I’m 35, single no kids. Currently living with my parents. Can’t afford a house with a single income and rent is out of control in NJ. Just decided to convert their large basement into a living area for myself. Now I can spend more time with them and also, get creative designing a nice area I can afford to live in. It’s tuff to survive alone these days. Very blessed to have this opportunity❤ thank you for making me not feel so alone 😊

31 no kids not married, just finished undergrad, starting grad in the fall. Moving back home feels like a step backwards but I’m continuing my optimism and growing within myself.
Sometimes we have to take a step backwards to go forward, congrats on grad school 🥳 we’ve got this! ❤️
I'm about to be 31 and I'm about to move out again....I need to own peace of mind and no I don't have anywhere to go but I'm trusting GOD

I hear and understand you but I was able to think, know, plan and execute what I wanted for my life when I was living alone so much better. Halfway thru my second degree (nursing school) I got very sick and eventually found out I had a rare cancer. The hardest part even to this day was my loss of independence and not being able to do what I want, when I want, where and with whoever I want without being interrogated about it. After my first bachelor's degree I moved back home shortly and my mother even blocked my car in multiple times because she didn't want me to leave to go to church. I quickly got it together to live alone. So recently I haven't been able to drive for four years but I hate it because it feels like she views me as a child. Anytime I'm on the phone with my friends, she questioning me about what we were talking about. If I'm reading a book she is questioning me about why I'm reading that. When I started to learn French and other languages, she calls it useless and questions me why I'm wasting my time with that. This has been the worst few years. Sounds like you have a much better dynamic with yours but I just kept shaking my head like that's not a good reason. I hope everything works out for you because most parents don't like to treat their adult children like adults.

Im doing the same. Toughest decision i ever made. Been living alone for 9 years and it will be tough. Thankfully the house is large and i have my own studio appt basically with my own entrance. I also will be abroad 90% of the time. Nobody got time to be paying these high ass bills.
Girl who are you telling! These crazy rent prices. It’s definitely an adjustment but it’s worth it in the end, you got this ❤️

I'm in my 40's never been married and no children. I moved back to my home town to temporarily live with my mom after 20 years living in Florida. It has been an ADJUSTMENT but I have been blessed to have my expenses cut in half and to be present for events. Currently, in the final stages of my PhD program and believing to establish a homebase whether in my current location or elsewhere. You are not alone and I have learned to Never say Never b/c you never know where God/life will take you. Tfs and continued success.

You all don't need to feel bad. I'm 64 and am going to move in with my little grandkids and their mother. Rent is just getting too expensive for either of us to live on our own. It is going to be a challenge at times. 2 unrelated adults, 3 young kids, and 2 cats. Oh my! We will figure it out and both of us will save money rather than forking over our last dime to a landlord. We've GOT THIS!
Yes we’ve got this! It is definitely an adjustment, but hopefully you can enjoy this added time with the little ones also ❤️
I’m packing up and doing the same. Rent is throwing away money. And most people can’t really save for a house when rent is always climbing in price. You had a brilliant idea and I will be doing the same very soon.

I’m about to be 22 and me and sister share an apartment and our lease ends in April and I honestly can’t wait to go back to my moms house because I feel more happier when I’m at my moms place and although it may not be happy times all the time, I would hate to not spend as much time as I can with her

Only people with parents, who have a big enough house or apartment, can move back in. And it also depends on where they live. If they live remote, where no work is around, why would someone move there? If I would have to, I couldnt and it would also kill my nerves (and theirs). I moved out when I was 17 (Germany) and even though thats so young, I felt it was long overdue but I love them. At 34 now, I cant imagine not having my own place. I would fall into deep depression, being back at where I started I think. But anyone who has a situation set up where it makes sense....go for it. US rent is probably totally nuts by now.
I don't know how the algorithm suggested this to me, but I'm glad it did. The 'living on your own construct' is contrived and unrealistic for young people with wages as low as they are. There is nothing to be ashamed about, you can spend time with your family and save money. Do you!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m doing the same. And I come from a culture where it’s normal to live at home until your married. I’m not doing it because I want to per se. I value the time I spend with my mom and I have been on my own before too. But it’s a multitude of reasons for me as well. I got out of bad relationship and have school loans and debt to pay off, cost of living is high, my mom has Parkinson’s, etc.
If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do working from home? My brother has been a RN for a long time and wants to get away from bedside care. It was never a good fit for him but is struggling to find other options out there.

You don’t have to explain. It is normal to live with the ones who birthed you, the only reason people feel like living with their parents is bad is because social pressure. Do what you have to do and embrace living with your loved ones

I actually sold a lot of stuff! And only kept a small amount of things ❤️
