Apollo 13 Views of the Moon in 4K

  • This video uses data gathered from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft to recreate some of the stunning views of the Moon that the Apollo 13 astronauts saw on their perilous journey around the farside in 1970. These visualizations, in 4K resolution, depict many different views of the lunar surface, starting with earthset and sunrise and concluding with the time Apollo 13 reestablished radio contact with Mission Control. Also depicted is the path of the free return trajectory around the Moon, and a continuous view of the Moon throughout that path. All views have been sped up for timing purposes - they are not shown in "real-time."

To be fair, "recreate" could mean many things. It could be 100% CGI or it could be some interpolation using original images.
It's really beautiful and Apollo 13 went there, that's good enough for me anyway.

@@willylaan2451 obviously you don't know your science. You do know the Apollo astronauts left 3 laser ranging experiments on the Moon...Apollo 11, 12 & 15 left 3 reflecting mirrors on the Moon. From the USA and Germany facilities they bounce laser beams to those locations and measure how long it takes the light to come back to Earth! what we discovered calculating the mathematics is the Moon is moving away from the Earth 3.8 cm a year. Remember it was a space race between the Americans and Russians to land a man on the Moon....if it was faked the Russians would have had the greatest pleasure letting the world know this did not happen as the Russians was watching the Americans like a hawk. The Americans did beat the Russians...Russia was so embarrassed they never told the russian people until 1979 that the americans landed on the Moon 👌

I think this has been sped up much too high. The speed is so high that one can't imagine at all how the astronauts experienced it looking out the window. This high speed leaves no time for the viewer to get a sense of reality of the situation. Making this video twice as long (5 min) would be much better.
