On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of IL on 5-16-21.
We're looking at a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Split Window in Ermine White Paint. This car features a factory 327 CI V8 with 340 HP, and a factory 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Russ Toms. Russ has had this car since 2003. Tom shared he wanted to start a car collection, and why not start with a 1963 Split Window Corvette. Now that’s how you start a car collection!
ENJOY!
Geez Lou...you have the knack for finding the rare beauties. This care is stunning. Timeless.
Thank you Audie :-) I'm glad you're enjoying the selection of cars on this CZcams Channel. Lou
Best year of the corvette in history without a doubt
Winner :-)
A rich kid, got one for graduation. He tore it up in 6 months. So parents bought him a 2+2 ,421 Pontiac. I saw him, in the vette, run dead even with a 63,409, 425 ! Pretty impressive !
Hi Don, Happy to read this car brings back memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many cars on this Channel you enjoy! Please Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this CZcams Channel, Lou
A man and his classic car...a deeper and longer lasting relationship than some marriages.
:-)
It's just something about the red interior white exterior and solid lifters.
You're right. It's a good thing.
Russ has one fine '63 'Vette! Those 340 ponies sure can pull and I appreciated learning about the interesting issue with the original knock off wheels, too. Thanks for sharing Russ & his split window coupe with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, I was learning about the options too, and that is so much FUN :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
I'm 70 years old. The 63 split window coupe has got to be one of the most perfect aesthetic designs of my lifetime. Along with the XKE Jags and the Porsche 911 the spit window coupe complete a trilogy of sports car design with influence to this day.
Hi Tom, High praise :-) Please Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this CZcams Channel, Lou
Please remember to watch the commercials at the beginning of the video (or at least the ones you can), as that's how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you :-)
High compression, with solid lifters and a wicked exhaust note....that`s perfect ! I still have (from 1963) a pair of sterling silver cufflinks, nicely-detailed `63 split-windows in miniature....I am quite proud of them !
Happy to read "that's prefect !" :-) Cool cufflinks too, nice, Lou
Wow Lou,you've knocked it out of the park once again! IMO you're the Babe Ruth of automotive reviewers. Hats off to the owner of this timeless classic Corvette. This is the cream of the crop! Well done stay safe and have a gr8 God blessed day both of you.
Hi Paul, "IMO you're the Babe Ruth of automotive reviewers" NICE! Appreciate the high compliment. Blessings received, and God bless you too, Lou
Everyday is the “right day” for your videos of mechanical art. The car is flawless.
Hi Ron Official, High praise for the car that's "flawless" :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
OMG! this is my favorite car. 63, spit window sting ray, with white exterior and red interior. It's gorgeous! Not sure the 6/4 guy would fit in it, however. But one can dream.
High praise! Ohhhh, I'm sure we can squeeze you in :-)
"Everything was as it was purchased" says the owner - it just doesn't get any better, thnx Lou
High praise :-) You're welcome Dr. Candor
Lou. Another grand slam. What a beauty. Built by Americans in America. Not China. Thank you and God Bless all our veterans.
Hi George, High praise :-) Blessings received, and God bless you too, Lou
What a beautiful car, and it looks incredible for a 1963 car, ahead of its time.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Thanks for making my day better! It been one of them days! I needed to see this amazing car story. Your the best!!
Hi Miss Boss, Happy to read this one makes the day better :-) My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
This is the second best looking corvette year in my opinion. The split window design is just so stylish and it makes me wish that they did it with one of the modern ones. The white is such a matching color for this beautiful car.. Even the wheels are very fitting for the car.
Hi Holographic Pizza, Happy to read you appreciate the looks and wheels on this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. "NICEVET" Thanks Lou.
Happy to share this one motorTranz :-) You're welcome.
The Crown Jewel of Vettes. Thanks Russ and Lou. And special shout out to you, Lou with the inside view out back.
Hi Pat, Happy to share the view with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
One of the most beautiful designs of the automotive industry ever to be built. The profile of this car is both iconic and epic and definitely unmistakably stunning, and this one has the best wheel option!!!! This car looks wonderful from any angle and of course, the rear view with the split window is very special, I'm sure it's a view that most see of this car when it's out on the road. Lol. Proud caretaker of this beauty knows and Loves his car!!! Good one Lou, oh and ya just can't beat the classic color combination of the white exterior and red interior!!!! Beautiful!!!
High praise Hobiemarty :-)
That is just spectacular car 1963 Corvette -- WOW, what a true beauty .. color, design, wheels, interior-- I lived on a second floor house over looking the 95 highway and watched cars drive by from my second floor window at 19 Lawn Ave New Rochelle, NY -- the Corvettes was the most exciting looking cars that drove by and remember this car from the window back then around the year 1971 .. I was maybe 8, 9 years old then .. so many beautiful Corvettes back then !! thanks Lou
Hi Noel, Happy to read "That is just spectacular" :-) Thanks for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
What a beautiful, beautiful car.
As a young man, I drove around in a ‘66 with “only” the 300-hp, 327, and that car was a blast, even if it wasn’t the classy piece that this split-window is.
Love those old Vettes !!
Hi S King, Ahhh good times, good times :-) Lou
This is more than a NICEVET....it's an AWSMVET! Thanks Lou!
YAHOO! You're welcome Brian SD.
Absolutely stunning! My all time favorite Corvette..they're beautiful in white! This car has it all! Thank you Lou! Mr. Tom's has a gem
Hi David, Happy to share this "gem" with you :-) Lou

