- Ben Hsu's collection of cars includes Corvettes, Porsches, an Ariel Atom track car, and a Chevy SSR. One of his most prized possessions his 1963 Split-Window Corvette Sting Ray. As a long time Corvette owner, Ben wanted a 63 and found this beautiful survivor on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The car was in good shape but Ben has restored this car in original, but better than new condition. The car has won many awards and Ben tells us the story and gives us a walk-around tour of the car.

Never saw it in gold! Pure class.
Thanks for watching.
It’s saddle tan.
My fave of all the Corvettes! 😍 ....For Christmas when I was a kid in the mid-1960s, my parents gave me a remote controlled Corvette Sting Ray toy car...I still have it and it still works. The car is detailed and in a dark navy color. Boy, I sure loved playing with it. You can make it go forward, backwards, or turn the front tires left or right, to make it go in circles. MY Mom used to get after me for chasing our cats with the car. They thought they could hide under my bed or sofa, but that Corvette flushed them out and the cats would come running out with their bushy tails...lol....On the remote, there is a horn button and a knob to turn the car's headlights on too. When I was little, I ruined a number of my toys by taking them apart to see how they worked, etc.. Glad I finally listened to my Mom who said to try and look after a few of them...and I sure looked after the Corvette. I may not ever be able to have the real thing, but to me, my toy one is priceless! : ) ....Loved the video and thanks to you and Ben for sharing this classic and story with us. I get those cool ICBC calendars every year here in Barriere, just north of Kamloops and love seeing all the classic automobiles and owner's stories in them for each month. I'm sure I saw that 'other' Corvette featured in the calendar a number of years ago. Hope Ben and the other owner do get together (if they haven't by now), for a photo shoot and story/video.....Cheers from the southern interior of beautiful British Columbia! : ) ....Will definitely sub and hit that bell too!😎👍
Thanks for sharing your story. Glad this video brought back some memories. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful 63!!!!! I ❤️ the split window, its the holy grail of all Corvettes. I own a 1964 Coupe and I love driving it.
Thanks for watching. It’s a great car and this one is a near perfect specimen. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I believe I saw a 63 Z06 Tanker at Bloomington back in the 90's. Really like this color.
It is a gorgeous colour and a really nice restoration. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful!
The '63 Corvette split window coupe is one of my favorite cars. My favorite color is Riverside Red, but I have to admit I like that color. I don't believe I've ever seen a '63 that color before. The '63 is a very unique car in many ways besides the rear window. It was almost a prototype. They changed hundreds of things on the '64 to make them easier to manufacture. This unfortunately makes the '63 almost impossible to get correct parts for, so many people use '64 parts on them.
Very true. Ben even talks about how many unique things there are on the '63 that make it about twice as expensive to restore. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful corvette, split windows are the most beautiful corvette built, this is the first time I've seen this color on a 63 corvette, love the color, hope you and your wife are happy with this beautiful car, like to know if I could have a picture of your car. Thanks for sharing this beautiful car.
Send me an email at bruce@directimpactmedia.ca and I'll forward it to the owner and see if he'll send yo a picture.
William Butler why not just pause and screenshot whichever view of the car you like the best and then enlarge it and print it? You could even take the picture to a copy and photo place and then have them make you a nice big glossy print of it... Getting the owner to email you a picture of his car isn't gonna leave you with anything at all that will be any better than what you could just have done on your own. Actually, odds are that any pictures the owner may have of his car that he took himself aren't even gonna be anywhere near as good a quality as the images professionally shot and presented here in this video...
In 1969 I had a 64 coupe in this color with a saddle interior 327 300 horse four-speed 66 big block hood factory a/c power windows knock off wheels. I paid 1450 dollars. Those were the days when it was just another used car lol.
Thanks for sharing. Glad you liked the video.
Great story. Hope the guy with the other 1963 reaches out to you. Be a shame if he (she) doesn't.
Good Luck.
SteveD
Back in the day we drove them like we stole them.. no one ever thought they would be trailered.. Interesting that they built more convertibles than coupes...
And to think, some people cut out the split. You never know what weird feature will make a car a unique collectible.
Coupe got close in 63 but didn't outsell the convertible until.69.
I saw one for sell on the side of the road listed for $10,000 in perfect condition about 40 years ago. I didn't have the money to buy it...but I really wanted it. So I asked my buddies to go in on it. We were all in college and poor...so nobody would.
Too bad we don’t have a crystal ball. Thanks for watching.
I've never seen one in gold before. I really like it! Gives a very classy look to a bad ass car!
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching.
@@CENTERLANE I had a '66 Corvair that was that color. Loved that car! Wish I still had it!
It's a great color for that car. It is amazing and a perfect paint job. Thanks for watching.
@@mrabaddon7712 I'll be the Corvair looked good in that color. Thanks for watching. Have you seen my episode on the Corvair? czcams.com/video/ffXgm7GTLZM/video.html
@@CENTERLANE No. I'll look that up right now! thanks
Love the car, it's beautiful. And I actually knew a guy that had a 63 that cut out the centerpiece to make it look like a 64 because he wanted to make it look newer. I was mad at him for being so stupid because I like the way the split-window looked... LOL
Karen, Thanks for watching my video and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure your friend kicks himself for removing the split. Hindsight is 20/20. I usually have a new video every week so please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already.
C2s are so beautiful
The certainly are! Thanks for watching.
My first ride in a Corvette was in one exactly like one! My dads friend got one in 1963 and came over to give him a ride! My sister and I said can we go too? Bob dais get in the back! My dad and I and my sister have owned one ever since! 👍🙋♂️🇺🇸🖖🏻
Monday, April 11, 2022, 2:29 p.m. - First time visiting your YT channel, I was sent a reference to this specific episode because I like this Sting Ray car year. However, I want to say I was blown away not only by this car but by the awesome, I mean really excellent video photo shoot angles your videographer took, kudos to that person, probably the best car video I have seen out of the hundreds I viewed on YT.
