    The fact that we had to deal with EA as the sole publisher for SW games for nearly a decade was absolutely insulting. Only 4 triple A releases and 2 of them were soulless cashgrabs, and the amount of games that were cancelled is actually unreal.
    Hopefully we'll start to see another golden age of SW games again after their exclusive contract officially expire.

    Hero Hunt used to be even worse before they changed it a few months after launch. At launch, the player who got the last hit on the hero became the hero next. There was no damage tallying or anything. It was just a dumb kill stealing competition with no skill involved.

    • @deaconpoole7577
      @deaconpoole7577 Před 2 lety +3

      Not only that, but then after the initial version, DICE for some reason had a literal Wheel Of Fortune, based on how much damage the top 3 players did, but all of your damage progress and the size of your slot on the wheel was removed after a new hero was selected. So basically, you could do the most amount of damage of all the players, STILL lose and not get picked, and then have to do it all over again

    Holy shit, I can't believe I put up with this game all those years ago. I bought a Playstation 4 back in late 2015, and this was my first multiplayer game I ever really played. In hindsight I just find it amazing that I put up with how bad the game was, considering the extremely apparent flaws even I knew about nearly 6 years ago. I played the game at launch and became my favorite game that I would play nearly every day up until the Death Star DLC. To this day I still prefer it over the sequel, despite the fact that the sequel is a better game in nearly every possible way, probably because of how good 12 year old me was at this game. I put up with the season pass, the DLC content, the base game content, the EE4, the overpowered heroes, the underpowered heroes, the bugs, the glitches, everything. But this game was to me how Halo 3 was to hundreds of thousands of kids back in 2007. I wish I was a kid again, I can't enjoy games like I used to anymore.

    When this game dropped, the graphics were definitely it's highest selling point what with contributing to the immersion factor of the game. When it dropped, I had never seen a game that looked so graphically stunning before and I distinctly remember this being the first time I really felt a new frontier was being pushed toward photorealism in gaming. I remember asking my dad to buy it for me on launch from my local gamestop. I was sitting in my pre cal class thinking nonstop about getting home to play ot finally after having been impressed with the beta. And it did its job for a while but the amount of content available at launch you could cycle through in about 3 hours I think, which is what I did. Then, all the spirit I initially had for the game vanished. Which was especially odd, since I am an enormous fan of Star Wars and that was the best looking game I had ever played. But there wasn't any pretense at all in my lack of interest at that point. I blankly just did not feel motivated to keep playing at all. The appetite would come up again every so often when the dlc would be made free for promotional events but aside from that, I learned an invaluable lesson in what to expect of the EA Star Wars product. When BF2 was announced and released, it was the first time in my life I distinctly remember being completely and utterly ambivalent about a Star Wars game. The news of the state of the lootboxes at the time was coming out and the marketing toward the prequels in my eyes was utterly disingenuous with an insulting paucity of content that actually represented that era on release. The game was in such a skeletal state that more than just ambivalence, I felt actual disgust for the product they were peddling. And that was the first time that not only did i feel ambivalence, but that i received a Star Wars product's release with actual hostility. I didn't pick that game up on launch and waited till it was on sale for 5 dollars around the time that the Geonosis update was being released. The game at its final state before being abandoned is still bare minimum what should have been delivered on launch and I will never forget the travesty EA made out of Star Wars under its control.

    • @Justacheese
      @Justacheese Před 2 lety +3

      I never picked up either of the star wars battlefront games because I was already boycotting EA at the time.
      But I get how you feel. Mainly because EA ruined the need for speed games. That series used to be one of my favorite franchises and now its been abandoned.
      EA tends to do that with whatever they can get their grubby little hands on.
      Also thank you so much for including proper comma's and periods in your comment. Since its pretty long, it would have been a nightmare to read if it was all one big blob of text.

Towards the end of one of our classes, I actually convinced my teacher, one that I’d come to see as a good mentor and friend, to play one of the co-op missions with me. He picked the Beggar’s canyon mission so he was my wing-mate in that short but sweet X-wing based mission. For me it’s a mixed bag to be honest.
      2015 has a lot more life and personality than 2017 even to this day.
      2017 has far better hero combat and balancing/vehicles and the reinforcement classes are cool. Not to mention how much content there is.
      Basically to keep it somewhat brief, the arcade like power up system in 2015 is fun. 2015 has two modes I’d play over any 2017 any day. (Cargo and Walker assault) And most importantly. The “base troopers” gameplay felt wayyyyy better with the variety of weapons and star card loadouts!
      You want to be a sniper who also plays tanky? Sure!
      You want to be a guns a blazing crazy guy who goes out with explosive shot and tons of grenades? Sure!
      You want to be a bit more of a support player with Dioxis grenade and healing droid thing? Sure!
      2017’s major flaw is it’s restrictive class system regular trooper gameplay, I’m always trying to become a hero/vehicle/reinforcement in 2017 battlefront because frankly… I don’t 100% like any of the classes and how they work.
      So in 2017 I have to be patient and wait a few minutes of boring base gameplay before I can pick a hero and get to the actual good stuff.
      Where in 2015 I actually liked the base trooper gameplay, possibly more than the heros.
      In conclusion, if you love hero gameplay above all else. 2017 is easily the pick for you. Hop onto Heros V Villains and play that constantly.
      If you want to enjoy things other than the special classes of the game (or ships but I don’t like ships even though they are much better in 2017)
      Pick 2015 any day.

    Î loved playing Greedo and Boba in the game. The level up for Greedo do also boost his main blaster damage and if you're on thermal imploder lvl, you gonna go through enemies like a knife through warm butter. He is so powerful.
    Boba is just fun to play as his abilities have a very nice flow to them.

