I am loving this series from Norway. As a Norwegian it is fun to see parts of my own country I have never visited, and most likely never will. And you two are so good at bringing us along. It feels like I am driving around with you. ☺
May I ask why? I am originally from California, which is larger than Norway. I can't imagine not having traveled the State. Is it more difficult to travel around Norway?
@@littlebitofhope1489 California is "only" 20k square kilometers larger than Norway in land area. But most of the country is inhabitable mountain ranges or water. There is so much to see. And the coast line is the third largest in the world. We have more coastline than Russia or even Australia. It is about half as long as Canada. And we are a small country compared to Canada.
@@sjokomelk That wasn't my question. You said you have never visited many places in your country. I wondered if it was expensive or difficult to travel in. It doesn't look difficult on the videos, but living there it may be different. I'm a bit surprised you focused on the size thing.
@@littlebitofhope1489 It's not difficult to travel in Norway, But if you want to drive a car, I would suggest avoiding coming in the winter. The conditions can be difficult for people who are not used to driving in Snow and on Ice. There are trains, boats, and buses going anywhere if you don't drive. The van life couple goes out of the way to drive the back roads, if you want to go from A to B there are much easier roads to travel most of the time. Flåm’s attraction is not the place itself but the train that goes from sea level (the fjord) up to above tree level (about 1000 m. above sea level?) in the mountains. The waterfall is just a stop on the way there. The engineering needed to build a 20 km long train journey up such a steep incline is what makes the ride special. It twists up the beautiful valley and the tunnels make the ascent possible, as one of the tunnels even circles inside the mountain. The road that was built for the line to be made is now a very popular cycle route over the mountains. The bikes are not expecting many cars because most people take the train to enjoy the views! A lot less hairy😉 The cruise tourists are not in Flåm (pronounced Flom) because there is not much to see in Flåm itself! They are on the train up to the mountains.

Fun fact. Norwegian companies often go to New Zealand to film commercials there when it is winter in Norway. That way they can film "Norway in summer" during winter. The landscape on the southern island is very similar to Norway.
So nice to follow your journey, and especially when you have arrived at a car park by the Sognefjord just outside the village I live in. I can't wait to see the next episode where I hope you will go into the center of my village Lærdal.
Loved the beautiful drive even though now and then clouds tried to block the view, it was still beautiful. The rain didn't spoil it either. Enjoyed it very much 👍🙂
Goats on the road, cows on the road, even a cow poking her head through the car window which we should have closed, clouds rising from the endless forests, water falling over every other rock, that's Norway as I remember. ♥️

Great cooking too again 😉 Glad to report we received our ridgemonkey und succesfully made grilled cheese toastie and baked potatoes. That little pan makes me very happy ❤
Wow! Such beautiful scenery guys! Some of those roads are pretty hairy! Ken talking to animals always makes me smile. I liked the “disco light” tunnel…I think you should find a real disco club and get out on the dance floor! Now that would make for a funny video😂

Those walkways and steps along the Flåm river is both a walking path and for fishing. Usually with fly rods. There is salmon and sea trout in the river there. There is similar arrangements on other rivers nearby.
We spent two nights in Flåm on our trip in 2019. Part of our tour included riding the Rigid inflatable boats up the UNESCO Narrow fjord to the village of Undredal Toured the smallest stave church that was original to the village and watched their famous brown goat cheese being made. We were lucky to have sunny weather those days.

