I packed up my kitchen for 21 days, here's what I actually used

- I boxed up everything in my kitchen for 3 whole weeks. Inspired by the Minimalist's, I tried their extreme method of having a "Packing Party" to see what I ACTUALLY use in my kitchen and what is just simply taking up space.
Did you know that I also tried minimalism for a month? ⬇️

What wonderful memories you are making with your mom and grandma!! Your husband is definitely a keeper for putting up with all the challenges you are testing for us! Thank You Family!
Though they may be driving him a little crazy 🤣 I'm taking a little break from extreme challenges lol
This is beyond awesome! And I don't mean the boxes. The memories made are worth more than anything in them! Great video ladies ❤🎉🎉 Party on!
He is benefitting from it majorly. You are less stressed from organizing things and cleaning things you don't even use this often, your mental health is much better after these challenges, your baby has a more relaxed mom, if you enjoy cooking more the food gets more love. And I could come up with many more reasons. ❤
I loved your mom dancing back and forth in front of the camera with a scrub brush. I can see where you get your dance moves. Three generations of the That Awkward Mom. Love it!
That had me laughing so hard 🤣
Me too! 😂
I was coming here to make sure this was said!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😄😍😄😍😄😂😂😂😂😂😂
I could see my mom doing this with me. Your mom and grandma made me smile. They are wonderful people.
Four generations if you count the baby😊 She made a cameo appearance.
I did not realize that Party People was an actual gene, but by golly y’all got it! Great video, and what a fun time with your family!
Lol!
It’s easy to see where your goofiness comes from! Definitely my type of party!
It’s so fun how much you, your mom, and grandma enjoy spending time together! And their willingness to help you and be silly with you was precious!!! Great motivating video, too
Every word you said is absolutely true! I see where the girl gets of spunk!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 what a cool group of ladies and now we got the baby 👶🏻 too!
Ariel, I woke up at 3:30am for the second night in a row with a racing mind due to a very stressful current life situation I’m dealing with. After over two hours of being awake, I decided to bust out CZcams. It wasn’t until after this video ended that I realized that I hadn’t thought about my stress even once while watching. You are such a delight! Thank you for the lovely content.💗 thanks to Mom and Grandma too!🥳🥰🤗ok I’m gonna try to sleep again
❤❤❤❤❤ I've been having insomnia. It's terrible!!! 😢
I love how willingly your mom and grandma participated - it didn't seem forced or weird, just natural. What a fun family culture!
A few of the big CZcamsrs make videos showing us all the kitchen items we "need" from Amazon (with links so they get a commission, of course). Instant Pot, air fryer, rice cooker, popsicle mold, watermelon slicer, various strainers/colanders, freezer bag clips, etc. All of this takes up SPACE and probably rarely gets used. And if they DO get used, it's probably just because it's "there", but you could certainly live without it.
I love how your grandma and mom just are down to help with anything you need and have a fun time doing it.
I absolutely love having you contribute to the CZcams universe! Great video. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Wow, the genetics run deep in your family!! None of you could deny who your relatives are!! So great to see you all having such fun! Those memories are priceless. Much love xx
I LOVED seeing that! An incredible group of ladies 😍
I can’t wait until we see 4 generations of you ladies dancing! Ice cream pong looked so brilliant too. Next time there is a party I hope to get invited!!!! I love this concept for my living room. It feels out of whack and neglected. This would help me see how we really use the room. You make the most most helpful and encouraging videos. Thank you💚
I have wanted to do this for YEARS.
I want to think of myself as being as cool of a grandma as yours!
She is pretty awesome!!!!!
Lol the 2 blinks with sound! Loved it lol
I knew I loved your humor and that's why I watch your videos...but I love your mom and grandma too. Y'all are a perfect trifecta.
4 generations sitting at the table together ❤️ & cool 😎 minimalist party ;)
We just moved a year ago so living out of boxes makes me want to heave 🤮 but man am I proud of you. Always teaching us. ❤❤❤
Generations of adorable funny people
That party looked too fun! You never go wrong with mom and grandma.
Love how close you are to the women in your life.if the people you want to hangout with is your mom and nanna your life is a huge sucsess
After your last video I put a TON of stuff in boxes labeled. "Once a year" and "seldom" in my garage it was SO freeing.
TREASURE these moments. My mom and grandma have passed. I missed them so much! These moments are what life is all about.
I love your humorous ways. Crazy party, ladies, four generations ladies! Love ya.
