A guys traveled all the way to CT to try revive this 1955 Chevrolet Belair 2 door hardtop, that's been sitting in a garage for 37 years. This car is very rare - and one of only a few hundred completely assembled in Mexico! Let's see if we can get it back on the road!

Literally the ONLY channel on YT that I would happily sit here and watch a 2 and half hour video.
Appreciate that

Same here.
I know its probably a pain in Derrick's butt, but the longer the better!
I know right ? It's addicting
Derek working under a sign that reads “Fix it right the first time” makes me giggle a little.
I saw that too, and had to laugh to myself
@@user-eo4id7up2t Ditto. And, "This guy's organizededed."
Measure once, cuss twice.
Exactly what I had been chuckling to myself too 👍
I’m glad I’m not the only one 🤣
This whole thing was just great. Being a Veteran it was a great thing you did donating to that man's family. Made me even more proud of you Derek. You Are a good man!!
How can a US youtube channel even keep someone from the UK hooked for 2 1/2 hours, truly amazing, thankyou for being you
Derek I don’t have to tell you that you’re a great mechanic. We already know that. But I will say that you’re a great person inside and out. Compassionate and kind hearted. We appreciate all that you do and I really enjoy your content. Happy 4th !!!!
I appreciate that! Happy 4th!
@@ViceGripGarage I remember seeing a blacked out 1960’s Lincoln continental with suicide doors parked someplace when I was a little lad. Ever since then I’ve always dreamed of owning one !!! Maybe someday !
you have a really great approach with humor and humility as well as fine practical wisdom. Reminds me of Will Roger's who's films are on YOU Tube. He approached politics with humor but in this age I would steer clear of that even with the best rack and pinion.
Well I'll be dipped @@ViceGripGarage
Had a long and hot day outside getting lots of “to-do’s” done and this is exactly what a guy needed! You’re the best Derek!
Thanks for tunin in!

My thoughts exactly😂😂
Derek, you are such a class act guy. This is by far THE Best CZcams channel hands down. It's clean, I can watch it with my kids, it brightens my day, gives me some derek-isms to use, and gives me hope there's more people out there like you and your family. God bless you and your family, and many successes.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoy
I agree.
I love how Derek always says "WE" through all his videos. Keeps the love in the community. Love you all!
Derek, you're a special kinda guy to do what you do. Amazing
Thanks so much
What an honor to have Derek get this rare 55 rolling, running, and stopping again. Every minute of this video had me smiling until the end. I live in New Hampshire and know of the tragic death of Trooper Aaron Pelletier. Brian's choice of charity is perfect, and my heart breaks for his parents, wife Dominique, and his two sons Troy and Zachary.
😊who ever did that interior did a fantastic job. I'm impressed.
Same here. Hello from NH.
The ending makes a guy blink a bit more. When you think you’ve got it bad, you find out it’s really nothing compared to others.
This is the most enjoyable you tube show. Derek doesn't condemn you on car fixes. Love thus guy.
This was the BEST SHOW EVER!!! This was in my home town of Meriden, CT. It was nice to have Derek experience a familiar place for me. I live in AZ now and he made me miss it. Thank you Derek and I hope you enjoyed Castle Craig... Spent lots of time up there in my youth!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Dave Waller
party a whole bunch at Meriden Tower 1975-79 till the road got closed off. good job VGG
Great car, Brian is a lucky man to have Derek come out and get it back on the road. Also, a donation to a family who lost their dad while serving the public. My heart goes out to this officer's family.
That was awesome...!!!
Who’s Brian? Did we even see the rich dude?
@@big_red_machine3547no it was mentioned early on in the video that he was camera shy and later something about his line of work making it not a great idea to be on camera. Makes a guy wonder what his job was. The charitable donation at the end made a fellar wonder if he was in law enforcement 🤷♂️ Brian is a lucky man.