What a beautiful drive! I was a bit nervous for you, especially on the switchbacks. So glad you skipped the tunnel. Norway is definitely on my bucket list.....
Really enjoying being along for the ride. Interesting to see the bits of the journey alongside the railway line, having taken that train ride 4 years ago. I think you passed some summer farms en route. (Perhaps some Norwegian viewers could confirm.) We were able to look around a summer farm on our (guided) walk up to a glacier from Lovatnet Lake. Would love visit more of Norway at some point. Many thanks, Laura
It's not that we don't need the power, but that we want to preserve the natural beauty. It's a constant and neverending fight in Norway, the desperate need for renewable energy and the very strong will to preserve the environment.
There are countries where letting some vehicle go past in a tight situation is a matter of law, the one who is in the least positive situation to continue his route, like a heavy bus/lorry on a hill or other complicated situation, is normally given room to keep moving. It was not a lack of respect that he did not lift his hand to you. Where I live, it is against the law to indicate to a pedestrian that he/she can cross the road. Fantastic video and all the better for the weather. Some cracking roads there. I was on some narrow and steep ones in Snowdonia this weekend in similarly wet weather, but your drops were steeper and the waterfalls are much more impressive!
We had some really heavy rain and high winds. My daughter's boyfriend was with me and sleeping in the pop top so it took a bit of nerve having it up when the van was being buffeted in the wind!
very nice and following you on a trip, extra exciting with the next episode where you will come to my favorite place Lærdal, I have holidayed here for many years, and have a good number of relatives
Love the trippy lights in the tunnels .. I know it’s raining but the scenery and waterfalls are epic for sure especially tgat one half way up that road by the train Great video very very watchable
Thanks for watching. Looking back at the video reminds us how awesome it was. Sometimes when you are surrounded by it constantly you take it for granted ☺️
I think over the mountain rather than under it would be my choice as well Ken and Carol. I think, for me,claustrophobia would set in after the long drive underground.Such a different view at the top it almost looks like the moon in parts(well the moon if it had rain)! Looking forward to the next video.
Lærdalstunnelen is specifically engineered to reduce the claustrophobia and fatigue of driving through long tunnels. That's part of what makes it so unique.
Whew, that look of things atop the mountain sure is nostalgic. Haven't drove over the tunnel in over two decades. Ha ha, I remember my family driving over during the winter, and the snow walls either side of the road were as tall as a grown man. Seeing as I was a little kid back then, that was quite a bit taller than me.
We have travelled to Norway three or four times and we always remember how beautiful it is, never how much rain we had and that driving for hours still gets you nowhere. A bit tempted to go back this Summer but your rainy video is giving me second thoughts.
We would love to go back one day. The drawback for us is the long journey to get there. If they start up the ferries to Norway from England again it will be much easier 🙂
Well done once again Ken for the drive. Can imagine the 7 point turn required to safely turn around. Thanks for the tip about using a packet soup for a base. Never looked at that. Well definitely give that a go.🙂🐕🚙
Thanks for showing us the beautiful scenery in Norway. The waterfalls looked amazing. Somehow, I always like to see what you have to eat! That stew made with the soup looked tasty and the curry!
I spent the day in Flam last August. The weather was great, beautiful surroundings. There was also a rockfall that day. Very loud. Great video as always 👍
Got to say there's something 'magical' about water pouring over the rocks it never ceases to make for stunning scenery. The road that you took instead of the tunnel just reminds me of the far north of Scotland what with the scenery & weather etc it makes for a terrific drive especially if its quiet on the roads. As I've said before there must be some very interesting 'altercations' with motor homes & coaches in the holiday season 🤔 excellent as always from the little Red camper & hope you are over the worst Ken from the illness? 👌
Those lights were interesting 😬 liked the chicken casserole using soup mix. Takes up much less room than tins. Something nice about mist and murk when you’re all cosy. Flam looked interesting though very touristy. Stunning waterfalls. Norway does look beautiful. Those goats ❤ lovely scenery even in the mist. Viewpoint was well worth it. Know what you mean about Scotland. Like Skye. Best place ever for a cuppa❤moments like that really matter. Would love it there. Glorious. Over the top wins for sure. Nice curry. Don’t show Graham the naan breads 🤣👍
Love these videos. We were lucky enough to take a cruise and visited Flam, beautiful sunny day whilst we were there. Also took the train, amazing views up the mountains. Very envious of your travels. We do spend a lot of time up on the Highlands and yes have to agree a lot of the views could be in Scotland. Thanks for sharing. Safe travels ..
What a lovely video, the scenery is so beautiful. I can honestly say I am thoroughly enjoying this journey to Norway with you both. Thank you also hope Ken is feeling a lot better now. Looking forward to the next video.😊
no cliff hanger finish this week looking for a park up, but plenty of cliffs to hang onto , and those views, even being above the clouds they were spectacular, I don't want this trip/adventure to finish, cheers, Garry from DownUnder