    I remember just playing Walker Assault/Survival over and over again with my little brother for like a year, and we couldn't do anything online because it's a PS4 and we didn't have PS Plus. I have some good memories from that, but even back then I knew that this game was pretty terrible. It had its moments for sure, and it had the skeleton of a great game, but it just failed to go those final steps to become fleshed out and really enjoyable. Great video my dude.

Battlefront 2015 used to be my go to game when it first released (I was pretty young) and it still holds a special place in my heart, but I can’t refute it’s probably the worst in the franchise. I’m looking forward to your video on the sequel (no rush), I started getting into it recently and it’s an improvement on 2015’s in just about every way. it’ll be interesting to hear your take on it!

    1:11:00 Fun point on this, the game selection menu actually DOES load during the stat screen. It is entirely cosmetic loading. On PC you can glitch it out by tabbing out of the game and tabbing back in. The selection screen is behind it, you can even still press escape to open the menu and it'll show, but you can't click anything. No idea why they did it the way they did.

I really like that there is a very spiritual theme through the star wars story as it gives what looks like a normal shooter a bit more depth. I hold a lot of nostalgia for this game weirdly. I had just finished university and it was the first time-sink game I focused on which probably played a part. I knew it was barebones and like a pleb, I even bought the DLC. I found the basic, arcade-style very fun but I remember sitting on my chair one night and I just hit a wall with this game. There was zero progression & satisfaction from the same scenarios and maps. A very strange game. I fell into the mindlessness of it which is unlike me to be honest as I typically prefer feedback in terms of progression, story and interesting gameplay.
    Great video.

      Imagine seeing you here!
      I loved this game back at its height. It’s by 0 means a competitive gaming experience but that’s not what it’s for at all either. Battlefront 2017 may be a better game in almost every measurable way yet I find myself having a lot more fun with 2015, apart from hero/ships gameplay which is admittedly far superior in the 2017 battlefront. I also like 2017’s reinforcement class.
      Basically, 2015 felt way better as a “regular trooper” while 2017’s class system sounds interesting at face value, it gets old very quick as a base gameplay experience (at least for me) where I could play hours upon hours of Cargo as a regular class troop in battlefront 2015 and never get bored.
      The endless amount of weapons and star card loadouts in 2015 is just plain fun, especially when the game had more (and less experienced) players.
      Love the shiny hunting man! Keep it up!

I loved the load outs you could make with the card systems, the character customization systems with the different races and emotes, the visuals and sounds were jaw-dropping, and it ran quite well which was surprising given DICE's track record to that point. It's really a shame this game was so barren and predatory with its DLC model. EA continues to demonstrate why they are one of the most hated companies with SWBF 2.

    Honestly, I personally prefer Battlefront 1 2015 over Battlefront II 2017.
    The "Star Wars" feeling and atmosphere was never captured better than in this game. Yes, the game is restricted to the Original Trilogy, but it holds a very special place in my heart. It is my favorite SW game ever. I never had the same amount of fun in Battlefront 2, although, it certainly improved some aspects. I personally still prefered the overall gameplay. I just miss the classes and I even prefer the Pick-ups over the battle point system.

  • @IKhanmakeWAR2
    @IKhanmakeWAR2 Před 2 lety +5

    Ngl, to this day this game is still one of my favorite multiplayer games I've ever had the chance to play while it was active. The gunplay was fluid (Battlefront 2's gunplay often feels wonky and bloomy), the maps were fantastic (almost every battlefront 2 map has lanes and ends up in a funnel in Galactic Assault), I enjoyed the freedom to make my own kit, and the effects/backgrounds/map events (Super Star Destroyer crashing/Fights above) are all phenomenal and add to the environment (Battlefront 2 can't even make a proper explosion outside of a cutscene). There are things BF2 did better like the spawn screen vehicle/hero system and having more content (expected from a sequel game) but the core gameplay was gutted IMO.

    • @locustboy8448
      @locustboy8448 Před 2 lety +1

      Yep, the freedom of choice was amazing in 2015. And wayyyy more weapons was a massive positive for me personally, unlike the OP’s opinion in the video I loved the massive diversity of star cards and weapons. When the DLC was getting released I always was more interested in the new blasters/star cards than the new maps and game modes. I’ve grown to not dislike Battlefront 2 2017 as much as I used to, but there’s still a quality to 2015 that is special and unique to this day!
      I even loved the ridiculous hero pickups and vehicle pickups. Battlefront 2015 isn’t/wasn’t a competitive gaming experience in any way. Tons of cheese and ridiculousness. But that’s part of what made it AMAZING. Not to mention 2015 Cargo>All 2017 game modes imo.
      Back at the game’s height I could enjoy endless hours of Cargo or Walker Assault, when 2017 dropped it took me like maybe a week before I got bored of the core gameplay.
      In battlefront 2, you almost never hear people loving the core “classes” and for a reason. They’re kind of boring. You’re always trying to go for a hero/vehicle/reinforcement. And while I agree all of those plus space battles are WAY better in 2017. The core gameplay aka regular troopers is seriously lacking in the 2017 version and never really got addressed.

    Its interesting hearing your thoughts on the dlc, since I stopped playing before most of it came out. Man at launch everyone used the exact same class: Jump pack, pulse canon and either ion shot or personal shield. There was almost no need for any other class loadout since they all paled in comparison until more advanced cstar cards released in future. And pulse cannon used to have 100% accuracy when moving, making it extremely overpowered and a popular choice to use against blaster heroes like Han or Leia. It needed the nerfed accuracy when moving. I have nostalgia of playing this as a teen, good review.