@@mike5162 I think that he was a very wealthy important fella nevertheless. I like seeing young people just starting out win things like this, but it’s the luck of the draw I suppose
@@big_red_machine3547 Rich dude? LOL assume much? If he was as rich as you are trying to make him out to be, this old 55 wouldnt have been stuffed in storage for the past 30 plus years, he would have paid to have it fixed. I assume he is some sort of Law enforcement , maybe not just an officer but maybe someone a little higher up or under cover even.
Derek is a class act. OK, not news, but always deserved.
2 years and nearly 1 million subscribers later, the wait was worth it. Great content as always, I love seeing that '55 back on the road where it belongs.
Honestly, there are times when I feel bad watching these videos. I'm sitting outside by the pool enjoying some cold snacks watching Derek work.
I was a otr diesel mechanic for a very long time. I had a neighbor down the road from me that wanted to DIY on his cars. I would get calls all hours of the evening asking me to come help with everything from brakes to carburetor problems. It was always interesting and fun. Plus, I got fed.
I finally realized why I like these revival shows so much. It reminds me of when I was young and my dad would help me keep my clunkers running. You know your dad loves you when he's helping you get your car running and it's -15 degrees out with your eyelids freezing up.
My late father saved his know it all son's right thumb to a clutch housing. Don't know how he heard me, but he sure did.
@@klegibhow did you manage to do that?
@@IntelliPocalypse Back when there was no internet, I was young, stupid, and did not respect the weight of it. I learned quickly though.
@@klegib oh I see. Yeah definitely a learning experience. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been pinched, got my hand caught, banged my head, and I do have the internet. Although, I’m not even a year into technician work yet. I did change oil for a year though
I used to read all the Foxfire books about American forgotten and obsolete technology. I realized the other day that I'm basically watching a Foxfire book starring Derek!
Derek, thanks for helping out Brian. Tell him I like his shop. I spent the whole time looking at his shelves to see what cool stuff he has.
Am I the only one that starts smiling when that engine comes to life for the first time?
nope :) you knew the answer :P
Nope. I smile EVERY time he gets a dormant engine running.
Brian is either a trooper, or undercover type. God Bless Brian for his service. Derek, you are a saint, in oily cloths.
I was thinking undercover cop maybe.
I could be wrong but I thought Derek called him Dr Brian in part of the episode
woot, woot being with Derek on a Friday night is much better than hitting the club on a Friday night. Period!
Scew clubs. VGG is MY club.
If either of us tried to "hit the club" we'd probably get turned away.
"Woot, woot" and "Hit the club"...?! What language is that...?! And why are you talking about golf...?! Or is there another kind of club...?!?
You need new sparkalators...
You and Brian are wonderful people. The car is fantastic, glad to see another old car back on the road. I'm sure the family of our fallen service member will be grateful.
This right here is the best of humanity. Thank you so much.
Two hours and 34 minutes later and a guy likes Derek a little more after this episode. He donated money to a charity, and that was really cool.
Derek a feller knocked out another awesome video. My 91 yr old Gma watch it with me and she said she had a new favorite show to watch. She loves the Derek isms she laughed constantly. Ty for making her smile
So THAT'S who's laughing at all the tired, unfunny, annoying "derek-isms"! I knew there must be someone finding all of his "jokes" funny!
Cherish every moment with grandma, while you still can
Man, I wish there was a way to give a guy more than one "thumbs up" because this video deserves many. Derek, you are a class act and what you did here is incredible.
you can become a "member" of this channel, I believe
My uncle bought the same car paint and all brand new the year I was born. I still remember riding in it when I was 4. What a great memory. Thank you!
This is another reason why VGG will always be one of my favorite channels and wish you and your family continued success. Thanks Brian for the great car and worthy charity. Thanks Lou for the use of the shop, nice shop.
Love Derek’s narrative sense of humor, sure brings a twinkle to the eye of the true American dream! Derek for President 2024!!!
America needs VGG’d !!! Thank you vice Grip Garage my favorite family flick
I wish Derek got a dollar every time someone said this.
