- Did Alexander Volkanovski come back too soon?
It’s a question plenty of people have asked since Volkanovski’s almost five-year reign atop the UFC featherweight division ended with a brutal knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. Volkanovski, 35, is now just 1-3 over his past four bouts after starting his UFC career with a legendary 12-0 run that saw him capture the featherweight title and defend it five times. Alexander Volkanovski has released a statement following his knockout loss to Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski returned to the octagon this past weekend at UFC 298 against Topuria. Going into the fight as a slight favorite, 'The Great' had never been defeated in his weight class. After a competitive first round, Topuria connected with a flush right hand amidst a four-punch combo, which knocked out Volkanovski. Despite being knocked out in his last two fights, 'The Great' is still in high spirits and is eager to get his belt back. Volkanovski recently released a video statement on his CZcams channel.

Really grinds my gears how everyone is suddenly writing him off.
👀
Mentally he seems different. Just compare his first fight vs Islam and his second, far more hesitant and barely attempting strikes.
The people that think he's on a downfall after losing to 2 incredible best of the best guys where it could've gone either way on any given night are absolutely muppets. It's astonishing the lack of IQ within the mma community. Honestly, should we be surprised?
@prueba9a956 compare them? It was a head kick... How prepared can he be? 😅
Hes not different HES STILL A BEAST
His ring IQ and technique is as good as ever, but a loss of confidence marks a huge before/after. Take a look at Jose Aldo for example, that dude got beat by Conor when he was only 29 and still had years of physical prime left yet never performed at the same level again, why do you think that is? getting humiliated in front of millions and being made to know that you can get put to sleep will for sure change something in you forever. Mentally, I mean.
“time beat him. time takes everyone out, its undefeated.” - Rocky
Volk deserved that rematch. But if he doesn’t win..
I hope he doesn’t return to the sport… for his legacy. Dude is a gentleman
Volk spent his prime years in rugby and as champ in the ufc. Bloody brilliant mate. Excuse my attempt at ozzy .
Hilarious how volk gets caught with a nice punch and then everyone turns their backs on him. He's gonna take ilia out in the rematch
Is not only Ilia, who is really good, the situation here is that he is 36 now, against a champion that is 27, and sum to that, he was k down twice in a row. Also, people forget that we are not counting only those two punches that put him down. During the training, he received punches, too, so his brain didn't have the opportunity to heal.
As a Topuria fan it's sad to see the great Volk's downfall in real time. Respect to this legend.
@@MacDernifvolk has always been known for his technique and strategy not athleticism
Song?
Volk is a good dude
I think Topuria is just that good that he made easy work of volkanovski
*I wouldn’t say easy work but ilia style is a bad matchup for him, if him volk I fight a couple contenders like Mitchell and fighters with no KO power until I feel comfortable again.*
Volk wasn’t outclassed or “easy” work he just got caught. He won the first round but like TJ was saying he was too tentative because of Ilia’s power
@@justbleedprod.9414 exactly and if they fight again volk will look much more hesitant 😕 that’s the game man, sad for volk one of the best to ever do it but I don’t see topuria losing anytime soon.

i dont get how any actual fan of volk wants to see him out there again, i personally wish he'd retire
He will be back. Take time off, fix you're mind. Then come back and put them away.
It's respect. Least we can do is give volk rematch
Illia is great, but let's not pretend he beat a prime Volk. The last time we saw Prime Volk was the Yair fight
He should get a rematch and if he loses again it would be smart to retire.
First knock out and age, he needs time out but also has to accept he can’t be fighting for built again
Would Volk had accepted the fight if his belt was on the line?
WhY is DC crying on the mic?
Age dooms everybody .
I love Volk, but I do not think he wins a rematch against Topuria. 🤷
So is he going to keep risking his brain health to gatekeep a division he ruled for 5 years? I hope his friends are talking to him about the future because whether it's now or a few years from now, his career won't last forever.
None of them are anything that isn't true. He needs to rest his brain like dc said.. reset ur chin.. that switch.
The skills are there but, the chin isnt
F age bruh, he took a heavy loss that takes away from your spirit. Pro fighters know that getting knocked out can ruin your confidence. He needs to fight his mental battles first.
Pereira is 36 and in his prime.
Romero still kicking ass at 47 years in bellator. Don’t be fooled by age
Islam took that mans career
First
I can't imagine being rich and depressed or suffering from mental issues due to not having a fight lined up. Idk man, owning a few business, being known worldwide, very likeable... I think he was just pulling at the heart strings of people to divert from the KO
your imagination isnt very good.
I think it's real, but I also don't understand it. Everyone has mental issues, small or large, and Volk is in a great position to deal with them. I think he needs better advisors. It seems like everyone was stroking his ego even after that KO. His coach was delusional after that fight, so it's not a good sign.
When the juice just doesn't help against some fighters!
👀
What juice dummy, u guys are down bad 😂
