- Back in August, DSP proclaimed that Starfield was going to be the biggest game of the year, and that Baldur's Gate 3 will be forgotten about once Starfield comes out. Well, the Game Awards happened, and guess what? Baldur's Gate 3 won Game of the Year, and Starfield wasn't even nominated. Oops!

Because it's a really simplified action-RPG that doesn't require a whole lot of thought or effort, and that's what DSP wants out of the games he plays. There's nothing wrong with that, but to boldly declare it superior to BG3 before even PLAYING it is just simping and straight up wrong.
I don't know about DSP (I suspect he thought Starfield would be like Skyrim in terms of its impact on gaming culture), but conceptually, Starfield was much more of a dream game for me than Baldur's Gate 3 could ever be. Sadly, it failed to live up to its promise and then some.
I'm already getting pissed off. I know Phil will gaslight and twist the entire story around, while he hypes up BG3 for cash during his Begsmas Scam'athon.

Honestly, I don’t know where that guy got any of that. No one will ever talk about BG3 again yeah I’m probably going to be playing it for like the next couple of years until dragon age dread wolf comes out because I can literally replay BG3 over and over again a ridiculously amount of times. Right now I have the problem I can’t play any other game because it’s so good.

My favorite part is..... ultimately, the game journalists, the gaming social media, the game awards, the hype.... it doesn't matter. I was playing Monster Hunter for years before World became viral in the West, it didn't make the game any less fun. Games are about playing and enjoying them.
Phil takes hype waaaayyyy too seriously, because his relationship with gaming is distorted beyond belief due to him being a desperate content creator. That's why he always has these takes about how popular or prominent a game may or may not be. He thinks a game needs hype because he needs views. But games aren't about views, they're about fun. Considering Spider-Man (2018) was nominated for 8 awards at the 2018 Game Awards and won none of its nominations, that's what happens when Spider-Man games were released amid heavy competition of other elite video games (2018 - God of War, Red Dead Redemption II/2023 - Baldur's Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake II, etc.)

He was right about one thing, Everyone was talking about Starfield... but only talking about how it was another huge failure right along with Fallout 76. Maybe even worse. Many people, including myself, knew after playing BG3 that it was going to win GOTY. Hopefully this is a wake up call for most of the AAA studios to do better. Not like it's going to happen but still funny to see so many of the AAA devs who stated that BG3 wasn't going to be GOTY or that it should be the standard that gamers should expect out of dev studios. Larian isn't AAA, went bankrupt, and put so much passion into this title all while making the AAA studios look like chumps. Well done Larian, you all deserve this win.