Now that's a candidate worth voting for
Unfortunately you have to choose between a demented old guy and a good president.
The Rush album has taken this revival to another level.

7th title on that album is Before and After. Very fitting for Derek, the Working Man!! haha
Derek brother, Vice Grip Garage just continues to get better! It makes a fella happy seeing you invest so much time into people and helping them bring their rigs back to life and on the road. Always looking forward to whats next!
Derek, took me a while to watch this due to my OWN schedule. Fabulous build as always. But... Nearly in tears as you finish up with the owner of the car, and his choice of charity. You are an excellent person that I hope to meet some random day.
As a long time fan, I always appreciate your support for service men and women.
But the way you earnestly showed such respect to “Brian ;)” while not including him in the video,
still I felt he was such a big part of this rescue. We could all see your gratitude for being able to help.
That my friend was something special.
In 1957 my dad and mom had a 55 Chevy that was fast. I was brought home from the hospital in their 55 belair. Thanks for showing this repair.
Those old cars give me chills , I love just even touching one
All I can say is awesome!!! I am sure Jessica will be fine of the rounding situation! Derek you are definitely a class act! Thanks so much for all that you do!
This is why I watch Derek. What a great dude I hope to meet him someday. Kinda wish I met him before he got real big. I’ve have a subscription for 4 years I think.

Derek one hell of a video. Beautiful job. Brings me right back to my teenage years. I had a 55 Ford Fairlane with a 272 cu in V8 with dual glass packs with overdrive and 3 speed on the column. Only down side is it was 6 volt 56 went to 12 volt. Great car to take to the Drive Inn movies back then. Plenty of room. Thanks for sharing another great Friday movie night. 👍🇺🇸. Artie
Derek, you're like a likable comedian that became a master mechanic on the weekends to pass the time. You're such a cool soul, bro. Big fan from Atlanta, GA.
For me, your best video thus far. The gift to Brian of your funds, your time, and the donation to the Troopers family made this my number one. You are truly a great human being, and your dedication and support to the car community is without comparison. Thanks Derrick for all you do! 😎🇺🇸
One of the most rewarding and interesting episodes yet. Glad the radiator fit, glad the brakes came around with minimal aggravation, or so it would appear. Great way to spend a Friday evening, was really glad to see an episode appear and it turned out to be one of the best. That's a tough call because they're all good.
Good on ya for the donation, lots of good cops out there and it's heartbreaking to hear about the loss of one. May God find him and keep him close.
The same goes for you and your family, Derek. You may not know it but it's not just about cars. It's about people and sharing that unique part of America.
Cheers!
Back in the 70's my brother was 16 working at a gas station...A guy came in with a 57 Chevy, it stalled and would not start. He sold it to my brother for 5 bucks and my brother pushed it 5 miles home to work on it!! But of course the car is long gone now.
The idea of you using your powers to get other folks projects running and riding sounds like an EXCELLENT addition to the channel.

That sign above the garage door is just the right one for a VGG video.
Those wheels are worth every dollar. I didn´t know I needed a 55 on Cragars but well, now I know.🤣
Smells like a ferris wheel gearbox. That's poetry right there. I've never smelled one, but I know exactly how it would smell.
Very gratifying when the old girl cranks and runs on her own after 30 years 😊
This reminds of my teenage years when me and my friend worked on his 55 Chevy. His father bought it for him for his 16th birthday. He bought 6 months before his birthday. He said, you need get it running if you want to drive it. We worked our butts off to get running in time for his birthday. Great times.
2:08:38 Didja know that if you lose one of those keepers and have no way to get another one right now, you can make one out of a penny? Put the penny on top of some rotten wood, bang a regular screwdriver into it kind of at an angle until you get a slot cut through, then bang the screwdriver straight down to make a depression at 90 degrees from the slot, to hold the pin from twisting and coming out.
I did that one time, then drove from Dallas to Duluth with it. My lucky penny.
