is a plus, having no microphone stuck in my mouth is also nice.
Ian Robbins Schubert c4
Very helpful video..If you have the Neotec 1 (which i do) Sena make the 10U which is similar.
Thank you for watching and thanks for sharing the info. - Brian Van
And, apparently, the SRL is NOT compatible with the Neotec 1. I just unwrapped both to find --- they don't fit.
So where does the charger plug in? How do you update firmware? Does the microphone grab my glasses? And yes, I would have liked to have seen you pair this with a GPS and a phone.
Dan, we are a very focused sportbike shop so I have not ridden with this helmet or used the communicator. I did this video because I felt the instructions with this Sena were not good enough. - Van
Hi Super Video ... Would like to connect the SRL with an other helmet Nolan which has B5 N-com... It do not get that working ... do someone have an idea how ?
Thank you
May I ask what motorcycle holder ring that is you're using?
I can't find it for sale anywhere.
Thanks!
I have a couple service rings that have been given to me over the years from different brands. Not sure any of them actually sell them. If you dont have one and need to work on the helmet a bath towel folded up works pretty well. - Van
Try looking on Amazon.
I bought several at a motorcycle show in Washington, D.C. I think they just call them Helmet Donuts.
They're rather ludicrously over priced and tend to be round rather than oval, so they don't fit well.. A gel neck cushion works really well, and is exactly the right dimensions, and a third of the cost. Sometimes less.
Is the sena compatible with other sena ,,, ie sena smh 10 r
Great video! What is the difference between this SRL and the new SRL 2? I understand the SRL 2 fits both the GT Air 2 and the Neotec 2 (newly produced?). Just bought a new Neotec 2 & SRL, and heard the speakers on the SRL is not-so-good. A guy behind me in the lineup suggested to replace the speakers with Bose ones...but if the new one has better speakers I would return the SRL to get the SRL 2.
The speakers looked the same to me, the difference is the kit comes with both mic options. - Van
It's not necessary to detach Center pad bonnet. I'm installing right now according to Sena instruction
How do you answer the phone on that thing, i just don't see the bluetooth module
All we did here was install the unit to help riders get that done. For more on features you can reach out to Sena support direct. - Van
Hi!does sena srl for neotec 2 fits on shoei gt air 2?thanks!
Yes it will fit the GT Air 2 or the Neotec 2. - Van
Sportbike Track Gear thanks a lot!!
Thanks for the excellent instructions! I gotta say it was a little like watching soft porn the way you “teased” those wires in so gently and got the module to “dip in real easy” 😆😆😆
That's just wrong
Does it have to be with this helmet it can it be with any shoei helmet
The communicator is only compatible with the Shoei Neotec II Helmet.
This fucking unit had me soaked in sweat swearing up and down for 2 hours before I got it to fit, now here's hoping I didn't fuck up any of the tiny ass wires
After seeing a Video at the Shoei Factory and how Shoeis are hand made with a lot of quality control .. I think this wll be my next Helmet..
Too bad I already chose a Cardo Pak Talk slim.. As cardo has 100% Water proof resistance stands behind their Warranty better and is said to have better customer support.
So it's all installed .. I know nothing about the available controls on this Sena.. Not mentioned in this "Install" Video .. I assume you simply plug your USB Charger cable into that back unit Obviously while still installed on the Helmet..
I suppose I will have serious issues trying to install my already paid for Pak Talk Slim Blue Tooth on this Helmet.. Then again switching from one Helmet to the other would be a time consuming hassle every time..
Also I don't even know if this Sena works with Voice commands or not???
This video was only ever intended to showcase what it takes to install the unit and get a good clean result. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear I was going to visit your store early December via motorcycle.. Then it got cold and started snowing .. I had just added heated Grips . hand guards and the wiring for a heated vest..
Finally rode my snowmobile for the first time in several years last night.
I just got a new CKX Mission Snowmobile Helmet with heated visor ..and breath duct venturis to vent your breath out the back ..
It's a Cheap made in China Helmet with great features.. No Comparison to a Shoei.
It is a full face but the shield is huge and flips out of the way .. You could eat a candy bar with the shield up ..
I want to try it on the street in cold weather.. The Shoei you have to keep your face shield cracked open ..
So I won't need a blowtorch and sledgehammer?
Nope, just follow this. - Van
Is not that some people don't read. It's that some folks don't know on how to write or explain instructions.
That's fair, doing install videos is not easy and I would imagine writing a technical document is even more challenging. - Van
Sportbike Track Gear
True 100% indeed.
Hardly. Pictured/illustrated instructions without text eliminates the need to provide text in 12 different languages. Not everyone speaks/reads English.
Unbelievable.
Thanks for watching! - Van
Does this communicator sound good?
Sorry, I have not used this myself, we just decided to shoot an install video because we felt the instructions were a little weak. - Van
thanks for your feedback
Mine has these weird left and right pieces that look like antennas. nothing is covered in the manual or in tutorial videos. Sena needs to step up their game
