The only time I would ever tell someone that I didn't like an aspect of their wedding is if a) I'm asked AND b) it's something they can change (i.e. the flowers haven't been ordered yet and the bride/groom wants my opinion OR c) it is immoral (i.e. one of my friends wanted to get married on a former plantation).
I feel like the pandemic showed us who people really were. I cleaned house big time both literally and metaphorically.
Reached the point where "there's no cure for stupid, but death helps" has become my mantra during this pandemic. Can't handle engaging anymore!

I totally agree with the home decor stuff! A lot of people try to argue about "resale value" but most things can be easily replaced/painted over, etc. if/when you do sell the house if it really is that bad. Your house should be a cozy place for YOU and your family to live and feel at home, so do whatever you want :)
it’s the same with my car! i put stickers on it and people said i wouldn’t be able to resell it. like i drive a 2008 car from a company that doesn’t exist anymore and it has 130,000 miles i’m not reselling it i’m driving that bitch till it dies

@@saggguy7 because a lot of the time people don't start out with enough money to buy a home that they will live in until they die, so they buy a house that will work for them currently and as their life changes they move.
Exactly! I moved this year from a large house with crazy color walls. My mom is an artist so we had murals and brought colors and fun chandelier because it is what made us happy! We still sold the house without covering a mural! Basically just fo what makes you happy
I’m with you! I’ve put off painting most of my house for almost 2 years (it’s literally white and I hate it) because people keep telling me the colors I’m picking (green, purple, blue, yellow, etc) in different rooms would be “too much” or “too dark” for some people and might hurt resale. I finally came to the realization that this is MY house and why TF should I care about some hypothetical people who might buy my house one day? It’s paint. They can repaint if they don’t like it. I’m over it.
I really feel like people forget that our homes are our safe spaces, places to really be ourselves, a sanctuary. How can you come into someone’s home, a reflection of themselves and openly criticize it to that person? If you want a disco ball in the living room, do it. If you want a pink velvet couch, do it. There is not a type of home that you have to have to be qualified as an adult. The whole point is for it to be YOUR space. I work all day to afford my home and whatever is in it and I’ll be damned if I let someone who has no hand it try to tell me how it should look.

I’m tired of these big companies or celebs getting away with stuff that most of the time is illegal and should be cancelled altogether.
I’m tired of Karens, I know that’s silly but I’m high key tired of them lol
I’m tired of Instagram pushing the idea that a normal everyday person isn’t good enough and keeps pushing bodybuilders, models and other stuff just to make them feel bad. No, people should be happy with themselves and shouldn’t be comparing themselves.
I’m tired of being a pushover, like I’m always too kind, too nice and too much of a doormat, I need to stand up for myself. Like I need to snap back sometimes because it’s at a point where out of 21 years of my life, I feel drained and not mentally sound from being used and walked over.
Stand. Up. For. YOURSELF.
I am a 40 year old, married, Mama of 4... small town bullshit gossip about me because I'm heavily tattooed and have a Mohawk. Not accepted around here. I have realized that "their" opinions about me DO NOT matter. I'm a good woman. I'm a damn good nurse and my patients families love me. ❤ Fuck the haters and do you, babe. Be a good person with a good heart. That's all you need to worry about.

It gets better and in the end, what counts is what you think about yourself. People love you for who you are or they don't deserve you. Boundaries are necessary, good luck on your journey!!!
There’s this little mantra I seen online that’s been helping me keep the house tidy- “Don’t put it down. Put it away.”
Take the extra 7 seconds and return items to their rightful place when you’re done with it, rather than set it down some random place, creating a mess and more work for yourself later.
I’m a grown woman and I recently moved house, and I painted my room pastel pink, it’s decorated with barbie dolls and my little ponies and almost everything in it is pastel and cutesy. I’ve only shown it to a handful of people because I’m a very private person, so I’ve been lucky that the most negative response I’ve got is just visible shock and confusion - but I’m trying to not let it hurt me like I did in my last home, because like you said, who cares, it literally doesn’t affect anyone but me
Why do people judge people for continuing to like something into adulthood. I still like stuffed animals, pusheen, and pastels and I feel like a lot of people in my family judge me for it. Who cares what people like? As long as it’s not hurting anyone or themselves don’t see why it matters.