Wow! Those headlights and taillights coming on were just beautiful! The design/lines of those old cars...so much prettier than what we see on today's cars.
When I saw those head lights come on I thought Christine. While I was trying to post that he mentioned Christine.
Is there any 'design' in modern vehicles...?! They're all the same...!!!
Derek ... you're good people doing good things for good people. And that's as good as good gets.
To echo a previous commenter’s sentiments…watched the whole thing through like it was only 10 mins. Could get the sense you were time-sensitive but your editing still showed all the detail and especially the problem solving steps that entertain those of us who’ve seen this drill literally hundreds of times from you by now. One of my favorite episodes from my favorite internet car guy. Thanks for continuing to do what you do and bringing us all the joy that you do!
My dad had a 1957 210 BelAir with a 283 4 speed manual when he was a teenager and that's how him and my mom met, drag racing each other, but my mom was driving my grandma's Ford station wagon with a big block. They were neck and neck coming up Fallston Hill and when it came together into one lane my mom shoved my dad up into the Patterson Heights Golf Course in Beaver Falls, PA...😂😂😂 My mom took off, but she met up with my dad again because he was a bass player in a local soul band. He said hi to her while walking off stage and the rest is history...that was 1968 and I wasn't born until 1983, but I have two older sisters and I'm the only son.
That’s a really neat story!
Loved this episode! My dad had a red and white 55 with Cragars, also had louvres in the hood and trunk lid. Bryan’s 55 has the same driver door squeak love that sound really takes me back to car show days with my dad❤️ thanks Derek!
P.s. to everyone complaining about Bryan not being on camera get over it! If I had to take an educated guess he is probably a service member, probably a police officer of some sort and wants to remain private.
I thought the same thing about Brian's likely job. If so, many thanks as always for his service and awesome to see the rare '55 Bel Air got back on the road!
Well done on saving this baby! She’s a classic!! Good on you for donating to charity .

Just love this! It's pretty crazy he bought that at 19 and just parked it all this time. That's a fantastic 55 and thanks to your awesome generosity, it's FINALLY drivable again and perfect for bringing the rest of the way around! Really hope he keeps going with it - a future update would be awesome!
My uncle purchased a 1956 BelAir 2-door in 1956. He drove it until racking up 320k miles (going through three 6-cylinder engines in the process - no oil filter), and then gave it to my cousin to use as a high school car in 1965. My cousin's first order of business to was to swap out the straight 6 for a 283 corvette motor, ran that for a while and then around 1972, installed a 427 big block and Muncie 4-speed! It was his daily driver until he bought a '72 Corvette in 1974 that took over daily duties.
The '56 has sat off and on over the years but he STILL occasionally drives that '56 to this day, with that same 427 ... at 75 years old! (still owns the Vette as well) To make the story even sweeter, in addition to being a total gear head, my cousin was also a bit of a camera buff so there are plenty of pictures documenting the entire life-long process!
Great way to spend the day. Digging that Double Nickle, great to see it cruising again
Saving this as a perfect lesson on how to revive any car. Derek really made one of the best "how to" videos ever if you have an old car you want to get back on the road.
I once dropped a wheel bearing seal and that bugger literally rolled 127 feet away hiding itself behind a garden hose, of course it was the only seal of it's kind in three counties. I looked for 4 hours before a kid found it. I bought that kid the biggest fountain drink in town.
Derek, I've got to say, after a long day like today fighting a simple brake job in the rain (I suppose you're not alone in not having no brakes), there's nothing better than putting the ole earth pounders up and watching any one of your videos. Whether it's here on the ole CZcamss or Roadworthy Rescues, a feller's content can make any day better.
Honestly this is got to be one of your best revivals if not the best one ! I really enjoyed this one and it’s a dream car of mine and best part of all is the donation went to a fallen Vet ! Thank you for making this ❤
Stupendous, outstanding, awesome, fantastic...with three exclamation marks!!! Derek, Jessica, little humans...you all ROCK!
