I eat about 2-3 cans of chunk light a week for a quick protein fix.
Little did I know it helped my anemia go away.
Is a lifesaver when you eat in moderation.
Some of it almost looks like grey brain matter
I'm kind of a Health Hacker who's trying to improve my health, SO how does this work? A few Women I know have Anemia problems if that is the one with less red blood cells from a possible Bleed in your system.
It would have been nice to see each one dumped on a plate to better visualize the difference, nice info though.
Thanks for watching and your input! We certainly hear you on that.
That's why we created a page that compares albacore tuna and chunk light tuna from it's texture to where it comes from. Check it out: www.bumblebee.com/albacore-tuna-vs-chunk-light-tuna/
@@BumbleBeeFoods =2
the major point missed here is the albacore (generally the bigger sized fish) has more mercury in them in compare to the smaller tuna fish which have way less mercury in them
She must be a fan of heavy metal.
That's what I was looking for
major being an understatement....
The bigger point missed here is that the amount of mercury you actually consume from the fish is so infinitesimal that there is zero point in ever bringing it up unless you believe everything that your crazy friend from high school posts on facebook about mercury in fish, anti-vaxxer nonsense and their latest multi-level marketing "job" that _definitely_ isn't a pyramid sceme.
@@jokerproduction If you want to eat mercury then you go ahead but I’ll stick to eating the fish with the least of this very toxic element.
A useful tuna tutorial! I've often wondered what the differences were between the varieties of canned tuna, and this was real helpful to point me toward the right texture and flavor for what I'm making. Thanks!
Love this tuna I usually buy the solid white albacore in vegetable oil because I use some of the oil from the can in my salad and it just adds a really neat flavor!
+My Journee That's a great idea! Thanks for commenting and watching.
It's also not as good for. Might add some extra flavor but why even buy tuna at that point? Your fats in oil canned tuna are coming mostly from the oil. The fats coming from water canned tuna are coming mostly from the fish.

Looks like chunk light is pretty polarizing... I’m on the side that prefers it 👍. I bought it at random because I didn’t know the difference and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t like that dry white stuff. Now hearing from people that it has less mercury too, I think I’ll only get it from now on!
Yeah, especially for those of us who prefer to live longer. I actually prefer the taste and flavor of the less expensive chunk light tuna.
I also like the taste of some dark beers (the sweeter ones) which are found at the bottom of the barrel.
(Guess I'm just a cheap drunk.)
This is a really helpful video! I tend to buy the albacore that's on sale, rather than giving the variety much thought. This is great. Thanks!
Loved the info, I hate watery tuna and didn't know the differences I kept buying the wrong tuna not knowing, thanks, great info
Thank you so much for the clarification..
This used to confuse the heck out of me until I made a point of paying attention so I could remember which kind I liked. I like the chunk lite for tuna salad, but use the solid white for most everything else. And eventually, I decided I liked the vegetable oil variety best for flavor. It took me a long time to realize the oil was more flavorful to me for some reason. I always assumed I'd prefer the water and was wrong when I actually began paying attention and making the effort to learn just what the heck the differences were. Before then, it was all just tuna and I didn't understand these differences.
I see some interesting recipes on this channel, thanks in advance. I've really been grubbing on Bumblebee tuna and salmon recently for the health and affordability aspects. These vids make me feel even better about it.
I figure BumbleBee must be special, cuz I got cornered into trying the big competitors once and that was enough to make me decide on Bumblebee only.
Sorry for rambling. I just like these vids and that the company shares these and that they really have an appreciation for what they do. Its sets a standard, and Im grateful. ♥
We're so happy you found us and our CZcams channel! How tuna is canned definitely makes a difference in flavor. Happy you found the option you like best, and encourage you to keep trying new flavors!
Educational videos like this can be helpful. But your method of purchasing and sampling a variety of tuna styles and from different brands, being careful to note what you prefer, is the best way to learn your preferences. I have found inconsistencies, however, with tuna within the same brand and labeling. The texture and flavor can vary quite a bit even if you believe you are purchasing the same product each time you shop. You just hope it isn’t too far from what you were expecting b
Good information, I had wondered what the difference was between the different canned tuna.
thank you so much.
please make more videos
You forgot to mention most important fact that Albacore has 400% more mercury
honestly that is irrelevant unless you are eating it 2 or 3 times a day for months on end
White Albacore Tuna is the Best Quality Tuna Fish you can buy.