They did a great job with Don't Look Up. There's no other way they should have gone with it than completely on the nose because that is quite literally where we are at as a nation and it should be terrifying.

Weddings bring out the WORST in people who are unhappy/anxious and lacking the self control to cope. Self control and emotional intelligence is so important to master in order to act like a grown up who can seem happy for others. I know happy things can make us sad irrationally if we’re struggling with serotonin imbalances, but a joyous event like a wedding is not OUR thing to take it out on.
Weddings are like an ink blot test to show the cynical critic all the negativity they feel. I think society has let it be a “permissible” event for a$$holes to make it about themselves because there’s a bride (a woman/femme) you can blame on for being a selfish “bridezilla,” and women/femmes are socialized to care about being perceived kindly, so it works out well as their cultural scapegoat. brides need more support and love. I love you and your weddings, beautiful brides. Enjoy your heart felt vows and romantic receptions. forget your grumpy guests, it’s your day, lovelies.
THIS!!! My friend’s best friend nearly ruined her wedding. She was supposed to be the maid of honor but criticized every aspect of the wedding: the venue, the bachelor/bachelorette parties, the cake. She literally complained that the bachelor party idea of camping was lame. Then despite the fact that my friend’s husband is the kindest man who has made her happier than I’ve ever seen her and is so perfect for her, the maid of honor pulled her aside at her shower and asked if she was sure she didn’t want to marry someone better looking. She was never like that until the wedding. Luckily my friend is the strongest person I know and kicked her out of the wedding and cut her out. I just can’t stand people who make other people’s weddings about them. It’s not your day to be happy with!

Along the lines of the home decor being deeply personal: so is making the decision to rent vs buy! My fiancé and I tried to get a house (put in multiple offers, above asking price) and lost out on everything, so we ultimately decided to rent (among other reasons as well). I used to be in the camp that buying > renting but truly renting was the right decision for us. The amount of acquaintances, coworkers, even family who’ve shamed us for renting… it’s insane! It is so deeply personal like you said. No time!
Outside of buying an tv or camper and putting it on land, I will likely be a renter for life. The idea of something in my living space going to hell (flood, mold, floor damage, busted pipe, busted AC, new appliances, it literally goes on forever) and me being solely responsible for that is horrifying to me. When you rent they have to have maintenance available. But as a homeowner you have to beg for an independent “fixer” to do that and sometimes takes weeks to months. That’s so scary to me and the cons of that are much heavier to me personally than the pros. I understand it’s different for many people but I’m team rent lmao
Re: house/wedding/etc shamers who are like “oh you’ll regret that” ... first of all none of your business second of all like. Okay?? What if I do??? It’s not the end of the world. “You’ll regret painting your walls that color” ok then I’ll change it? It makes me happy now. If I change my mind I’ll do what makes me happy then. Why should I settle when I can keep evolving and changing my space to match and be happy? Why should I be okay with beige walls when I could have pink walls that I LOVE?

I just can’t imagine caring that much about anyone elses living space. Like if I don’t have to live there, don’t have to financially or physically contribute, I so do not care. Be as tacky as you want, it aint my house 😂 and I can keep that opinion to myself
I remember a hair stylist once telling me red in my hair would make my skin look red (I have a pink hue in my fair skin) and lo and behold I dyed my hair red one day and it was beautiful. She was wrong. And it's just hair. Like house walls, you can paint again of the color doesn't work out.
I also loved Don't Look Up! I know a lot of reviews complained about how "heavy-handed" it was... but there are topics, especially this time, when you have to heavy handed for the information to go through. I found the movie so eerily accurete, too!

I don’t have time for selfish people who refuse to help stop the spread of COVID. I don’t have time for people who treat service industry and retail workers like crap because “they’re better” when they are absolutely not. And I especially don’t have time for people who don’t call out their favorite celebrities or “influencers” for doing disgusting things.