I'm doing this unintentionally in my bathroom. I had some major work done a few weeks ago, and had to take everything out. I'm now only putting things back as I need them.
I think it's finally time to say goodbye to the bubble bath I was given over 10yrs ago that I've still not used! xx
It’s really cool that you try out all these painful challenges and then show us the results. We don’t have to go through the pain of trying them all - just pick the one we think we can do and will help us reach our goal. Must say though that you have a very understanding partner
Yay! Awkward Mom video-great way to start my weekend of decluttering!
Two minutes into your video, and I had to have a good cry. My own mother would never do anything like this with me. But then they turned onto tears of joy, knowing that my mother-in-law and her mother would be so into this. Heck, they would be happy with anything that involved a pizza party and being silly even though they are 72 and 93!
❤️❤️❤️
I also got emotional. My mother would have ridiculed me if I had so much as suggested she do anything like this with me, much less supported me as a minimalist. 💔
I love the 4 generations of your family sitting at the table to eat! If you continue living out of the box for another few weeks it will probably open your eye to even more items you can live without. 😊
You, your mom, and your grandma are great 😊
You have reminded me that this is the very best way to declutter. I love the Quarantine Box - ingenious. Having recently packed my entire kitchen into boxes, just as you did, to fit a whole new kitchen, I am in the perrrrrfect position to only put things back into the kitchen as I need to use them. They will be earning their right to live in the kitchen! Thanks for a great, and perfectly-timed, video xx
I really admire your willingness to try things like this and to not worry about what people will think 😇 and your family is amazing!
What a cute video. I loved the pizza guy….ha ha. Your mom and grandma were great. We can see where you get your fun personality. One of the plus things of doing this is it gives you the chance to really clean the kitchen. All the nooks and crannies. I bet you do feel like a million dollars at the end. I kinda want to do this with my wardrobe.
Your mom and grandma are a hoot!😂
Fun 😆 but rather you than me! 😆 I wouldn’t pack up my whole kitchen - the practical part of me knows I’m going to use the plates, spoons, certain pots, etc so why fuss with them - but I’ve come around to the idea of a quarantine box. It’s especially helpful for things I don’t think we need but hubby doesn’t want to get rid of. They’re still around but not in my way. And after a few months/years of never touching them, forgetting we own them, it’s easy to let them go. I have other smaller spaces that might benefit from a packing party though.
I applaud you for doing this challenge 👏👏👏. I don’t think I could do it, especially with a baby! Y’all are too funny 😂
*Some Favorite Clutter-Clearing Tips:* 😃
- Using a timer for 5 to 15 minutes of clutter clearing plus "temptation bundling" with something I already enjoy and do regularly afterwards (like watch CZcams or TV ; - )
- The Onion Method of getting rid of easiest things first
- Understanding the Silent To Do list and how GREAT it feels to get rid of things that send negative messages (a gift from a judgmental relative, clothes that don't fit, projects that never got done and just aren't important...)
- LOTS of ongoing before and after pics to remember progress, plus looking at the photos instead of the actual room to more clearly see what can go (weird, but it helps!)🤓
Great tips! 👍🏽

An Ariel video always makes the day better. ❤️ I love that you showed these challenges in a realistic way, and you're honest about what does and doesn't work for you. Much love to you and your family! 🌹🥰❤️
I have struggled with my pottery bowl fetish. I loved my heavy blue bowl, every morning it held my breakfast. The pretty bowl was used for candy. so delicate, i was afraid to actually use it, (and i don't need the.candy anyways.) Another was used by my husband. Never mind the eight corning ware bowls that came with the dish set. Then, it happened. My blue bowl broke. Whatever would I use. It was like the lightbulb came on. Use the corning bowls for goodness sake. I will soon declutter the three heavy bowls I reserve for chili. because the corning bowls work just as well! So that is the game I play, "if I don't have this, what else can I use?" "If I don't have this chopper, what can I use? A knife!" Gone is the chopper, same with the bundt pan(sorry Dawn), A 9x13 is more useful.
You are a hoot. Keep up the great videos.
The bowl dance was *chefs kiss* perfect!
I loved this! You three are so clearly related and it was so fun to watch, haha. 😂🥰
Love seeing the party with your mom and Grandma! Pizza and ice cream, you can’t beat that! 💛
The deep joy I felt watching you interact with your mom and grandma, it almost made me cry. ❤️❤️ You are all blessed to have each other. And another box of stuff gone! Yay!
