What is 'potential' or 'volforce'?
It's like pp in osu I guess. Counts the best scores you've done and calculates them into a rating number. In Arcaea, some part of potential counts your recently set scores. Sound Voltex's Volforce doesn't do that, so it's a lot more like osu's pp system. In Arcaea, players go up to 12.80, in Sound Voltex, volforce goes up to 22.
What is 'dan'?
Dan is a skill level badge you can get if you play in the arcade game (called 'Skill Analyzer' in Sound Voltex, 'Class' in IIDX, 'dan dojo' in taiko no tatsujin).
You get a dan badge by playing a dan course of your choice which consists of 3 songs (4 in IIDX). You have one health gauge for the entire 3 songs in a row, so if you end the first song with 5% health, you start the second song with that same 5% health. Clear the 3/4 songs without failing at any point and you get the badge!
(though in taiko no tatsujin they have 3 requirements, usually health, accuracy or combo and miss count)
The dan levels vary from game to game. Usually it's 1 dan being the lowest skill level and 10 dan being the highest. For Sound Voltex there are 12 dans, 12 dan is called Infinite dan. In IIDX, it's 10 dans, the 10th dan called Kaiden. In taiko no tatsujin, there are 'jin' levels after the dan levels. 'tatsujin' being the highest skill level possible in the game.

OMG Tokaku praised me, but i dont think im super pro rhythm game player. I used to be very good in one hand gameplay, but im just a quite average skilled player (or slightly better than average player) when play with two hands.
Trust me, i have my weakness, my weakness is osu which require tapping by left hand because of past injury of plying rhythm game. Still can play rhythm games with two hand but cnt tap too hard especially pc rhythm games because keyboard tapping still require more power than tapping tablet.
Anyway, I used to be top player in the past. But currently I play rhythm games just because i enjoy playing. Especially Phigros which the line and notes represent the music really really well.
Im actually a notecharter (mapper) which done 200+ maps in O2Jam thats why I have vry deep impression when a game can use its notes to express the music really well. I hope there there is more games in the future can do the same things. Hope the future doesnt disappoint me.

Is it normal to encounter the "left hand" problem for right handed people when playing rhythm games, whereby you could be extremely skilled in right hand, but super awkward on left hand and the way you tap seems weird as compared to right hand?

@@Gl33D YEA ITS SO DUMB literally u can’t unlock cool songs cause hexadiver is locked, the premium time is locked, there’s no power generator, and there’s a lot more we can’t do. Ok heavenly haven is sick tho my favorite is gravity wars.

potential is the kind of thing that will naturally go up as you get better at the game so don't worry about it too much! Just focus on having fun and improving :)

@@Aarreks not really. You try raising it by playing levels that you can't clear and it wont go up. It's actually based off of your recent plays. When you first start playing it will be very easy to raise your potential but after a while you will start to hit roadblocks until you actually either improve scores or clear level difficulties that are harder than what you normally clear.

I know right? I think the Arcaea Wiki website should add a "Potential" page once the Arcaea Potential System's secrets are revealed.
@@danielyuan9862 Wiki has had one since ages ago with everything explained... It really isn't rocket science, it's the average potential of your best 30 scores overall + best 10 recent scores (top 10 out of last 30 played). To help people understand how it works, Arcaea's DEVELOPERS should add a score/potential history in-game instead.
my favorite rhythm game is arcaea. I'm actually proud for finally being able to play some songs level 9. I've played casually for 2+ years. I suck, yeah. But I don't think all the players' average skill level is that much better than mine.
average are 11 ptt, you played for 2 years most players get 11 on months

I'm a new IIDX player (18yo) and I'm at about the same skill level as Tokaku rn! (better accuracy tho, sorry Tokaku you said I could!) I really love it, it takes quite a bit of dedication to get better but the payoff is sooo good, and I'm a drummer that loves complex polyrhythms and shit so of course IIDX is the perfect fit for me. It's just always interesting, for now at least.

before i started playing mania more, i played a lot of robeats! i'd say i'm best at it (along side mania of course) was really bored in feb so i got into it and now i'm decent :) plus, love your vids as always tokaku! always look forward to your uploads :)

Certain rhythm games I've gotten good at rather quickly, for example: Jubeat. When I first played the game I could barely get past a level 5 song, around 5 months later, I beat my first level 10 (max difficulty) song. That's the joy of living near an arcade that has rhythm games (in a country where many of these haven't been officially released there).

I'm not too far behind you in Arcaea, I hover around 10.75ptt and have been working on clearing through the 10's. Arcaea is probably the most invested I've been in a rhythm game, I played DDR up to 9's and Guitar Hero/Rock Band into Hard/low-Expert but I never chased FCs in those games, I would just clear whatever I could without focusing on my accuracy.

