    Great video. Thinking about getting one of these two pistols. I have Glock 43, 26, and 19 but I would shoot the 380 flatter rapid fire. The Underwood Extreme Defender in .380 produces impressive ballistics.

    Well "thinking" has cost me money once again 🙂 I bought the Glock 42. I went with the Glock over the Ruger due to the smaller size of the 42, the ability to pocket carry, and the fact I'm invested in other Glocks and very familiar with them. I think the Ruger is a better buy. Not only initially cheaper but good sights and trigger out of the box. The 42 has a very strong recoil spring assembly-too strong IMO. It took 300 rds and leaving the slide locked back for a week to get the 42 running well. I have complete confidence in it now and it shoot very well and amazingly accurate. For my purposes I am satisfied I made the right choice. I have the Pierce Plus One extension so that gives me a total capacity of eight. Not ideal but better than a five shot snubbie. If I have to go to war it will be with an AR, not a handgun 🤕 I was also very interested in the Sig 365-380 due to sights, trigger and capacity but I know and trust Glocks. BTW the video looks like you are not taking up the slack in the trigger before pressing the trigger to fire-just pulling through like with a revolver DA. If you take up the slack and then press to fire your one handed shooting will improve significantly.

    dang, this video is almost 2 weeks old and just now seeing it.
    the G42 is the first modern handgun I have handled/shot, first one I rejected, 2 main factors- the 'rental fleet' G42 ran like garbage, I couldn't get through (Im remembering) the 8 rd mag without a hiccup, and I got 'slide bite' during the 3rd mag, 50 rds in I was I was Done and over it.
    looking back, after you mentioned Glock has non-US .380s, for a hot second I though they might be better, All civilian Glocks only having a trigger safety....
    after owning a PDP for a yr, I Never got used to trigger safety Only
    after buying the Security 380, after people like you gave it good reviews, I was getting aquainted with the gun it has a 'party trick'
    kagain I'm used to old scool guns where the safety can be switched when ever)
    with the Ruger, the safety can only be switched on with a round in the chamber, I like the no round in the chamber, no need for a safety - extra layer

      That G42 likely wasn't cleaned in hundreds of rounds. Too bad that likely influenced the issues you were having.

    Nice comparison. If you've tried them, how do you think these two compare to the S&W EZ and the Sig Sauer P365 380? I'm waiting to pick up the Sig from my FFL, and already have 2 of the 12 round extended magazines for it. I've heard such good reviews on it and like that it's smaller than the S&W, but has more capacity than the Glock.

      Cindy hello! My advice to you is find a place where you can shoot and rent guns rent those 3 guns take some one who can teach to stand, how to properly hold the gun and overall how to shoot well ! after you shoot those 3 guns what ever feels comfortable to you go with that. I personally don't like cheap guns like the ones you mention is a reliability thing. I bet my life on a weapon that is reliable and proven in the battlefield Glock 43, sig sauer, Beretta and no safety pleased, that's just my opinion. Most importantly go practice a lot so you're comfortable with it Have a nice day.

    The Ruger does ok and I think is slightly better for a female shooter. I just don't like the trigger but it's not awful. As far as sound, I wear hearing protection so I can't tell a difference between them. I do like my sig365-380 a lot more then this Ruger and Glock.

  • @mikejmardis

    First off, the sig and others that you mentioned being double stack are not.
    They are stack and a half. You can get the 43, 43x and 48 with stack and a half with SA and others mags.
    The 42 meets a niche. Don’t test it outside of its realm. And definitely don’t compare its performance when you can’t perform at the weapons level. Of which, you seemed to have trouble with both.

    Thanks for another informative no-nonsense review! I'm going to buy one or the other, but it's going to be a tough decision...The G42 or the Security 380. I have extra large hands with extra long fingers, and Glock's blocky grips fit my hands well, but the G42 grip might not be blocky enough for me. I prefer the over all size of the G42 over the Security 380, how does your G42 feel with the Hogue grip?

