- I admit, not a lot of appreciation for this fujifilm camera on CZcams. So I'm here to educate you guys on the beauty that is the PASM dial on the X-S10.
More specifically, I'll go over the custom C1-C4 and give a general explanation on how it works and how to use.
For those of you who are wondering how to find that dial icon at 3:30
go into menu - IQ settings - edit/save custom setting - edit/check setting - select the custom slot
Hope this video finds its way to those who need it. For those who don't, a little bit of appreciation on my acting ability would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for watching!
If you've watched this video and want to know how to find that dial icon at 3:30 please refer to the description box.
Got to love the real world examples @6:22 😂 Thank you so much for your helpful video mate!
I really appreciate these xs10 tutorials! I’m a beginner and these have been so helpful
Thanks Jay, I would very much appreciate more x-s10 tutorials as there is a paucity of information on this camera
Thanks Chris, I will do my best to cover more of this camera in the future.
It's so wonderful to see your post. As always, pack full of excellent information. Thanks Jay! :)
Thanks as always Lucy!
Finally a good explanation of video settings behaviors while shooting in custom modes.
Oh!! Yes! I needed this tutorial! Thanks!😘
Just got my first fujifilm after 10 years I didn’t buy a camera, and I got this one after t o n s of research. I love this camera 🥰
Glad you find this camera right for you!
Same, it is perfect
I have several Fujifilm cameras, including the x100v, but once I got the x-s10 it quickly replaced all of them. The greatly extended settings options for the C1 to C4 are a game changer, and I immediately miss them when I use the X100v, x-e3 etc. Plus the x-s10 has a great grip and a proper, big AF-ON button for back button focusing. Love it.
The xs10 is underrated, I’ve programmed the left dial to be ISO to make changes quickly. I do wish however we could set the front command dial to ISO
Hey can you let me know how to do that? I can't find the setting to assign ISO to any dial :(
I’ve got the XS 10 and I do love it I know it’s a little bit of a shift away from the traditional Fuji film setup I get that. But I kind of like it and I like the fact that this camera is a little bit different to the other Fuji cameras.
Thanks for this. Until your video, I've considered the PASM a shortcoming of this camera. Now, I see it's possibilities.
Didn’t know I may have needed another Fuji camera…
Thanks brother 😏
Can never have enough Fuji cameras :)
thank you so much for this! This video is a godsend. Now I can confidently use my xs10 quickly. subscribed!
Great, great video. Thank you. Can I ask, can the rear dial be assigned to Exposure Compensation if you're in Aperture Priority for example?
I just bought my XS10 and I’m loving it! Still trying familiar with it but I am loving the customizing options and exploring creativity with the different film simulation modes. I’ve yet to try it for video but I welcome any tips.
I’ve just brought mine yesterday and trying to do the same man. Any tips?
thanks a lot for this clear video. I'm a new sx10 owner and love it, coming from the xt20. I cannot find how to customize the dials on the camera especially the right hand ones, the front dial on the grip does nothing. the left dial has onky simulation change default. Could you explain that in a video, or in answering this comment please?
Hey Jay,
you nailed it! The extended possibilities to customize your user profiles on the X-S10 are gorgeous!
You also can choose different focus modes like AF-S on C1 and AF-C or even MF on C2. This comes so handy and lets you react to the scene so quickly!
To check for the profile names you can simply push the C button as on the X100V but I never had a problem to remind my 4 settings as:
C1: Everyday slow
C2: Everyday fast
C3: Landscapes
C4: Black & White
Great video and thanks!
Solid stuff Kamil! Everyday slow sounds a bit like my life right now not going to lie xD
With small kids the slow and fast setting helps me a lot to get a nice shot in every situation.
I also keep my minimal shutter speed at 1/60 on slow and 1/250 on fast to get away with a lower ISO if there is only "slow" movement.
I love my X100V but my X-S10 is so covenient in that way...
Jay, faster days will come for sure!
Cheers an best wishes :-)
I really don’t get the “hate” the x-s10 gets, it’s a great camera… I went from the x-t30 to this recently and love it.
I wouldn't say it's hate, I think it's just a mentality that's hard to change. I just hope the X-S10 community or rather the Fujifilm PASM appreciation community finds this video and feels a little love xD
This is my current Fuji camera. I am down to one. I have sold my other cameras. I think the best Fuji camera was the XT3. But for myself I find the X-S10 to be the camera for me. It is good enough for what I want to do. Yes there are things that I wish it had but that has been true of every Fuji camera that I have owned. PASM doesn’t bother me. I have used it before. Right now this the camera for me. I won’t upgrade or change unless Fuji comes up with some new hardware like sensor or processor upgrade. I have always wanted an APS-C camera with a stacked sensor.
@@JayRegular yeah i Don’t mean literal hate, that’s why I put in quotation. But it seems to be a bit of “dislikes” against the PASM around, that it’s not “pro” enough or whatever… but yeah, keep up the great work with your videos :D
You can try out the xt30, the xe4 or the xs10 and see which one you like
I have the xt30 and ı dont didnt like the xs10 at first but now that ı saw the dials ı think they are more practical. it is hard to like something you didnt choose hehe
Really well explained Jay 👌I really like that little X-S10 bastard i just wish they would copy the GFX dial 1:1 with more custom settings.
