Absolutely love your videos and thank you for sharing all your knowledge I learned so much and I look forward to every new video you put up Love your club it looks like you got a good group of guys . I love vintage boats and love vintage motor unfortunately there’s really no good groups like yours near me I keep plugging along as a one-man band lol
I had a 1957 35 Mercury 4 cylinder electric start ,2 carbs .It was white and ran great. My dad said they were more like 50 h.p. I put it on my 8 ft. Hydro and it went pretty good. I could only hood it full throttle for o few seconds. Great motors built with pride.
I am putting a 1980 50 HP Merc 4 on my 1960 14ft Whitehouse Tampican. The boat is rated for a 40HP but a 1960 vintage so the marina told me I can put up to a modern 60 with a good transom. Which is rebuilt and thicker than the original. Should be a fun boat
In 1960 most motors were rated at the powerhead today at the prop so today they are actually more powerfull the 1980 50 hp merc ended up rated at 40 hp
@@pinetreeboatingclub Really. Someone told me the 4 cylinder mercs are a sought after motor. The 3 cylinder aren't as fast. Right now I have a 1964 28hp Evinrude Speeditwin on the boat
Love them old Mercs ( and new ones ). I have a well cared for Mark 20 that I want to go to a good home that will take care of it as I did.

I was handed down this same engine. It needs some love. Can you convert pull start to electric?

Do you have a recommendation on fuel mix for the Mark 30?
The old "Mark Series" ran a 20:1 ratio. Use a two stroke oil like Mercury Quicksilver, not automotive engine oil for best performance & longevity.
Mercury 2strok oil
You need to remove those snap bolts on your steering. Whether zinc or brass, they are cast and they will snap on you. Use real turnbuckle instead.
they are stainless with a high strength rating thanks for the comment