I find neutral so boring. Everyones homes looking the same is not interesting at all to me. I'd love to see outsides of homes painted bright colours and art displayed on buildings etc. "Modern" seems to equal depressing looking a lot of the time.
I was literally having this conversation with my partner! 👌🏽We LOVE colour, especially during the dark and depressing Canadian winters, so we have a living room wall plastered in wallpaper that is covered in lemons and oranges 🤪💖 For me personally, I get LESS interested in seeing peoples’ home decor that is mainly neutral colours. It’s not that I can’t appreciate a neutral colour palette, but I personally want my home to be fun and colorful🥰💖
Even in clothing, I find neutrals boring. At least have a pop of color somewhere.
I agree. I love the idea of her bedroom being black and her living room green. I had a friend that had a red room with black borders and it was gorgeous. Hopefully someday I can get my own room and decorate it the way I want.
I don’t think homes have to be “interesting” though, as long as the people living there enjoy it then that’s what matters. They shouldn’t have to compare it to other homes and try to make it purposefully different. Who care if other people find what you enjoy boring?
That goes for people who want to do something really out there with decorating too. Even if other people don’t get it they’re not the ones living there anyway.

During COVID we got a giant dumpster and cleaned the fuck out of our house. I was floored by how much junk we had. The house really is just stuff we love now. It made everything easier.

Invest in a roomba! Omg I would vacuum once a week and my vacuum would get clogged up every effing time from cat hair. I have three cats. I got so sick of tearing my vacuum apart. I know I could vacuum more often but I was working two jobs which barely left me with 5 hours of sleep each night. Then, last Christmas I bought myself a roomba and all I can say is Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! I just turn it on and let it go every morning now. It picks up SO much. I don't have to lift a finger except to empty it each morning which takes all of 30 seconds. It never gets clogged because there's no long hose for stuff to collect. It goes straight from the floor to the container and when it's full it docks itself. No clogs. No mess. No time out of my day and my floors are always clean. Best investment ever!

I have to have my hip replaced on Monday, and I'm terrified to spend even one day in my local hospital that is *full* due to covid cases. Love your point about home decor. Also- when becoming a homeowner you realize the literal cost of home decor and how much it can take to make a space cozy and liveable. It’s incredibly classist to shame people for the way they make their spaces safe and accessible for their needs. What a blessing it is to be able to dwell in a space. Let’s spend some time expressing gratitude to those who trust us when they share their safe spaces with us.

Ugh I needed this. I just tested positive for covid yesterday despite being fully vaxxed and boostered, and constantly wearing my mask and sanitising. It's extra frustrating because where I live (in Hawaii) we have mask mandates and vaccines are required to enter most establishments, and neither me or anybody I know has gotten covid. But AS SOON as I return to my anti-mask hometown for the holidays, I get sick. Now I'm locked in a room for the next week. Loving life rn :) Wishing everyone a safe and healthy new year!

I said wait I don’t live in Hawaii and I’m not Lizzy. 😂 Very similar situation though. I tested positive on Thursday and I honestly don’t know how. I’m sick with mostly neurological symptoms but others too. The thing is,
I know people are way in worse condition than me. I’m over it. I’m frustrated and disappointed in humans. I’ll just say we did the best we could but I guess it was just our time. Amen about the paint! My partner and I had the same thing, we bought a house in 2021 and painted it darker colours. You buy a forever home and people act like you need to make it a stark white cookie cutter house for 'resale value'. I love our dark moody colours. They feel cosy, they feel like a home, not an office or a gallery or a hospital.
About the home decor/paint choices doubters...Listen, my living room is a deep rich turquoise and you would think by people's reactions that it is super scandalous. I heard how I should have painted it beige, how nothing would ever match it, how it would make holiday decorating difficult, how it would be too dark. Blah, blah, blah. I freaking love it. It is cozy, unique and beautiful. It looks awesome year round and I have no time for anyone else's opinion. (Also, your paint choices were stunning!!) I am not a safe, neutral colors person. The rest of the world just has to deal with it!
Turquoise is my go-to so it's literally my neutral LOL. I really don't get the point of thinking of resale value when it's *your* house. *Maybe* for large projects like remodels because those are investments and take a of time, but a can of paint? Play around! Have fun! See what's up!

