MTA hires private security to crack down on fare evasion

- The unarmed guards will be rotating through stations, with the idea being that cracking down on minor offensives could help prevent other crimes. CBS2's Natalie Duddridge has the details.
Guard:Stop!! pay your fare!!
Guard: Gets slapped in the face.
Guard: I quit
More like slashed in the face.
🤣🤣🤣
Lmaooo, you think the people of NYC don’t respect cops, imagine a random guard saying stop lol
That's exactly what will happen.
more like, shot dead.
Crack down on fare evasion? I would think that would be a little more concerned about the people getting cracked over the head on that thing.
they walk right past these unarmed guards ( p$23 per hr) and still jumping turnstiles !...a complete waste of TAXPAYERS money costing millions !..hire freaking cops.. nobody respects unarmed security
Nope...just 💰
Why is THIS the priority? So disgusting with everything going on.
Money. That is all. It's never about saftey
Why this is a priority did you listen it’s about stopping crime and that’s a huge priority
@@zo62 it seems counterintuitive when evil people will find a way to do evil unto others, whether they pay the fare or not. What’s needed is a more present police force where it counts
Enforcing laws shouldn’t be seen as disgusting. Stop making excuses for these scumbags.
exactly
Once again worried about money. Hire them for safety
If only they can crack down on actual violent subway crime that’s hurting and killing its civilians, then NYC will almost be a Utopia 😆
Lol. Exactly! Did you hear the mayor the other day 'These people are mentally ill' No shit Sherlock, stop stating the fucking obvious and do something!!
NYC is far from an utopia, even if all the crime is solved. It still a dystopia.
and crack down on your kind committing most of the crimes.
It's a utopia if you're high on crack or meth..
Well- they're more worried about money then our safety!
hire unarmed guard to prevent crimes not fair evasions smh
Exactly. That's what they Care about !
Mr., Smith Wesson
you can see whats more important to the MTA.
They don't have arrest powers all security guards can do in NYS is detect deter and report
Subway needs to be safer and y’all get unarmed guards for turnstile hoppers 🤣
This is a great idea?!?? Pay security guards cause the NYPD ain’t doing their jobs? Maybe now with less turnstile hoppers there will be less homeless abusing the train system in NYC. The train is vital to our city. And the people who work and make it. Your comment is just uneducated or misinformed
@@melanymazler5347 I foresee tons of incidents
ARMED!
This is such a bad idea ...risking your life for an unpaid train fare .......good luck those people.....🙏
Imagine having stage 4 terminal cancer and you look to the doctor for help and they give you a Tum.
These Unarmed Guards Better be Ex-Military or Former NFL Linemen Because that Job is going to be a Full Contact Position. At Least Give those Guards a Panic Whistle and a Helmet with a Full Face Shield.
I’m screaming 😂😂😂😂😂
People in the military police etc all are cowards not even joking they did heavy research on this 95% of people who join are nerds cowards etc they join thinking it's gonna make the tougher but you can't teach heart
Bro the guards at my station by rolling up like fucc this free money top flight
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
MTA is Concern more about money than safety.
The MTA money hungry, always crying over revenue. Agree?
I see all kinds of people doing this even business men and business woman doing it
i just said that lmao MTA gonna crash in the near yrs get y’all driver license n drive bruh
@@LowMayne hahaha I don’t doubt it
@@LowMayne what do you mean mta will crash? Like shut down??
@@jusrome2037 lol that will never happen don’t mind bro
They could just build better turnstiles but that would require some actual investment.
Very dangerous thing to do my heart goes for those security guard and they family tragedy around the corner suicide
Once they evade the fair they are a criminal
Paint a fake wall on the opposite side like looney tunes and watch them get roadrunnered
Guards are only suppose to observe and report... saying STOP PAY YOUR FARE will get them assulted or worst killed.
@@israelzayas361 sometimes they wanna be cop that's the problem
RIP ⚰️
These guards are in for a world of hurt. Gl to them when they’re confronted with 3 guys with black Nike tech suits and mask on
Unarmed? Pitying the family of the unarmed worker that might be stabbed trying to stop someone from going through.
