I just visited Poland for the first time to Warsaw and Kraków. first let me say i have been to close to 25 European countries and almost a hundred cities in Europe, but Poland which I am not biased, I'm Irish and Dutch from America was the most friendly, polite place. The food, people and hotel staff was very friendly in all cities I stayed in. Can't wait to return.

Love your country Poland, makes me want to visit it again, I did spend 3 nights in Poland. 1st night in Krakow, the next morning we toured Auschwitz for an hour before heading to Warsaw, then the final night in Wroclaw. I am impressed by this country, known for its unique and vibrant culture.
Amen.
i met this polish guy who works here in my country.. we had 3 amazing dates, on our 3rd date he told me he will leave my country in 2 months and move back home or to UK... he was soooo sweet and nice to me... no one treats me like he did.. i like him so much and i know i would freaking fall for him if we continue to date.. then i blocked him, first time he kept sending friend request and i felt so sad and guilty then i re-friended him... then i figured i cant really do this... then i blocked him again... sweet boy sent me friend request but i ignored.. im such a horrible person.. but i really cannot do this.. anyways, thats why im here.. im so curious a bout his country of origin... he inspired me to learn more about the world and that im "special" and can be loved.... :-)
Visited Poland in the spring of 2022. First time visiting Europe. We visited Gdansk, Warsaw, and Krakow. Such an incredibly beautiful people and culture
As a father of a 4 year old girl, I couldn't imagine the absolute heart ache of being torn away from her and sitting in that cold barrack and not knowing whether she's dead, or alive but cold hungry and crying and wanting mum and dad. It's just horrific.
My daughter has traveled to Warsaw and Bialystok . I have it on my travel list for Europe travels. Rick Steves does excellent job!!!
I Don't know why I love this country actually polish people are amazing
Poland, Europe's greatest symbol of resistance and resilience 🇵🇱🇪🇺✊🇵🇱🇪🇺