Mel G. best quality “canned” tuna
Not really
Chunk light is entirely disgusting
I buy chunk light
Chunk light tastes like cat food.
Thanks.. I just buy the Chunk Albacore, I can always break it up in the strainer when making tuna salad. Since I put other ingredients into my tuna salad as most people do, I tend to like my tuna dry. I find the hole Albacore once drained is very dry, but moistens right up with the mayonnaise. Since I add relish, the dryer the better. I mix up my salad right in the strainer, that way excess water is removed and also excess mayonnaise or juice from the relish can drip away, plus I don't dirty a bowl if going directly on bread when making a sandwich. I found the tuna was hard to drain and was wet.
Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. It's amazing what a difference Chunk and Solid Albacore can make in tuna salad. Have you tried any of our other Bumble Bee products?
Yes over the years had various types of Tuna, probably had them all at one time or another. I'm sure I've other Bumble Bee products as well.
It has too much mercury
THANK YOU!! Very helpful 🙂
Thanks. Awesome video willow
If I get canned tuna in sunflower oil and I drain the oil am I getting rid of most of the fats or all or none or what’s happening here
What about the Premium Fillet solid White Albacore?
I once read that albacore tuna has the highest omega 3 (in comparison to tongol )..is it true?
I don't know about highest omegas but it has the highest mercury content. Surely there's a safer way to get your omegas.
I found yellowfin tuna. I think it's healthier because it's a younger fish, less mercury. Ah, just noticed this is by Bumble Bee Seafoods, so would you be interested in the healthier yellowfin or skipjack tuna species? Albacore tend to be highest in mercury.
Thank you. Very helpful indeed. Solid. Chuck. Light.
My albacore was not white it was like orangy color does that make sense?
This was informative. Would like a video comparing the different types of canned tuna with oil. I’ve recently become a big fan of tuna in vegetable oil- is that good? Verses water?
Well, vegetable oil has a lot of omega-6 which kind of cancels out the omega-3 of the tuna. I’d only go for it if you’re trying to get more calories.
I always get the canned chunk light tuna in water. I drain off the water and add condiments, including mayo for sandwiches, plus chopped celery, sometimes some capers, and other herbs and/or spices per taste. I like the potpourri of flavors. It's how I imagine a seaside rainbow would taste like, with lots of different experiences on my taste buds. (My saliva ducts have suddenly kicked in, and my mouth is salivating.)
Which is best for just a plain ole tuna sandwich?
+Dwight Turner, for a tuna sandwich that mixes the tuna with a lot of other ingredients like mayo and celery, Chunk Light Tuna is a safe bet. For a sandwich that might be mixed with less ingredients or you want more of a solid consistency, we recommend Solid White Albacore.
Thanks 😊
Was looking for species names. Didn't get it.
I just bought your tuna on an amazing sale at Publix ❤
albacore soild white tuna how to prepare it.
Honestly i never knew the difference and i opened a can of tuna last night and wondered wtf was wrong with it. Its chunk light 😆
I thought "it" was, "She sells seashells by the sea shore." (???)
I like them all.
canned tuna was canned tuna before albacore became popular in the early 00's. It is all is dry as hell and even the more expensive solid albacore turns to flakes as soon as you take a fork to it. Don't be fooled by the more expensive solid albacore...and chunk light has less Mercury
OK, you like the thing you grew up with. Great. Just because you have a different preference doesn't mean people are "fooled" if they buy albacore tuna.
@@fashnek So higher mercury content is ok ?
Mercury content was an afterthought of the comment, added later, and I didn’t respond to it.
@@fashnek Yeah but its still a more important factor than the texture.
This was really helpful. Thanks 😊
Another important thing tp note, especially with the cheaper tunas like this is that a lot of them keep costs down by adding lots of soy as filler. That is one o the reasons they are so watery and much harder to drain. Soy retains water much better than tuna does. If you look you can find soy free tuna. It costs a little bit more. Just read the ingredients on the back of the can. And it usually comes in a gold can and has words like "premium" on it. It is a vastly superior product.
Can I mix chunk light tuna with albacore tuna together?
Why not???
Well duh
I have dark red fresh tuna caught from sea... whats the name of that tuna ???
Hi +Saad Ahmed Khan this video shows Bumble Bee® Tuna.