I mean they know what the job entails. Tough shit. If you don’t like it, quit. No? Need the money?
Most people that hop are just tryna go about their day.
The mta are greedy fucks, they need to worry about getting night shift workers home on time
And you know that's going to happen, or, a shootout and innocent people that happen to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time getting hit by stray bullets.
What infuriates me is that I’ve had those stupid machines double swipe me and I’ve had no recourse to get a refund. I’ve had situations where the vending mta machines don’t work and I can’t go on the train which you are forced to rely on. You hop, there’s a fat pig waiting to extort you but never help you. This whole system is anti you. The average people. But y’all are so conditioned to kiss cop ass
Better pay those "unarmed" guards good damn money lol... couldn't pay me enough to work as one 🤡
It’s a Pandemic. Get a job.
Word I’m not getting stabbed cause some dude decided not to pay lol be my guest enjoy your free ride lol
@@ActionJacksonForever Your going to get mugged
@@ArtIsDrawing I’m not you, I’m not a victim.
@@ActionJacksonForever There are very specific laws in which you're obligated to use deadly/reasonable force and that is to protect your safety from imminent threats and/or the safety of others. Being "unarmed" simply means not carrying a firearm. Anything else is fine (maceballs/pepper spray, batons, taser, etc).
Mta: "we don't have money"
Also Mta: *spends undisclosed, probably large amount of money on private security contracts*
These gaurds should be armed because of what's been happening in the subway.
That's my thoughts exactly
Definitely, more guns in the *right* hands to fend off crime.
That's 10 more dollars by the hour
They are ARMED they just don't know how to use them.
R.LENCMT
Unarmed..
They will not work
Unarmed is absolute stupidity
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just can't stop but laugh. This is ridiculous. Get ready for lawsuits
What lawsuits will come about? I don't follow.
Why go thru this charade? You KNOW the violators won't get jailed or fined.
a waste of TAXPAYERS MONEY 💰🛒
Make the MTA free like the Staten Island Ferry.
YES!!!! U R TOTALLY MAKING SENSE 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Didn't Alvin Bragg say he was no longer prosecute Fare Evasion? DA for the criminals!
Mindboggling that people haven't protested to remove him from the office.
That's what he said earlier this year.
When you say DA do you mean “Deadass”?
@Lungho Are you familiar with the broken windows approach to policing that the Giuliani administration initiated back in 1994?
@Lungho They went after squeegee guys, the graffiti vandals, the subway turnstile jumpers, public drinking, public urinating, etc. And by so doing they encountered people in possession of illegal drugs, guns and knives. They also encountered folks with outstanding warrants. This set a tone in the city and gradually law enforcement took the streets back.
Back in 1990 with a city population of 7.3 million we had had 2,262 murders. As recently as 2018, with a population then of 8.5 million we had only 295 murders.
So this means, that there’s a subway hike coming real soon, for those who use subway to get to and from work…. Unbelievable…..😎
You are quite correct. You could swear it
Of course especially with the cameras being installed in 2025 $3.25 subways fares coming soon!
@@ActionJacksonForever Dont complain if you do not want crime BLM
@@ArtIsDrawing I protect myself at all times and move the right way, you should do the same and stop relying on your lying governmental bodies
I've seen the guards the MTA has deployed. Please believe me when i say, real criminals won't care, their still going through, and those guards won't be able or willing to stop them.
i feel like we have more serious matters going on in the subways than fare evasion.
relative privation. yawn.
CVS guards are useless so what makes this different ?
I'm a security guard I worked loss prevention before if shoplifters couldn't take us serious what makes them think a fare evador will stop and pay before entering the subway?
“Could prevent” people don’t respect the cops… what is the unarmed guard gonna do?
Get killed most likely. There's no punishment anymore, so why even bother doing anything? What, fill out paperwork and then release them?
What do you mean not ever fare evader is a criminal? They became a criminal the second they didn’t pay to enter.
How about paying private security guards to stop people from being mugged/robbed on the subway?
