    I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one czcams.com/users/postUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

    tbh I prefer the 2018 version. It's cheaper, the bezels are bigger (which is good for my also big hands) and the device is a little lighter (I know there isn't much difference but since I'm holding it all the time, it does make a difference. And you have to think of the case's weight, too). You can still switch to dark mode, so I don't think the "warm screen" is really necessary. And so far I don't see much problems with the lagging, it's just normal to me... So yeah, I'm sticking with this version.

      2018 better for reading with one hand due to larger bazels, avoiding accidental touches. And it is lighter weight which is very important when you are reading longer hours your wrists dont get tired. I will only upgrade then amazon does a lighter machine.

    • @squirlywirl
      @squirlywirl Před rokem +5

      I decided to upgrade from my PW4 and the PW5 because I also thought that the slightly bigger size and weight won't bother me but after a month of using it I just never got used to it. It's kinda uncomfortable to use for a long period of time and the weight is definitively even more noticeable with a case on. My PW5 stays at home and I only use it night when I want the to read with the warm light. Otherwise, my PW4 is still my go to.

    I agree with your review. I've replaced my original Kindle - which was the 1st generation - with the Paperwhite 2021version and have found it so much better. I'd have kept going with my original if the case hadn't broken, but the difference going from that version to this, has been amazing. I've read more this year purely because I can read at night now so much more comfortably.

    I own the kindle keyboard 3rd gen. I bought it way back in 2011. It still serves me well. The only issue is the power button, it does not move back by itself when i turn on the device. There is also a small crack at the lower right corner. The battery still holds a charge for a long time, even though i use the device almost daily. I will keep using it until it stops working. When 3g wireless is phased out, i will download the books through my computer. This device has been with me at work, on holidays and weekend adventures in my kayak. It has helped me wind down after long days at work and long days on the water. When life was stressfull, the books i stored on it provided temporary relief. 11 years and it still works.

    Important to clarify that neither Paperwhite model is back-lit, as you say. Blue light from phones and laptops bothers me at night because it's back-lit (shining at me from behind the screen), whereas the Paperwhite casts the light over the screen and is easier to view right before sleep. I think this is an important distinction for people to know if considering an upgrade, as the Kindle's front-lit blue light may not disturb sleep in the same way that back-lit blue light would.

    I would just like to comment on the storage size: If you use an abundance of audio books or manga/graphic novels with your kindle you may want consider a larger size as these forms of media tend to be larger in data sizes. Personally, 1 year of reading books (Over 150 books loaded , 3 graphic novels, one audio book, and 0.29GB of OS and Updates) I have 26.74GB of my original 32GB kindle available. My wife used to fill up her Kindle with hundreds of medical reference texts that were massive and full of images, charts and tables. It was a clear advantage for her to have a while library of medical referenced in her lab coat while on shifts, especially un rural hospitals / clinics with no wifi and spotty electric current.

    I really think that Amazon should start phasing out the over-all generation naming. ie: The current Paperwhite is the Paperwhite 5. The Paperwhite - 5th generation. While thinner bezels and bigger screen for reading is nice, the smaller one is more portable since it’s smaller, easier to hold with one hand to read, and the older one has all those pretty colors like the sage green where the newer one only comes in black. I absolutely love my sage green kindle.

    So I have really struggled with kindle devices for a while. I, for the last couple few years, have been reading of off my samsung galaxy fold /fold 2. This is perfect for me because the device is the perfect size. I can annotate how I like and its the perfect over all phone/device for me as a reader daily so I couldnt fathom how to spend money on a device that is half the greatness of my phone.. but I have started to noticed my eyes beg for a break on screen time since all I look at are screens all day. It's black Friday time and I got a cheap kindle from best buy. The lag kept pissing me off because my phone doesn't do that and I hate that I can't make the reading view how I want it.. so I'll probably hardly use it..

    I have a 2013 Paperwhite (still working, just needs charging every 3 or 4 days rather than every couple of weeks) and there is a huge difference in response time, except for one thing, Notes, on my new Kindle, when I press on a word and choose notes, it seems to be some time before the keyboard responds when I start typing. After the first letter, however, it is perfectly fast. I have had some issue with my new Paperwhite, crashed and restarts, and I"m sending it back for a replacement which should sort it out.

I'm shocked about the painstakingly laggy interface, I was used to read the Kindle app in my snapy galaxy tab. Of course, it is so much confortable to read an ambient-lit e-ink screen than a OLED for longs periods of time, so I'm happy despite the sluggishness.

      The Kindle Fires show colors, they're somewhat heavier but I enjoy seeing my book covers in color. The Fires come in 7, 8, & 10 inch. The 8 inch one is good because you can use it for both streaming media, internet browsing, & reading. They're also very cheap if on sale.

    on the 18 if you have an audible subscription you can download your audible book and with a Bluetooth speaker you can listen to them ….
    on a Kindle app on your phone you can put a timer to it if you listen to it at night it turns off by time selected.

    They make it look like night and day size difference, the actual primitre of the tablet it’s only about half inch difference bigger on the new model but they did a good job in making the screen bigger, so it would fit just as good.
    And it’s not heavy by much because it’s only they made an half inch difference on the dimension and they used every available space within the tablet to make the screen bigger so you will notice the screen difference good job.

    What value is the updated cable really though when you think about it? You plug it in, it charges, kindle holds the charge for a while...as long as current operating systems and pc's are compatible with the older cable, the newer cable doesn't pull much weight in terms of upgrade when considering switching...