@@loucostabile : I’m a subscriber!👍🏼
I meant ‘think’ Vette...
Thanks Lou! I don’t know why I’ve never before noticed the similarity of the taillights and the crease above them to the Corvair’s of that era. What a perfect example of the iconic split window Stingray! Cheers, John from Ohio
Hi John, Happy to read the details you notice. Cheers, Lou
I have always loved the silver with the red interior, but this white & red looks amazing. The 63 Vette split screen must be the best ever…….magnificent in fact.
High praise for this color combo :-)
This is a really unique WOW car Lou. To think this automotive sculpture is almost 60 years old is beyond comprehension. Who'd pick a current Corvette over this super classic? The only thing is, I'd be afraid to drive it in traffic because you just know that one day some idiot is going to get their phone out whilst driving their own $hitbox and possibly create an unsafe incident. Thanks Russ for letting Lou record this for the Auto Archive.
Hi Mike, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this car for the "Auto Archive" with you, Lou
I got to enjoy a Corvette in 64, the most fun car I ever had the pleasure to drive.
Sounds GREAT! Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Coming from a Corvette/Camaro family this is a thing of beauty. There should be 10 foot solid bronze statues of two people right at the main entrance of General Motors Renaissance Center corporate headquarters in Detroit: Harley Earl and Zora Arkus Duntov.
High praise :-)
"Just wonderful" you said it, Lou! I have always loved Corvette's, especially pre-70's and the '63 is a favorite. For one it is the year I was born and it has some cool and unique features. This one is a beautiful example and I love the white with red interior. Thanks Lou!
Hi Blane, Happy to read you and this car have the same birth year :-) Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this car too. You're welcome, Lou
Lou, in the 71 year history of the Corvette, no design has ever matched the C2. Not to say that other designs are not great, but the C2 design has always been ahead of its time.
DJKhrome, C2 is a favorite design of mine too.
Thanks Lou. She’s a beauty!!! I ❤️ the Split-Window Corvettes. Such an iconic design especially how the doors are cut into the roof, which made entry/exit easier. The owner is one lucky guy to own a piece of Corvette history. Thanks for sharing!
Stay tuned Brenda S because I have one more for you :-) czcams.com/video/lzZ0_n_YyVY/video.html
This is the best gen of all corvettes. Next to the 63 the 65 and 67
are the most desirable years: std all disc brakes, opt fuel injection
and the refined body design. You knocked it out again Lou.
High praise for this Generation. Happy to read you enjoy this "Home Run" junkman :-)
hi Lou, now, THAT is a Corvette!! very classic and very collectible
Hi Mouse, NICE! My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
WOW!!! Woke up today to see a brand new 63 splitty video!!! Thank you Lou!!! Love it!!! Best Corvettes ever are the C2’s!!!
Hi Greg, Happy to receive a "WOW!!!" from you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Wow Russ.... you picked a winner with this "iconic" 63 vette !! The ermine white/ red interior is the ultimate color combo for me also. Always liked the knock off rims, too. So coool ! That's gotta be an expensive car to purchase for a collection... better bring a big bag of money !! Thanks Lou, I'll bet that was a fun ride !! Thumbs up!
Hi Kevin, Happy to read you enjoy this "iconic" car :-) Yes, a FUN ride for sure. You're welcome, Lou
Mid year Corvettes are simply the best!
:-)
1963, my favorite year for the Corvette. Very nice car !
Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-)
Lou this has to be one if not your best "stories" . First was the owner offering information on the unique wheels. Then you asked for the story on how he obtained the car. Then you focused on the really unique feature under the hood. Finally what better car than a 1963 split window Corvette with the 340 hp motor and 4 speed.
Hi Bill, Happy to read you enjoy this story :-) Thank you for sharing the details you appreciated in this episode, Lou
Please remember to watch the commercials at the beginning of the video (or at least the ones you can), as that's how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you :-)
63 was a classic year for cars altogether but particularly the Corvette

