    The grave of the unknown soldier is not just a symbol but a real grave. It contains the remains of an unidentified soldier, brought during a special ceremony from the cemetery of the Defenders of Lviv.

    13:35 well, actualy, when Warsaw Uprising started, Soviet Army was on the outskirts of city... They stood there for 2 months and just watched as citizens of Warsaw were murdered... once 90% of city buildings were destoroyed, and German forces left the ruins... "victorius" soviet Army "captured" the city from Germany...

    • @mecx7322
      @mecx7322 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Totally wrong. When Uprising started, Soviet Army was still quite far from outskirts of the city. They didn't relax and Warsaw destroyed, in fact they were engaged in huge and bloody battle. Battle of Wolomin - Radzymin is regarded by military historians as 3rd biggest tank battle of WW 2 ( after Kursk and Falaise, but ahead of El Alamein ). During first days of August 1944 German forces launches vicious counter-attack and halted Soviet Army. Commander of 1st Byelorussian Front, marshal K. Rokossowski was in real trouble. He was ordered to seize Praga on eastern bank of Vistula on 2nd of August and enter centre of Warsaw on 6th of August. Instead his forces were in desperate defence. His main strike force, 2nd Panzer Army lost about 80% of tanks and finally had to be withdrawn for reinforcement. Several units were encircled and totally annihilated. German threw everything they had into the battle, including elite H. Goering SS Panzer Division moved in great hurry from Italy. There is a very detailed short film ( "Bitwy Swiata - Bitwa pod Warszawa 1944r ) by young vlogger Martinn showing battle in detail.

    • @mecx7322
      @mecx7322 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Continuation. It is really worth watching because all units are specified clearly with numbers and movements are shown on each day. East part of Warsaw, Praga, was finally captured on 13 - 14 th September by Soviet and Polish forces On 15th units of 1st Polish Army started crossing Vistula and formed 3 bridgeheads. All of them were destroyed during next 10 - 12 days. More than 3000 Polish soldiers were killed ( 3 times more than during famous battle of Monte Cassino ), about one third drowned in the river. Experienced city-assault units from Czujkov's army were to be engaged to follow the attack but due to Polish failure it never happened.
      Sadly such a biased view is presented in Warsaw Uprising Museum. You can hear museum lecturers talking to young audience (schoolchildren): Red Army sat on the other side of the river and just watched the dying city. Not even a word about extermination of Polish troops on the bridgeheads. There are very interesting memories from South African and British pilots, lucky survivors of Warsaw airlift but not even a word about such airlift ( much smaller, only after 17th of September ) performed by Red Army. Stalin was of course an enemy of Polish Home Army and was always trying to annihilate it but in fact he wanted to capture Warsaw in August 1944 ( and deal with Polish patriots later, as previously in Lwow or Wilno ).

      Hmm, I think it's as beautiful as a "postcard beauty", and has lots of fascinating places. It also has a lot of various, large beautiful parks that have been created since the Baroque period, several of them are considered pearls of European parks (Łazienki, Ujazdowski, Skaryszewski), and one of them (Skaryszewski - created in the 1920s) was included in the top three most beautiful parks in the world by National Geographic. I love Warsaw.

    Really good vlog. Beautiful views of Warsaw. Appropriate, true information. And good that You visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum. Thanks. By the way, about the uprising, it's true that it ended in the deaths of 200 000 of Polish civilians and destruction of Warsaw in over 80%. However, back then, after so many years of horrible, brutal German occupation and genocide, people really wanted to fight against Germans. And they wanted also to show Soviets that this is their land, their country, that they would fight for it's freedom (they remembered after all very well to which horrible atrocities Soviets are capable of, no better than Germans).

      Mała korekta do stwierdzenia, że polski rząd był w podziemiu. W podziemiu było kilku wysłanników i zwykli ludzie, natomiast polski rząd już w połowie września 1939r uciekł i zostawił nas na łasce i niełasce okupantów. I to samo nam teraz szykują, ustawa wprowadzona, złoto wyprowadzone, apartamenty przygotowane i znowu będą dzielnie nas bronić, wcześniej wpychając nas do wojny.

    In 10:52 you are passing the street where I used to live :) And just when you filmed the granite wall at the back of Warsaw Upraising Museum please remember the names which are graved there are the names of fallen Upraising soldiers who gave their lives in this fight. There is a name of my auntie there, her name was Henryka Barbara Żylak. She, among so many others gave her life for our freedom. It is easy, when you want to find a person on this wall you just need to see at the book, which is in front of the wall, and when you know the name you can easily locate the person on the wall.

    The Warsaw Uprising (it seems to be the largest battle of World War II, or one of the largest) in the summer of 1944 - initially victorious, but the Russians allowed the Germans to return to Warsaw (basically encouraged them) and suppress it after more than 3 months of heavy fighting. Earlier, the Poles (Polish resistance movement - Home Army), as part of the Storm Plan (Plan Burza), liberated (as the decisive force) what is now southern Lithuania, western Belarus and western Ukraine (at that time these were the eastern parts of Poland). It is worth recalling that the Soviets invited the commanders of these victorious troops of the Home Army to a party in Lviv (practically liberated by Poles) to "celebrate the common victory" that moved the eastern front significantly forward. Polish officers, thinking that it was a celebration prepared by the Allies for the Allies, came to the party, where the Soviets arrested (and later - shot them after torture). They also started hunting down the Polish anti-German resistance movement and killing its members.
    The Warsaw Uprising was supposed to be an element of the same Storm Plan (at that time, the still successful). The Soviets could have easily advanced into Poland already in the summer of 1944. But they preferred to kill Poles at the same time, pretending to be friends, in order to pave the way for the communists brought from Moscow. This is actually extremely disgusting, but typical of Stalin.

      Good, true comment about how this so-called "liberation" by Russians looked like (and always looks like this). In fact, they were doing the same, or even worse things, that Germans did.

    The Old Town also includes the so-called New Town, which has its own Rynek. The New Town Rynek looks completely different from the Old Town Rynek (Rynek Nowego Miasta), but it is also nice. Near the New Town Rynek (New Town Square) there is the oldest brick Gothic church in Warsaw.

    Good movie. I've been in Warsaw not so long ago. If you get lost in tiny streets between the Old Marked Town and the Barbakan you could find the house of former city mayor from 17 cent Alexander Chalmers. He was Scottish from Aberdeen - Dyce.
