  • For a good understanding of how your GY6 engine enricher(automatic choke) operates, and how to test it, watch this video. The enricher shown in this video(which is a wax motor) was removed in perfect working order from my 150cc/QMJ157 GY6 scooter. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them in the comment section.
    Thanks For Watching!

    I always wondered how that worked. I had to fit a new carb to my quad and from watching your video I could see that the old carb choke had never worked. Thanks for such a great and clear explanation of the system.

    Many years ago, Frigidaire refrigerators that had an ice dispenser in the freezer door had a device like this that opened the chute door so ice could pass out into a cup. Frigidaire called the device a "hot wax motor". - - In that application it was powered by 120 volts AC here in America. They were reasonably dependable. - - Thanks for your videos.

    I love your engine examples. 150 cc, Model IP57QMJ. I have a Xinba in a 2018 IceBear Cyclone trike. Doesn't burn a drop of oil, and even though I have to warm the One Cylinder up to stay running, the 80 miles to the gallon and at 3/4 throttle it's going a smooth 50+, with 11 or 12 grams rollers, gets off fast, then ease it along up to fifty.

    I was scratching my head off figuring out how it works. On disassembly i found a metal coated disc sandwitched between two wires. I thought it was a piezoelectric device which would only work on certain voltage and frequency. Now i know that it was just a heating element which would melt and expand the wax inside the copper housing pushing the plunger outward.

      I understand slow upload speeds believe me. But I think they worth their time (perhaps uploading at night while you sleep) since you have undergone all this effort for the video. I think 720p is enough but its the transcoding algorithm youtube uses that blurs the video.

    7.5 ohms on mine. Also same on another vid. Mine has a ballast resistor. Yours may not Manufacturer may use higher ohms instead of resister to limit current. Like you stated, there are differences between applications. I would say one is good down to maybe 4 ohms. Check to see if there is movement in a couple mniutes when voltage we is applied

    When my scooter warms up after a few minutes of riding it's power output seems to falter. Barring all other possibilities Would this be an indication of a faulty choke?

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  Před 9 lety +1

      Sounds like carburetor issues. You can try removing the choke and covering the holes with a metal plate. If the problem goes away, then the choke is the problem. Make sure you warm up the engine, or remove the choke on a warm day, otherwise it will be hard to start up the engine.

    guessin choke works like car thermostat , expanding wax when hot in a small metal box . wonder if it can get stuck in open position so starting will not work and better to loosen choke screws and lift it out a bit to see if starts.

    My TaoTao 50cc scooter has been really hard to start after 1 yr ownership. I live in FL in a warm environement. When cranking cold, it fires and putts once or twice before dying, I time having to roll it down the driveway, tickling the throttle until it goes due to the engaging of the autobelt/clutch as it catches.. After it tries to die as I give it gas into a corner, it'll rev up and after 3-4 minutes of continuous running, no issues starting or idling anymore. I pulled the automatic enricher out and measured like you did. It's 3/4" cold.. When I turn on the key, it does not move so I assume that the scooter has to be started before the pin will expand down? I use nothing but 100% gas (no 10% ethanol mix).
    I don't think the automatic enricher is bad. Maybe a carb jet or air/fuel adjustment at cold start? What are your thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Having a problem with cold idle on my 49cc scooter. When it first fires up it runs ok for a few seconds then the idle goes up and down and usually stalls. If I touch the throttle at all, it stalls out and is difficult to start again. Could this be a choke problem or a mixture problem? I just bought the scooter in May of 2014. Once it's warmed up it runs fine.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  Před 9 lety +1

      You should not have to touch the mixture screw. I would inspect the o-ring on the enricher, and if it is OK, then suspect a carb problem.

    • @stanleycorr1839
      @stanleycorr1839 Před 6 lety

      It gets power from the stator on the crankshaft. As you throttle up the engine spins faster and the stator will produce a higher voltage. It isn't powered from the battery so no fixed voltage. It makes sense tho because if your engine is throttled up then it'll warm up faster so needing less time with the choke on.

This Valve is not a thermostat, when you turn on the bike the Valve needle start to go outside for about two minute, the needle function is to stop air flow and slow down the motor revolution.. The needle will stay in his same position while the engine is on (There´s not fluctuation, the voltage will stay constant at 12 V on his terminals), when you turn off the engine the Needle back to the inside position.. I am Right? if so, i just only connect one cable to ground and another to some cable that depend of the Start voltage after use the Bike Switch on "ON".. I just need to know that for make it myself.. Is there a possibility that the auto choke is causing my carb to flood during that period that’s why it bogs like there’s too much gas from the choke?thanks

      The headlight and enricher operate using AC off the stator. The enricher will also work using DC as shown in the video. The enricher is a resistive device which creates heat in order to expand wax driving the piston outward. Should work fine no matter how you connect it up. The yellow wire is normally connected to the yellow wire from the stator.

Once it warmed up the voltage dropped to .1 and then the bike died, as she always does. Should I be reading around 12 volts during this operational test? I can manually route 12 volts to it if I need to. My scoot is unusable because of whatever the issue is and I now believe this is where the problem lies. Thank you in advance. 🙂

    Hi - I have a 2012 zuma 50. Starts, idles, and goes on 1-3 mile trips perfectly. After a little longer trip it does not want to idle and will cut off eventually. Starts right back up and if you get into the throttle right away it will run fine to get you home. The hotter the engine gets the quicker its wants to cut off. After it sits for 10 minutes, it will idle just fine again. Does this sound like an enricher issue? Thx

      Hello Tom. You can try ruling out enricher leaks by making a small plate to cover up the holes out of sheet copper from a hobby shop to go between the carburetor body and enricher base that the enricher pushes into. Once reassembled remove the enricher and give it a try. Also inspect the intake manifold for cracks/leaks and valve adjustment according to my other video.