Gonna cause more arguments thus more bloody crime scenes.
They should focus on safety
They are. Every criminal is. Like the criminals in 1776.
There should be armed guards at EVERY station.
Shoot first, then …
Many countries abroad not only have armed guards, but they're armed with machine guns.
With a gun, otherwise, open the subway free for everybody
Okay then don’t complain when they take 67% of your check in taxes to pay for this.
.....they're usually referred to as Police Officers.🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♀️
The solution to this problem is having the full height turnstiles at every station.
Or doors like the Marta in Atl.
The solution is to give these people guns and the right to use deadly force so that crime in the NYC subway will end.
CRACK DOWN ON CRIME AND VIOLENCE FIRST!!!
Subway should be FREE anyway.
There should be FEDERAL money Allocated for Subway for Free subway system.
I'm sure that they will be using that as a talking point when they decide to raise the fare again pretty soon.
Or! Here's an idea... get rid of all those old-fashioned turnstiles for good, install the other full revolving turnstiles in every train station that you cannot get through unless you pay your fare. It would also work as a great deterrent of keeping the homeless out of the subway system significantly!
You're absolutely right I didn't think about that...that will work
Correct. Install the "High Wheel Exits" throughout the entire system everywhere. The problem that would remain would be the "slam gates" (for the disabled, and the fare-beaters). A solution can also be ... make it FREE to enter the subway system, but make it so you have to swipe to get out. *PAY* *TO* *EXIT* .
That's actually an excellent idea!
one problem OG, the station needs that slam door, thats where alot of the evading happens, ya heard.
But when they collect the money out of the matro card machines they're armed of course
Protecting money is more important than protecting people
Lmaoooo
The most fare evasion happens in the affluent areas. I bet these unarmed guards won't be working those stations.
Do you have data to back up your claim about fare evasion happening most in affluent areas? Because I have never seen credible data showing where fare evasion happens most, only data about where people are most likely to have contact with police over fare evasion, and that tends to be in less affluent areas.
saw two young women this morning duck under the turnstiles and pass over their 16 dollar salads from sweetgreen 🙄
If only there were some taxpayer funded agency that already existed and could do this job. Some kind of agency that was responsible for enforcing the law.
🤣
I wonder what agency that could be. 🤔
UNARMED 😃
In 24 hrs “security guard stabbed”
Boutta start watching the news again for Natalie 👌👀
When I took a trip down to LA from San Diego, I boarded a subway train and this man who was off his meds or on some dumb drug shit was yelling and screaming and when I sat down near him he simply looked at me, smiled and went to the middle of the aisle where he pulled out a knife and started swinging it around and hitting it against the poles and threatening people. Luckily nobody got stabbed however somebody easily could have been! Security needs to have more a presence to stop THESE people from committing crimes.
They walk through the gate with the cops around!!!!! This is just a waste of money!!!
Putting UNARMED guards down in the subways? The situation sounds like it came straight out of the Martin sitcom, Rent A Cop with his flashlight "I see You". SMH MTA is totally useless. I hope the guards have good health abd life insurance.
There is an answer to this problem which had been changed over the years but it's the same
' design.':
... The Turnstile.
The Turnstile in London, England ALREADY figure it out on stopping the fare- beaters and has there any news on people jumping or ducking down? No.
It's the same style as what we ALREADY have at the Airtrain station in Jamaica, Queens. Same to the Subway Platform Barriers on the Airtrain.
But, MTA is gonna say they DON'T wanna spend millions on our subways but DOES spend on the Airtrain. So no, don't blame Hochul, blame MTA on this.
Security won't work cause it'll get expensive and some of them will wait until the security leaves.
If London has one, why not NYC?
What about busses? Find a crowd waiting for a bus and you'll see many climbing in through the back door. Free rides.
Yea in Staten Island is the worst...everybody and their mothers are getting on the bus for free...the money that MTA is losing in one day is a lot and we are the ones who will have to pay for that!! We are talking about all races and religions doing it... see it with my own eyes...what are they going to do about that? Huh?