I am brazilian and I like the spirit of Poland so much. I think it's a very nice country, although I didn´t visit Poland yet. I hope I will. And congratulations to Rick Steves that do a very good job with this fantastic project.
Having just returned from a five day tour of Warsaw, Wroclaw ad krakow this program shows the best and worst of Poland during the 2nd WW also it shows the spirit and friendliness of the Polish people. I would love to go back and see the rest of the country and meet more of it's interesting people. my visit to Auschwitz, Birkenau and Oskar Schindlers Factory museum left me with a sense of saddness I had never felt before.. I wll never forget either my visit or the havock caused to the Polish and others who suffered during WW2.
Keith Buchanan Keith - during your next visit try to enjoy contemporary Poland. It’s vibrant, beautiful and criminality free...
God Bless Poland!
6:11 Nocturne in E flat by Chopin being played background simply adds to the Polish flavour of the video. Beautiful!
Rick's video is from 2004, last 10 years has changed this country complitly. Now is much better.
Note: Poland is in central europe. It is not "in the north east corner of europe".
Greetings from Philippines ! We love a beautiful country of poland..
Thank you Mace...and we Poles love beautiful & sunny Philippines!
I think Poland is so charming!
I have family from opolen and Breslau but they were ethnically Germans but I may have had some polish ancestors as well.🇩🇪🇵🇱
Poland is refreshingly lovely and pristine, evoking similar imagery of Holland.
+Poppy M I was talking about the esthetics of both countries. The visual beauty of both is breathtaking. You definitely seem to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. You're much too "literal" in your response.
Poland I love you ❤.
I wish Rick Steves would go back to Poland and do a second episode showing the changes as this episode is almost 20 years old. He also has not shown Gdansk, Poznań, Łódź, Zakopane, Turoń or the Malbork Castle.
Hamburg...Cologne
Poland, I will be there exploring you. Poland looks amazing.
I have never been to Poland or any other European country but I am so fond of Polish history and literature ( I adore Adam Mitzskevich, I know I spelled that wrong) good old times when you were sitting in Moscow in 17th century...Love from Azerbaijan!
LosT4088 oh by the way I am planning to study my master degree in Hungary and then I will probably visit Poland!
Why not study in Poland brother
King KobiGames could not find any master of history in English
You can do an internish in English though! I'm starting one in february at Lodz, I'm studying history in Mexico.
Adam Mickiewicz ;)
Someday I will visit Europe.
By observing your video now I am fall in love with "Europe". Poland is so beautiful by naturally. My love & respect to "Poland" from Dhaka, Bangladesh. God bless "Poland " & "Europe".
I have all respect for poland and the polish people. ☺☺☺☺I love you verry much . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
As I watch this on March 30, 2022, one month into Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, I’m deeply struck by the similarities between the Warsaw Uprising and the Ukrainian resistance to Russian atrocity. This was a tough one to watch, Rick, but I’m so glad I did. Human beings are flawed but fascinating creatures. Thank the Lord there is still integrity, courage and nobility among us, to battle and defeat the worst. God bless Poland, and God bless Ukraine. 🇺🇦
The Polish are an incredibly strong people. I’m proud to be of half Polish descent. I hope to visit Poland next year for the first time, including the town where my great grandfather and his people lived, Bryzostek, near Krakow.
Visited 5 cities in Poland in 2017. Absolutely amazing country! Hope to see more of your beautiful country again :) Love from India
I visited Krakow in March 20017 I absolutely loved the polish people we visited The Salt Mines and Schindler's Factory but I found Auschwiz very harrowing and we should never forget what happened but it took me a few days to feel normal I just couldn't comprehend what Auschwiz held and what happened there if like me you think too much and are an empath don't visit Auschwiz it's so very very sad
Karen Kimberley hi karon
Kareon
Polish people have a long memory and remember what Germans done to us. Sometimes you can say that we stick too much in history but we think that history lern us how avoid mistakes.
Greetins from Poland.
Karen - yes, you express it well. It's the grimmest place on earth and has a profound effect on the visitor. I went to Aushwitz 3 times but avoided Birkenau until the 4th time, and I would never go there again. Like you, it took me days to recover from the full horror of the reality of the greatest crime in history, and even now, the memory haunts me and makes me shiver when I think of it. RIP so many.
Are you from the future? How is Krakow in 20017?
Poland is a beautiful country!
I visited Poland until now four time. Really is very lovely country. The peoples are very polite. Thanks, i want to visit again in future.
the term "vodka" (wódka - voodka,) is Polish. Vodka was invented by Arabs 2000 years ago and came to Poland very early. First it was called "okowita" from latin "aqua vita" - "the water of life", because it gave such an energy and quickly lifted the mood. Poles often used latin as everybody in catholic Europe in medieval ages. But in 15th century they started to call "okovita" in pure Polish - wodka (woda means in Polish a water and vodka is the warm variation of this term, like John and Johnny). And yes, it is very traditional for us but for centuries even more popular in Poland were wines (especially Hungarian ones, so called in Poland "wegrzyny", which are mostly no worse than French, actually), and alkoholized honey (in many ways, in many kinds - delicious), and beer (especially with herbs, which was drunk by everybody like a water). Polish vodka has a very long and rich tradition and is much sofisticated than other types of vodka like Russian for example. You may say that Polish vodka is like French wine among just wines. It is tasty, a little bit flavoured in many special ways, and should be drunk in a special manner to feel all its advantages.
1. should be cooled
2. should be drunk in a very small glasses and drunk at once up to bottom (it hurts one time as a burning shot, and also has a special, unforgetable velvet taste, which is at the same time fantastic, you may feel specific flavour of the specifc kind of vodka (Polish kinds of vodka are very diversified, with some leading kinds, most popular in Poland, like Żubrówka for example ). Abroad Polish vodka is often treated as luxury vodka (Belvedere for example is the new kind of vodka, made in Polish way and, actually, should be drunk in Polish way to feel all its advantages).
3. it is the best when one shot of vodka is followed by proper food (it helps to not to be drunk too quickly even after many shots and stay with friends, it also helps to keep some alcohol away from the blood). In Poland we have special traditional snacks fitting to vodka, so the ceremony of drinking it during a social meeting for example is even more nice. Traditional Polish snakcs for vodka are pickled forest mushrooms, pickled and sauer cucumbers, pickled herrings, diversifed set of carne and a bread with flavorued lard - all are on the table together and you can choose.
Much love from Hungary! I've just come back from Poland and It's been a great experience
No mention of Jan III Sobieski... Without this king, much of Europe would be a completely different entity today.
Exactly
Or he made mistake to go to war fight to save enemy
Him and those Winged Hussars!!!😃
In which banknote is he displayed?
They say that about a whole lot of kings. No need to mention everyone specifically.

Turkey has never accepted partitioning Poland by 3 countries in late XVIII century. Poles remember this fact.
And then the Winged Hussars attacked.

Much love, from Indonesia!
I have been to Poland, twice, both for the trainings of one of the Big 4 companies. Even if i don't have memories of kind and welcoming people there (maybe because like Hungary it's highly regarded as employment entry by so many immigrants) there is something that makes me come back to this country again. I had also been to the outskirts of Warsaw which was amazing. All in all, i feel some affinity which sounds strange to me as well.
I really love Poland 🇵🇱
God bless our homeland. No matter that I am American, I am proud POLISH American first. We keep as much of our culture and traditions alive here as we can. Why can't we let others who come here do the same?
+M. .KELLY I am with you.. living in US for many years but never forgetting the language, culture, music, art... history and literature. Jeszcze Polska nie zginela poki my zyjemy... (nawet za granica)
***** W amerykańskiej polonii PiS dostał 80%. A w Polsce krąży dowcip: "Jakie jest największe świństwo które może zrobić Polak? Zagłosować na PiS i wyjechać do Stanów." Raczej o to mi chodziło. Sytuacja polonii najczęściej wygląda tak, że są to ludzie, którzy nie byli w kraju od 10 lat i dają się zmanipulować.

