I should have mentioned, I'm speaking of the default controls of course. You can remap them in the controls options.
Also, I am an idiot and didn't remember the 180 flip maneuver for dog fighting. Whoops.
I also am aware of the jedi sprinting attacks, I just didn't think they were as important as a few others it seems. Grievous is better with that attack, I just feel sad for him that he doesn't have a secondary or something.

There was a cool unkown trick that I used back in the day. During space battles you could land the troop transport ships on anything out in space by simply spamming the take off/land button while leaving the hangar. It was so cool to find your guy walking on the exterior of the mothership while enemy fighters would come by and shoot you. I think I nearly cried in joy the first time I did it.

The campaign is not only forgettable but borderline regrettable too. The original had its flaws and I wouldn’t even go so far to say it’s better than the new one but the new one definitely isn’t better either. It’s abundantly clear that the heart that was present in the originals is absent in the remakes and that’s what’s so disappointing. It’s not even the fault of the devs as they clearly love Star Wars but just the interference of Lucasarts and EA really, but nonetheless the game just feels kind of empty and soulless.

    @AmiiboDoctor Před 3 lety +206

Okay, so here's the difference between Normal and Elite.
Outside of you, there's no difference (in the base game - mods have their own parameters).
As far as the players go, all units are aware of your position and when you're in reasonable range, they aim for you instead of opponents right in front of them. If you're a good survivalist, then it makes it easier for the rest of your team to take CPs. Which is why there's so much back-and-forth as to whether it's more difficult or not.

You're sleeping on the possibilities of playing Galactic Conquest with four friends. I and three other friends spent almost 2 whole weeks on it. Story time: In the beginning, I and my teammate were getting crushed in land battles and were losing all our planets to the point where we only had Polis Massa left (We played as the Rebels). Thankfully we held our own during space battles so we set up a space blockade around Polis Massa with our last two ships. After earning enough credits from victorious space battles with our blockade, we purchased some upgrades and other infantry classes. From this, we were able to push back our other buddies playing as the Empire to the point where we had gained half the galaxy back in our control. Our two opponent buddies eventually forfeited because they just couldn't win anymore. We actually would plan out how we would engage each other in both battles and strategic planning. Galactic conquest could literally be one of the best experiences with the right people and implemented correctly.

Online Multiplayer definitely improved some of the maps and gamemodes.
Mos Eisley Assault Mode was the classic map where duels would take place. There was always a server running Mos Eisley Assault, and regardless of Jedi or Sith, there was a duel etiquette that most people would follow: wait in line at the hangar with the Skiff for your battle, winner takes on the next in line. There was also a glitch with a Wookie/Chewbacca on the Skiff, where it would fall endlessly and continuously generate healing and ammo, which was great for the winner to replenish after a battle.
Kashyyk used the back gated area a lot when one team was losing, as it would be very easy to defend. Servers usually had extremely high population counts and timers beyond normal limits, so the only way to actually win Conquest on that map was to capture that last heavily fortified post.
The Death Star and its holding cells was often used for Prison Break roleplay servers, which you can see nowadays in other sandbox games like Gmod.
Hoth's Hunt mode was actually one of the more popular Hunt modes, since the Wampas play just like many modern multiplayer zombie infection gamemodes, like Halo's Infection. Echo base was a good spot to hole up.
In terms of classes, the best players tended to stick to the standard classes. People with good aim would usually use Sniper. People with very good mechanical knowledge would use the Engineer for its versatility. Normal Rifleman was usually only good when you got the elite weapons. The Rocket Launcher trooper was for people who could manage mines and hit a rocket launcher right at your feet, both of which can kill an un-careful hero.
Engineers had the droppable large healing and ammo canisters, useful for self and teammates, a solid shotgun for standard use, the ability to fix vehicles, droids, and map items, and a hidden technique to do a Detpack throw. Some of the best Engineer players would be able to Detpack throw as far and as hard as throwing a Thermal Detonator. You can do a detpack throw by initiating the detpack throw animation, looking down, and then looking forward at the same rate the arm animation was going upwards. Detpacks also have controllable detonation, can be pre-placed, and deal enough damage and force to ragdoll a hero, which is a huge opportunity for your team to finish them while they can't lightsaber block.
As an Engineer, you could actually go around the Polis Massa space section by utilizing most of your healing items, since players tend to not defend those hangars. Then, fix up an ammo droid, replenish your healing items, and wreck the other team's backline.