Agree. Plus if you have to sell eventually and the paint becomes a deal-breaker for buyers, you can always just .... paint over it. It's really not a huge deal. I think people enjoy shitting on others and hide behind "resale value" to seem less terrible.
I painted my kitchen navy, my powder room periwinkle, and my bedroom green in my old house and everyone was just going to have to not visit if they didn't like it.
and also, paint is so easy to change out if you get tired of it! for me, light baby robins egg blue is my go to for like, everything haha. i saw kendall jenners bathroom in AD and she had this deep teal/turquoise tile covering her bathroom with gold detailing. it made me fall in love with that color combo because i am so scared of color

I agree so so much. I hope you are doing well Kiki. I tested positive for Covid on Thursday after two years of trying my best to keep it away. I’m grocery store worker who has had to endure the crazy deniers on a daily basis while working so hard under very stressful conditions. I’m vaccinated and still feel horrible…physically and emotionally. I’m so disappointed in human beings. I’ll get through this but I’m just sad. How do you cope with long Covid? I’m so sorry. 😔

I’m battling and I’m confident I will get through it but boy oh boy. It’s hard at this point to see how we won’t be deeply impacted as whole without more compassion and people making better decisions. decor stuff is so true! my room literally has christmas decor all year round. everyone i know judges me for it but i could not care less because it makes my heart so happy. christmas is my favorite holiday and favorite time of year so i love having the constant reminder of it.

My living room is avocado green and my bedroom is dark pine green. I’m a huge fan of all the colors and whether it’s dark or bright. If it makes you happy then go for it!
My granny (who was basically my mom) passed away in May of this year; one of my coping mechanisms at the time was organizing my room and I was very set on wanting to paint my walls this bright, strawberry pink. I got shit for it for literal months lmao even though it's my room (like, my grandma inherited it to me), so I'm gonna do whatever tf I want with it! I love how it turned out once everything was in its place and it makes me very happy to be there; also, I'm glad I was able to truly make it my space, 'cause then it felt safe to let all my sadness and sorrow come out.

I didn't see my best friend for over a year and couldn't until both of our households were entirely vaccinated. He's a multiple-time cancer survivor, and our biggest fear was that covid would straight up murder him. Not even kidding, his own sister still won't get vaccinated! And now she has the nerve to whine about how unfair it was to her and her kids that they weren't allowed to join in family holidays this year. I also have no time for this nonsense or for anyone who puts themselves over the health and lives of everyone around them.

I am a relatively healthy young woman who is an essential worker (at a damn grocery store…only having had hazard pay for 3 months out of 2 years) who has had to work my ass off while listening to people whine and complain about wearing a mask in for 10 minutes while shopping and not being able to purchase the goat milk or papayas they so desperately need. I’m double vaxxed and a week and half away from a booster appointment. I’ve done my best to stay healthy and what do you know…I tested positive for Covid yesterday. So many of my coworkers have been and are currently sick. I’m at home by myself really ill and struggling. Pretty sure I got it at work. I understand your frustration many times over. I feel you. I am a cook and I just tested positive, and while my workplace allows me to stay home, I dont get paid for a week. So now I am out a weeks worth of money and I have to stay home. With covid, everyone loses.

I've been an essential worker since day 1 as well (daycare) and our "Thank you for being essential" was donuts. No hazard pay no raise. Just donuts. I have since switched to a new daycare where they actually give a damn about us and actually have at home tests for us if we feel under the weather to calm our minds. I remember one of our parents who works from home complained about wearing a mask to pick up... I'm like I wear this for 10 hours while watching your baby... it's so hard to be expressive with singing to a baby with a mask. So annoying
Seriously, thank you SO much. I'm immune compromised. My own parents were already inconsiderate assholes about my chronic illness before the pandemic, and have gotten infinitely worse because of this pandemic. I'm so tired of gaf about being polite when I'm in pain, or trying explain my illness when they should know damn well by now (it's been 4 years ffs). If you're passionate or excited about a certain topic, it'll show through, so something that might not normally be clickable for me is something I'd try anyway because of how you present things. I’m coming from a hoarder home so decluttering is always on my mind for my house. On one hand I want to be minimalist and on the other hand I try not to hyper-obsess over decluttering as if it will magically solve all my problems.
Hannah, if you don't already have one, consider getting a Roomba. My aunt bought us one (it was on sale at Target around $200 or less) it has changed my life so much. I too, am in the boat of always feeling like my house is unpresentable, or I'm cluttered because I'm just not organized yet, but I have a dog and cat so there is ALWAYS hair on the floor. The Roomba is a lifesaver. I run mine every day, and the dirt and hair it picks up is satisfying.