Yes! I have been pairing down and getting rid of so many things in my kitchen. I have so much storage space that I don’t even need anymore but just life in general is so much better with fewer things.
The three generation relationship and bond.. absolutely priceless. I also see fourth generation is on deck. Skyla is so cute. I loved watching this ❤
I absolutely love this video. Now i know that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. This was such a fun video.
I know the feeling of doing a purge or running my stuff through some filter like: “ Would I buy this item right now, in its current condition?” Or the current one, “spontaneous combustion cleaning” and the more we weed out, the smaller the piles. I have been debating on a packing party, and I might do one more like this. Thanks for the inspiration!!
That’s a cool concept, and a practical idea. Maybe I’ll try it with one book shelf… that is 75 percent full of other stuff besides books.
I see we have the same bookshelf 😮
@@jocelynsmyth6604 😮
Ha! I watched this while taking a break from decluttering 2 bookcases behind my sofa. The bottom 3 shelves of each were stuffed with what all. There are 3 big boxes over in the far corner and I don't know what is in 2.
@@carolbabb7875 Sounds about right.
The dance with your mom and grandma with endless coffee 😂❤ I loved it so much!! ☕️
I lost my fiancee in February 23. In March i decided to sell my house. I packed everything up but kept just a few things. It is now September, still waiting for the house to sell, and i have not missed a thing i packed up. I have not taken one thing out. I love that i have no clutter, no rummaging for something behind something else. Im 56 yrs old and grew up poor but had money at one time and bought stuff. Now i love they person ive become and how i want to live. Now , my quilting room is a different story. I didn't pack anything..yet. but i work in this room , i close the door 😂😂. I love your videos and personality Thank you
I’ve just realised I’ve been doing this basically for the past year. I’m a university student in dorms. I have these plastic boxes under my bed when I moved in with all my bedroom/bathroom stuff in. If I need to pull it out of the box - it’s gets a home on in my room/bathroom. And each term/semester I go through the boxes of stuff I haven’t used and see if it’s worth keeping. And then I reset for the next term.
It was so fun watching you, your mom and your grandma clowning around and having so much fun! I did this method, too, and found that we actually don’t need so much. Hugs!
You are so ambitious. I am way to lazy to do that, but love to watch you do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are sooooo entertaining!!! Thanks for making me smile
😂 you guys are golden!! Loved the ice cream pong
I'm shaking at the idea. 😂
ETA- Are you trying to tell me I don't need 12 cake forks at the ready? I wish that was a joke. 😅
I don't think anyone would abandon you if you branched out from cleaning. We're watching you're crazy antics more than your message on how to clean. Fun video. Enjoyed it.
This was the best video…I love your mom and grandma…and you too!! I only boxed up my utensils and wow, what a difference it made. Not sure I could do the entire kitchen…but I love the concept. My next task is to do a full inventory of my pantry, fridge and freezer. As I go through everything, I’ll write the expiration date on the containers so it is easy to see, plus move all the almost expired foods to the front for first use…I do look up how long we can keep foods past their expiration date, in case I find some expired food - hence the need to write the expiration date on the containers. I will combine all of items into one list, sort by expiration date and waa-laa, I will have the beginnings of my meal plans for the next month or so.
It's worth the work and you'll save money too.
What an awesome trio of ladies! It made me sad I wasn't at the packing party.
Your mom is the queen with that dish scrubber!
I’m 27 seconds into this video and Im already mad at myself for not doing this when we moved into our house 3 weeks ago. 😭 lol
I love these people!! Especially the mom dancing around with the…toilet brush? Dish scrubber??
I can see where you get your sense of humor from. I love it
4 generations 😂amazing
My favorite laugh out loud moment was when Grandma said "that's all you're putting in that box" and the look on her face like Ariel was nuts 😂😂
Your Mom and Grandma seem super fun!
My grandma was a nasty woman. My mom is a sweet heart but has been so disabled for so long. And of course there is the endless fallout of divorced parents. You are more blessed than you will ever know. The truth is having the relationship with your mom and grandma like you do is the way its supposed to be. Cherish it and honor them by doing the same thing as you move thru the generational positions.
can see where you get your sense of humour from LOL. love your mom and grandma
I always want to declutter my kitchen, but when i come to I end up putting them back into place. Finally I noticed that my kitchen is faar too small for a 4 person houshold, and having a lot of seasonal things I need only on occasion I learned to embrace the situation 😂🎉❤. By the way, there is no extra storage for the kitchen or even a basement.
