    The rubies belong to the people who are native to Mozambique, not foreigners coming in profiting off the land. They say they are giving back by supplying equipment and resources for farming but that is only a fraction of what they make. Help develop the area through infrastructure, providing education, and jobs. Mozambique government also needs to do a better job to not allow foreigners to profit off our land while the people suffer.

      My family and I, in 2017, brought my mother back to her village home village, Chicuque, Inhambane, to rest with her mother and father, in the back of the church he pastored, buried among the people he served: at the Chicuque rural hospital, church with that wonderful bell tower are all going strong and happy!

    Was an "Australian Volunteer Abroad" in Cabo Delgado Province 1994-1996. A Terra Do Boa Gente. A magnificent country. So much potential. My Mozambican workmates, neighbours and friends deserved so much better - yet I was constantly surrounded by good humour, hard work and generosity. So disheartening to read of the problems 'Up North'.

    Why would the towns/villages close to the mines be so poor? The people are native to the land so it would be expected that they should benefit from the erosion of their rubies. Weak and corrupt governments and colonization are the problems.

      Colonization? A country whith such amount of resources would be totally developed by now if not by Mozambique's government corruption. It's time to call things as they are. Colonization finished in Mozambique more than 50 years ago. Blaming others only helps those corrupted politicians to get away with their crimes.

      You left out the Chinese. Today they probably have the biggest footprint among foreigners in Africa. Take a look at Angola. They mortgaged their country to China and are in debt beyond the ability to ever repay, even with all their natural resources.

      Estes não são povos moçambicanos k são terroristas, vem de fora e são patrocinados por europeus para não se fazer a refinadora de gás como estava previsto, porque antes do gás não havia terroristas e nunca houve confusão mas desde 2017 pra cá vem estás confusões devido a descoberta de gás e petróleo... e é estranho esse grupo k se diz jihadistas não dizer o k quer com o ataques diferente de outras regiões os terroristas dizem o k querem fazem videos mas estes terroristas ficam anónimos... eu acho estranho isso.       Amen. I saw same thing in Beira and there is a nice lodge and I asked the white owners where are you from originally and they said Serbia. My heart sank. We got zero historical connection with Serbia and I can guarantee the only blacks you will obviously find in Serbia won't be from southern but from West Africa mainly Ghana and Nigeria 😢😠😠

      One of the biggest entrepreneurs in the airport sector is a Nigerian businessman. He owns Gatwick, City of London and Edinburgh airport

      Mentira, Ilha de Moçambique é dos moçambicanos e no século VII Mussa Al Bique casou com uma princesa moçambicana da tribo emakua e ficou dono da Ilha criando sheikados e sultanatos como o de Angoche e outros o povo da ilha de Moçambique é uma mistura dos árabes e Moçambicanos incluindo a língua, a presença persa só foi no comércio... o nosso país tem o nome de um rei árabe k casou com a rainha criando uma grande cidade a maior de todas antes dos portugueses chegarem cá era chamada a terra de Mussa Al Bique k os portugueses passaram a chamar Moçambique.     Moçambique é um país rico em minério de gás e joias, só que tem um povo pobre em consciência e educação, um povo que é pobre por dentro nunca será rico por fora é lamentável, aqui no Brasil existe as duas faces desse dilema em algumas região existe povo rico morando, e outras pobres moram, esse contrastes faz com que sejamos um país capitalista sem ter capitalista morando nele, sendo assim no mundo de hoje os países que faz parte no hemisfério sul foi desenhado pra ser submisso aos países do hemisfério norte nós fomos disciplinados assim desde da segunda guerra mundial.

    The whole African continent is rich in natural resources. If European multinationals stopped meddling in local politics, if blessings were equally distributed among all Africans, there would be no strife in Africa, leave alone Mozambique. Africa has more than enough to make all Africans live an easy, comfortable life. Sadly Africa doesn't have enough to satiate the greed of a few.

    The subtitles seem like they are deliberately worded differently from what is being said. Weird.. Like the script was translated to a different language and then translated back into English separately.

      Because a mixture of French and Portuguese is being spoken. So the Portuguese is translated to French on your screen. Presumably then difficult to translate to English in one take.
