Derek, that episode brings back a lot of memories. I turned 16 in 1968, and my dad had bought a brand new 1967 Pontiac and the 67 and 68 were almost identical. The color of that one looked identical to my dad`s car and yes they were a boat compared to today's cars. Thank you, Derek, for the memories, I`m 71 now crippled, and live in a bedroom at my son`s place now, my wife has passed away a little over 8 years ago, and our first date was in that 67 Pontiac. Writing this one out made my eyes do a little leaking.
We hear you Gary - stay well mate!
All the best to you Gary and thanks for sharing!
What a lovely, and somewhat sad, post Gary.
Here's hoping you get some respite from your ailments.
It's posts like yours that probably drives Derek on.
Thank you and keep well mate.

What I like about your videos is the memories from a time and place that sadly no longer exists I'm 70 and don't recognize the country any more..Thanks for reminding me I was pumping gas at a popular filling station Community Shell in 68
This channel is so good. I’ve been watching it for a couple years and it’s always entertaining and educational. Awesome to see him and his family grow to where they are now with the massive garage and lift. Derek’s mannerisms are what make it so fun to watch. Love seeing all the cars he brings back to life and the motor swaps and you do learn a thing or two. Keep up the awesome content man.
Yes I feel almost confident to rebuild a carb...almost 😅
A fella just loves ending a hard week of work with a wobble pop and a good down home video from my ole buddy Derek at VGG!!!!!
Legend!
You got that right.
Love to see that car built out!
You mean Feller lol
Gotta love a wobble pop while watching VGG! 🍻🍻🤟
This is one of my favorite cars he's done. It's deserving of a full restoration. Just a beautiful Bonneville with classic lines. Fix it up proper, Derek!
I wonder if theres a block mod that can fix the perennial timing chain woes with a little extra oil in just the right spot? I've never rebuilt a Pontiac
@@flinch622 it's not an oiling issue it's that the guides wear and the timing chain stretches. Just replace with a new set or fix it permanently by running a gear set
@@tima6549 M
I wonder what the guy who dumped 14 gallons of gas into the oil pan trying to start it before thinks about you getting it running with very little effort.
Couldn't agree with you more
@Repent and believe in Jesus Christ why he doesn't like Pontiacs
I’m so grateful there are people like Derek that keep history alive. The best thing is it inspires more and more people to do the same.
agree one thousands percent Nicolay.
Also agree
And drives up prices. I liked it better when only myself, Derek, and about 13 other people were doing it 😅

“The pronounced classics” - should not necessarily be the object of your desire if you are on a budget 🤔
While the government tries to erase it.
The old girl really wanted to take a trip and ran smooth. Love this channel so so much. Best to you and your family Derek
Great episode, Derek! Would definitely love to see more on the Bonneville, get the gauges up and running, maybe the radio and with some new tireage, see just what she can do!

My first time going over 100 mph was in a ‘68 Bonneville with my Dad when I was 11 in 1974. “Don’t tell your Mom.” Always loved the lines and look of the ‘68 “Bonny”, the trunk is absolutely massive, and the ride is fantastic. She’s a keeper!!
My first time was without my father in a hand-me-down '68 Bonneville sedan in Moonlight Burgundy. Hit the top of the speedo late Saturday night on I-696 in Macomb County, Michigan in 1979.
Luxury speedboat with wheels
@@kevinfitzgerald1010 If my 1970 Lemans sport would do 150MPH.? Also a Georgia Sherriff could catch it in a New Yorker. Most of those old "land barges" really can get going on long stretches on concrete. Kinda like I found that my brother's '95 Aspencade could catch and pass my '95 GSX 600. ON a straight line road.
@@warrenpuckett4203 Top of the speedo was only 120, but you're right in that I-696, which was very new then, had plenty of straight and smooth concrete the way few roads do now.
@@kevinfitzgerald1010 The LeMans Sport was more optomistic had the same cluster as a GTO. But I guess GM did not want to scare the wife. The speedo strait up is a safe speed. But if is a 160 MPH she will eyeball it.
My old lady gets nervous at 65 in a 70 MPH zone. It was a lucky man that got one of those luxury land barges.
She would not drive my '94 Crown Vic. Because it had a Canadian Speedo.
love how you bring these old cars back to life with out spending a ton of money or turning them in to a modern car
I have a soft spot for these late 50's-early 70's big boats, Pontiacs especially. Beautiful shapes, inside and out. And some of them are pretty snappy, too! Would love to see a longer build out of one of these, either original tech or something modern that you could just sit in and drive, any day. With modern fuels, sitting is the absolutely worst thing you can do to a carbureted car, maybe an old engine with modern sniper kit or something.
I only subscribe to one channel. This one is it. It's so wholesome, and funny. Thanks, you bring a bit of old fashioned values to the show. Love you guys at VGG.
Thank you
I agree with you 100%

