They also encountered folks with outstanding warrants. This set a tone in the city and gradually law enforcement took the streets back.
Back in 1990 with a city population of 7.3 million we had had 2,262 murders. As recently as 2018, with a population then of 8.5 million we had only 295 murders.

There is an answer to this problem which had been changed over the years but it's the same
    ' design.':
    ... The Turnstile.
The Turnstile in London, England ALREADY figure it out on stopping the fare- beaters and has there any news on people jumping or ducking down? No.
It's the same style as what we ALREADY have at the Airtrain station in Jamaica, Queens. Same to the Subway Platform Barriers on the Airtrain.
But, MTA is gonna say they DON'T wanna spend millions on our subways but DOES spend on the Airtrain. So no, don't blame Hochul, blame MTA on this.
Security won't work cause it'll get expensive and some of them will wait until the security leaves.
If London has one, why not NYC?

Some bus drivers won't open the back door to let people off. Use the front. I live in Philly(from north Jersey) and one transit center, they have a Septa worker keeping fare evaders from entering the back doors on all the buses that stop there. He has a card scanner if you want to enter through the back door paying with your Septa pass. I like the idea. Also, Philly still has the old turnstiles that people walk around all of the time smh. A monthly pass is 96 bucks in this poor city and fare evaders help to increase that.

Probably because their public administrators use public funds for the service of the PUBLIC instead of funnelling funds (a/k/a STEALING) for their own benefit, like paying for chauffered cars to take their kids to school, their spouses shopping, etc. Bottom line, we have more "working thieves" in this city than in some entire countries.

I was a civilian employee with the former NYC Transit Police Dept -assigned to the Communications Unit in 1985. The Transit Authority started placing uniformed Revenue Protection Agents at many subway exit/entrance gates by turnstiles, to deter fare beats. The Agents could only shout out 'Pay Your Fare'. Many Agents were assaulted. The token booth clerks witnessed the assaults and called for Transit Police response via 6-wire. . . And medical, when needed. That deterant program was disbanded in less than one year--this was in the 1985 - 1988 period. Years before the merger with NYPD.

When I get that response from a business, I simply say, you're covering up for incompetence. Covid is a lame excuse. However, if you remember after 9/11, they did the same thing, blame everything on 9/11 .

What I love is seeing a crew of about nine police officers huddled together around a fold-out table at the entrance of my Bronx train stop (in the late afternoon) looking to check people's bags and back packs - - - but in the morning, they're nowhere to be found as almost everyone and their mother is either jumping the turnstiles or the person in the MTA booth (who's been rendered almost completely useless by those MTA card machines - automation at it's best) opens the magnetic lock door and then looks the other way as the big parade of people goes through it. And there all those characters that instead go down the exits and wait for someone to open that door (on their way out) so they can slip in... and also (in the same exit only spots) the ones who have found a way to break those full height (one way) rotating rail turnstiles - and get them to spin in the opposite way so they can also slip into the system.

It’s been a long time since I was in Berlin Germany. So I don’t know how it works currently. The ticket kiosks are located on the subway platforms. Passengers can go into the station and buy subway tickets on the platform before boarding. There are no gates, turnstiles, guards, nothing. I’m told there is a fine if caught without a ticket. Everything is based on an HONOR system. Honor is what we are missing in this country. It’s so sad.

If they truly wanted to stop this from happening, just start:
    1) putting in gates that they can’t just jump in EVERY STATION in every states in the US.
    2) Those doors by the gates, just slap a means that if you aren’t a security guard or transit employee with a valid ID, anyone else that just Willy nilly opens that door will cause a very loud alarm to start blaring.
Think of it as a deterrent as some of the fare evaders might not care but some also don’t want the attention.