55's and 65's are my favorite flavors for the Belair! I owned a 65 back in around 85-86 and got to drive a 55 a couple of times. This was the best 2 1/2 of my day! Great episode!
The first classic car I rode in was a 57 Belair. One of my customer's had one in his shed, and we started a conversation over it. Mid conversation he goes, hey you want to take a ride with me? I put my equipment down so fast. Something I won't forget as it happened the day before my wedding.
Awesome revival! I understand some people are camera shy, but myself, I'd be right there wrenching with Derrick and soaking up any knowledge I didn't already know! Plus he always seems like he'd be fun to be around/work with
The craiger's look great. White letters out for us old school guys. I just gotta say that I love what you do Derek. You are all about community and family. Thank you for all you do.
Who would not want to watch V G G on a Friday night and have a 55 Chevy Belar to mess with ? Gotta love it !
Derek this was absolute car salvation gold! Really love the effort to track down the previous owner and getting his info on the car. Fantastic job!
Absolutely love these long revivals - better than most movies now a days.
You deserve an Oscar, or Emmy, or whatever. Your episodes are better than any movie or TV series! Always an enjoyable watch (or listen sometimes when I'm working). Thank you for being you, and congratulations Brian!
A very rainy day here in the UK Derek and we absolutely loved watching this. What a lovely car a great job done for Brian. Thanks for sharing...Cheers for now!
Great story, way to give back, way to be charitable. Your kindness won’t be forgotten when someone needs help.
Derek, you and your family are the family of the day, month and year! Footing the bill for the make it run & drive, all your time and effort plus donating to a very worthy charity! Outstanding! And the car is a story all in itself. Buying it when he was 19 and waiting 35 years to be fortunate to have you do the wrenching on it to get her back on the road. Outstanding again! By the way thanks for the ride!

I appreciate the walking through testing process with explanations. No assumptions made. Let's just keep learning more together. Great for beginners and great reminders for the more experienced. Keep up the great work.
Such a beautiful, beautiful car! Reminds me of the '55 Bel Air HT we had when I was a kid. We had the darker blue/white paint. All of your work takes me back to the days when I'd have to lay on a snowy, sleet covered asphalt drive and change a starter or be in the rain changing a generator on my own '55 that I owned when I was 18. I loved your comment, "They don't make them like they used to". My next door neighbor, a guy who could fix anything, got me started turning wrenches when I was 14 or so back in the 60's. He would say you hear people talking about how they don't make 'em like they used to and he'd add, "It's a damn good thing, too!". Love your channel!
What a great car and a great cause for a donation. My father bought a 55 new and we had it until the clutch went through the floor in '67. It remains one of my all time favorite cars. Well done.
Amazing how four decades later someone can know so much about a car they owned for couple of years. I know I will remember how I bought my all my cars too many years later. Just amazing how much cars means to us.
Oh ya full length film. Luv when Derek gives us these ones. Beautiful car to boot!!
I've been a fan for many yrs. I watch all your videos. I'm 71yrs old. This one hit home. When I was 19 I bought a 55 just like this one. NOT MX but it was black inside and out. The guy I got it from drove it to Mexico and had all the insides done in black leather tuck and rolled. Even the head liner. Sure wish I would have kept that car. Best 2 1/2 hrs I have spent watching your show.
Derek knows thats a professional hood prop. It was laid out there too for this in bet or that was really coincidence. I have a similar one from my father in law when he retired. For all those cars with the sacked out hood struts so you dont get guillotined! I use it to this day on stiff that wont stay up.
I've been there in Connecticut! A nice middle-upper class city. My girl friends grandma lived near there. Meriden,Ct. is the town. I've been on those roads you drove Derek. So cool. I know, of three off hand, three law enforcement officers "hit and run" victims two dead. One a close friend IS still alive, Thank God. Wow, Derek and Jessica do great work!