Yes! My 14 yo has type 1 diabetes, which is an auto immune disease. People seem to think diabetes is a choice. No, my daughters pancreas produces no insulin, her immune system is fucked and she gets sick so easily and so much longer than most children. She is vaccinated, but her friends aren't. She is in fear everyday and im sick of it too

I'm immunocompromised and I really appreciated you bringing that up! I have been incredibly isolated out of necessity, but also incredibly frustrated watching so much of the world literally just not care about how their actions affect others. I've had people in my life who I thought were friends and who I thought cared about me actually get angry at me for turning down party invitations that I can't attend because I am immunocompromised...
I get it. I’ve dove my best with all this and ended testing positive on Thursday. Im by myself having crossed over into the New Year. I will be isolated for the next few days at least. I don’t feel well at all but I’ll get through it but boy am I frustrated. I hope this isn’t the straw that’s gonna break me. The Covid topic is upsetting. Trust your instincts Hannah; you are ALWAYS right on. Every time I write or give a sermon it’s because I’m interested in the topic and I trust that one other person will be as well. I had a professor in college who said if a class/lesson touches one person, she’s happy. Fortunately, I’ve learned in 26 years of doing this work, my instincts are worth trusting because many people are interested in what bothers me or what questions I have . . . .Happy New Year to you and Charles!!!
My best organisation tip is ALL THE BOXES, BAGS, ETC MUST BE CLEAR/TRANSPARENT.
I use loads of strong nylon zipper bags. They last for years, and it's so much easier and motivational. You don't need labels etc
Just be able to SEE all the stuff helps do much. Otherwise I'll get surprised by what's inside everytime I open it, despite labels.
about the content limits: this is totally a guess, but in my opinion you’ve been putting out a lot more content focused on ethical and social issues (i guess partly bc now we’re talking about crimes not drama) and maybe a lot of your new subs have come as a result of that, myself included! i love that your niche includes this sort of commentary and i’d encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing!
In 2022 I don’t have time to argue about the importance of empathy, or how sometimes it’s important to do something because it does no harm to you and it’s just the kind and decent thing to do (for example respecting someone’s pronouns)

I can soooo relate with the having too much stuff point. I moved to a new apartment last spring and couldn't believe how much random stuff I had, like it was low key embarrassing. It was really eye opening and made me more conscious when it comes to buying things I might not need. It's really difficult for me to get rid of things but I'm working on it. Hopefully next time I move I will have a fraction of the boxes I had last time.

I could watch you talk about anything and be interested 😂 I like your semi-resolution in staying organized and keeping stuff that brings you joy even if it's more than others choose to have, that's something I've struggled with in that minimalism trend going around. I have stuff that genuinely makes me happy but it's more than what some people have and I sometimes feel bad and hoarder-like but I think as long as it's stuff you like and it's not over-consumption/environmentally bad you should be allowed to have as much as what makes you happy!

I totally feel you with the decluttering! I just moved this year and got rid of so much and it was really nice. I got rid of so many clothes, shoes, random items. It was very liberating and I have a newfound perspective on what motivates my purchases!

I feel ya on the COVID-19 stuff. I've worked in a 100% infection facility and work in a jail where cases still come up. Not to mention, lost my best friend 1/2/21 who contracted COVID-19 while in the hospital which was too much for his body to handle. Shit is real. People need to do their part.

Recently I saw on russian twitter that people were being shamed for having furniture from Ikea. Fortunately a lot of people called out those "interior designers" cuz Ikea furniture 1) looks good 2) is relatively cheap 3) is easy to put together.

I have tables etc that I picked up from the curb, goodwill, Craigslist. Who cares where anything comes from. As long as the person likes what they have , that's all that matters.

I love this list... Everything you're cutting feels so necessary, and there's honestly no reason to put up with so much of this stuff any longer. Also, I think a lot of people have heard of Marie Kondo by now, but if you haven't, I super recommend checking out her book! (Preferably from your local library; they need the support) The way she talks about finding what you really love and what speaks to you and how to let go of what doesn't is really good. I think it's a fantastic read for anyone who wants to declutter so they can enjoy more of the stuff they have~