Charlie
That is Ahi (as we call it in Hawaii) the type of almost blood red, if fresh. Thats used alot in sushi or just sashimi. Its bomb
Albacore is always my favorite. Tastes far better than skipjack in every recipe.
You should use canned chicken instead. After adding other ingredients, including condiments, herbs, and/or spices, you'll never notice the difference.
@@xavierkoolat6926 I like canned chicken as well! It being packed in a good broth makes a big difference in flavour too. Thanks for the advice.
Really useful video, delightful presenter, thank you!
+Barry White thanks for watching!
She broke my ears.
I've never tried bumble bee, i don't know why, I've always got starkist, maybe i should try bumble bee
Please do give it a try and let us know how you like it! We recently came out with Seasoned Tuna Pouches with Spoon in a variety of flavors for a handy snack. Check them out: www.bumblebee.com/products/ready-to-eat-kits/seasoned-tuna-spoon-pouches/
I would. I tried SK once and it had an unappealing acidy tang to it. I had to try SK salmon once too and it was the same issue, and more liquid weight as well. I stick to BumbleBee now cuz its always consistently good. I like the chunk light for tuna salad because the taste is stronger, but generally the solid white in oil is my bff. It amazes me in these vids how much goes into keeping it fresh and healthy. I bet they pioneered some of the technology, to have come so far. The vids on their overseas Fiji operation are incredible. If I had seen these vids as a kid I would've asked to work for them :D
I eat 2 cans of albacore tuna a day. Bumble Bee select is my favorite.
That vocal fry is next level
What country of origin?
Is this Tuna University?
whats skipjack tuna?
+fofal Skipjack is a medium size fish from the tuna family. Most canned and pouch tuna comes from skipjack or albacore tuna. Light or chunk light tuna is most often skipjack, but may also include yellowfin, tongol, or big-eye. White tuna, including solid white albacore and chunk white, is albacore.
muy buena explicación gracias
I wonder if she pees in that Lionel Richie mug when no one’s looking and it smells like tuna
No mention of mercury???
i fucking love albacore tuna
but dont eat too much
i almost fuckin died
Very stunning person
They put anything in the net in chunk light
Do you live in the Valleeeey ?
Most underrated comment.
Albacore tuna 😋 From now on this is all I'm getting
What about the mercury level?
Many types of seafood (including tuna) contain minute amounts of mercury. The mercury level depends on the size and age of the fish, and the area of the catch. Commercial tuna is caught in the ocean far away from coastal areas where industrial discharges or emissions and the use of chemical compounds containing mercury can pollute the waters. That fact, combined with the essentially constant levels of mercury in tuna over the past 100 years, suggest that the miniscule amount of mercury that does exist in tuna is naturally occurring. Nearly all fish contain traces of methyl mercury. Canned tuna meets all health and safety standards set by the FDA, which has established the maximum safe level of methyl mercury allowed in commercial seafood at 1.0 parts per million. In the latest product survey by the FDA, canned light meat tuna averaged less than an eighth of that amount, and canned albacore tuna averaged about a third of the maximum safe level set by the FDA.
So it's safe to eat 2 cans a week?
@John Smith cool thanks, was really worried even though I didn't notice any side effects or whatever.
hmmmm.....always skipjack yellow fin or big eye tuna is in chunk form....never in a whole form....is this because the first cuts go elsewhere ??
Quarantine got me actin up
Who ever in life makes fish tacos with fuckin canned tuna dawg
Great Info ..I will avcoid the chunk lite from here out .
Thanks! Have you tried our Bumble Bee Solid Albacore Tuna or Seasoned Tuna Pouches?
@@BumbleBeeFoods I'd like to try you.
Thanks for clearly telling us the difference.
Or, OR...you can buy solid tuna and break it up into smaller pieces, thereby avoiding the friggin' mess you always get while trying to drain the chunk light tuna (or what I like to call 'slivers of tuna that you simply cannot drain enough of the water out').
First I cut the can top completely off, then used it to squeeze
out as much of that water mess as possible, then I dump the tuna onto several layers of paper towel sheets, and
squeeze out the water - the entire process is a mess. I thought about using a strainer, and maybe I will give that
a try with the second can. But that is also going to be a pain in the wazoo mess.
The other day at the grocery store, I was hurried and didn't pay attention well enough. I saw what I thought was
a sale price on tuna packed in water and grabbed two cans. When opening the first tuna can, I was appalled at
that sloppy, watery mess of tuna flakes floating in way too much water. I did not see "light" tuna or "chunks," just
the watery mess of tuna flakes. I guess I had not used anything but solid white or solid Albacore, for as long as
I can recall, decades.