@@loucostabile Thanks. Also I like the white paint on the bodywork and the interior color red.

Agreed, the Care Taker has done a wonderful job of taking care of this car :-)
I've drooled on my computer screen.white w/ red,Kelsey Hayes knockoffs & 4 speed.WOW!

Thanks Lou great quest, he supplied a lot of good info about the 1963 split window model, interesting info about those Kelsey Hayes wheels .

Total eye candy and ear candy!!
Beautiful Vette with "the right amount of pedals"
GREAT VIDEO LOU.

That is one gorgeous car - I'm envious. Wanted one since I was a child.
Hi David, You have great taste in cars :-) Hope you're behind the wheel of the right one for you soon, Lou
Great Split Window in a Great Color with the best color interior.... They always look better with the knock offs... Thanks Lou !
Hi Uncle Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy this car, and thank you for sharing the details you enjoy. You're welcome, Lou
Goodday Lou,
The more I watch Corvettes on your channel the more you change my mind & the more I really appreciate a beautiful Corvette.
If this isn't the ultimate Corvette I would go hee.
Beautiful split window, more than 1 hp per cubic inch.
Knock off wheel & a dripping gorgeous red interior with the right amount of pedals.
Thank you for changing my mind tnis is what your channel is doing to me.
Cheers

Hi, Lou! If this is what Russ started his collection with, it would be interesting to find out what the rest of his collection looks like! I like that you were able to capture the rear view through that split window (at least what wasn't being blocked by the split, LOL!)
Tach it up, tach it up, buddy gonna shut you down! Thanks to both of you for showing this baby off for us!
Hi iswc27, " it would be interesting to find out what the rest of his collection looks like!" Well I'd hate to "SPLIT" up his collection :-) Stay tuned.... Lou
Love the split window coupe! Best Corvette ever!
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)
I like the 63s corvettes designs one of Bill Mitchell's best iconic split window coupe hands down
I agree :-)
Thanks Lou. I’ve always wondered why the ‘63 Vette was popular because of the split window but the ‘57 Olds and Buicks weren’t.
You're welcome zinc orbie :-)
One of my "Bucket List" cars!
Hope you're behind the wheel of the right one for you soon.
I have the same car, white red interior... except I have the 300hp 4 speed. Was like watching my car in action.. loved the video and great insight from the owner. Well done 👏