When I play etterna there is always a week where I wouldn't gain any rank at all and there is that one week where I would go from an 18 to a 22 over the course of one week

I've been playing Arcaea for like a year or three fourth of the year and I just recently able to pull off FTR 10, and not even AA usually (A is best). 9+ songs still weird af
I do have to agree on this for mania, I’m tachyon dan, delta reform dan and phi joker dan (8th joker) and I went camping for one single week and instantly rusted from 8 stars to 7 stars for 3 days before I derusted. I can just imagine how much you can over a month or over many years

Taiko arcade usually leave their sensivity low because most of the players hits the drum to hard (sadly I'm one of them 😅). And in the long run, they don't need to calibrate the drum too often. Usually pestering them to fix it works (if you're an avid player) but depends on the place I guess.
yeahhh I figured. Though I believe the low sensitivity is because they just haven't set up the machine properly since they got it. Hitting the drum hard shouldn't cause any issues, it's just a software setting, though you'd still slowly wear away at the sensors themselves.
I could just ask them but I couldn't be arsed to troubleshoot where the best sensitivity was before the drum would start doubling inputs >_>
@@tokaku yup, another problem is that the sensor can pop out or wear down (resulting in low detection or dead worse, dead zone). And sometimes there will be holes in the drum itself lol. In the end, I have to play using half of the drum area and hoping to avoid the dead zone. (also I just found out that there is an switch emulation, dunno is if taiko can be played, or even to able to take taiko force lv.5 inupt).

Sadly rythm games demand alot of commitment and time and you even have to train your muscles somewhat. When you cant commit like that anymore, you will fall off and probably never return. Im in uni now and I know I will never get back to my high 5 digit rank in osu
I have that same mindset for OSU!Mania. I started playing like a week ago, and I've been enjoying the 1.5-2.0 star range the most. Now that might change in a couple weeks but I do see what you mean by the higher star maps being spammy. Adding 16th notes when the song only has 8th notes. Kek
My goal is to be able to complete Exit this Earth's Atmosphere 3.7 star by the end of the year. I guess we'll find out if I'm aiming too high by the end of the year lol. I already blew my expectations with my last goal. When I started I made it my goal to beat this 1.76 star song Education with an A by the end of the week and I've already S ranked it in the first 3 days of playing mania and VSRG's for that matter. Worst case scenario at least the 2.93 star(?) version.
1 year later, I main 10k mania. Since SR sucks I'll just state that I'm BMS Dan 7 in 10k if that gives some perspective to how much I improved. Derusting my 4k skills has been really frustrating, I just don't have the physicality any more after maining 10k for like 3 months. I have really good finger control at least Xd. Also fuck the safari in IIDX. 💀
3 months later, got 2 BMS controllers and am learning DP. I'm able to normal clear most of the δ4 maps after a few days. There's not many low level DP charts but I'm slowly getting the hang of it.
I feel like I’m progressing pretty slowly in sdvx I’ve been playing for 3 months and can do 18s I’m arcade only mainly i have controller at home but don’t use it because it’s broken so arcade only player and play once a week

I play CTB, rank #530 ish. I know you will mock me but I don't care :p. I don't feel like it is super impressive, but at the same time it has taken me almost 1,000 hours to get to this level. and you really got me thinking with this tunnel vision perception thing about skill. Who knows.
I really relate on my osu experience.. It's really hard to have fun knowing that I can't play hard maps the way I used to anymore.. (I think I strained my right hand too much that now I can't aim because my hand hurts on jumps)

Oh my goodness my potential is almost the same as yours after 2 years since I didn’t use an account for a whole year and for most of 2022 I didn’t have any paid packs besides crimson core but now I’m 10.80
Arcaea: Used to play a lot, rlly loved the game and its game mechanics, best score was an ex on grievous lady, but now I don’t play as much and have been decaying. Biggest problem with the game rn is for some reason since black fate came out the charters keep spamming cross hand arcs for no reason and many charts are overcharted imo, it’s just rlly awkward and not fun to play cross hand arcs. Current potential is 12.15
Cytus 2: Used to play a lot too, but every update is just a new dlc pack which is annoying. Best score was some easy chaos 15 MM tp 100 can’t rmb which

Cross hand arcs do have a learning curve to them that’s for sure. I don’t see that many of them though. Like, maybe one in every 5-7 new maps. Idk maybe I am just used to them or something so they don’t stand out. And also I’m 11.84 ptt right now.

