      Thanks, glad you enjoyed! And I couldn’t believe the difference it made! Initially thought it might be more marketing than function, but no way. Absolutely massive difference that is immediately noticed, even when just pumping through the travel on a parking lot.
      Have to say, mullet is the way for me! I was worried they’re would be some negative consequences or that the hype wasn’t worth it, but with the Clash at least, it made all the difference and this bike simply wants to go fast at all times now.

    Fun fact with the clash, the frame protector closest to the BB has the same bolts as a water bottle mount. I put a fidlock bottle cage on my clash and the bolts are long enough to hold it and the frame protector perfectly fine. I've ridden it for a year and havent even had to tighten them so you've got nothing to worry about. Seen others do this as well. Hopefully this helps, cheers!

    I had a 21 clash and absolutely loved it. The missing water bottle mounts were its only downfall. Ended up swapping the frame out for a Nukeproof Giga. Very similar geometry and it's equally as awesome. I just mulleted it by swapping the 180mm Zeb for a 180mm Boxxer 29er, very similar A-C measurement and no loss in travel, it's even more amazing now!!

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 3 lety +1

      Wow, that’s awesome, thanks for sharing. Good thought with swapping to a dual crown to maintain A2C as well. Especially considering the beefy forks of today are getting quite heavy anyways (though they serve a great purpose).
      I can’t deny that the racer / closet weight weenie in me desires a lighter bike with similar geometry. However, I caveat that with saying I love the weight of the clash and it’s ability stick it out through any line I push it through. It’s impressive.

So is that little movement normal or not and if not do you have an idea where the movement could be?

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 2 lety +1

      Check your bolts for the shock and the frame. The frame bolts pass through the frame, so you’ll need to tighten with a hex wrench while holding another hex steady on the opposite side to prevent it from spinning

    Would you ever consider going to a fox 36 @170 mm travel? That’s like 13mm of height so would bring it back close. Gives you a bit more size drop from 38 to 36. I’m considering this option as I’m only 120Lbs so a 38 isnt really warranted if I’m not doing 180mm travel

  • @daggius
    @daggius Před rokem +1

    I compared axle to crown distance for a 130 mm 29 rockshox pike vs a 150 mm rockshox 27.5 pike and they are off by only 1 mm. It seems like you would need to reduce fork travel by 40 mm instead of 20 mm to maintain the same geometry of the bike then. Because the additional radius of the 29er wheel eats up another ~ 20 mm.

    What’s up man, so I’m currently running a fox 38 factor grip 2 on the clash 180 travel. I see it has 575.7 (axle to crown) length. On commencal’s website for the clash frame it says recommended axle to crown is 572-586mm so I am within that range. However, I picked up a 2022 fox 36 performance with a grip 2 160mm 44 rake and I see that it has a 571mm (axle to crown). Does that mean I just add an extra 1mm of spacing under the stem to keep it within that range that commencal recommends? Just want to make sure I’m doing this right, thanks !

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hey! I assume your 180 38 was 27.5 and your new 160 36 is 29? If so, your new setup will actually be longer than just 571mm A2C because you also add the additional length of half the wheel (about 20mm). So you’re good to go!
      Additional bit of info for you, adding spacers under the stem does not effect A2C. The A2C measurement is only from the axle, to the crown of the fork (essentially bottom of the head tube on your frame).

    • @JeepinIvan_MTB
      @JeepinIvan_MTB Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@GlobalTrailGuide yes correct to the dimensions listed, I totally forgot about the extra length of the wheel lol. I shouldn’t totally be set then! And yes, I thought about it after and change my spacers wouldn’t change the a2c. Thanks for the clarification!

    How does it climb? Definitely not trying to find a full climbing bike but if it doable for enduro races?

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 2 lety

      To me, the difference climbing is negligible. Basically feels the same 🤘🏼 this is primarily because the geometry is nearly unchanged. It climbs efficiently and comfortably, but at 37.5 lbs you’ll need some strength/fitness to lug this bike around for longer courses.

  • @pintospirits
    @pintospirits Před 2 lety

    I've been considering mulleting my bike. measured my front wheel next to a 29 front. both DT Swiss rims both with DHF on there was about 1cm difference in axle height.
    My 27.5 rim is 5mm wider internally could this account for the difference? either way I feel I could just drop to a 160 fork and all would be fine. I think there's alot of chat about how the bike is designed but theres a ton of variance in tyres in rims which will affect them.
    Thoughts?

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 2 lety

      You’re correct, even the variance in tolerances can play a factor between same rim and same tire. Both Fox and Rockshox list their fork axle to crowns as +/- 5mm, which is pretty crazy to me.
      One thing with your tires, are they both the same width? 2.4 and 2.4 for example. Because that will effect height as well of course

    • @pintospirits
      @pintospirits Před 2 lety

      @@GlobalTrailGuide Yeah both 2.5 DHF. 29 on 30mm internal, 27.5 (35 mm internal Gives a great profile at 35, 30 is to narrow for this tyre in my opinion.) I do own a 29er hard tail, but for feel its 27.5 its like I'm a bigger stronger dude and they accelerate noticeably faster. so not sure I should go mullet?

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 2 lety

      @@pintospirits all personal preference of course. But I’m fairly confident in saying that you’ll quickly notice the speed of the 29er rolling over chunk vs the 27.5.
      Now that I’ve spent even more time with this setup, I’m starting to get annoyed by my rear wheel getting hung up on things… haha. Almost as if the front is trying to go as fast as possible at all times while the rear wheel is getting pulled along against its will. However, I’m really digging the smaller rear wheel for quicker cornering (especially when racing enduro and not knowing where I’m going).
      So I’ve contemplated getting a Meta AM because the geo is actually pretty similar, but I’m worried I’ll lose that quicker cornering.

    • @pintospirits
      @pintospirits Před 2 lety +1

      @@GlobalTrailGuide Absolutely 27.5 at the bike park makes me think why would I change for bigger wheels but in the natural rough stuff its a no brainer.
      I just worry that a long travel 29 will kill all but the roughest trails. Plus my jumping and whips need work so, what to do?
      I'm not really fussed about racing but want the travel for big drop and compressions.
      I was looking at a meta tr like the look of them. Maybe high pivot mullet from deviate or acto five, but mega monies.

    I’m considering making 27.5 Norco sight 2018 into a mullet. It’s currently a 150mm pike and I’m thinking of putting on a 170mm but by the comments I might be too slack haha

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 2 lety +1

      😬 that will be an effective increase of 40-50mm - I wouldn’t recommend at all! Even if you did swap with 170 up front, you’ll still only have a mid travel bike in the rear. This modification would significantly reduce the performance characteristics intended for your bike. Enjoy as is, and start looking for other bikes if you want a longer travel mullet 😉 happy riding!
      PS. I used to have a Sight as well! 2017 C 9.2 29er.

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  Před 2 lety

      Ultimately it comes down to preference and your tolerance for affecting the factory geometry. Personally, I wouldn’t. But if I did, I’d only switch to 170mm if I was using a Lyrik or a Fox 36 (due to the shorter axle to crown than Zeb or 38).

    • @GlobalTrailGuide

      As a general rule of thumb for slack bikes, a lower offset number is preferred. So 44mm.