Some bus drivers won't open the back door to let people off. Use the front. I live in Philly(from north Jersey) and one transit center, they have a Septa worker keeping fare evaders from entering the back doors on all the buses that stop there. He has a card scanner if you want to enter through the back door paying with your Septa pass. I like the idea. Also, Philly still has the old turnstiles that people walk around all of the time smh. A monthly pass is 96 bucks in this poor city and fare evaders help to increase that.
It's suicidal to send a poor guard to deal with metal sickos" in the trains station.. 🤦🤦
I saw a video of the budget of the MTA vs the subway in SouthKorea and it's a fraction but in Korea have barriers on stations , bathrooms on every stations, elevators on all stations , special room for moms with carriers and security guards on platforms
Probably because their MTA administrators and workers actually WORK instead of abusing the system. Probably because their public administrators use public funds for the service of the PUBLIC instead of funnelling funds (a/k/a STEALING) for their own benefit, like paying for chauffered cars to take their kids to school, their spouses shopping, etc. Bottom line, we have more "working thieves" in this city than in some entire countries.
I was a civilian employee with the former NYC Transit Police Dept -assigned to the Communications Unit in 1985. The Transit Authority started placing uniformed Revenue Protection Agents at many subway exit/entrance gates by turnstiles, to deter fare beats. The Agents could only shout out 'Pay Your Fare'. Many Agents were assaulted. The token booth clerks witnessed the assaults and called for Transit Police response via 6-wire. . . And medical, when needed. That deterant program was disbanded in less than one year--this was in the 1985 - 1988 period. Years before the merger with NYPD.
Not to protect the lives of customers, but fare evasion. Got it.
They need to be hiring private security for the trains TF!
Unarmed security guards with no authority to arrest engaged in broken window policing. You can't make this stuff up.
THIS IS DUMB.
When one of the "guards" gets a mudhole stomped into him then the project will be abandoned.
They keep coming up with the dumbest ideas that means they have no idea.
It’s all about 💰💰💰💰💰to them they don’t care about citizens
Why don’t they just have those rotating gates on every subway entrance? That way nobody can jump the turnstile. SMH
Real New Yorkers know that those do not work at all 😂
And plus those break easily
How long before one of these unarmed guards is killed by one of these 'fair-evaders", I wonder.
ONLY SOMEONE FROM LONG ISLAND WOULD BELIEVE THAT WAS THE REASON
Stop blaming covid for all these crimes. Provessive politics and anti cop rhetoric. Thank you Deblasio and company!
Thank you for saying that. It's so true, everything that goes wrong now, well, it's Covid. What has that got to do with anything? When I get that response from a business, I simply say, you're covering up for incompetence. Covid is a lame excuse. However, if you remember after 9/11, they did the same thing, blame everything on 9/11 .
I make six figures a year and if I get a chance to walk through the emergency gate I take it. I pay my taxes and the service just keeps getting worse.
If they kick a police officer butt, for those private investigators wil be worse.
Seriously. This will only cause serious backlash & the even more rise of anti poverty bs. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
At most this may be a deterrent at best and maybe provide a sense of public safety. If you're hiring the same guards that work at Walgreens, oh it's over lol lol however, things can get ugly quick. Wanna pilot this program: ok, start at West 125th on the 2/3 line. yeah, start there.
That's Right 🤣 Tell It Brotha 👊🏿
Will the city provide life insurance for the "unarmed" guards, or death benefits to their family ?
Once again the city proving it's not about safety it was always about the money
What I love is seeing a crew of about nine police officers huddled together around a fold-out table at the entrance of my Bronx train stop (in the late afternoon) looking to check people's bags and back packs - - - but in the morning, they're nowhere to be found as almost everyone and their mother is either jumping the turnstiles or the person in the MTA booth (who's been rendered almost completely useless by those MTA card machines - automation at it's best) opens the magnetic lock door and then looks the other way as the big parade of people goes through it. And there all those characters that instead go down the exits and wait for someone to open that door (on their way out) so they can slip in... and also (in the same exit only spots) the ones who have found a way to break those full height (one way) rotating rail turnstiles - and get them to spin in the opposite way so they can also slip into the system.