    • @Th3BaconNation
      @Th3BaconNation  Před rokem +7

      On the very thin guns, unless I practice with them often, I have trouble getting a consistently straight trigger pull. I like the Hogue grip on the G42. For me it adds just enough to the grip size to where I can use a natural hold and get a straight trigger pull. It puts the G42 in what I'd call the Goldilocks zone for me.

    I have a g42 in my pocket 24/7 in a sticky holster. I have a ruger security 380 fun to shoot it does not like fiocchi 95 grain fmj. The glock so far will shoot anything. My carry ammo is federal hst 99 grain. Just about any ammo is good in a 380 aim for the lips.

    Can you speak to how quality the mags feel on the ruger? Saw a video on here that said the mag might have felt cheap or the follower was getting wear. Can't recall what video it was or exactly what it was about the mag that they had concerns about. Thanks.

      @Th3BaconNation  Před rokem +6

      I've had no issues with the security 380 mags other than I wish they were more plentiful in the stores I frequent so I could buy some local. I don't have a security 9, but the security 380 mags I do have look almost identical to the SR9c mags I've used for years with 100% reliability. I have no concerns thus far with the 380 mags.

      @@Th3BaconNation Thanks for the info. How's the recoil compared to the sr9c and do you notice much difference between the noise and muzzle flash between the two?

    • @Th3BaconNation
      @Th3BaconNation  Před rokem +1

      Security 380 has more mild recoil. I double up on the hearing protection every time we shoot, so it's hard for me to really comment on that. Everything is maximum loud at the indoor range and outdoor range with concrete barriers. Other than when reviewing footage it is rare that I notice muzzle flash from anything. Maybe occasionally with the Automag.

    I like and appreciate the review. I own both the Glock 42 and the Ruger Security .380. I am a senior with arthritic hands. I was hopping that you would compare the racking of each of the slides. I find the recoil of the Ruger to be more manageable, then it does have a size advantage over the G42.

    • @Th3BaconNation
      @Th3BaconNation  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Security 380 has a much easier to articulate slide compared to the G42, in my experience. I try and mention the easy rack nature of the security 380 when it comes up in our videos since this one as it is an important feature of the security 380, in my opinion.

  • @PatriotPaulUSA
    @PatriotPaulUSA Před rokem

    Smith & Wesson kinda started this whole "compact" size, Lite rack, 380 "thing". But Ruger has definitely made a better mousetrap in my opinion. Instead of the 6-8 rounds that the Smith and Glock hold, the Ruger comes with 10 & 15 round doublestack mags. Its a bit larger than the Glock but smaller L&W than the Smith. None of these are pocket or "Micro" size. The Ruger has the trigger dongle safety like the Glock, where the Smith has the Grip safety which is a huge miss. Especially for a pistol that may be used by elderly, arthritic, or folks with carpal tunnel issues, shoulder or wrist or elbow surgeries, etc. I heard of a guy with only 2 fingers that purchased a Ruger Security! If your shooting in awkward positions, grip safeties can easily, not be activated. In Self defense situations that could be deadly. $300.00 for a 10/15 round Ruger Security 380 is hard to overlook. The Glock and Smith are in the 500.00+ ranges. I had never considered 380's myself because I knew micro pocket pistols are great to carry, but are hard to shoot, and uncomfortable, and usually shot inaccurately because of those first 2. Until Ruger came around, this size 380, with 12-15 round capacity, was kind of owned by Bersa Thunder plus for many many years. I was looking at one of those until the Ruger Security came out. Bersa's are a bit sharper hitting they say with its fixed barrel, blowback slide and aluminum frame. I am seriously considering the Ruger 380 now. A holster isn't that much to deal with, especially with a pistol that is a joy to shoot.

      I think they have their pluses and minuses. As far as 380 goes, the glock offerings in the US are starting to lag behind, IMO. The recent talo releases I don't consider competitors in todays market. We need at least gen 5 versions with magazines found in most stores.