@@_BAD_MERC_ It’s all good. I’ve been watching since the revival of Independence.
Derek, I've watched a lot of your videos and liked them. I have to say while I was watching this one how lucky you are to have such a beautiful family. You've been blessed!
Your skills are motor repair are exceeded by your skill as a family man.
I would put a 12 Vdc electric fuel pump in it. I always like to watch Derek rebuild old cars. I would like to see him rebuild a 1978, Ford, LTD ll, 2 door. That was my first car.
Definitely want to see more of this car! Glad to see another GM B-Body saved and back on the road!
Would love to see this classic in top condition.
Me too! I'm kinda annoyed at everyone that wants only revivals, they gotta get fixed up to pay the bills! A good mix, like moderation in a person's life, is a good plan.
I can’t thank a guy enough for bringing back memories of my parents Pontiac when I was just knee high to a grasshopper. Waaaay to happy you’re back on rescues, perfect😎👊🏻
Rescues haven't gone anywhere.
You gotta love the mid sixties-early seventies GM boats. Very rugged and well-built. Can't wait to see what you do with this one. My vote is for just a nice clean family cruiser maybe with a nice set of 15 or 16 inch wheels and maybe a nice mellow dual exhaust.
That's a good looking car! I love seeing the classics come back to life, keep up the good work Derek!
A revival? Gotta believe it, I’m looking right at it.
I discovered Vice Grip Garage last week while recovering from my third surgery in six months. THANK YOU for your humble attitude and your exceptional skills, and for sharing little glimpses of your family. Love the show!!!
Get well James! 😊
Right on! This guy is fun
What you need is low-key humor after surgery. You get somebody who makes you laugh real hard, it’s going to be painful on the guy…
I came to this video because I came across a '68 Bonneville identical to this one but dark green in a salvage yard here in Oklahoma yesterday. It's complete except wheels. The yard shot me a tempting price. Ooh the dilemma.
What a beautiful car. It’s in such great shape. Would love to see it on the channel again. Nice find!
Well now if that’s not a real goin’ ta town rig, I don’t know what is. What a beaut! And a great runner, too! Love to see this one come back to life and get some attention and love.
One of these could break a speed record just by occupying both ends of the Salt Flats. I was a young mechanic in those days, and I remember being annoyed when mid-sized cars started being called full-sized. The 'boat's' days were numbered. Thanks Derek for waking the old girl up. She still has a few things to say.
You got me back, 1967,68 Catalina , Bonneville, Executive , my favorite!
This car was made the year I was born. A beautiful cruiser. Would love to see it fully restored. Would love to have a vintage gem like this. I'm glad to see you bring these gems back to life instead of them just sitting and wasting away. I love the color on this one. Amazing interior too.
I had a 1968 Pontiac Catalina. Found it on the side of the road for 150 bucks. Brings back great memories.

Absolutely love 60s Pontiacs. This by far had to be the most trouble-free get it run I've seen you do in a long time. I believe the first video I've watched of yours was your 69 Camaro ripping through the fields, it's great to see how far your channel has come since then. Keep up the great work and God be with you and your family Derek 👍✌️🇺🇲
Mid 60's Pontiacs were the best.
New carb and a hei, not much to go wrong
I started watching your videos on CZcams at work on nightshift. I love what you do and you include your family.
I turn 69 in a few days and my Family has had several of the vehicles you've revived on your show. I truly appreciate every episode l can snag. Very entertaining and, well....really nostalgic in many ways.
You're the King of reviving classics, just love it. Puts a big smile on my face. 😊🚗
Glad you enjoy it!
Derek is such a character that no matter what your first episode of VGG was, it's always hilarious. "WAY too much, perfect" the first time will have you rewinding like "did I hear that right?" But you still love it as you say it along after the 50th time.
I don't think his family tree has any branches...
Derek & I is planning a camping trip with that car. I betted him if we put a tarp over that trunk lid we can both sleep real comfy in that trunk without touchin each other butts... Okay folks lets do this talk Derek he is in charge till I get there with the big green tarp.
...
I find my self using his phrases like chargawhirler, lightning hoses, etc etc
i say "fuelmakeithappener" waaaaaay to much. my work hates me. but a guy dont really care. Right down the "yap" also works good
This video brought me great joy and excitement. I got my driver's license in 1968 so I'm right out of this era. My dad had big GM's since the time I was a little guy and started hanging around watching him doing his own garage maintenance. I learned a lot about the GM V-8s through all those years. Dad had a '60 Buick 225, '60 Pontiac Ventura, '62 Pontiac Catalina, '64 Pontiac Bonneville, '64 Olds 98, '70 Pontiac Bonneville, and '73 Olds 98. At about that time I left home but he continued with big GM's and then switched to Lincolns in the '90s onward.
I'm from Oregon and I live in Oregon but I spent 25 years in California and me and my co-workers and friends used to run a Bonneville just like that all over the Bay Area some of the Happy Days of My Life
Brings back memories. My first car was a (same color) 68 Tempest 350 2 barrel power glide.
It would be nice Derek if you'd do a project where you make it look as close to the way it rolled off of the manufacturers product line as possible. Not every car needs to look like a rust bucket. Please.
Derek, this episode was top notch educational comedy content. You are really able to transport that golden American Muscle Car spirit to a clueless guy in Germany.
Dereks transformation from original VGG videos to those today are amazing. He's really refined his craft and the world is better for it. BRING THE THUNDER!!!

