    I do a review of Scenic Express Super Leaf terrain foliage. I discuss it's texture and suggest some possible uses for it for wargame terrain. Some uses includes as tree and bush accents or scatter flock. You can find it at the Scenic Express site:

    I really liked the 2nd color on the tree. Makes it look so much more realistic with the dead leaf look.

      I think the texture of the super leaf really makes dead leaves and highlighting a great option.

    I just found your channel - this was the first one I watched. Good luck with technical issues down the road, but it didnt deter me one bit. I plan on watching more!
    I just bought 6 colors of this Super Leaf, in pinks and purples and whites to make some fun small-scale flowing cherry trees, plum trees, and what not. I'm at a loss of how to make trees using this like I would with clump foliage, but this was a good start!

      Gavin McClements Welcome to the crazy terrain train. ;)
      I think a good way to work with it is to use another material as the basic structure - clump foliage, fibers, etc. and then sprinkle or coat with the Super Turf. Of course it has lots of uses as accents for flocking, etc. And it would also be possible to wet it with diluted PVA and make your own clumps with it. Hmm... Why haven't I done that myself??? I might try that out some day. :)

      I was thinking along similar lines, using superglue to create my own clumps, etc. I am actually in the middle of an HO-scale diorama (much bigger than my usual 6mm scale!) and I am using medical gauze that I have distressed as an underlayer for the SuperLeaf. The gauze goes on tonight and hopefully by next week I'll have something to show of it!
      I've watched many more of your videos and I really enjoy them!

      @Terranscapes  Před 9 lety

      Gavin McClements I think the gauze is a nice idea. I hope it works well. :)

      I think I am nailing it all down now. The next video I put up should have all the bells and whistles worked out. Well, most of them anyway. :)

      When they make me laugh, I include them. I suspect there will be many more. :)

    When you start recording, test the live audio with headphones before continuing. Saves a whole bunch of time

    Making trees with these and SuperTrees (also a Scenic Express product) make fantastic trees, though their durability might not be the best, but it do make the best looking trees.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      I agree, and I have done some playing around with them to improve their durability. At some point in the future, I will chat about it more. :)

    For the close up shots, maybe try doing some macro still shots with your camera if your editing software will allow you to add pictures in.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      I can do that, but I think I have come up with a better way. I'll be using it in the upcoming videos.

    that purple, maybe an alien tree for a scifi game? just not sure how you would replace the green on the started foliage

      Oh, I could see that for alien veg. Nice idea. :)

    How do you think it would look as fallen leaf coverage around bare trees? I am not sure if I am making any sense here. But when I saw it I immediately started thinking of bare tree armatures and this flocking scattered about the base as dead leafs.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      I think that is a great idea. Much more feasible than trying to get birch seeds or other cut leaves for that effect. And it will match the surrounding textures better.

  • @TheDMGinfo
    @TheDMGinfo Před 10 lety

    You should consider shooting cutaways to cover mistakes rather than reshooting everything. Shoot a whole bunch of subject relevant shots of the products, of the uses etc in close up. Then do your talk to the camera. If you make a mistake you can bridge the clips with a cutaway shot. No need to reshoot everything.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      It's not really the focus issues that cause me to reshoot, thou those are part of the problem. It's when the whole shoot is blown out for sound. And then there are the times where my head shot is out of focus. For some reason, when I lock the focus for the first shoot, and then do the second after shutting off the camera, it doesn't retain the focus. So... either the talking is unfocused, or the whole sound is blown out, but if it just one section, then re-shooting that alone is an option. I will give the headphone idea a test however.
      **pause while test it**
      Well, I can't really discern when I am clipping through the headphones. :( At super high end clipping it does sound a little distorted, but no where near as bad as when I transfer the file and listen to it in audacity. Perhaps with a better recorder. I will be upgrading to a Zoom H1 which I think will handle my needs much, much better.

    • @TheDMGinfo
      @TheDMGinfo Před 10 lety +1

      I use a life size skeleton model sitting in my chair to set the focus, otherwise I focus on the background and become unfocused, you may be experiencing the same problem. "Bonesy" has appeared in a few videos, but I bought him during halloween for the main purpose of setting focus :).
      Also sometimes there are two AF switches. One on the camera and one on the lens. Check that they are both set to manual

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      TheDMGinfo
      I actually just watched a video on precise manual focusing. You add a textured object at the focus point, (I use a screw) and then you digitally zoom in and adjust to get the texture in focus. It's fairly quick and very accurate. I just need to do it every time I turn the camera back on since it seems to drift off on the 're-powering'. **shrug**

    • @TheDMGinfo
      @TheDMGinfo Před 10 lety

      It depends on the camera, Not all cameras digital zoom that way :) Thankfully yours does.

  • @TheDMGinfo
    @TheDMGinfo Před 10 lety

    Point the mic down away from your head, you can place it closer

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      Not a bad idea. I'll do a couple of sample recordings and see how that sounds. That assumes I have a good battery, AND I remember to turn on the mic. :) Yet another reason for some re-shoots.

    • @TheDMGinfo
      @TheDMGinfo Před 10 lety

      Hence the headphone check. Also your mic transmitter and receiver should have a light on them to show a connection, always check those lights

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 10 lety

      TheDMGinfo
      Ooooh. A headphone check. That sounds worth investigating. Thanks for that one. The microphone doesn't have any indicator lighting, and I wasn't always checking the camera when I was jacking in directly. Going into the recorder however, it does show me a 'rough' approximation of the volume and at least that it is on. :)

    • @TheDMGinfo
      @TheDMGinfo Před 10 lety

      You can also see if the camera will put out a volume indicator to the LCD and clap your hands and see if the indicator moves

      It does have a sound meter, but I have to drill down in the menus to see it. I may be able to display it on the recording screen but it is 6'+ away from me, and I can barely see myself in it when I am recording. :( This was one of my goals with a monitor - to see the levels live as I record. But, after my most recent video (the sound was pretty good), I'm putting away tweaking the sound for now. I've taken on too much and spent too much time fiddling. ;) But... I'll be revisiting it down the road for sure.

    You don't know what to use the plum color for? Looks like exactly the right color for red beech trees to me.
    Don't know how common those are where you live, but here in the Netherlands they can often be found in parks, graveyards, estates and those kind of places. They also come in the form of hedges.
