- Last night Kate’s documentary ‘Derek’s story’ aired, telling the events of the final six months of his life. Viewers saw an insight into his progress, both physically and mentally, as well as the hugely demanding daily care services he needed. Derek sadly passed on 3rd January 2024, but Kate is determined to help transform the social care system to support people in a similar position who are struggling to manage life as a carer and the financial burden it brings.

I think she is doing a great job speaking out on behalf of carers and the financial burden they are in.
Kate is an amazing human who is fighting and advocating for every carer out there who are voiceless. Anyone who has anything negative to say about her has serious issues and need to take their negativity somewhere else. Humans are full of judgemental behaviours. Kate your humanity and compassion is what makes you great.
I feel she is pointing out needs for carers and a good job they do.

The long term Covid response Derek had seems like it’s very very rare. I haven’t heard of anyone else left this debilitated. It looked like MND. God bless you Derek so sorry for all you went through.
Long covid is post viral disease. It’s an incredibly curious set of symptoms he suffered from. Nobody else in the world has it quite like him

Lots of negative comments as usual regarding Kate....if you watched it last night, you would know that Kate is wanting our social care to improve.... surely that is a good thing... its down to our Government to improve our system....its needs improvement big time and that needs sorting out...
Everyone wants it to improve. But still have to give up work to care.not every one has her wages.

I love Kate and I watched the documentary last night. I really feel for her and her family. She did the right thing letting it be shown because that's what Derek wanted. Very empathetic and caring lady. ❤️

With kate it's not just a money maker anybody who understands kate and Derek's story will recognise this, Derek wanted his voice heard. To try and make kate sound so mercenary is frankly unfair and unkind. Please be kind this family are going through grief one foot in front the other.

“ hard work” . That would be the two highly paid jobs she was doing, while telling people she was caring for him, but in reality a team of nurses were doing the actual caring.

I think Ben tries to undermine Kate. Cat asked a genuine question how kate felt after watching the documentary and she said she was quite for an hour, he had to interupt and say its unusual for her. He is probably trying to funny but its rude as shes speaking about her experiences. I've noticed he undermines her when they use work together on Good Morning Britain.
Kate is such a courageous women and beautiful person. Sending all my love to her and her family 😊
All said & done Kate can look back on this experience & know she did the best for her husband at his most vulnerable. And her kids can see that too. 💖 & big up to Jake. Wonderful carer.

Thank you for using your platform to make people aware of what caring costs but especially how important carers are and they should be paid in consequence. Family members of those needing care shouldn't have to give up their jobs to care for them; they're not trained for that so not giving the right care. Next step? Get in touch with your MPs...

I had Covid at the same time as Derek but was very lucky to have stayed out of hospital, thanks to my oxygen levels although crashing but rising quickly. I felt very sad what the virus did to Derek and his struggles while desperately trying to recover. I wish Kate all the best and to take no notice of those nasty individuals out there. I worked as a carer in the community for two years and it was tough, hard work but worthwhile.
Kate really has courage in spades, I watched Derek's programme, Kate is amazing and Billy and Darcey have a wisdom beyond their years

Hardest thing to do particularly as a family member, lots of emotions at play and trying to do things as best as possible for someone you love ❤️

It’s so hard being a carer but what makes it worse when your jumping through hoops fighting for care it’s no surprise to me when I have seen it first hand when the carer hues down quicker than the person being cared for . So do wrong !! 😮😢
As a carer it is so frustrating. We often work well over our timeslots eg 30 mins , 1 hour. Without thanks or pay. Yet if u leave a call 2 minutes early they deduct your pay!
Seeing people who have saved all their lives for their retirement loose thousands in months Is so unfair. I've learned from working in care I will not save a nest egg as it will all be taken off you. One client of mine pays 3k a MONTH for 4 visits a day.
Cat Deeley seems like a nice lady, but sometimes I wish someone warmer, personality wise was presenting. It’s like she doesn’t fully connect with the interviewee.
Terrible choice for the job, she’s a kids tv entertainer….that’s her level.

Deeley has been around a long time ……a bit longer than Willoughby, possibly .
Hasn’t learnt much. Interrupts, over reacts, acts like a child.
There’s more to getting the job , than being a good presenter , it seems.
Even Ben was the second choice, behind Deeleys husband, but he knocked it back. Imagine how bad it would have been.
I think Ben has made a bad career move, to be fair, he needs a better partner than this . She’ll make the show unwatchable. It is getting that way for me.

I feel sorry for her of course, but there are a lot of cares alot that do even get a mention! There alot of cares that go through what kate gone through, its only because of who she is there making much of it, but theres many many many going through the same thing and don't get the time of day by the tv, the government or noone. A lot of people go back to work after a week its called life goes on and trying to get back to normality it helps with grieving.

How can people not see that she IS NOT complaining she’s trying to show the care needed isn’t there for people ,is not about her income ,if she manages to shine a light on the lack of funding ,it may help everyone who are struggling to get help ,

Wonder if derek caught covid when he flew out to Australia when Kate was in jungle as couple days before he was on gmb with kids and he look well. Wish he had got better as he was seem to be doing well even though he was never going to be the same person he was before covid. But even though admire Kate we shouldn’t forget about all the other people who went through this with their loved ones during vivid and had no support or drs decided to turn their support system off in hospital after few days of been ill or they had to choose who got the ventilators. Where I don’t know if it was cause Kate’s on tv but derek was kept in hospital for over a year and drs didn’t give up on him or switch his machines off . Derek at peace now no more pain. I hope the kids are doing ok .

I don't think this is about Kate or Derek. It's about highlighting a social issue that is a curse on society....lack of empathy for those less fortunate than ourselves and the care they require. I hope you never need it.

Kate is trying to raise awareness from her public platform of the issues that carers all over the country face. If money had ever been at the forefront of Kate’s mind, she would have told doctors not to strive to keep Derek alive, when she realised the cost financially and emotionally.