Congratulations on 1.5M subscribers Derek. That’s a huge accomplishment. You’ll be at 2M in no time. Love your content.
My aunt had one of these with a 428. My cousin drove it to school. All his buddies had Mustangs and Dusters and Cudas. They had a 1/4 mile strip laid out way out in the country. All his buddies would leave him in the dust coming off the line but about 1200 feet that big boat would float past them. He finally blew it up.
Beautiful car; I saw them on the road when they were new, and the Bonneville always seemed luxurious to me (we were poor). I don't think I ever saw anyone under the age of 65 driving one, so as a kid I thought they were old folks cars. But I always wanted to ride in one. You did a fine job bringing this one back to life. It's still a beauty, and I genuinely hope you'll do much more with it!

I laugh every time you say you’re not a mechanic if you’re not a mechanic, I shouldn’t even be sticking my head under the hood to look at a car
That's probably one of the nicest cars I have seen on here almost reminds me of my cousin old Pontiac grand pre
Back in 72 I was 12 and my best friends parents had a 68 Bonneville. They invited me to go with them in July on a weeks vacation to San Francisco..living in Palm Springs it was quite a drive, about 8 hours . I remember thinking what a nice, smooth riding car it was, and the AC with the old freon was ice cold!! It was fun and I had a great time. Jack and I are still great friends! Great job here, awsome.
My Grandpa who raised me worked for Pontiac Motors for 40 years. He passed away almost 5 years ago so I loved seeing this old Bonneville brought back to life, I know he’d love to see this too!
My father started at Pontiac just after WW2. He was working on some kind of anti aircraft gun as they hadn’t transitioned back to building cars then. Grew up on Columbia across the street from the school. He had a maroon 68 Catalina then 73 and 75 Bonnevilles. There was four houses between where I grew up and the train yard and the plant.
Was really hoping to see this one on a descent run. You delivered. Perfect VGG
Love that Bonneville Derrick, nice color, that nice blue patina fade looks Awsum and the white interior just goes perfect,my dad had a 66 ragtop white with a red interior. Great memories your show often brings back for me reviving these beautiful old cars and trucks that I grew up around..
Love the Pontiac nose on 60s poncho`s
Whilst I always try to watch all of the content Derek makes this type is probably my favourite! Going out and fixing cars on the spot has such a charm to it
I know what you mean, it’s also more difficult in the areas he is working in which makes it more fun to watch and I wish I had the money and time to go do it.
The only way to improve this would be to fix it out away from his home yard where everything is. I like the 500 miles from nowhere, middle of a field, limited tools and parts revivals. That's the primo content.
Loved this... 1 of my Fav Derek--- thank you for doing these things....

Those Pontiac 400's are excellent engines! Right around 340-350hp in 1968.
I had a '69 Catalina, and if you _glared_ hard at the brake pedal it would about put you though the windshield. It was always great fun going from that to my aunt's '68 Nova that didn't have power brakes (or, more precisely, transitioning back to the Catalina from the Nova). I miss that old boat - taught me a lot about car maintenance, and was great fun to drive.
Those power brakes were touchy, and all drums too on our '69 Bonneville
@@thall5783 My 69 had drums all around. She still stopped though!
Pontiac called their power steering and power brakes "Feather Touch" back then and yes, you only had to touch those things to get a reaction.

Same here! First car was a 68 Bonneville, mine was a 4 door and i was 15 years old in 76😂
I bought a '68 Catalina for 200 bucks. It had this same engine but a two barrel carb. It was a great car. I took a 25 inch color console TV to the repair shop and didn't even have to tie the trunk lid down. Just set the TV in the trunk and closed the like lol.
Almost 'same here' except mine was a '63. I bought it in 1965 when I was 18 and really loved the car,, BUT it was a 'Land Yacht' and all my buddys were driving Tri 5 Chevs and late '50's early Fords so I traded it in on a brand new '70 340/Torqueflight Dodge Dart. I liked my Dart but never forgot (even to this day at 76 yrs 'ol) how much I 'loved' that big ol gold on gold, 389ci Bonneville.