Really?? You wanna crack down on fare invasions but people can get killed while riding subway? Pfffff
So with all them crimes going on they really worrying about fare evasion???
😑Where are the commenters who say the city has no money??? That money needs to go to the security of passengers not a flashlight cop🤣 I'll be praying for these security guards families because NYC crime in the subway system has soared tremendously 🙏🙏🙏
It’s been a long time since I was in Berlin Germany. So I don’t know how it works currently. The ticket kiosks are located on the subway platforms. Passengers can go into the station and buy subway tickets on the platform before boarding. There are no gates, turnstiles, guards, nothing. I’m told there is a fine if caught without a ticket. Everything is based on an HONOR system. Honor is what we are missing in this country. It’s so sad.
public transportation should be included in taxes and we won't have to worry about these problems.
Nyers " hey crime is going up , we need more safety in the stations, maybe hire armed security guards"
MTA: "Lets hire security guards"
Nyers: yay
MTA: "But to make sure people pay for their fare"
Nyers: Oh -_-
LMAO! MTA is a joke. Yeah, go after fare evasion… meanwhile someone is getting assaulted or getting pushed onto the tracks. Common sense isn’t that common no more 🤣
Now they locking the HOMELESS up for being HOMELESS
Steal a newspaper in Michigan you're life on meds in group home if mentally ill as burden of the state with no ability to escape it. I do not trust one person in any Michigan affiliated neighborhood.
Unarmed guards? you have to be kidding me!!! What if they have a weapon? I used to work Security and you're not around to touch anyone because you can be sued...so if they charge at you what are you going to do? That's a job that I could never see myself doing...my life means more than a few dollars
The Solution: Wait for another Passingby (or a stranger) to pay Subway fare to open and shouldnt take a while, then walk thru subway fare for Free. if that dont work, ask (to lie) "they're my friend"
If the guards are unarmed, how will they enforce it.
Cracking Down??!! Give me a break!! LMAO!!😅 They're standing in a corner on their cell phones...
I chocked Almost, having my lunch
The best way to fight crime is an unarmed 400 lb security guard. Brilliant! 🍿🍿🍿
Private security? Unarmed? Who in their right minds would want these jobs?😂😂😂
they're worried about fares when people ae being pushed onto the tracks and stabbed on a daily basis
What stupid comment, go check the video again. It is the fare evaders who in majority commit crimes
Security at the turnstiles isn’t enough for you?
Unarmed guards lmao what a joke. If people hope with police in presence what are top flight guards gonna do? The MTA just loves to waste money smfh.
Its not in a persons best interest to be there
Unarmed?? ER doctors and nurses have many more patients on the way ..
Who TF they hired, Top Flight? “Ya gotta shine some damn body!” SMMFH 🤷♂️🤦. Unarmed guards to deal with criminals who more than likely carry weapons, not gonna work.
this will not stop anything because there is not one single private security guard who will risk injury for minimum wage.
Why don't they also hire private armed guards on subway platforms? A good idea to slow down crime
I'm still not paying.
G.👀.d ideas
Be safe and God bless you all.🙏.
Hilarious. It seems like everyone that gets on the bus 🚌 doesn't pay
If they truly wanted to stop this from happening, just start:
1) putting in gates that they can’t just jump in EVERY STATION in every states in the US.
2) Those doors by the gates, just slap a means that if you aren’t a security guard or transit employee with a valid ID, anyone else that just Willy nilly opens that door will cause a very loud alarm to start blaring.
Think of it as a deterrent as some of the fare evaders might not care but some also don’t want the attention.
Get rid of the mayor. With all the crime going on in the subway, he’ll rather focus on fare evasion.
If they're evading they can't afford to pay. This won't increase the money transit is receiving.
They have tried this in the past with transit protection agents and it did not work!
Maybe hire security to cut down on all the violent attacks. 🤷🏻♀️
Worried more about payment