- In this game i started not too long ago. I started hell but eventually get better. Now i do level 15's getting full combo (my leftovers are igallta and non melodic ragez, and both IN and AT of Cthugha) I play on a a big ipad with only 2 fingers used (more finger for those catch catch notes) Im starting to PHI some level 13's and below. Honeslty i can call myself a *good* player right now and yeah i mean it. Phigros is like my main game right now but im having some problems (my hand) My hands idk why but my pinky finger hurts so bad when im trying to pose it for playing phigros and i can't bear it. That's why im resting from phigros so long now and idk if my skill is still there or it slowly decaying now.
(Cytus 2 - *For me this is THE best one*)
- So cytus 2! I starting in dec. 2020 and actually a fun my first rhythm game ever played is a deleted copy of ADOFI which is beat tiles (PLS TELL ME IF THERES WAY TO PLAY THAT GAME AGAIN!) And im a GOD at it!! Max Score on all levels (easy and hard) and once theres a update i perfect it immediately! I miss the game so much. Now back to cytus 2, im also a pro at the game 90% of levels in the F2P section is MM (with a good TP) but suddenly it must be deleted. Since my storage of my phone is lacking (and sadly cytus 2 is the cause of it) it needs to deleted and restart the phone completely! So my saved progress is gone now. I play on a phone (A20) and play thumbs of course. I just missed the game but sadly it's quite boring ot beat it again (the story) and it's quite boring to level up the characters again to max level since it gives less and im just MM them all over again. But maybe someday i will re-do it again with some confidence to take it back once i hold in the old times. The story is sad and good at the same time (especially the story of PAFF/AROMA) and yeah, great game and i wish that i can paid the paid ones in the future.
So yeah this is my tow rhythm games that im so good to play, so now im playing other rhythm games like finky friday at roblox, Osu! And more.

i mostly play etterna but have started playing quaver a lot more recently
in etterna i play for AAs in the 26-27 msd range (so approx low 6 star stuff for you osu mania nerds out there)
my technicality and stamina is really good but my raw speed isnt quite there and im completely useless at chordjacks
in quaver im mostly either playing catch up on lns (can barely s rank 6th ln dan rn), honing my sv skills or farming ranks (i can s+/fc most 30s from my experience)

Taiko (switch) has become my go to rhythm game. I am about an 7-8* for hard maps, and a 6-7* for oni maps. I'm not great but I've been getting better lately since I the hori drum and started playing almost everyday
I can do a few expert levels on beatsaber, level 10 max on robeats... your reaction time seems to be way better than me. I dont spend my whole life on rythm games, in fact I usually switch between game genres atleast 3 times per year. This year I’ve done rythm, platformer, scary/horror, I played one bullet hecc recently which was fun but I found out the developers never gonna finish making the game
it's so true how being rusty affects enjoyment, I pretty much can barely play osu anymore because I don't have the time to maintain any skill level. my highest rank was like 2000 in 2014 lol

I used to be quite high ranked in DJ Hero 2 for a while. Now I haven't played the game in a long time due to possible RSI, I've switched to Stepmania
I actually bought the Taiko no Tatsujin for the Nintendo Switch not too long ago.
The game is really fun and I am currently trying to see if I can get the official drum for my birthday.
I only recently started getting back into rhythm games. I mainly play muse dash and taiko when I have the time but I'm mostly a casual player.

I just started playing Sound Voltex. I have been playing for 2 days now (maybe 7 hours?) or so and I still play with KB because my controller has not arrived yet. Currently the most I can do is barely clear 14s but I mainly play 12s. I have 1 uc S on a 12. I hope I can get better to beat like 15s or maaaayybe 16s before the controller arrives but we'll see. Have not tried any of the dans yet
I play Sonolus (basically Bang Dream but with custom maps by people) and i recently just got a 19 miss and 18 bad on Raise My Sword. I was ecstatic. My recent best run was a 25 miss and like 20+ bads. I'd say im above average but nothing TOO crazy.
Some additional info: Raise My Sword was one of the most stamina dependent maps I saved back then and still is. My arm was so tense whenever i played. Also a thumb player so I don't have the luxury of, y'know, more fingers

i’ve only played super popular stuff like osu! (several versions), arcaea, rhythm heaven, etc. one of my favorites is patapon for the psp. i’m mediocre at most everything but i’m best at osu- even then i mostly get B rank on normal maps

the whole bit with rust is what happened to me with tf2. i played the game basically nonstop for 3 years a and near i started playing competitively in a league and then i had to quit because i could not juggle playing competitive with school and now that the game is more accessible i'm super rusted and i get really upset with myself when i don't play at my peak. so i still play casually every once in a while but i haven't touched comp in a while and have decided to take a break and play rhythm games cause in rhythm games i'm the only one to blame when i do bad and it makes it a little more bearable then having to hope my 8 other teammates don't fuck me over