Extremely well preserved!!
Happy to read you appreciate the condition of this car :-)
My mom had a 67 split window that was in a pale blueish color that she called silver cloud.... she showed all three of her vettes (she also had an all red 56 and red and white 57 with the white done with crushed pearls) her silver cloud she put on a custom built turntable and put something called angel hair (vintage christmas stuff) around the car so it looked like it was floating in a cloud.... It was a beautiful site. I know the car was a special engine or something a 400 something or another.
Her daily driver was a burgundy 71 280SL
My dad drove a diesel sedan by mercedes and they had a formal car that was 67 Silver Cloud III in gold over black.
They also had a 300 gulwing at one point
Fond memories growing up...
Randolph
Hi Magnolia Emporium, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Moms car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Another classic! The plate is too modest - I would say it’s nicer than a “Nice Vette”. :)
Very nice split window- thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, A Care Taker with humility :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you and you're welcome. I'll share some good news, it's not hard to image that a person with a "Split Window" like this would have other cars, so I'm in discussion of more of his cars to share, so stay tuned.
@@loucostabile Looking forward to it!
Belleza! Este es uno de los Corvettes mas espectaculares que han existido. Además que, en esta versión, tiene el parabrisas trasero dividido, dándole un toque muy particular. Por último, esa combinación de colores en blanco con el interior como en rojo vino es soberbia... Saludos!
Hi Jaime, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
A split window Vette, ALWAYS COOL!! Thanks Lou!! 😎👍🏾🥳🤟🏾
Hi Gmoney, I'd agree, "ALWAYS COOL!!" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Iconic car! The rear end is so cool and sexy indeed! Nice drive, Lou.
Hi Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas , "Iconic car!" Well said. My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
I’ve owned my SWC since 1994 (second owner) 327/340HP (like this car) and never knew the story of the bad alloy wheels - and I thought I knew everything there was to know!

My favorite Corvette!
Winner :-)
Wow Lou this one was sure a honey! Loved the white with the red interior very sharp and I do agree this model year I prefer the coupe to the rag top as I love that split window in the back. That really sets the car off and it is my favorite year of that era. Just pristine in every way and sounded like a runner for sure. That ride along had to be a blast! A very neat owner too I loved his stories about the car. Thanks for sharing Lou this was a neat video!
Hi Steve, Happy to read you enjoy this "Honey" :-) Glad you enjoy the "split window" and I do too. Russ gave us all 340 HP, and glad to be able to take you along for the ride. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful split window.

Hammer video, Lou ! I like the classic Corvette... unique design and powerful engine .
Hi Robert, Happy to read you like this one :-) Lou
You can hear the solid lifters even in a slow drive by, that's cool! I had saddle tan in and out on my new 63 coupe, 300HP 4spd. My youthful indiscretion led me to sell it in 1977, a move I still regret.

My favourite Vette yrs are the 1963-67 Stngray Coupes. The knockoff wheels are also a must and a 4 speed transmission. I hooe he’s using oil with ZDDP in it for his cam.
Happy to read the C2 is a favorite for you :-)
Thanks, Lou & all... nice overviews of GM 1963:Stuff:: I have a memory of the **FI/375 In a **Red Coupe I seen early in 1963 , and it was loud and dramatic & could be heard coming (* and going) into our little WILMOT INDIANA , TOWN..!!!! ( a Neighbor’s Son had Corvettes , prob a 63FI....64,&a 65.).Anyways , the CORVETTES always exciting.....! Seems like we heard a lot about the 63-64s engines/ options/ build ups back in my Early Garage Days / CAR TALKS......ps, something about maybe OEM factory, ALSO.
Hi Opera, Happy to read this one brings back memories of the Neighbors Son's car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou

That's the best vette of them all

Another great video Lou love watching your channel
My pleasure sharing with you PlymouthDuster 225 :-) Glad you're along for the ride.
GMs changing of the gaurd occurred in 1962 when Bill Mitchell took over i remember reading that Zora Dontov did not like the split window and my father said that many complaints about the split window being more of an obstruction for many drivers all that aside I still like this iconic design it was a 1 yr only