I really would have loved an e-ink top display like the gfx too 😋
Nice video. I feel an irresistible urge to like and subscribe... I wonder why... Anyway, here's a simple tip for remembering the basic characteristics of the four custom setting packages: a small Post-It on the back of the camera, under the flippy screen.
1:45 that's the thing i am more concerned about. Does X-T series have an way to store settings like C1 to C5 in X-S10, coz often times it would come in hand especially while shooting wildlife then switching to shoot landscape, portraits or other scenarios.
I’m might be but what is the setting for shutter speed labeled? I’ve been trying to add it as a dial
Coming over from the X-T20... could I use the C1-C4 positions on the PASM dial to do the drive modes of CL/CH/BKT1/BKT2?
Never personally tried, but I don't think you can. Might have to test it out
Why don't I have the lens icon that allows me to alter the custom settings? Any help would be appreciated, it's just not there on my x-s10
Can you change the front dial to iso settings?
Hi Jay, just got my X-S10 and put some film recipe/simulation on my C1 and C2. When I shoot on those settings, there's always a "Storing" and loading after I shoot a photo. It doesn't happen when I'm on M settings. How I stop that? Is there a setting for that? Thank you so much!
Check to see if you have made any adjustments to clarity in the iq settings
It’s a great camera. No need to say more.
Could you please please share yours C1-C4 settings?
Thank you for your interesting video! I just bought this camera! Can you Can you explain to me why the flash incorporate in the camera only works in customisation -C2-C3-C4 and in the first one it doesen't work. It doesen't even work in manual program - in diaphragms priority-in time priority. Also in the first customisation I entered negative classic but clarity doesen't work! I apologise for my English...Please can you help me??!! I don't know how to resolve..! I didn't find anything in the manual. Thank you if you answerme! Roberto
Sorry Roberto, I'm not quite sure there. Make sure you are not in burst shooting mode and your Autofocus mode is not AF-C
@@JayRegular You're right, that was the problem!!! Thanks a lot, Roberto
dem scrub photogs ahahahaha great vid and great catch of my friend
haha it's truly a small world out there!
At 3:31, you get a dial icon on your XS10. At no point does this icon appear for me, hence I can't customise the shooting options further. Any chance you know why that is so? Terrific video, very useful while setting up the camera. Cheers.
I have the same problem. There's no such option. Please could you answer how/where to find it?
please refer to the description box
Is there a function to press a front or rear dial and switch its function to ISO?
I usually shoot full manual, controlling ISO with the wheel, using up and down bottom isn't for me.
If it's possible, can the same be done with the other dial to change the WB?
No, unlike the X100V you cannot set that feature because the dials cannot be pressed down. You have to press the ISO button then use the rear command dial to cycle through the values. If you want to set white balance, there is a button next to the eyepiece, press it to cycle through the white balance options.
@@JayRegular thank you very much for your reply. I will have to try and find out if I can get used to it... or maybe wait for the x-h2!
Hey, 3:30 : Is there a reason why I am unable to see this dial in my custom settings? Because I cant see this section in the xs10 menu, I cant select the shooting mode for each custom dial. When I click in the menu setting for the select custom dial, I only see a greyed out space where you have the option to select the shooting mode.
go into menu > IQ settings > edit/save custom setting > edit/check setting> select the custom slot
am i bugging or did you miss out custom 3 and 4 settings? I was looking forward to see how you get those nice B&W settings.
I'll be doing a separate BnW video in the future
3:40ish... I don't see that dial setting. Under the wrench (setup) I have MY (my menu). Where do I find this now?
please refer to the description box, I have updated it to show you how to access it
Is it possible to save more than four? Some fuji cameras have 7 custome settings.
Not on the xs10, you only get 4
Hello Jay or anyone who knows this!
I have a pressing question: how do I add "Shooting Mode" or the "aperture" setting to My Menu? Can't wrap my head around it.
Thank you!
Hi Lara, shooting mode should be assigned to a function button, and aperture can either be controlled via the lens you have attached to your camera or assigned to a command dial.
@@JayRegular thank you so much!!
It’s a shame that it’s not possible to set the custom profiles for video. That said, I just mainly shoot in aperture priority and set C4 as my main stills settings as it’s right next to video. Also I’ve changed the left dial from film simulations to ISO, so all settings for the exposure triangle have a dedicated dial. The ISO button is now used for white balance.
Nice Jon, I didn't know that you could set ISO to the left dial, I was under the impression that it would always be film simulation in scertain shooting modes and exposure compensation in some others. Good to see some smart customisation going on!
Same here. C4 and Video. When I hand to my wife flip to Auto.
Unable to switch the front and rear command dial functions is ludicrous and a real negative for this camera. I like my shutter speed on the front dial which is much more functional for the way I shoot.
why is my MF assist is greyed out
The problem with this camera being 40 megapixels is it picks up a lot of detail. I still would prefer an XT4 or even an access 10 because I think 26 megapixels is the sweet spot for portrait photography you don’t need more megapixels for people Photography you actually need less. Why do you need less megapixels well 40 megapixels will pick up that hair sticking out the end of their nose or that pimple on the side of their face that you really don’t want to see. In other words megapixels equals detail on someone’s face and sometimes there is just too much detail. Also just looking at your photos these people are pretty good looking and that actually helps the one determining factor for often for a good wedding photos is the subject matter and that might seem harsh but …just saying 😊
6:32 Gottem'
You gotta punch that like now.