Ah, Battlefront 2... A game I have some significant mixed feelings about. On the one hand, the addition units and most of the gameplay changes are great additions, and the redone Galactic Conquest and Campaign modes are both excellent. On the other hand...
First and foremost, I don't like the fact that so many maps have been purged. I understand that two maps per planet would make Galactic Conquest a lot more of a bloated mess but so many great maps got lost. No Rhen Var, no Bespin, those are some brilliant maps that I don't understand the loss of. Doubly so, I miss the starfighters on ground maps. I assume that's why Dune Sea ended up getting tanked, perhaps the same with Bespin Platforms, because they didn't want starfighters on the ground so as not to mess up the space battles, but I still miss them, and considering how the Snowspeeders worked fine on Hoth I don't really see *why* we couldn't have had fighters in both.
My biggest complaint, though? I think the original *looks* better. I've always felt like Battlefront 2 looks lower resolution, far less clean, and less interested in terms of its maps (complaints about boring grey colours resonate very heavily with me) compared to the more vibrant, crisper looking Battlefront. Even when I played both on a PS2 for the first time, on the same TV, and playing them both on the PC has done nothing to disabuse me of this notion. The same goes for the menus and the HUD; in the original they looked more interesting, more futuristic, with the hard angles and the blue colour, compared to the frankly boring (in my own opinion, I must stress) design that Battlefront 2 went with.
I do wonder if I'm the only one who feels this way. In most respects I can see where Battlefront 2 offers a great improvement but there's a part of me that gravitates more towards the original.

    • @dieselface1
      @dieselface1 Před 3 lety +11

I agree, the maps from the first game and the artistic differences definitely sucked even if the game was overall an improvement on its predecessor. Imagine if Galactic conquest was expanded with some of the old maps, even just with two more planets like Rhen Var and Bespin, it would make the mode a little more replayable.

I love Battlefront II, but the mechanics and WIDER stuff of the original is also pretty sweet. Crawling on the ground and fighters on ground maps were so awesome (and Battlefront II of PC have maps with space-ground battles including fighters and ground soldiers, so it demonstrates it is posible to have both mixed and be EPIC)

Man, I loved this game. I spent hours in an interceptor in the space missions, springing out from under the hull of the enemy capital ship to fire a full salvo of rockets up the back-end of other players, and then U-turning back under to wait for my next target.
Fun fact, the Imperial commander/announcer is credited as "Smarmy British Palpatine Supporter."
The interesting thing about BFII is that it was one of the few bits of Star Wars media (and certainly the highest-profile one) that actually addressed the human cost of the Death Star's destruction. The Yavin missions late in the campaign are basically the Empire going on a vengeful rampage against the Rebels, and the way the game sets it up makes you feel downright heroic as you shred X-Wings with a TIE Interceptor and gradually claw your way up the map to storm the rooms where Leia, Threepio, and Dodonna clustered around holograms during the climax of Episode IV.
Even Smarmy British Palpatine Supporter gets in on the melancholy for a bit, solemnly praising the Clones' performance and adding "The spirits of our fallen brothers will sleep soundly tonight."

25:18 If you press B twice and then bring your move your thumbstick up or down, your starfighter will do a complete 180° with a stylish barrel roll at the end

Battlefront 2 wasn’t just a great Star Wars game, first and foremost it was a great game. All the best star wars games tend to hold up without the star wars branding.

Sabotage was clutch for space battles. The enemy spawns with all their shit on the brink of death so you can essentially one shot their ships. Makes the battles much quicker, but obviously the cost-benefit is trash.

The enemies would sometimes taunt you and keep shooting your corpse. Had a guy do that and he wouldn't stop while my teammate murdered him. 😂
Also hilarious when you park a transport on another ship and your AI allies take over their turrets lol.

The lay down feature made a HUGE diffrent and impact on the battlefront, alone that modern shooters reimplement that feature again should tell you that.

Playing as a super battle droid was one of my favorite features when this came out, the super battle droid was a cool droid in general.

Not sure if you knew about about it or someone mentioned it, but you can repair the shields of your destroyer/cruiser. Takes forever to repair but its relieving getting them back XD

I still play this game to this day on my backwards PS3. This is what the modern games should have built from.
If all they did was reskin this game they would have had my money. Me and my friend play the instant action split screen it's like a Star Wars sandbox.

@@adlibbed2138 it's funny you should say that, because I just found out Battlefront 1 and 2 are coming as classics to PS4 March 14th

Despite your review, I played this game A LOT when I was younger. And I get to do so again in JUST FOUR MORE days! THIS and the first one are coming back to modern consoles.
