  • I recently found my friends original phat PS2 in his basement while going through some junk and he said I could have it since it doesn't play God Of War specifically.
I mostly wanted the console for my collection and knew I'd not use it too often anyway so I snagged it and decided to clean out all the dust and make it look pretty before putting it on the shelf.
I'd like to mod it sometime, but for now, cleaning is enough.
This PlayStation 2 is model SCPH-50010

Great job. I have a 30001 phat ps2 and it has a split motherboard and thick solid aluminum heat sync. To replace the cmos battery, you have to desolder 4 pins to separate the 2 motherboards. Crazy. But it was fun.

Thanks! I find it neat how different the variations of one console can be on the inside. I didn't bother even changing the CMOS in this one yet since its mostly for display

I have a quick question I have a ps2 fat model and the problem with it is even when plugged in and the switch in turned to on the red light doesn't come on at all it's like it's completely dead and I've tried other cords does anyone know if that's a simple fix or not because I'd love to play my old school games again any help/suggestions would be appreciated thank you.

A new cord could work, but the power supply in the console may be dead and need a replacement.

I second this, probably an issue on the power board

Hate to break it to you... but this was not a restore. It was a cleaning. And you should of took a brush to the whole top not just the logo. Also, you did not use IPA to clean. Just so much you could of done better.

Keep in mind just because things aren't recorded doesn't mean they aren't done, was just a fun video I enjoyed making, if you'd like a tutorial there's plenty more on other channels!

@@freeshrimp I wasn't saying it in a bad way. I was saying there was a lot more you could of done. Such as replace the caps, use some BW-100 on the main board. Clean the pins. The outside of the case should of been put into hot soapy water and let soak then washing with a soft Brisiel brush. I used to restore old consoles so was giving some advice. You did a good job.

Thank you! I do plan on doing all that eventually and lots of IPA cleaning was done off camera. For now it was just so it looked good in the collection, and full restoration will be done when it inevitably gets modded in the future!

@@freeshrimp Looking forward to the video then. Sorry if I came off rude.