We had some really heavy rain and high winds. My daughter's boyfriend was with me and sleeping in the pop top so it took a bit of nerve having it up when the van was being buffeted in the wind!
@@euansemple5598 yes, I wouldn’t have fancied sleeping up there in high winds 😬
Beautiful scenery, but the roads are not for the faint hearted !
Very true!
very nice and following you on a trip, extra exciting with the next episode where you will come to my favorite place Lærdal, I have holidayed here for many years, and have a good number of relatives
Glad you are enjoying our travels in Norway 🙂
Love the trippy lights in the tunnels .. I know it’s raining but the scenery and waterfalls are epic for sure especially tgat one half way up that road by the train
Great video very very watchable
Thanks for watching. Looking back at the video reminds us how awesome it was. Sometimes when you are surrounded by it constantly you take it for granted ☺️
I think over the mountain rather than under it would be my choice as well Ken and Carol. I think, for me,claustrophobia would set in after the long drive underground.Such a different view at the top it almost looks like the moon in parts(well the moon if it had rain)! Looking forward to the next video.
Yes, we thought it looked like a different world at the top ☺️ Thanks for watching
Lærdalstunnelen is specifically engineered to reduce the claustrophobia and fatigue of driving through long tunnels. That's part of what makes it so unique.
@@DivineFalcon I did not know that.Thank you.
Over the top was definitely the best choice! Beautiful. Loved the waterfalls.
We agree! 🙂
Yes, we were glad we didn’t get any snow. I can imagine the roads can be impassable in the depths of winter.
Boy, those single track roads would make me pucker!
Beautiful even in the rain and the goats were super cute. Another great vlog. 💕
Thanks so much! 😊
What a drive up to the most stunning viewpoint 😍
Yes it certainly was! Well worth the drive 🙂👍
Fully support
Hope you’re on the mend now. X Great video. X
Slowly on the road to recovery, thanks 😊
Very Beautiful scenery and views!! Hope you are feeling better Ken.
Thanks 👍
THAT was a hair raising drive....positively splendid scenery but wow!....my toes were curled up! 😂
Glad you enjoyed it 😆
Get well soon Ken.
the first time I went to Niagra Falls the whole thing was impacted by the weather. Looks amazing though
Well done once again Ken for the drive. Can imagine the 7 point turn required to safely turn around. Thanks for the tip about using a packet soup for a base. Never looked at that. Well definitely give that a go.🙂🐕🚙
Packet soup = cook in sauce for me 😁👍
Thanks for showing us the beautiful scenery in Norway. The waterfalls looked amazing. Somehow, I always like to see what you have to eat! That stew made with the soup looked tasty and the curry!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I spent the day in Flam last August. The weather was great, beautiful surroundings. There was also a rockfall that day. Very loud. Great video as always 👍
I would have loved to hear that 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I managed to record some of it on my phone. At first I thought it was a low flying jet.
Wonderful episode with those amazing waterfalls and scenic views, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Fantastic journey and beautiful scenery. I feel like l went with you both. Thank you for bringing us along ❤ take care.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Wow, loving the scenery and compliments on your driving.
Thanks you guys.
Wee Jimmy
Get well soon ken.xx
I'm so happy for you that you took the mountain road and not the tunnel! I was so afraid you had missed it.
We missed a lot of things we didn’t know about but not this one 😁👍
Got to say there's something 'magical' about water pouring over the rocks it never ceases to make for stunning scenery. The road that you took instead of the tunnel just reminds me of the far north of Scotland what with the scenery & weather etc it makes for a terrific drive especially if its quiet on the roads. As I've said before there must be some very interesting 'altercations' with motor homes & coaches in the holiday season 🤔 excellent as always from the little Red camper & hope you are over the worst Ken from the illness? 👌
Thanks David, Ken is feeling like he is over the worst now. We must re visit Scotland soon, you are right about the scenery 🙂👍
You would love Norway for sure. We thought that about the Naan bread after watching your video tonight 😁
Hej you two, smashing as always! I see you met with the goats to 😊, thanks for the ride.
I’m across the pond and I absolutely love to be in my rv when it rains. I guess that’s why your rainy videos are my favorite. Cheers great video
Yes, it’s a great feeling listening to the rain from the comfort of your campervan/RV 😊
We need to get back to Scotland.
What a lovely video, the scenery is so beautiful.
I can honestly say I am thoroughly enjoying this journey to Norway with you both.
Thank you also hope Ken is feeling a lot better now.
Looking forward to the next video.😊
Well worth all that scary driving for the fantastic views.....even with the clouds and rain. Thank you both.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 🙂
Breathtaking views love the waterfalls x
Simply breathtaking scenery
no cliff hanger finish this week looking for a park up, but plenty of cliffs to hang onto , and those views, even being above the clouds they were spectacular, I don't want this trip/adventure to finish, cheers, Garry from DownUnder
That’s good to hear Garry. Thanks for watching 😀