Willow, whose manner of speech is that of a 13 year old girl, pronouncing, "fesh," instead of "fish."
Hilarious.
Yeah, Jiggerj and user-hz5yb4bh5v, you should DEFINITELY buy and eat the solid, white, more expensive albacore with the maximum amount of mercury in it. That way, since that's your favorite, you'll be apt to eat a LOT more tuna dishes and sandwiches weekly (and hopefully daily). You'll also die sooner cuz of the greater quantities of mercury you'll be digesting in shorter periods of time. I want to see more people like you eating more solid, white, more expensive albacore (canned tuna) to cause shortages of that type which will drive up the price of that type of "tuna" and then perhaps lower the price of the less desirable "chunk light tuna" (my favorite) for folks like me. I have always preferred the taste AND flavor of less expensive chunk light tuna for ANY type of recipe, whether it be for sandwiches or enjoyed separately by itself.
It's fish. I don't want to think I'm eating chicken.
As for using solid, white, more expensive albacore in recipes, I can substitute canned chicken cuz that tastes pretty much the same as the solid, white, more expensive albacore, after adding condiments and seasoning. Bon appetite.
I heard Bumble Bee tuna had been getting bad reviews and 1 star reviews.
Tuna eating contest go!
Is that a Lionel Richie coffee mug?
Can you get a bluefin tuna?
Or do you have to ask googan to get bluefin tuna. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why would anyone get tuna in oil? I honestly don’t understand.
And that small room now smells like post volleyball practice lockers.

Wow you guys must be single
Or virgins, either one
Why do you sound like you're asking me? What albacore? Is? It's a white fish? I think? It's tuna? It's softer?
Flavor, white just plain tastes better.
Mmm tuna
a chunk light in spring water not in olive oil. And a diet coke.
i was once a connoisseur of tuna sandwiches and i had to have the "white" tuna. solid or chunk, didn't matter, but had to be "white". mix it with some mayo, some fresh bread, and you have heaven. now the "light" kind seemed of lower quality to me and i didn't like it. now i have mercury concerns. my understanding is my desired "white" kind has significantly higher levels of mercury than the less appealing "light" kind.
Very useful info.
Stunning as usual!
Thanks!
Says the guy they pay to follow up on this shit.
I’d like to try your fish taco!
stupid lol
I already stop eating a lot of tuna and I can trust to eat any kind of food that is made of tuna 🐟

You overlooked one very major point. Not all cans of tuna (especially Starkist) contains tuna. If you read the content label you will see that most will say...contains tuna. But then you will also find some especially Starkist thst will sometimes say...contains soy. Which means you just got ripped off. I always read the label before I buy. But more impotaontly I only buy bumble bee which ive never had a problem with. If you open a can and it looks soupy like to much water...read the label its probably soy.
+Rocky Alvarez we're happy to here you are a fan of Bumble Bee® Tuna! Our products are largely free of soy. Any soy found in Bumble Bee products is usually a component of the vegetable broth used to flavor the tuna, a practice that has been used in the industry for decades. You'll also see our cans say "Contains: Fish (Tuna)" because of required allergy information we need to provide for customers. Thanks for your comment!
Rocky Alvarez wow thank you
@@BumbleBeeFoods That broth is amazing, can I have the recipe
OMG it contains soy because it is PACKED IN SOY BEAN OIL. No one is trying to pass soy off as canned tuna.
forgot to mention the most important thing is chunk light tuna has less mercury.
Hey Nicolas, interesting insight. Mercury levels depend on the size and age of the fish along with where it was caught. However, canned tuna meets all health and safety standards set by the FDA. For more information, check out the FAQ’s section of our website: www.bumblebee.com/faqs
100% I was waiting for that but I'm sure Bumble Bee told her to leave that significant part out. Albacore is a Larger Older fish so for that Fact it has a higher concentrations of mercury.
nicolas hayden yes!

Here you are - you must have searched for it. Yet you could have done the same thing on Google and actually learned something. W-pedia anyone? Read something.
Not to mention tuna also is loaded with high levels of mercury. This is why we are advised to limit tuna intake.

CHunk light tastes like shredded cardboard with fish oil for taste. I suspect this tuna is the reason so many give tuna fish sandwiches such a bad rap!