I had “the rust experience” in multiple games,
Stopped playing Cytus II after finishing 3.0, played again during 4.0 and could not MM 14s and 15s until trying to regain back the skill.
Stopped playing Arcaea way back to the point that I can’t really remember, played again a few weeks after Beyond charts became existent, I could not do the arcs properly.
Stopped playing Osu due to school reasons, bad laptop (it’s one of those that people usually say “main use is for working or school stuff”), came back and I couldn’t even do 5*s, nowadays I only do Osu!Mania and Osu!Taiko.
Stopped playing Phigros after Burn SP (Haocore Mix), came back a year after for Spasmodic SP, could not AP 15s anymore, that is until I got it back by repeatedly playing every chart in the GOOD selection.
As for my skill in rhythm games,
Cytus (I & II): I’m close to having an FC on the new Crash charts, that good I guess?
Arcaea: Potential 9, never raised it up because I only wanted the Beyond charts.
Osu: still 4 stars and probably 5 star DT, kinda gave up though.
Osu!Mania: 4k maps that aren’t spammy, starting to learn and pass through 5k and 6k pretty well.
Osu!Taiko: I’m at my absolute worst here, I can’t read one-line well.
Prigros: I stuck my app version in the 2021 April Fools, I’m determined to at least FC Spasmodic SP since I’m very close, recently got lower than 10 miss near the end.
To summarize my skill, I’m pretty average, I’m not good at PC rhythm games but I excel more in mobile rhythm games. The weird feeling of having to be better because you’re tapping on the note directly rather than just looking at it and not tapping directly on where it is.
I play a lot more rhythm games than the ones I put here, but as said in the video, I don’t really have much play time on the other rhythm games so I don’t have an accurate way to determine it.

I got Osu like 4 days ago and I use a Star G860S XP-pen Drawing tablet and I was wondering what drawing tablet one do you use? My tablet is good but sometimes it is not Responsieve (Also I love your vids😄.)

Buying packs do help with increasing potential since it increases the amount of lv 9s you own. It's possible bump potential into 10.7 ish just by having a ton of lv 9s
Buying song packs definitely helps, but trying to get EX+ on the songs you can, might be the easiest way to increase potential in my opinion

@@qilinit I personally have no specific pack to pick, because lowiro distribute the difficulty across packs quite evenly. But I won't be consider packs that are too hard, like Chunithm pack, when my ptt was at 10s.

I feel the same way about TF2 (Team Fortress 2) I've played that game ever since 2011, and I've had some points in life I had to take breaks from playing, and I am now so rusty and just bad at the game. I can't do any of the old tech's I used to, my aim has gotten extremely awful, everything. It makes trying to get back into the game really difficult. But the game also has a crisis of cheaters and bots right now which really makes it hard to get back into it too. It's rough.

There's a huge wall starting 4 stars that just feels like note spam I tend to only stick to 3 stars because of that

Sometimes I have the feeling like they don't know the games well enough to calibrate them.
In one arcade in Italy they had a StepMania or ITG machine with about 400ms lag.
And I'm pretty sure that was not intentionally, so we went up to them and asked if we could calibrate the thing and we were allowed to so so. It got a lot better, still not perfect, but hey.

I'm mostly a Cytus 2 player nowadays, but I also still play 4k rhythm games (mix of fnf and osu mania, i like some of the songs in fnf), Phigros, Muse Dash, and Groove Coaster when the pandemic wasn't a thing. In Cytus, I can MM most of the easier chaos 14s, and overall have pretty high TP (usually like 98-99 on most songs), so I'd say im decent but not like great. I don't TP 100 things either.
I'm like rank 70k on osu mania and really only play low 3* charts because I'm bad
Phigros I mostly just play 13s and 14s, usually songs I really. I can fc some 14s.
Muse Dash I can fc some Master 10s, but that's about it.
Groove Coaster I mostly play like hard 9s and 10s, I'm not that good I just really enjoy the game.
Oh also my potential in arcaea is 7.06 lmfao I don't play it much
I started playing osu in May of 2021, I started playing standard osu but later I was playing really bad, but when I play manía I was in godmode so I play more mania instead of standard
used to be 2 digit in mania but then DT pp came along, as well as 4k and 7k having separate leaderboards, now i'm 4 digit in 4k
I'm a beatmania boomer. I started on PS1, then transitioned to IIDX on PS2. I had a konami pad and a djdao "real" one. My skill was somewhere around 10-11 (only pass, not fc). While I was seen as a total freak irl (gamers weren't cool back then), I felt like an absolute loser when i saw other IIDX players online. Nowadays, I just play rhythm games casually. I find having fun more important than being amazing. I think that's the most important thing I can tell other people: Just have fun. Once it starts to feel like a grind, you're not having fun anymore. Being good for the sake of being good has no value. It needs to be fun. That's why we play those games. And if you're not meant to be amazing, who cares? Just play easier levels. It's a game, not a job (unless playing these games is literally your job).
