When it comes to book-to-screen properties, the more popular the literary source material becomes, the tougher it'll be to satisfy readers' imaginations of how characters look in the screen adaptation. Readers of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series have no doubt noticed that HBO's Game of Thrones has taken some creative license when it comes to characters' appearances, so here's what your favorite Westerosians would look like if they more closely matched the author's imagination...

The single biggest error to me in the series was the stark children actually looked like Starks.
Lady Catelyns hate for Jon was amplified because he looked more like a stark than her own children, she couldn't give Ned, the man she loved, a Son that looked like him as much as Jon did. And that hurt her. Personally, I think that's the only major issue with appearance, because their appearance is part of the story. Jon is perfect as he is. But the rest should have looked more like a Tully than a stark. Like Rob, Auburn hair, blue eyes.

With Bran, the actor was 11 when the show started. So while it's not accurate to the books, they most likely didn't want to die his hair and even grown actors have trouble with contacts. And even as he got older, it would just be plain odd for him to all of a sudden change hair and eye color in the show. Also, it is tough to fake a missing ear of a person that appears very often.
Also, I think I speak for all fans, of any series, that we would rather have GOOD actors who can accurately portray various characters but don't entirely look like them, rather than actors who look EXACTLY like the characters but aren't able to portray them at all.

A lot of the criticism here is directed at incorrect eye color, but that's actually because it's the correct thing to do. The issue with contacts is that you can't see someone's pupils shrinking/growing very well through them - but our eyes are so well trained to read other people's eyes for their emotions and body language - that it's actually awkward to have an emotional conversation with somebody in colored contacts. In effect, if all these actors were wearing colored contacts - something would feel off about every single emotional scene they are in - which would potentially ruin a show like Game of Thrones: where the quality of acting is so critical to the show's success.

A gene comprises of two alleles, for a simplistic chart example, brown eyes could be represented by either; B B or B b, While recessive violet eyes could be represented as; b b. So, you’ll have a 75% chance per offspring that the child will be born with brown eyes.

It's not just that though. Features like hair and eye color are actually very important parts of the plotline in the books, because with those features it is that they identified the bloodline of a person. That's why all this shit started, actually. Ned Stark noticed that the Lannister children were all blonde and with green eyes, when if they were Baratheon children they would have Baratheon features, because the Baratheon seed is stronger than the Lannister's. That's one of the things that lead him to figure out Cersei and Jaime's incest, that's what Jon Arryn figured out, what got him killed, what brought the Starks to King's Landing and started all this crap...
It's also important foe the Targaryens because people with Targaryen features were Valyrian and considered above regular men. It's a BIT more complicated than nitpick, haha

The older age of the characters in the show vs. the books was intentional by GRRM. When he first started the books he intended for a 5 year time skip to happen, but then realized he would have to write too many flashback scenes to make up for it. For that reason he started the characters at a young age, intending to make them older but then wasn't able too. In the show, he wanted all the characters to start off older so it was more believable that someone like Jon Snow could be the Night Commander in his early 20's vs being about 17 at that point in the books.
Some things will never transfer from a book to the screen well. Barriston the Bold, in the books, is described as a man with a long white beard name "White Bread' later in the books. Since the reader can't actually "see" him it becomes a surprise when you find out it was Barriston the Bold the whole time. It would never work in a TV show because as soon as you see the actors face you would know it's the same guy. Additionally, in real life, actors have contracts that won't allow them to make certain changes to their hair so they can still play other roles. Which is why in Superman v. Batman Henry Cavill had to keep his mustache and have it removed with CGI. A lot of these actors aren't going to shave there heads for a couple of months of filming and now have short hair for the rest of the year. Especially characters who are in 1 or 2 episodes and only filmed their parts for 1 week.

A 16 year old parent in our time is considered scandalously young, but a 16 year old unmarried without kids in the sort of time period GoT is set in would have people questioning what is wrong with them and why they cant find a partner or have kids. - He is not a white walker. He is a wight (reanimated corpse), but is more agile and shows intelligence and can speak, meaning he's a special case.
      - Leaf says "they killed (Coldhands) a long time ago" while Benjen has only been missing for two years.
Either the Night's Watch killed the Night's King and the white walkers he used to consort with revived him, or the white walkers killed him and 3-eyed crow revived him.

And their only options would be to change the colour with editing (waste of money since it's not important, can be long, also it might not always look perfect) or lenses, which are often an issue in acting (actors can't support them or can't play well with them).