Don, Thanks very much for your feedback. I love getting messages like this because I put a lot of effort into these videos and I'm happy to know that is appreciated. I hope you have a chance to see more of my videos. Please like and share with friends. I haven't done many videos lately because I've been tied up with some projects but will have some new content out soon. Cheers!
I’ve seen pictures of one that’s sitting in a yard rotting away up there in B.C. I would love, LOVE to get my hands on it!!!!!! C2 coupes are my dream Corvette!!!!!! But I may never have enough money to get one! Such is the life of a struggling combat veteran.
I'm an old man now I'm 70 years old, Had A 63 split Window coup, Drove it like I stole it. Had to sell it when I got divorced💔
Really a beautiful car. I hope you can connect the two cars for a follow up video!
This episode did help to find the other car. Unfortunately the owner has since passed away.
That’s extremely sad!!!😭
You need to put the correct red painted valve covers on it IF it’s the 300 hp version ,as well as the correct factory style wiper blades. I have a ‘63 survivor ( untouched original). Whoever restored this car should’ve known that…what else is done wrong? Who knows
Beautiful 63, but they didn't have knock off wheels in 63
Thanks for your comment.
Always wanted one, and found one in 87 under an old oak tree and covered with a tarp. Stopped at the house next to it and the doors where open but no one home. Finally tracked down the owner and he said he had bought it to restore when he retired but hw would take 5k for it.. in those days, i barely made that much in 6 months.. needless to say, never got one.....
Great story Ben!
i wish he had more detail about the last owner. My sisters husband gave me a ride in ,what looks like his 63.His name was Brian Wright and used to own the Mai Tai restaurant in Duncan before it burned down.
That sounds right. I believe Ben found out the owner was from Duncan.
Man Oh man that is Super cool 😎👍!!
Thanks for watching.
good vid and great story
Thank you. I’m glad you liked the video. I have new episodes every week so if you haven’t already then please subscribe. Thanks for watching!
I like the color.
I agree. Is't a great colour for that car.
Remember oil with zinc like shell rotella
I want a 63. To me that is the best corvette ever. Sell this to me please.
This one isn’t for sale by I know of one that I believe is for sale. If you are truly interested then let me know and I’ll introduce you.
The gold is nice
2023 All 1963 Style Corvette Split-Window Should Have Rear View Mirror Camera Screen Like the Land Rover Defender 110.
That would solve the problem! Thanks for watching.
@@CENTERLANETouche' (smile)
Beutiful car I hope you checked the frame they can be completely rusted out that old😅
Just put a camera on the rear that would solve your problem., by the way it a nice car
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video.
Great video.
I agree, the gold initially was a turn-off for me. Might it grow on me? Don't know.
Thanks for watching Don. I can say that the gold looks fantastic in person. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
350k+++.The sky's the limit!
There is no end to the money you can spend restoring these cars. It's good that there are people willing to do it. Thanks for watching.
About the color...
The silver and gold colors...!
Why are thay special in 63???
Thos colors were important and popular because they represented the space race... The race for the first man to walk on the moon!!!
Its a good thing he restored it in this (Space aged color)
The origionality increases its value and again
It represents NASA the race to space🌙🌙🌟🌟🌟🌟
Just put a camara on the rear ., that would solve the problem., nice car.,
You don't like the color??? This car could have been James Bond ride in goldfinger enjoy your trip Mr b o n d in a 1963 gold corvette
Nice but not the holy Grail of Corvette's 60 or 61 Holy grail Years
This guys outfit. My god. Trying hard to outshine the vette.
I had two 63 split windows. Pure junk. They should remake them.
Would have been even better if it was out being driven. Cheers
I agree! That’s the problem with shooting in the Winter.
@@CENTERLANE hadn’t thought of that. In New Zealand the winters are mild. Cheers
@@darlingfashion1387 it is mostly mild here too but often wet and cars like there are quite often not insured during the winter.because people only want to take them out when it’s nice. Glad to know you’re watching all the way from New Zealand. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more episodes. I put out an episode every week.
If u like raw smelly cars than this is it
love the car and that year, but damm GM, why, why that poop brown!! that's the worst color to ever be put on a sports car, PERIOD
Nice, but not the RFI 360 HP.
Drive the crap out of the car and stop being so paranoid about possibly getting a chip or scratch in the paint. If it were original paint then I could see your point.
I can attest to the fact that Ben takes the car out and drives it. He is very careful with it though. Thanks for watching my video. I usually have a new video every Wednesday so please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already. Cheers
Get your hand off of his car, you should know better
Should have driven the hell out of it and enjoyed it before restoring it. Now you have a nice car which should be driven to be truly enjoyed but it sits in a garage. I could never own a car I could not drive. That's what cars are for. Beautiful color. You only live once. Start driving it. I would.
He still does drive it...just not very much. This guy has so many cars that he has many other choices. Thanks for watching.
@@CENTERLANE Try watching the video again. I am commenting on exactly what he said. He says he regrets not driving it enough before the restoration and now doesn't want to drive it because of the restoration and doesn't want to damage the restoration.
@@freesoul3371 that’s true that he said that but I’ve been to events that he has brought the cat to. So he doesn’t drive it much, he still does take it out.
@@CENTERLANE Yes he said he drives it occasionally but rarely "because of the restoration". CAPICHE?
I don’t believe those are the correct valve covers. Should be non casted orange.
You are probably correct. The car wasn't restored as an original restoration so I'm sure they took some liberties. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful!