4 generations, of ladies, clearly having fun! That's the true blessing in this video
... baby to great grandma! My Grandma never met my baby!
Its like putting all your clothes back into your wardrobe coathanger facing away. Then as you wear them, they go back after laundering coathanger facing towards you. Actually shows you what you actually wear after a couple of months. It works.
Thanks for trying this. I find this method rather extreme. I don’t own a massive amount of stuff. But for example I really enjoy and use every Christmas a special cup and plates set and find great joy in them. I like looking at them during the year in my cupboard, even if they take up some space. 🎉🎉🎉
Yes, I don't get the "rules" that if something I do enjoy like event dishes, or an item of my dear late grandfather, is to be gotten rid of to live in a sterile IKEA box!
@@joywebster2678 exactly
I don’t think she got rid of everything she didn’t use, it was just more info to see what wasn’t used often to make a decision about what could go.
@EE-lb6jr I was referring as I said to the rules of minimalism not this woman in particular.
I love that your mom and grandma are willing to be in these videos and your baby! Priceless pizza scream!
Y'all are absolutely hilarious!!!
I love your family in the videos! All of you girls looked like you were having fun together ❤
Sweet! You, mom & grandmom and awesome. As my mom says, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree so You three make a lovely fruit basket! Keep up the good work sweetie, loved this challenge
So I have been friends along time with your parents and aunts. I love how you include your mom. ❤
U have great videos for me! Thank you for making these. When my children were grade schoolers I finally made peace with my hoard of gift mugs. I was a neuroscience nurse so some mugs were in the shapes of brains and hearts and all of them were ugly. But none matched. So a yard full of kids, some of their caregivers and a sprinkler running made “ my cup” easy. People love picking out their own ugly mug for the day and unless it breaks there’s no trash to pick up. As your babies grow you will possibly need to make peace with enough gift mugs to use for little gatherings:)
This was such a fun and interesting video to watch. It mad me miss my mom and grandmas so much too but in all honesty, none of them would have been dancing with me. Lol. 😂 Thanks for another great video. Love your channel.
I swear I lost it when y’all started dancing🤣🤣🤣hilarious. Loved the ping pong ice cream game. We will definitely be playing this at our next family party. Love your channel. The baby is so cute too❤
I came for the challenge and stayed for your mom and grandma!! O my goodness you are too funny!! 🤣🤣🤣
I adore the relationship you have with Mom and Grandma ❤ You are. Blessed woman, indeed ❤
You are a legend and a hero, ma’am!!!
Girl you are amazing for trying this, I think it would make me insane to live out of boxes for weeks and not sure hubby would put up with it 😂😂😂😂
Ariel, you throw my kind of party! 🎉 Ice cream pong?!? Ridiculous yet awesome, i.e., classic Awkward Mom. ❤❤
I did this with my closet and drawers. I put EVERYTHING I owned into a pile in an empty bedroom. Every sock, underwear, shirt, dress, skirt, pant, sweater, sweatshirts, yoga pant. Also non clothing... every nail polish, shoe, slipper, crappy jewelry, scarf, purse, wallet. I pulled from the pile to use-wear. As I laundered or used, I put it back. My closet and drawers are minimal and beautiful. The dumping room is still a mess though. Lol. I've started just sorting to donate or toss.
Good job! I have also simplified my kitchen. It's amazing. I will never go back
thanks for the video ❤ just noticed the new back ground, its super cute!
I wish I could’ve come to the partay!!! I need to try this.
HILARIOUS! The three of you are gold together!
You and your mom and grandma are so cute!
Omg... How precious. Thank you for 5he ideas!!! And party games.
I've been waiting for this one! Also I love the navy blue wall you have been filming in front of. You inspired me to paint my home many shades of blue and I love it!!
Blue is the best!!!
I love watching these challenges on your channel. Knowing my own journey over the past 8 years, I think it’s something we build on. We start small and then over time, it’s just easier to declutter a little more over time. My home has just continued to become a place I love and enjoy the more I become intentional in what I keep. Every-time I think there isn’t anything I could get rid of, there is always a few more things. It is a process.
Everytime I watch a minimalism video, I find a box of items to remove from our home. Keep ‘em coming!!
Perfect timing.
Can you show a before and after of the cabinets? That single mug on the entire shelf was eye opening! I imagine ours may be similar.
Yay! I’ve been waiting for this video ❤
Love your content ! AND ,What a lovely momma and G’ma you have.
This was fun and inspiring ❤
You ladies are awesome ❣
You all are so much fun!