Looking so forward to our trip to Poland this year!
Greetings from Germany!
Krakow is probably most beautiful city in Europe!
For me it's Amsterdam followed closely by Krakow and Prague
lol there are to much tourists in amsterdam
No no no, Best Baku !
amsterdam looks like diarea -half dutch/half polish guy
DannyVT u wot, i'm polish-dutch as well and amsterdam is literally my favourite city, what is there not to like? the whole city looks beautiful
I live in Bremen, Germany and already have been to Krakow. I also visited the saltmine like 13 Years ago.
I still got some larger pieces of salt from there!
Respect for Polish people from California
What wonderful places!!! What a wonderful country!!! I love Poland... Krakow is the best!!! Congrats on this video!!!
I visited Krakow and Warsaw last month. What a beautiful country and wonderful people! Krakow is such a charming city, though there were quite a lot of tourists, it seemed unspoilt, peaceful, welcoming, and relaxed. The people are so nice, many speak excellent English. Warsaw is also an amazing city, love those Chopin music benches along the street. Apart from Auschwitz and the magnificent Salt Mine we also paid a visit to Chopin's birthplace Zelazowa Wola, which give us an opportunity to see the lovely countryside. Will go again. :)
I forgot to mention the food, the Polish food are tasty and rich, good for their cold winter days I guess. Pierogi and beet soup are common and yummy. Two restaurants we liked the most are Kamahda Lwowska in Warsaw (lovely Polish - Ukrainian traditional food and atmosphere, we went there twice in 3 days) and Pod Nosem in Krakow (fine traditional Polish cuisine), both food and service are superb, good value especially the former. We wouldn't have found them if not for Rick Steves' guide book 'Kraków, Warsaw & Gdansk'. It is very informative and user-friendly. In the book there is a description about Polish people, that they have a 'quiet elegance', which is so true! There are something about the Poles that make them stand out, make them proud. A lot to do with their history and culture I think.
Beautiful people and country!
Thank you for sharing.
After watching the Schindler's list movie..
.salute to the brave Polish.and my big respect esp. to those victims of Nazi regime. ❤❤❤
If you speak to some of the locals in Krakow you'll find Schindler wasn't quite the philanthropist he is made out to be by the movie.
ive visited krakow only once, and left with a heavy heart for many reasons. It truely is a magical place that i hope to return to one day.Of all the countries ive visted, there is something very special about this place😚
justine mathers Thank you Justine
Rick, it was beautiful and honest presentation of history of Poland .My Love❤ to Cracow from Sydney
Not very honest though, you could have impression that Poland was invaded by some strange tribe from space called "Nazi" and after war they just had gone in the air. Why he is so scared to say Germans?
Sir, actually Gniezno was the first capitol of Poland. And it is beautiful as well.
But Kalisz the oldest both in wielkopolska where Poland was born
@@robrobski9445 Not really. Poland already excited. On April 14th, 966 when Poland officially took Christianity. Only then it was recognized by the Chritian World.
This Video was made in 2004, Poland has dramatically changed since that footage...some streets of Krakow and old buildings were renovated, and in Warsaw there are way more skyscrapers now, also the city is now quite beautiful thaks to many renovations. It is even better to visit Poland now.
This is a wonderful example of the charm and wealth of knowledge that Rick Steves includes in his videos! He has the information to get you started as a tourist, but he then mentions so many cultural, historical, religious etc notes, that you feel you truly know a bit about the region, and you have many things to study and research before you go on your trip. I always enjoy his videos and books! They really do help with your enjoyment of traveling!
What a beautiful country... and so well presented, it’s history and those painful times of IIWW... the people are so pretty.... the city’s looks full of life... worth visiting!!! A Romanian living in Australia ❤️❤️❤️
Nice documentaries Rick. These reminded me of my corporate days with companies like Hoechst, Rousse, Schering, Rhone-Poulenc, and Bayer, when I uses to visit these countries. of Europe. Down the memory lane!
It's incredible to see my city from 2004... I grew up in Kraków and remember those old times. I used to spend a lot of time in the city centre
It looks a great city
I was in Krakow in February of this year. It's a beautiful city. I'd love to go back some day.
I really love this country.Wish people here live happily forever.I will be blessing you for the rest of my life.
Krakow is an amazing beautiful friendly place so much culture and stuff to do but when I go I try and get away from tourist things and they appreciate it if you attempt polish not big words just if you order a beer try polish or good morning or hello then you will see a smile on their face i can't stop visiting going for my third time in May can't wait for the walking culture beer and having fun with the locals
