- No. 3 ranked UFC lightweight, American fighter Dustin Poirier has spoken out about his upcoming fight with Frenchman Benoit Saint-Denis. The bout will take place on March 10 at UFC 299 in Miami, USA.
Poirier, 35, hasn't fought since he suffered a knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in a BMF title fight in July. He is coming off the most high-profile stretch of his career, a three-year run that has included two fights against Conor McGregor, a title fight against Charles Oliveira, a fan favorite bout with Michael Chandler and the BMF fight.
Saint Denis, 28, is currently on a five-fight win streak.
UFC lightweight star Dustin Poirier feels “great” about where he stands with the promotion one week after his UFC 299 booking with Benoit Saint Denis was cast into doubt.
Poirier was tight-lipped on the specifics of what went on behind the scenes to jeopardize the fight, which co-headlines the March 9 pay-per-view in Miami. More important to him was that everything worked out.

Huge BSD fan here but we got to admit Poirier's sportsmanship to accept this fight.. So awesome !

Benoit is the real deal, I'm not saying Dustin isn't. I see this being an all out war however St Denis coming out on top. Excited for this fight
If he doesn't stop Dustin there's no chance that Benoit comes out on top. Dustin is one of the greatest fighters of all time in the Championship rounds, it's incredibly rare for a guy to get better and better the deeper the fight goes and there's no evidence that Benoit is that guy that will get harder as the water gets deeper.

He kind of got the best of Benoit at that moment. Entire session available here on youtube....Just saying. Way more experienced and successful than Benoit.
They don't belong in the same gym, he crossed France from North to south (kind of) to help Benoit improve even more.

Then as a personnel opinion, Poirier seems to limp a lot when casually walking, his body seems broken in a way.

I’m worried for Poirier because in my opinion after a knockout like the one he suffered he should wait, I know he’s cleared to fight but the brain is a guessing game and I think this happens to often to guys. It should be at least a year off. Like I said it’s my opinion.

Regardless, Dustin Poirier's performance will allow him to get a few more great fights and I'm all in for it, I love watching this dude fight. BSD is 28 so he can bounce back, he showed that he was on another level.

I know Americans struggle with English - they don't like silent letters in words and, for them, words are pronounced as they're spelled! So, with St Denis - they all seem to be baffled. If you're going to go "Full American" with the pronunciation, then it has to be Saint Denis. Otherwise, the correct pronunciation is "San Denee". It's not "San Denis" or "Saint Denee". Maybe just go with BSD but that's an acronym for a computer OS from California in some quarters!!! 😀

I don't see Benoit's striking as being a threat. The only thing he has working for him is his youth being 7 years younger. 35 is a bad age to be fighting. It defeated Volk and it will probably do the same to Dustin. This won't prove much to me until I see him take on Justin and Charles. Justin is also 35, but he is better fight shape than Dustin.
